The author suggests that one might like to make one's own list. Mine would be: what the fuck do I know? Certainly not enough to be waxing on about the greatest calculations. In any case, this was an insightful and engaging way to present a mix of history and mathematics, and well worth the time I spent with it. It was also a bit depressing in that it brought into stark clarity just how much math I don't know anymore. I don't think there was anything here I didn't learn in college, and most of it I once understood on at least on some level, but now... not so much. I would have to go back and relearn broad swaths of math to really get it. But putting that aside, I liked the authors exercise of attempting to rank the calculations, his scholarship seemed deep, and he was adept at communicate some difficult concepts.
