Stepbrother, Mine was first published as a three part serial back in July of this year. It is now packaged into one book but the book is broken into its three distinct parts. These are my thoughts as I read each serial:
Stepbrother, Mine #1:
I could not be more in love with both Dana and Mason. He is male perfection and she is the best virgin heroine EVER!
THIS is not your ordinary Stepbrother taboo story! It is WAY more! :)
When I said this was WAY more than a 'Stepbrother taboo' story, I meant it. This is a story of friendship and love. A story of growth and trust. A story of second chances and happily ever afters :)
Ten years ago, Dana's mother married Mason's father. They were only married for three years. Two of those, Mason did not live in the same home AND he was in his late 20s at the time. So in my opinion, the 'should we/should we not' because we are 'step siblings' is pretty much non-existent.
Today, Dana finds herself in a financial situation that may call for some desperate measures. She's being cut off by her mother and she's trying to finish her degree...so desperate measure wins! Let's sell our virginity!! And that's how we re-connect with Mason ... he buys her virginity :)
I'm going to tell you flat out, that I am in 'serious' love with Mason. He is kind, charming, warm-hearted and would do anything for Dana. Always would. Since the day they met ten years ago. Same goes for Dana. She is soft-heart and kind, a little on the naive side on a lot of things, but she's strong and self-sufficient at the same time. They make the perfect pair ... it is destined :)

The story of Mason and Dana continues exactly where Stepbrother, Mine #1 left us ... With Dana asking the dreaded question. Pushing for answers for the past. Trying to breakdown walls for the future ...
One of the best and most romantic things that happens in this installment is the view Opal Carew gives us into the past. Not only is Dana seeking answers for things that took place in their past, but I as a reader am so invested in their growing relationship, that I crave those answers myself. The style in which this book is laid out for us is unlike any 'stepbrother' book I have ever read. This is a true romance story with feelings and growth and trust and love. Opal weaves the past into the present seamlessly. This story is perfection. #TRUTH

The begins seamlessly where Part #2 left off. THIS time, Dana is not looking for answers of their past, but of their future. Mason has been using the 'I have dark urges' excuse to himself for waaaay too long and Dana is about to call him out! Because Dana's love and desire for Mason far outweigh any fear she may have about what his sexual needs might be...and those feelings are reciprocated by Mason, he's just not willing to admit to it just yet ;)
I'm gonna be honest and tell you that at this point, as a reader, Mason was grating on my last nerve. I honestly thought we wouldn't see any more of Mason's idiotic refusal to see what is right in front of him. The mental game he continued to play with himself on whether he was good enough for Dana over-played itself and Dana's constant reference to him as 'stepbrother' bordered on ridiculous. Because at this point in the story, we have the whole picture of the past and they were siblings for a nano-second in time!!! lol So the story lost a little ground for me because of this...
Anyhoooo ..... Dana sets out to prove she can fulfill Mason and it gets HOT HOT HOT :) The story takes a few little twist that shouldn't be too big a surprise to anyone paying attention, throws us a little suspense but in the end our warm-hearted charming man gets his girl! As it should be :)
Stepbrother, Mine was a beautiful story of trust, growth, friendship and love. It was a beautiful twist on the usual taboo stepbrother trope and it should not be missed by any romance reader out there!

My review will be probably be longer than what I actually read, just saying.
The h has been cut off by mom. Apparently mom is a really terrible person because the h's roommate calls her (the mom) "that bitch", maybe without the "that", whatever, the point is the h isn't into defending her mom. The h was cut off because she wants to get her Masters instead of work and earn her own money. Aha, her mom is a bitch.
Anyway, h is hurt because she's always been there for bitch mom and now bitch mom doesn't want to give her money. But don't worry about the h, she's got it covered. She'll sell her virginity to a billionaire.
Then we open to the H having fun with his submissive maid. He's already tired of her but wants to cum once more so she'll do.
Do I need to say more? Maybe if the h is selling her virginity because she needs the money for a dying relative's surgery I'd take a chance on the book and I was spared the H's latest sexual adventures, but no thanks. Won't work for me ever.

