This is a book to avoid. It seems as though the author was really just trying to build a brand on a Christian that really isn’t Christian at all. The very concept that we need to work towards a “one minute encounter with God” is sad and robs of the life that Christ wants for us. A relationship doesn’t last in minute increments, and certainly doesn’t require something supernatural. God lives with us in the exciting moments equally with the mundane. The concept that the relationship is aimed at creating some supernatural moment takes away from the relationship itself. The indication that that if we’re not getting from God what we want, we’re not praying the right prayer or saying things the right way seems to state that we control God’s plan for our lives.
That all being said, the writing itself is overly redundant and scattered. The chapter divisions appear arbitrary and repetitive, although they seem to indicate themes that don’t really come through. It really just appears to exist to say one minute with God as many times as possible. Again, it seems like a poor attempt to prey on people emotions with a brand intended to sell more books or perhaps a t-shirt. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear that it was terribly successful so this book doesn’t have the potential to lead more people the wrong way.
"One Minute With God" by Rev. Keith Ellis was for me, a bit like a fast food meal at an upscale restaurant. The quality was good and it tasted great, but it left one wanting something a bit more satisfying. Rev. Ellis is obviously a deeply spiritual thinker and leader and appears to be pursuing a Spirit-led life, along with inspiring others to do the same. That is what this book is all about, but somehow the way it was written gives one glimpses through the picket fence as one passes, without giving a complete vision of what is possible and how to reach it. I suppose that is the point, to let one "work out their own salvation with fear and trembling", KJV. I recommend this author and book. The one-star downgrade was for overall cohesion of the book, versus the vision stated at the beginning
The author claims to have had many and regular instances of conscious contact with God, beginning with the healing of his young son from meningitis.
For the most part his theology appears sound. I think he pushes beyond the boundaries though, when he says that everyone can experience these short conversations with God.
Also, there is an incident he describes where he is fishing and God advises him where to fish. While that might have been an important lesson for the disciples, in this instance it makes God seem very trivial. Maybe it is just me, but I don't think God would be telling a person where to fish and giving them a new fishing rod to replace a broken one.
I have started and failed to complete this book on more than one occasion. It just wasn't engaging me. It lingered in my started, but not finished Kindle books and seemed to be taunting me every time I saw it. This year was the year I was going to finish it and do some clearing of the kindle. I think when I initially ordered the book (years ago), I thought it was gonna be more of a daily devotional, like one minute a day with God. That's not what this is. I pushed through this year and did find several areas that thoroughly engaged me. But the overall message to me seemed to be one of "believe big and pray hard and it will happen." I struggle with this because it seems that the flip side then would be "if it doesn't happen, you didn't believe big enough or pray hard enough." To be fair, I do believe that I have had at least one "one minute with God" myself. I do believe that happens! But overall, this book was not the inspirational read that I was looking or hoping for...
Lord, I’m a receiver, in the name of Jesus. Right now I’m asking You, Lord, for one minute, a supernatural sixty-second encounter with You. Lord, right now I believe that You’re in this place, and I lift my hands in surrender and I release any wound, any hurt, any frustration in my life. Right now, Lord, I want to be activated. Right now I believe that the Word teaches us that there is impartation and activation. Jesus just spoke the word and things happened, and so right now I speak the word: Lord, I’m activated! I am imparted with the glory of God that sixty supernatural seconds is coming to my life. For some it will come today, for others it may come tomorrow, and for some it may come next year, but I’m getting mine now! I receive the one minute with God, the sixty supernatural seconds that has changed my life forever. I will not be denied. Thank You, Jesus!
Dr. Ellis has shared so much in this book in such a simple way. I get it! Now I must live it! My life depends on my relationship with Jesus. If I don't spend time in His Word each day, I won't get to experience all He has planned for me. This book shows you how to get healing and anointing for your walk with Him and to achieve His purpose for each of our lives.
What a blessing this book has been,I am encouraged and I believe I will receive my 60 Supernatural seconds with the Living God,and I recommend this book to anyone who is seeking an encounter with God as you read about the encounter that Dr.Keith Ellis had it will encourage you to seek God more to receive your own encounter
God is great and worthy to be praised ,what He says is exactly what He always do..God be praised Amen
I didn't fully read this. Too much about HOW to get to God and all His many human family members with the help of the bible. God is a loving higher being. Belief is what you need. And I do believe. I am God and God is me. I talk with Him on a daily basis as well as many other spiritual beings. Start my day with thankfulness. I am glad your son received a miracle. Miracles do happen. Feel your son chose to come back. I am sure this would do wonders for many others. Just not for me.
This was one of the best spiritual books I have read in a long time. I must say that it was very interesting, and it made me think of my time with the Lord. In the end, I had tears in my eyes because of the prayer that Dr. Keith Ellis prayed, was absolutely beautiful, and it was meant for me. Father God, thank you for this book and the opportunity to be able to read it. God bless the author and his family. Thank you. 🥰🙏❤️
This book is so powerful teaching how to have an intentional moment with God. We have to be open and seeking it, because God won't push Himself on us. But once you have that encounter with God it changes everything!!
So glad to have found this book. Gave me a lot to think about.
I found this book to be very encouraging in my walk with God. I carefully digested the author's words about seeking to glorify the living God in everything I do. I found myself allowing the Holy Spirit to freely use me more each day. I will continue to follow the author's suggestions in seeking a minute with God.
I would recommend this book to everyone. This book is very detailed and full of wisdom and encouragement. One Minute With God is a lifetime of Change for your life.
Reading this book has been so inspiring and encouraging to me. It is my desire to sit quietly before the Lord and meditate upon Him and have that One Minute With God encounter.
This is a book to read over and over and I will be doing just that. It gave me encouragement and I do believe that I will receive my 60 supernatural seconds with the Father. This book has been a blessing to me and I recommend this author to anyone seeking a closer encounter with the Living God.
Such a good book...I could not read fast enough. Well, actually you don't want to because reading at a slower, even pace will help to absorb all that God desires ❤🙏
Keith Ellis is a good story teller and has articulated his experience very well. I have thoroughly enjoyed the book especially that it engages the reader and never leaves readers behind.
Awesome...thank you Dr Keith for sharing your miracles and walk with God and encouraging and assuring me and others it can happen to us as long as we have faith and patience with full trust. Glory be to Lord God..Sweet Jesus I love you...xx
I read this book just at the right season of my life. Thank God! It affirmed many revelations that I already had from God, and I could totally relate to what the author was driving at. "After obeying His instruction, you partner with God to release the supernatural light that displaces the darkness that has been engulfing your life."
Some of the bible verses that stood out for me are "But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God." (Samuel 30:6 KJV) Keep an attitude of gratitude - "Enter the Temple gates with thanksgiving; go into its courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise Him." (Psalm 100:4) Peace - "And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and mids safe in union with Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7) "You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you." (Isaiah 26:3)
Some quotes from the book that I think are good to follow are "Keep your focus on God no matter what." "Have the faith of God"
This was an interesting book - mostly autobiographica - about the kinds of things God can accomplish in one minute. He encourages us to be prepared - and gives us steps to do so - so that when our turn comes for a 60 second miracle, we're ready.
