I highly recommend this book for author and anyone looking to increase their positive thought and work on the laws of attraction. It is upbeat, well thought out and left me feeling uplifted. After completing the book I refreshed my blurbs, started a facebook ad campaign and update all my keywords in kdp. An excellent book.
Sadly this is a book I will be looking for a refund for. A lot of the usual stuff about believing in abundance and all that stuff, a few hints about the author's coaching program and very little practical information. One to avoid when there are so many books out there with real actionable information.
I was lucky enough to be a part of the course that helped bring this book into existence, and having read it I can't help but feel grateful for the concepts it teaches. Fantastic work, inspirational, and truly a game changer for anyone who wants to build a career around writing books.
It's not a bad book and Honoree is an inspiring person, but the title does not match the book. Most of the chapters aren't about writing at all but about your money mindset. She has some interesting things to say about money (and some really dubious ones) but I was not looking for a book about money mindset (and I've read better ones). The chapters on writing are good and gave me some new insights, but there are only two about them.
Honoree Corder has hit the nail on the head. I would encourage anyone interested in this book to not just read it but to complete the exercises. I've learned so much by completing the exercise on "limiting beliefs." Excellent resource!
I was expecting more concrete advice on developing prosperity as a writer but found this book to be more about getting your mind right about being a prosperous writer. Good information for people who need that type of advice but not what I was looking for. Still for the new independent author and entrepreneur this book would be a good addition to the book shelf.
I read a lot of books about writing, building a platform, and earning a living from writing fulltime. I find that no one book has all of the answers. But put together, the titles give me guidance on all of the many aspects of being a fulltime writer. The latest book I read is Prosperity for Writers: A Writer’s Guide to Creating Abundance. In this title, author Honoree Corder talks about how writers can earn not only an adequate income from writing, but a substantial one. As she is also a business coach, she discusses the course she teaches on this subject and provides testimonials from the students who have met with such success. This book was not quite what I expected, but that is not a bad thing. Many books I read have loads of ‘how-to’ information. Corder’s book does have some of that, but the bulk of this book is teaching the reader to believe they can do it. She assigns tasks as homework following her chapters designed to change your thinking and belief systems. The beliefs involve anything from believing you can write things people want to hear to wisely managing your money. It puts heavy stress on believing against the common myth in the world that writers must be starving artists and cannot earn a great income through writing. Attitude and a belief system are addressed in other books I have read, but none to the degree as in Corder’s book. For that reason, I give this a solid five stars and highly recommend this title to any author struggling to get going. These are areas in which I struggle daily. By following Corder’s suggestions and pairing it with tools I have read elsewhere, I am finally seeing the big shift in my attitude and beliefs. It’s not an overnight process, and Corder stresses that fact. It’s also not a one and done. These things must become part of my everyday life to reap the greatest rewards. So, pick up this title and be ready to do some deep soul searching. Paired with the many other titles addressing aspects of a writing life, this title is valuable addition to an aspiring author’s toolbox.
I picked up this book to see if there were any super-secret "tricks" other writers are following to become "prosperous." In particular, I was hoping to figure out how to let go of, change, or otherwise work on self-limiting beliefs.
In that respect, this book was helpful. I discovered, quite by accident, that I have a major self-limiting belief about success (my version) and money. Good to know.
As for actual tips on overcoming that belief? Eh. Not so much. Most of the advice concerned visualizations and affirmations, which could easily have been covered in a single blog post. Essentially, this book was eight chapters saying exactly the same thing: Identify your self-limiting or damaging beliefs, create a new belief, reaffirm it every day.
There was some other solid advice here about planning and commitment (to writing, to career, to becoming prosperous, however one defines that), but at times, some of the sections came off as irresponsible; it takes a full read of the text to put those sections into context and understand what the author is trying to say.
All in all, it's not a bad book, but if you're looking for a concrete, step-by-step guide, you'll likely be disappointed.
In reading Honoree Corder’s new book Prosperity for Writers – A Writer’s Guide to Creating Abundance, I was struck by the timing. Things seem to come to you at the very time you need them. And so it was with this book. Having just published my first book, I was experiencing what I can only describe as ‘postpartum depression.’ Like crashing from a sugar rush after eating cotton candy, I was in dire need of a boost, a mind-set change, and an assurance I was indeed on the right course. Publication, while bringing gratification, also brings the bane of every writer’s existence. DOUBT. Yes, I am a writer. Yes, I can make a sustainable living writing. And yes, Corder provides the mental tools to get the job done. Through positive visualization, self-talk and redirecting your thinking, this book sets your feet on the path to realization of your goals. I recommend you get this book, read it and read it again, and follow the steps cleaning laid out for you. It’s not about hocus-pocus, it’s about doing the work. There is commitment involved. Corder’s work will minimize your efforts and maximize your return.
Inspirational and informational for supercharging a writer’s mindset!
This is a phenomenal book. I have read many books on writing mindset and also many books on holistic approaches to money. I have, however, never read a book that combines the two in wonderfully accessible ways. Honoree’s writing is clear, compelling and motivating. She provides practical tips and tools to work with one’s ideas about what our creative lives can bring us in terms of prosperity and abundance. The exercises are fun and if you work them, they work! They are also unique. It is a short book, but I felt like I was highlighting everything because it was so helpful. I’ve already gone back and reread it. Some of the exercises may push you out of the comfort zone, but that is OK because I think the reward is worth it. She draws on her long-standing experience as a coach, her personal experience as well as interviews with other successful writers. Given how many creatives and particularly writers struggle around feelings of deservingness and creating money in their lives, it is a must read. I also highly highly recommend her audio course through her website (same title as the book)which adds another layer as you get to listen to writers over a four week period implement her ideas. She also is seriously engaging speaker!