I want my money back
I pre-ordered this book ages ago (just getting to it due to my work schedule) because I've been on a stepbrother romance kick and I've heard this author's work is fabulous. I feel like I was lied to.
So, this girl gets cut off by her rich spoiled horrible mother. She's now broke and can't get her masters in poetry. Um...she has her bachelors. Not like she can't find *some* kind of work. Although, what on earth did she think she could do with a degree in poetry?? Ugh.
Anyway. Her dream is to study in France. Except, money. If mommy dearest is footing the bill, then she shouldn't have debt. Do what we all do and take out a student loan. But she listens to her (later very judgy) friend and auctions her v-card online.
I read a serial about a similar situation, but the guy was her friend not her stepbrother. So, I was willing to go with it since I liked the other book(s) so much.
Except it's a huge train wreck from there.
He took her virginity (okay, she sold/gave it to him, whatev) but he has certain "needs" so of course afterwards he tells her they can't be together. Then she begs/demands to prove to him that she can handle it. So he immediately collars her and demands that she NOT COME on his first command. I know I'm not an...active... participant in the lifestyle, but I'm pretty sure it takes a bit of training to learn O denial. He's thrown her into this with no idea what to do or expect. Doesn't do any after care and hasn't given her a safe word. Every red flag I have was waving so frantically, I wanted to give up.
Later, he leaves her alone in The Dark Room (FSoG, anyone?) for 2 hours because he forgot she was in there...he forgot. Seriously. Then he tried to push her away by bringing in someone else to be with her while he watches despite his just having taken her v-card. And now she's excited to do the new guy AND asking him to take her back door virginity. Almost an exact quote. I giggled like a maniac because WHO SAYS THAT? No mention of any kind of birth control throughout the book, and the stranger blows inside her. Guess stepbrother isn't as possessive of her as he claims.
At this point, I started skimming. I was doing to DNF it, but I wanted to see if the evil father (her former stepfather) actually does anything evil. Of course, he does. Sends a text to her supposedly from her stepbrother with instructions on how/where to meet. She goes and gets handcuffed and then the stepfather is there ready to take her (literally, figuratively, whatever). My eyes roles so far into the back of my head, I think I saw behind me. The new stepmother, the former maid who somehow introduced him to this lifestyle by making him take her forcefully, has conspired against the father and they get him arrested somehow. I didn't care so I didn't pay attention. He still sends stepsister away though, "for her own good."
She finds herself studying whatever she's going to school for in Paris and of course, he comes to her because he can't live without her. And then turns the tables and becomes her sub (FSoG again??) despite the fact that he's never been a sub before.
Ugh. Wish I would've DNF'd this one rather than spending hours of my life I'll never get back.

~4,5~ Passionate stars from me!!
What a passionate story!! From page one this plot was extremely interesting...i mean virginity auction (!) and a sexy stepbrother who has also been her crush from young age?? As you see how can this story not suck you in from the beginning. Mason and Dana had a great sparkly chemistry and the author succeeded to make me feel this explosive intensity/attraction between them.
The plot was quite steady and the characters evolved as it was expected in the story, one of the good ingredients is definitely their hot scenes and the very enjoyable dialogues. I certainly recommend it and i'm looking forward to read more books from the author.

It’s a lot going on, and yet still feels super generic. Lots of flashbacks to when the heroine was in high school and obsessed with her 10 years’ senior stepbrother. Hints at the stepdad being creepy, which I just don’t want to read about. No smut yet between the hero and heroine. There was one sex scene between the hero and another woman — I usually don’t mind when MCs have sex with other people in romances, but I don’t want to see it explicit on the page.
From the other reviews it sounds like the entire last third is the whole “I’ll show you, an unprepared virgin, the worst parts of BDSM to scare you off!!” thing. Which is the worst kind of BDSM imo.
Just not something in which I care to invest any more of my time.

