“A slam-bang thriller born of today’s headlines. No Mercy will take your breath away.”
Award-winning author, Kathryn Johnson, introduces new characters in Book 3 of her popular series, Affairs of State.
Kate Foster, Chief Scientist for NASA’s Heat Wave Project, works late into the night with her team. The last thing she expects is three terrorists breaking into her laboratory. Then things get worse. The intruders kill one of her people, kidnap her lead physicist, and hijack her satellite--with plans to turn it into a lethal weapon.
Daniel Rooker, former Special Forces operative, is tasked with tracking down the intruders and stolen codes necessary to reclaim the rogue satellite. If he fails, countless innocents will die. But only Kate has the knowledge to use the sophisticated data and regain control of Heat Wave. She has no choice but to accompany Rooker’s team on their most dangerous mission.
When trouble knocks, Kate’s all about logic; she uses her head. Rooker’s a man of action; he prefers brute force. There’s never been a less likely match. But along the way, they discover that--just maybe--opposites do attract.
Nothing is what it seems, where Affairs of State are concerned.

I voluntarily reviewed this book through The reading Deals review club. It is my first book I have read in the series but I didnt find it hard to get into the characters; and right from the beginning of the book, it was filled with twists, turns, and suspense. I liked the characters and the book alot. I found it to be a real good book, and very interesting. I will sometime find the other 2 books in the series and read them. If you like interesting thrillers, then this is the book to read.

"No Mercy," the third installment in the wonderfully thrilling and suspenseful Affairs of State series by Kathryn Johnson, steps up the game and broadens the world we've come to know and love through Mercy. In this entry, the focus is on Mercy's cousin Kate, along with a highly trained team of experts led by Daniel Rooker, as they desperately try to recover control of one of NASA's satellites before it is used as a weapon of mass destruction.

From the opening pages until the very final page, you won't be able to put down this pulse-pounding tale of international intrigue. This author provides indelible proof that espionage thrillers are alive and well. I can't wait to read more of the further adventures of Mercy and her comrades.

I think this book has a different twist than the two previous books in this series. I am also glad that I got this from Reading Deals Review Club in exchange for my honest opinion.

This story is an International Mystery/Thriller with a twist of Science Fiction.

Mercy's cousin, Kate Foster, is known for her work in science. When that livelihood is threatened by robbers who come into her world, she turns the tide and chases after them in theirs. She is book smart but is she street smart? Will she need help from Daniel Rooker, a man who she feels wants nothing more than to take control of her?

I love the surprise twists and turns all the way to the very end. I also love how we see the inner workings of both Kate and Daniel as they go in search of the bad guys.

Warning: This is for Mature Audiences due to Violence, Adult Language, and Sexual Situations.

I adore Mercy and was disappointed to find that she wasn't the star character of this book; however, I quickly became fond of Kate (Mercy's cousin). The storyline is one that we can relate to - it's like it was ripped right out of the daily headlines! The character development was fantastic and I loved the building tension between Kate and Rooker. I would have liked a little more development of Adam, though. I do hope to read more about this couple in another book in the series! Can't wait for book #4!

Disclaimer: I won this book on Goodreads.

I liked the story. The plot had satisfying twists and there was plenty of action and suspense. The characters were well-described. I appreciated that the team leader was a female who had unabashedly fought for her position.

Notes: There were a few spelling mistakes. Also, the number and age of Amanda's children changed between chapter 1 (four adults) and chapter 22 (three school-age kids), which is odd.

I downloaded No Mercy as a free book from Amazon. I really enjoyed the plot for this story, unfortunately, Kate never grew on me, and I had no idea why she Rooker were attracted to each other. The villain was easy to guess, but there were still enough twists to keep me interested. A good read- especially for a freebie

There are a lot of twists and turns making this an exciting action pack read. Ms. Johnson does a great job keeping the reader’s attention with a doubt, tension, and romance. You are left wondering whether or not Kate and Rooker will ever make their relationship last or will it be the end for them all.

As we all know one of the scarcest things in the world today is terrorists it is no different in this book when they burst into Kate’s lab leaving one dead and Kate not knowing who to trust. Her satellite seems to be what they are after leaving her and Rooker racing against the clock to try and stop them.

I have not read anything by this author and thought it was a good read, it kept my attention. The plot was good as well as the characters. There are a few errors but nothing that really troubled me. The characters are likable. You have no trouble relating to them. The action is exciting and thrilling.
