The Hyte Maneuver

Rate this book
The Cops are trying to connect the dots... Terrorism, Airplane Hijacking, and a Serial Killer using New York's 5 Burroughs as its hunting ground is killing the survivors. Why?
-- When the Trans Air Flight from Tangier to New York is Hijacked, The first class passengers are now hostages and find themselves in deadly peril, for when the plane lands in New York, the coach passengers are released and the first class passengers must face the hatred and fanaticism of the terrorists.
-- When Rescue comes engineered, by hostage negotiator Ray Hyte, the passengers are freed -- except for those murdered by the terrorists -- the hijackers killed and the trauma is over.... Or is it?
-- Soon after the rescue, a serial killer working with brilliance and the utmost ruthlessness, begins murdering the surviving passengers. It soon becomes apparent that no one will be spared-unless the killer turns out to be one of the passengers.
-- It becomes Raymond Hyte's task to catch the killer, the urgency intensifies when he falls in love with the daughter of one of the victims. The battle between the ingenious murderer and the master policeman makes up the core of this enthralling thriller, while its climax is as unexpected as it is fair.

David Wind has written an engrossing story with tremendous pace and authenticity of detail. It is a book to be savored, although perhaps not on a plane from Tangier....

International award winning author and double B.R.A.G. Honoree, I have published forty-six novels including Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery, and suspense thrillers. I live in Florida, with mywife Bonnie.

A Hybrid Traditional and Independent Author, I became an independent publisher, author, and writer in 2008 with Angels in Mourning, my 'homage' to the old-time private detective's of the 50's and the 60's. (I used to sneak them from my parents' night tables and read them as a young boy.) Angels is a contemporary take on the old-style noir detective and won the Amazon.com Book of the Month Reader's Choice Award.

The first book of my Sci-Fi Fantasy series Tales of Nevaeh. Born to Magic, is an international Amazon genre Best Seller, Awarded the Silver medallion from the Drunken Druid International Literary Awards, and was a Kindle Review of Books finalist for Fantasy Book of the year. The final book of the series, A Dance of Light and Dark, Volume 8, was released on September 1, 2022.

Among my Mysteries & Thrillers are The Hyte Maneuver, (a Literary Guild alternate selection); The Sokova Convention, The Morrisy Manifest, Desperately Killing Suzanne, The Whistleblower’s Daughter, and Out of the Shadows.
My first non-fiction book, The Indie Writer’s Handbook, Designed for Independently Published authors, was honored with a B.R.A.G. Medallion for literary excellence, and awarded the Bronze Medal by the Florida Authors and Publishers Association.

I wrote a contemporary fiction novel, based on the Harry Chapin Song, A Better Place to Be, was named a B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree, signifying a book of the highest literary quality, and written by an independent writer; and, A Better Place to Be also received the Bronze Medal Award from Ireland's Drunken Druid International Literary Awards.

Wow I loved this story, I didn't want to stop listening and got through it in a day. It had me that hooked. I loved the whole suspense on the plane ride of what was going to happen next and then spent the rest of the book trying to work who the killer was. Every time I thought for sure I knew who it was the detectives would start suspecting that suspect and I would change my mind.
When a plane is taken hostage NYPD Negotiator Raymond Hyte and his team is called in to secure the hostages release. Six months after that fatal day Hyte is stuck behind a desk and comes across a name he recognises, one that will change his life for ever and it is just the beginning. Another name of a murder victim seem familiar and Hyte spots a very frightening pattern one that sees him playing cat and mouse with a deadly foe and the only connection he can see is what happened on Trans Air flight 88.
I liked the narrator and he did a great job of keeping me hooked. This is most definitely a book I would recommend getting.

Powerful and nonstop

This book is just non stop thrills and mystery. It starts with a plane hijacking and flows into murder. The author does such a good job building the characters that you feel like you are investigating with the police. I wasn't sure if the killer until the very very last.

An incredibly fascinating book

This is a story that you won't be able to put down. It's very well written and as suspenseful as can be. The ending is totally unexpected. Definitely read this book!!!

I figured out this one pretty early on. nevertheless it held my interest to the end. at first i wondered why it seemed as if the ending of the hijacking would be the end of the book, but since it was only 25% of the way through, I knew it couldn't be. and in fact that was just the beginning if the meat of the story. well crafted. the political shenagins in the police department were very frustrating, but i guess you need to put in some friction. I would recommend this book for a good long-weekend read.

COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!

This taut, well-written thriller was simply impossible to put down! Right out of the starting gate, it begins with a nerve-wracking, play-by-play takeover of a 1980's passenger plane by an intelligent but lethal terrorist. We are relieved when the head detective, Hyte, along with a small swat team, come to the rescue, saving most of the passengers with minimal body count.

That scenario alone would be enough for me, but the creative David Wind doesn't stop there. Soon, one by one, the first class survivors are being picked off––deadly medieval style––and the book catapults us into a race against time to try and stop this new hunter who appears to be totally unstoppable.

With appealing characters and some fascinating psychological profiling of the psychopath's mind, this book had me from the very first page to the very last. Definitely recommended!!

The Hyte Maneuver
: David Wind

This suspense thriller/ police procedural/ murder mystery begins with a plane being hijacked and continues with the investigation of what happened. The listener will be drawn into the story and will spend their time "helping" solve the crimes. David Wind is a new to me author, but I plan to check out more of his work.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Tim Welch.

I read this one in hardcover when it first came out, and liked it then. A year ago I downloaded it to my kindle to keep in my library and re-read it. I had forgotten how powerful this police procedural / terrorism novel was. The first third is about terrorism, the last 2/3's is a police procedural-srial killer book. Before the advent of 9/11 this author had a scene during a plane hijacking that made my blood curl.... Things could have played out this way. But the last 2/3's is the truly interesting part. I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it, but I will say, READ THIS BOOK it's worth the time.

This type of thrilled is not usually the kind of thing I would read, but knowing David Wind's work - I took a shot - WOW! I only wish he had written a sequel so I could spend another weekend just reading about Raymond Hyte.