I am giving Stepbrother, Mine by Opal Carew 5 stars. This book was gifted to me in an ARC in exchanged for an honest review. The Author did an magnificent job on unfolding the love that Manson and Dana shared. Yes there is so many bumps the have to get over before the can finally get what they have always wanted which is each other. And one of those big obstacles is not only are they related through marriage, but he when they first meet she only 16 teen and his 26 years old. Mason is everything Dana needs at that point in her life he fills a whole in her heart that her bi**h of a mother can't fill because she to wrapped up in her life you give a crap about her only child. And yes Dane had her dad but unfortunately she doesn't get to see him as much as she would love to. So her older stepbrother steps in and provides that parental guidance she needs. Manson ends up giving Dana that and much more but this doesn't happen in the beginning in fact he ends up leaving his stepsister without ever telling her goodbye. Until one day he ends up finding his innocent little stepsister on a website he never thought he would find her on. Of course fate would step in and bring them together in a way they both wanted but never thought they could have. Sadly Dana going to have to go through a lot with Mason to get what she wants, but for Dana she feels like its all worth it because in the end she get what she has always wanted the man she loves who finally tells her back that he loves her too so much. This is the second series I have read of Opal Carew, and omg I just love her books she is unbelievable writer who knows what her readers love. If you have not read this book or any of her books please read them. You will enjoy them so much I know I do every time.

What a novel! Carew is off and running from page one with a captivating premise and a hot & bothered story. The solid narrative and vivid descriptions combine to create a seamless whole for readers to immerse themselves in.
I enjoyed the complexity of the relationship between the main characters. The conflict between desires, social pressures, and right & wrong all come into play. At the same time, what truly makes these characters who they are is the way that they interact with one another when no one else is around. I appreciated getting to know them on all these different levels. It really brought the whole story together for me, making it more than simply a racy tale.
Carew never fails to make me feel like I’m walking through the pages of her story, rather than simply reading it. Stepbrother, Mine was no exception.

I must be back in love with my "Stepbrother" genre as this is yet another story I have been able to give 5 Shiny Stars !! I was lucky enough to read all 3 parts so I didn't have to strangle my Kindle by any of the stories ending on a cliffy......lucky me !!
This is Dana and Mason's story.....Dana cut off by her mum (good riddance !!) despite how many times Dana was there for her !!!. Continuing..... Dana is really stressed over money and wondering how she is ever going to pay for college. Her friends come up with a plan......sell her virginity. THIS BOOK HAD ME THERE !!
Enter Mason, a guy with shall we say particular tastes. He's bored with it all, so his friends signpost him to a website with particular experiences available for the right price. And YESSSSSSS peeps, you have guessed it !! Mason buy's Dana's virginity......they are no longer "step siblings" that ship sank 10 years prior.....hurrah ! for Dana and Mason. The only question lies.....just because Dana advertised her virginity will she go through with the sale ?.
This story is very well written.....a long friendship that changes to intense lovers. I really enjoyed the flash back's to the past. I found the stories pace perfect, the dialogue smooth and at times witty. The sex scenes HOT !!! Dana is just perfect in the end for Mason, she's everything he didn't really think he wanted or needed !!.

1.5 stars. I was admittedly hesitant to pick up this book, but was pleasantly surprised when the backstory began to be presented; I found it surprisingly intriguing and not at all unoriginal. But as the story went on, I found that the characters were, well, just characters. Dana, in particular, was overwhelmingly flat and I felt like this story was more about the plot and forgot completely that there were supposed to be people involved. It almost felt like simply an excuse to present detailed sex scenes there at the end. Only one side-plot had a resolution and all of the others just seemed to go poof! While this explains why I felt the overall story was incomplete when it ended, there were many other elements that made this book something I can't recommend. So, all in all, this was an almost, but not quite OK book (in my opinion).

This started off okay but soon turned into a disgusting mess. I will say that my opinion on the whole Dom/Sub nonsense has become increasingly negative, everyone wants to try to copy FSOG and very few succeed. Mason was just downright horrible and even though he didn't show an ounce of concern for Dana she continued to want to be with him no matter what. No thanks, I'd rather read a book about a REAL man who doesn't get off on beating and completely degrading women. You want a little spanking and hair pulling? Go for it! But what this guy did? And right after taking her virginity and knowing that she loved him? It was just horrific! I finished it just because I was so close and wanted to see how the train wreck ended but it really only got worse as it went along. Save your time and money for something better.

Welcome to smut city! Every page was dripping with sexual tension and this was the step sibling romance that I have been looking for! Combining the forbidden romance with BDSM was exactly what I was looking for to escape the slump I felt myself slipping into. I would have liked to see a little more fleshing out of the mystery/thriller aspect of it. It was really just one scene (warning, trigger for attempted rape and kidnapping) but I wish there was just a little more build up to that moment. And it was all over really quickly. But overall a very enjoyable read.