This is a great book for getting in the right mindset to be prosperous and financially successful as a writer. Inasmuch as we create our own reality, and our beliefs influence our outcome, this is essential reading for any writer who wants to earn a living from their writing.
It is a little light on the action steps, though. Most of Honoree's action steps involve saying your affirmation statements out-loud at least twice a day, giving generously, and writing every day. She fully admits that other books address essential things like craft and marketing, but getting in the right mental state for success is critical, and this book addresses that well. As she quotes Henry Ford: "If you believe you can, or if you believe you can't, you're right."
This book will help you with the essential work of getting into the right mindset for success. Just look elsewhere for specific ways to grow your author career.
If you want to make (more) money as a writer, this book will help you get your head on straight. Throughout Prosperity for Writers, Honorée Corder provides several strategies (including affirmations, visualization, and planning) that writers can use to cultivate a positive mindset centered on abundance and success. After reading the book, I feel inspired, encouraged, and ready to move from mindset work to action.
My one criticism is that the book doesn't have a clear/linear process for implementing the various strategies, so I intend to re-read it with creating an organized process for myself. Otherwise, it's a great read. Highly recommend for writers who don't want to be starving artists and make money from their craft.
For anyone who believes in The Secret, The Law of Attraction etc. this might be the perfect book. Since cynical ol' me has trouble with the concept of "if you just start believing that money is good, money will come to you in abundance, cause the universe will grant it to you", this was definitely not the book for me. I thought that you need to have a good, marketable product (=book) to sell in order to make money, but obviously that is just a very tiny factor in getting rich as an author. It's not about books, it's about your mindset about money. I can't even rate it cause this is simply a philosophy I don't adhere to. Others may have an epiphany reading it.
I enjoyed this book because it challenged my mindset on some very important concepts. Going from “interested” to “committed” is an essential step, one that I’ve been struggling with for years. But Honoree’s STMA 100-Day Action Plan has helped me do just that. The book includes a link to a PDF that I downloaded and filled out. I think I will need to re-read this book every now and then, when doubts creep in again, but I’m fine with that. I’m sure each read will highlight something else I can improve to turn myself into a prosperous writer.
I enjoyed this book. I've read my share of books on mindset and positive thinking and find them to be helpful. The most significant takeaway from this book was the discussion around money. Many of us have conflicting ideas about money - especially artists. As a trained artist (BFA), the study of commercial artists was discouraged in my program. If you made art with earning money in mind, you were seen as not being a true artist. It's something I've struggled with as a photographer and as a writer. Something I still struggle with, to be honest. And I appreciated her discussion on the topic.
I had mixed feelings about this book. It is well written and inspirational and approaches the practical side of gaining prosperity by setting goals that would get you organized and working hard; it also takes a psychological approach and makes you question your beliefs about money. If you like a spiritual approach to things it encourages you to believe, dare to dream, and to share your fortune and it will come back to you. It is along the lines of 'The Secret' and the Law Of Attraction. If you commit yourself to follow everything you will probably do well but there is a lot of commitment. You will lose weight if you stick to the diet. Oh well, time for New Year's resolutions.
This is not a how-to-write book. It is a mindset about writing book and the importance that your thoughts and actions have on your success. If you struggle with thoughts of ever becoming a successful and prosperous writer, this book is chock full of reflective questions and exercises to help transform your thinking. This book will only help you to the extent you implement the practices she recommends.
This book was a huge paradigm shift for me. Motivational, instructive, and well written. If you think you need to scrape by as an author and don't expect success to come your way, you need to read this book. It's all about changing our heart and our mind to expect abundance. Honoree hit the nail. Pick up a copy--I guarantee you'll be glad you did.
As short as this book was the last thing I expected was a lot of repetition or explaining what was coming next. This book is mostly about your mindset, which is important. However, I expected something else from the book - at least a balance of mindset and practical writing steps. For me there are better books out there that deals with your mindset.
Solid advice with a lot of good reminders. I often need books like this to help keep me motivated and keep my mindset where it's supposed to be. I thought it was a good read and provided a lot of helpful examples and exercises. If you're just starting out or have been in this game a while, I feel it is helpful no matter where you are in your writing journey.
This book really resonated with me as a struggling writer. It wasn't just fluff, either. The author offered concrete actions to take to move forward and "close the gap" between where you are and where you want to be as a writer. Very helpful.
Great advice for writers (and, non-writers for that matter) from Honeree Corder. Parts were a bit unexpected but full of wisdom. I especially liked the chapter on the 5 practices of prosperous writers.
If you need encouraged as a writer, pick up this book!! She got the wheels turning for me. She writes down to earth, and I love how easy and practical she makes her work. I'm ready to step into the prosperous mindset this book helped me obtain. Loved it!
Wasn’t the beat book. Great ideas in mindset about money. Helped me to rethink some things. But not a good title for what it was about. Glad I got it on kindle no not paper. Not really recommend it prob can find better book.
While the book does contain some good advice, it's more a general prosperity book than a book about how to make money as a writer. A better title would have been "Changing an Artist's Outlook on Prosperity."
