A solid origin story retold in modern times of Thor's life, how he got mjolnir and how and why he was eventually banished from Odin to Midgard. We get some nice battles between Thor and Loki with Frost Giants and some pages that show Thor battling out with various enemies from back in the days when he first started out until he's sent to earth to live as Donald Blake.

4.5 stars from me
"the roots of yggdrasil, the world tree, stretching through the sea of space , reaching beyond the dome ogf the sky. older than time, beyond mortal comprehension. aligned with the cosmic axis , joining, nourishing and binding together the nine worlds. nidavellir, alfheim and vanaheim. jotenheim . and our home asgard... asgard. home of the norse gods. and their children. "

the font is interesting... different not my favourite but im guessing it's in order to fit the story.

LOKI WITH A BOW AND ARROW but loki dont bother my girl sif

aw loki and thor being brothers (for a panel im guessing a fight is not far away)

oh so thor and sif are a thing here

sif sleeping on odin's throne, she's so iconic

"sweet sif, always at your ease with thor. how he bends toward you but will not admit it. i would be amused if i wasnt nauseated. i wonder what would happen if you cast your eye upon another. this magic needs but a lock of hair and a little talent. i think we know who will provide what."
aaawww loki only "it as meant to be a joke!a joke!" misunderstood again:(

"thor. i was of mind to send you and your brother to execute a task for me. now i am of a mind to simply execute the pair of you." if it isnt my least favourite character, odin
"what loki has lost through disobedience is yours to grasp through duty and fealty, thor." he doesnt even give loki himself a chance to redeem himself for his JOKE may i add *this action will have consequences*

he comes the mjolnir story "be it reserved for the day when by his deeds shall we know him to be worthy.
he. he. he.
i dont see anything amusing in this.
neither do i. why should it be always 'he' and 'him' and 'his'?
i wish i knew.
as did i."
establishing dynamics here with sif and loki wondering why thor has to be the golden boy , a question thor has himself as well
and we see thor struggling with the expectations burdening his shoulders, every day all he does is try to weild the hammer, a good allegory honestly because truly if we only care to get the title and that's it , that's our life then yes we wont be able to weild the title we're desperately chasing after and the pleasing of others and not ourselves and in thor's case , well, odin.

"there was a time when days went by and you could not be found for you were out on the hunt, wandering the limits of our world.
but now, barely a day goes by that finds you not here. you are much changed.
you're one to talk.
my hair cannit be cut. it was a gift of dwarven magic from loki. i think i prefer it, actually.
and you, thor, do you prefer the changes that rokk and eitri brought to you life?
do not judge me fir embracing my birthright, sif.
i do not judge you.
well, i do.
how do you know it is your birthright? like you, i was also present for the formation of mjolnir. but unlike you, i actually had a hand in it.
i know well that it is your interference that caused the handle to be thus shortened. but even the defect caused by your meddling cannot weaken the mighty enchantment that odin placed upon it.
defect?
how can you be so sure it is a defect and not a part of a plan we know nothing about? tjor, i am part of the story of mjolnir. what is your claim... exactly?
i am the true son of asgard.
so you kep saying."
i adore sif's story and i hate how he treats loki he has , till now at least, done nothing wrong and this kind of behaviour he has endure partially justifies why he did what we all know happens next
but i do also see thor's struggles here and why he would get this rageful, it's a lot

"why did you make me believe that i would be the one to lift mjolnir? why speak words of encouragement and plant the seed in my mind that not only could i be worthy but that i would be?"

"the will of thor. the will of odin. between them not the room to fit to breath."

loki trying to lift mjolnir to save sif , my heart😭 im guessing by this story he always may have had a thing for her

i thoroughly enjoyed this one, it's perhaps my favourite among the avengers origins
for me it was classic elements of the asgardians' story with some stuff i didnt know actually
the art style satisfied me, the font as i said in the beginning fits the asgardian element
loki's presence was prevalent even if the focus was on thor and i liked it, good job:)

A young Thor struggles to live up to his destiny after Odin sends him on an errand to have three magical gifts created - including the mighty Mjolnir!

This one-shot is a prequel to the famous Journey into Mystery #83 in which Don Blake becomes inbued with the powers of Thor. Here, we're focused on the Asgardian side of the origin. We meet a younger Thor along with Sif and Loki and get to see how their relationships form the basis for Thor being exiled to Earth. Odin definitely shows a fatherly tough love for his son, after Thor tears up the Nine Realms when he first learns to wield Mjolnir. I just find it tough to believe that he's actually worthy at that point due to the immaturity he displays by seeking out conflict and battle with the likes of Hela and Surtur.

The art is well-suited to a fantasy story. The heavier linework and shadow make Asgard feel very medieval and torchlit. Asgard has beautiful landscapes and skylines that draw you into the world. The action panels and fantasy creatures are well realized and exciting to engage with. The artists actually suffer a bit in the last few pages that focus on the more modern world. It feels very two-dimensional and not as exciting.

For a one-shot, this was a fun read and works as a great transition from Thor: Son of Asgard, and a perfect companion piece to Journey into Mystery. Nice piece of the Marvel Universe tapestry.

"Avengers Origin: Thor" is a fast-paced and beautifully illustrated retelling that captures the essence of Marvel’s God of Thunder while giving fresh life to his beginnings. It strikes a perfect balance between epic action, mythic grandeur, and character depth, showing not just Thor the warrior, but Thor the son, brother, and hero-in-the-making.
The artwork is bold and dynamic, with colors that practically crackle like lightning off the page, and every panel feels charged with energy. The story manages to honor the classic Norse-inspired lore while making it accessible and exciting for new readers—whether you’re a long-time Marvel fan or just stepping into Asgard for the first time.
A satisfying, visually stunning read that left me wanting to revisit more of Thor’s adventures. Worthy, indeed!

Basic Thor origin story. I’ve read it before, so it wasn’t particularly interesting. The art was also a bit disappointing. I liked reading about Loki but his role in this is, understandably, minor.

Sensé expliquer les origines pour ceux qui n’auraient pas bien suivi, mais tellement confus que c’est illisible

i was hoping it would go more in depth in the relationship between both thor and loki before his banishment to midgard.