Eh. Not my favorite book by this author and certainly won't be my last one either. Just didn't enjoy or feel invested in the plot as much as I have in other reads. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.

I'm pretty certain this is what's referred to as a "one-handed read." HOLY SMOKE For a bit I was thinking I'd need to put my e-reader in the freezer to cool it off! Absolutely one of the best taboo romance stories I've read!

I received a copy of this story through NetGalley from St. Martin's Press for an honest review. I'm not a fan of a story broken up into cliffhanger novellas, so I was very grateful I was given the opportunity to read all 3 at once. Together they flowed nicely and I enjoyed the story. All together it's an entertaining and fairly quick read that I read over a day.
Step-brother "taboo" books are all the rage now - sure. BUT the majority are hero/heroines who become step-siblings when their adults and their parents marry. This one skirts it a little that there's a about a 10 year age difference between Mason and Dana. They meet when she's 16-18 and he's about 26-28. Feelings build between the two - mostly her with a crush and him seeing her differently right after she turns 18 and struggling with those feelings. This story picks up about 8 years later.
This first book is a great establishment of the characters and premise of the story. It immediately starts with giving you a rough introduction to Mason's current lifestyle and character. I liked that it quickly got to his relationship (current and past) with Dana. Mason went from a cold and bored man in the present day to one when they first met where he was caring and protective. Given the neglect of their parents, he took (very appropriate) care of a lonely and sweet young woman. Through the flashbacks was the time I needed to get to know a different and more human Mason to see the real him.
Book 1 ends with a little "suspense" as to why he disappeared from her life overnight.
Book 2 in the 3 part series picks up immediately where book 1 left off and we get more flashbacks/background about Dana and Mason's relationship and why Mason walked away 8 years ago. Opal Carew did a great job building enough in the present to have me on the edge of my seat to find out what were the different scenes that created misunderstandings or complications. She doesn't make you wait long or drag it out, but seamless switches between past/present to keep you engaged in the story. I am most definitely not a fan of flashbacks, but this was done very well. I liked how honest Dana was about her past and current feelings for Mason when he asked her what she thought would happen between the two of them. I liked that he's different with her and is so caring.
Although this is not the cliffhanger or a catastrophic issue, but... Sylvie. Ouch. Dana handled it a lot better than I would.
Book 3 also picks up where 2 ends and is the last part of Mason and Dana's story. Where as I enjoyed and was caught up in Mason and Dana's relationship in books 1 and 2, this one took a turn. I found it hard to like or understand Mason and then wishing Dana had more self-respect no matter how strong she felt for him.
It's been about 3 weeks since the two reconnected and... well... Dana sure has had a big few weeks! She's quite experienced by the end and probably needs a good soaking or some ointment at minimum. This part of the series gets heavily into the BDSM angle. It's not really my thing, but I have read several books in this genre and this one made me super sad for Dana. If this was your first book reading a BDSM genre book, I'd suggest you give another a try as this threw it all in there at once (and literally into 2 days).
To protect Dana, Mason decides to run her off by showing her the most extreme and hardcore side of his lifestyle rather than kindly walking away. By the end of the first day of their new arrangement he's thrown everything at her without her knowing what's going on or what to expect. The D/s relationship is one way and I didn't feel was respectful of Dana's role. He's intentionally setting her up to fail and cruelly because he knows her feelings for him. He is back to those opening pages in book 1 as cold, indifferent and distant. I was sad for how confused she was and wanted to please him without having a clue as to what was going on and why. She did everything to please him and he took great lengths to push her away. I thought a scene with James would finally stop it, but nope. Although it was written well, I was sad for her and how far he pushes her almost up to the last chapter.
The 2nd book we saw a soft and giving side of Mason. In this one it's extreme and hard to find the redeeming qualities the author built for 2/3 of the series. Of course we get a HEA and he achieves a mutual balance of pleasure together, but this last part of their story fell short for me. The bad guy in the story finally makes his move and it felt rushed
Overall, I did enjoy the book and I think it helped to read all 3 at once. If you do read them separately or as they're released, the "cliffhangers" aren't devastating (good grief Deborah Bladon is a master at that and drives me insane).

The idea of being with one's stepbrother isn't even new to hear about either, that has been talked about in other books or on tv shows.
They way Opal Carew wrote this was tasteful and didn't breach the line that would make one uncomfortable. In fact, I found Dana's and Mason's relationship charming. You could see the way that Mason cared for her in the things he did, having his point of view went a long way with trying to figure out this character.
Ms. Carew had me on the edge of my seat, going crazy on trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I have this habit of talking out loud when things happened in books, and I have to say I was trying to talk to the characters. Making my fiance think I am crazy, but I was embarrassed for the characters when they said certain things or acted a certain way.

Stepbrother, Mine by Opal Crew is a discovery novel. Both Mason and Dana need to find out what they really want from each other and for each other. Dana is caught in a situation that has her contemplating the sale of her virginity. She wishes that it could be the one man she has always loved, but knew that it wasn’t possible. She agrees to sell her virginity to the highest bidder so that she can keep going to school, and is surprised to find out that it is Mason who is the bidder. Mason was Dana’s stepbrother for about three years, so I didn’t really understand the stigma that seemed to be a big part of their resistance to each other. Not to mention that their parents were married when she was a teenager and Mason was older, so they did not grow up together. The fact that they were step-siblings for a while seemed to be the biggest hurdle to get over, and then there was Mason’s idea that Dana wouldn’t handle being his sub. He needed to get over himself. He kept trying to protect her and all he kept doing is putting obstacles in their way. Then his father was still trying to hurt Mason and get at Dana. So many obstacles and things getting in the way and the end was rushed to solve everything. Then Mason still sent Dana away. He came to his senses but the ending still felt unsatisfying. I give this book 3 stars. I don’t mind the whole step-sibling trope, but it is barely there and it was blown up to be a huge thing. Dana also did everything she could to be with Mason and he kept putting things in the way so it seemed like he really didn’t want her. It seemed to be a case of he wanted her too much but thought he wasn’t good enough for her.

Fabulous read! This was the first book by Opal Carew that I have read but it will not be the last! She is definitely an author to watch and follow! The excitement begins immediately and is carried throughout this book all the way through the final page! There was great character development, suspense, hope, emotion, excitement and love/lust.... this story had it all and it was wonderfully written to entice your senses with every turn of the page! I can not wait to get another book by this author!!!!

Yikes. I feel like maybe 3 Stars may be a star too many but I finished it so that has to count for something, right? I am doing a challenge and I was tasked with reading a "Stepbrother" novel...this one popped up so I dove in and it wasn't long before I regretted it.
I wanted to like it but I just felt turned off by much of the book.

First off, I didn't know that Stepbrother, Mine actually started out as a serial. Yeah, it was a serial. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of serials. Fortunately, St. Martin press actually combined the volumes together to form a book, and I happen to find this at the bookstore. Of course, they had a put a sexy cover, and it was a must buy. Also, I have read other books from Opal Carew and had enjoyed them. Here we are reviewing.
So, we have a taboo kind of read, but here's the thing: I didn't think it was all taboo. I actually have a valid reasons: 1. They were only 10 years apart in age, and he was technically out of the house by the time they met. So, that would be more of a reason why it's taboo. 2. They were only step-siblings for 2 years. Now had they been step siblings when she was 6 and he was 16, and they lived in same house for more than 5 years. That would have been more an ick factor. I guess for some it would have been taboo, but then again I would think of it like terms of the movie Clueless. I mean Josh and Cheri did get together in the end. Enough of why I didn't think it was all that taboo.
Since Stepbrother, Mine was originally a serial, it's actually broken down into three parts. I actually like the flow of the parts. They flow into one another very nicely. Part one focuses on Dana and Mason reconnecting. They both find that they like one another. However, Mason is trying to keep Dana safe, and Dana wants a more from Mason. After all they both feel this connection that goes deeper. Part 2 focus on Mason and Dana explore passions together. Part 3 when everything implodes, and the reunite.
Overall, I liked Stepbrother, Mine. However, a lot of this story is pretty unrealistic. If you are one of those people that is going to nitpick on the impracticality of the story, you are going to want to steer clear of this one. Dana is willing to sell her virginity to the highest bidder. Okay, I think it's pretty genius idea in some ways. Opal goes into detail why she had. Sometimes, you can't get grants after a certain point of educations, and she didn't want to get a student loan. Being a virgin she's probably unlikely to jump into BDSM shortly after losing that card. There's some impracticality. If you are willing to overlook those kind of factors you might enjoy this how steamy read. I gave you my reasons why it's not really taboo. Especially, when they actually hooked up they are 10 years older, she's 26 and he's 36. It was a pretty good read.

I have read this book in separate volumes and given them all 1 star. But as in whole I am going with 2 stars. After reading so many bad reviews I still went and read it. Even if for so many people the taboo, plot and story fell flat, it kind of did justice to me as I was reading the synopsis and reviews.
But everything turned south as I was reading the book. The story was flawed in so many way, I don't know where to begin with.
- I didn't liked the MCs, Mason and Dana. I thought maybe further through the story there will be some sort of character development, but no, there were none.
-Then there were so any lose ends in the story. I thought as the story being written in author's POV this wouldn't happen.
-And seriously I don't want to insinuate anything but most of the ideas felt like adapted from other books. No I am not talking about the excessively used multiple tropes. I am talking about scenes and story lines.
-Then there were complete unsafe sex practice. I do like the way authors describe scenes where H is not using condoms but here thing of concern was expecting babies before STDs. Yes babies, multiple. You see Mason had three submissive and use to have sex with them without condoms. And yes, there is described sex with OW on paper before getting involved with Dana (not that it bothered me, seeing there were much bigger concerns). I am ready to thing they were on pills and were regularly having medical check up. But when Dana had sex with Mason she was a virgin, nothing extreme you say. Everyone likes a HEA with a baby. Now wait a minute. There was ménage. Again it doesn't concern me. But what concern me is that other guy James, who is apparently is also a submissive of Mason, having sex with Dana without any contraception. Now whose baby it's gonna be. Thank fuck there were no baby. But with the direction the story was leading I thought baby would be popping out of Dana's or any submissive of Mason including James anytime now.
I know it sound absurd but even after keeping my mind very open it all felt like some bad porn story. Well for what it's worth it did have good sex scenes.
Last thoughts: Will I recommend it? Probably not, well unless you were horny then go for it.

I need to preface this by saying I'm no stranger to spice, kink, or BDSM. But I couldn't get into this novel.
The step sibling thing was incredibly mild considering how taboo the story tries to make it out to be. They lived together for like two years when Dana was 16-18. I have substantially more of an issue with the ten year age difference, but I could still over look that...
EXCEPT, Mason treats Dana like she's still 16 even though she's a 26 year old grown ass woman. I get the whole virginal trope even if it's not for me, but this book was too much. It very much feels like an adult sleeping with a teenager. And that's not even getting into how weirdly naive and inexperienced Dana is about sex.
They never once discuss their prior experiences or expectations despite Mason's constant inner turmoil about hurting Dana. He's weirdly obsessed with feeling guilty about taking her virginity even though she's an enthusiastically consenting adult.
There's one scene in particular when Mason wants to stop and Dana continues to pressure him until he relents. It felt very coerced and uncomfortable. Neither character seems to genuinely care about the other person's actual feelings, only their perceived feelings.
Lastly, I stopped reading when the questionable BDSM cropped up. I love BDSM and I'm a big fan of other novels that do it well. This does not do it well. Mason feels the need to protect Dana from his desires rather than being honest about his needs. He wakes up one night thinking she's one of his subs and starts spanking her without explanation. But sweet Jesus, the sexual relationship is questionable at best and my suspension of disbelief is not strong enough to outweigh my discomfort.

I wasn't expecting a nice stepbrother (Mason) who loved and cared about Dana from the start!
I'm glad that Carew introduced Mason's dom urges early on in the book (in the form of sex with one of his subs), otherwise the third act of the book would've felt like a shock. For most of the book, the dynamic between Mason and Dana is one of softness and love. If only every girl could lose her virginity with such a caring guy who knows what he's doing and eases her into everything, making sure she experiences pleasure!
I enjoyed reading the chapters about the past, watching 16-year-old Dana grow close to her 26-year-old stepbrother, who provides a stability in her life that she has never had from her parents. And Mason's endowment sounds delectable. ;)
However, some of my issues with the story included Dana's characterization and the nonsensical ages. Dana is a 26-year-old woman in her third year of college? What happened? In the US, most people finish college at 21 or 22. And Dana is said to be an intelligent woman and very good student. She also behaves like she's 14 (not just in the chapters where she's 16, but in the present-day chapters, too). I think a woman can be innocent (i.e., a virgin) without acting like she's 14.
I also think it's a bit implausible for the sweet, virginal Dana to go from her deflowering to submissive sex with another man in the span of a couple of weeks. But...becoming sexually active can be like that, I guess.
I appreciated Carew's attempts to make the plot more complex, with the addition of a disgusting stepfather (Mason's dad) and conniving maid, whose past behavior contributes to Mason's current hang-ups. They did come off cartoony, though.

Eeesh. I was not a fan. Several things:
1. Absolutely nothing forbidden here. Their parents weren't even married anymore. And it was for 3 years. Snore.
2. He has multiple partners at the beginning with graphic scenes. And no condoms. With 3 "subs". I hate the word "sub". Ugh.
3. He has sex with heroine. Without a condom.
4. He practically forces her into a threesome with another man. Again, no condom.
5. He has sex with another woman not previously listed. No condom.
6. Her entire introduction to his lifestyle was like throwing her into a river with a heavy current and she doesn't know how to swim. And he loves her? Way to show it, asshole.
7. Overused tropes. Multiple ones.
8. They basically just rehash their past interactions for 2-3 weeks and live HEA. ???? snore.
9. Page 215. His punishment? Fuck you, dude. That's apparently a hard limit for me. Completely unreasonable on his part, it was his fault he lacked self-control Which would be fine in a teasing-punishing manner. But not a real one.
10. Page 222 until the end. This should have been a serious discussion. And the end was abrupt as fuck.
One thing I did like. Literally ONE:

I was enjoying the story until the MMC proposes his submissive "contract" to the FMC. Him stating there was no room for negotiation of the CONTRACT is the biggest red flag I've ever read. It seemed more like he wanted the right to be a dick, which he already was, without her talking back. This is a horrible perversion of the D/s dynamic. Communication is the foundation for these relationships and he wouldn't even give her the courtesy of informing her of what to expect and what was expected of her. He also takes away her ability to stop any of the scenes because if she does, he will send her on her way. Someone who just lost her virginity, has literally had sex TWICE, and knows nothing about the D/s lifestyle.

Thank Goodness this one was short! I used to read this author back in the day, but now her work just seems... meh.
I didn't feel for the main female character at all. She gets cut off by her rich awful mother, and then cannot get her master's degree in poetry. (Ugh. What was she planning to do with a master's in something like that?)
Rather than work to earn the money or taking out a loan (you know, like most logical people do), she decides to sell her virginity. If she were selling it to pay for a loved one's surgery, or long-term care, that would have been one thing. But, nope... I don't think that's a good reason!
It goes even more downhill from there, but it's not really worth rehashing. I've read enough BDSM fiction to know that what the stepbrother does is not indicative of that lifestyle, and not how any truly good dom would treat a sub.
The book reads like a knock-off of Fifty Shades of Grey, since the stepbrother is just as clueless about BDSM as Grey was.

I enjoyed the book, but it was lacking in character development and character consistency. Dana's character was a little unbelievable with her innocence. It went overboard even going so far as to make it appear as if she hadn't seen a naked man, touch a naked man or been touched by a man in any way while even being in college.
Mason's character was inconsistent too. He was suppose to be a dominant and unable to suppress those desires. Then comes along his stepsister Dana and he suppresses them.... It seems unlikely for a man like Mason to turn into a vanilla kind of man.
Even the ending seemed a little wrong. I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say that the switch in him just came off as a little wrong.

Twenty-six year old grad student selling off her virginity to fund her education and her ex-stepbrother wins the auction. He’s only doing this because he cares (even though they haven’t seen each other for 8 years) and has no intention of going through with it because (again) he cares. Against his better judgement and control he allows them to sleep together. She wants a relationship and all he wants is a submissive, so he introduces her to the world of BDSM in the hopes that she will walk away from him (which isn’t her thing at all but she tries it so she doesn’t disappoint him) but deep down he has a heart and decides he can’t live without her... This sort of fell a bit short for me...
