My stepbrother thinks he owns me. Six years ago, he disappeared. No calls, no texts, not even a postcard.
Suddenly he's back- bigger, badder, and cockier than ever.
I want his massive arms wrapped around me. I want him in my bed each time he gives me that smirk. Every time he touches me, I'm ready for him to pin me to the wall and make me scream.
Too bad lust doesn't mean forgiveness.
---
I'm coming home and I'm bringing hell with me.
Four years ago, I was given an impossible choice. Staying meant putting Alexis in danger. The only way I could protect her was to disappear.
I spent four years on the other side of the world getting shot at and dragging dying kids out of firefights, my every dream haunted by her memory.
The thought of all the ways I'd put my hands on her body and my mouth on her skin kept me sane.
Then I found out the world went crazy: My father married Alex's mother. He'd taken over the town and its criminal underworld.
I thought by leaving I'd keep her safe, but I only put her deeper in harm's way.
Now I'm back to fix my mistakes. Alexis is mine, stepsister or not, and my father will pay for what he's done.

**BONUS! For a very limited time, Hawk includes two complete standalone novels: Blackbird and Mockingbird**
I received a copy for an honest review. I have to say that this was almost as good as Paradise Falls this is a different story line but it is still about the corruption in town and how it seems that every time they get rid of some of the bad apples that are ruining the town here comes some more in this case Hawk and Alexis have been friends since they were in elementary school and when they became seniors ready to graduate from high school they realized that they cared deeply for each other as a man for a woman but Hawk found some information on his fathers computer that made him think that his father killed his mother and confronted his father and his father beat the crap out of him and threatened Alexis and sent him away and told him never to return and if he attempted to contact her in any way her would have his friends use her as a whore Hawk was only 18 he wanted to stay but he didn't know anything he had no one to help him so he left and join the Navy Alexis in the mean time was very upset because she thought Hawk left her with out explanation and she was crushed but she went off to college because she wanted to be a biologist but when she came home for Thanksgiving her mother had married Hawk's father and moved into his house Tom was Hawks father and he wanted Alexis and her sister May to call him Dad but he wasn't related to them but her mother insisted so they did May was upset and she could wait to be with her sister Alexis barely got in the house before May was in her room they spent a lot of time together while she was home before she was to return to school Tom showed up to her bedroom door with two cops and took her away saying she need a rest and took her to a mental hospital and threatened her and May and made her change her major letting her know that he was the only one who ran that house and she better not forget it she was so scare she wanted Hawk to come and save her but Tom told her that she was never to mention Hawks name again and she didn't It has been six years and she is helping Tom who is running for Mayor with his campaign she and May are passing out hot dogs and Hawks walks right up to her because he has come back for her and he is not leaving with out her no matter what she is not happy to see him but secretly she is but she cannot trust him he is big and strong and not scared of his father or any of the cops that work for him because the police department is still corrupt Tom just took over for the Katezenbergs who were running the town before they went to jail Alexis is scared but May seems to be thrilled that Hawk is back and she believes that he comes to rescue them but he doesn't have a plan but will do anything to protect them from his sick father and he tells Alexis almost everything and the Forth Fire works in the park Alexis works as an assistant for Tom and she reports things to Jacob and Jennifer she became close to the Kane's when May was having a problem in Jacob's class and she didn't want their mom and Tom to know so she had Alexis come and speak with Jacob instead and she broke down and told them everything and they have promise to help her and May get free of Tom but now Hawk is back but doesn't know what to do so when his father told him to leave town 24 hrs after he got there he decided that the only way to look out for the girls was to move back into his family home with them he always wondered why Alexis mom never really liked him but her dad did and his mom liked Alexis but his dad would never let him invite her over to their house now that he is in he waits to be with her but he knows his father cannot be trusted so he bides his time he sees Alexis leave the house for a run one morning Hawk fallows sees Alexis talking to a man and a woman he kind of remembers the woman somethings are different about her but not the man he is seen and told to come out and he speaks with Jacob he learns that Jacob could teach him somethings and Jen encourages Alex to tell Hawk the whole story and he might tell her if she asks him so they finally confide in each other. This is a very intense and suspenseful romance but a well written story you can actually feel the association with the people in the book. Recommend. Readers 18 and over.
Honestly, this book was a DNF for me. I hate saying that, almost as much as I hate doing that. I'm known to stick it out, no matter how much I'm not enjoying it just because I want to see if it redeems itself. But unfortunately for this book, there were too many issues.
My biggest issue was consistency...there was none. Information would switch depending on the chapter and contradict itself multiple times. One time I can over-look but when I was approaching 3 and more, I just couldn't read anymore. What's really sad is I love stepbrother books and this one had a really interesting story-line, unfortunately that just wasn't enough to keep me reading.
Ok that just ended at 32 percent.lol I guess I have blackbird(which I already read) and mockingbird on here as well. Anyway this was an ok read. Some suspense and action going on as well as their romance. Idk I just couldn't get into it too much. H And h were ok together and some steam moments.
Safety gang safe: no OW/O/M , No one else at all. h was a virgin and we don't get confirmation if H was or if he was celibate during the 4 years. But I'm pretty sure their was no one. before he left at 18 they were always together and known each other since forever.
This is the kind of story that really grabs at our heart and squeezes tightly. I can't imagine going through what Hawk and Alexis did. Disturbing, sick, and painful both physically and emotionally.
Such an original stepbrother romance with an evil guy who acts like a calculating psycho, a criminal secret that has a town by the guts, and two characters who lose everything but still manage to love each other fiercely.
The author does an excellent job to recreate the years of them growing together, sharing normal school days and a deep friendship. The slow pace allows for a detailed development of the plot and the relationship. After four years separated, they have to come to terms with all kinds of twisted emotions.
With a double POV and episodes from the past, the truth starts to come out. I enjoyed the struggle, both at getting free from the clutches of their enemy and how they fought against betrayal and guilt over the past. There were a couple of times when I got confused, though. They seemed to recollect how and why they were separated, which I thought they were explaining to each other, but then later on they had to explain it again as if they hadn't been aware of it already. Also, they had sex so soon before she trusted him, and then again and they almost acted as if that had been the first time. Confusing.
As I read on, the second half of the novel is an intense race of dark secrets, thrilling action, surreal conspiracies and sick twists. I have to admit I was surprised and wowed more than a bit. The full-throttle action at the end has an almost James Bond-feel that still boasts that dry sense of humour that can be glimpsed throughout the text. All in all, a hell of a story. Read it and enjoy!
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Welcome to Paradise Falls and all of the underground corruption that still lives there....for now! This book is a spin-off of "Paradise Falls", and follows its' plot, as we meet a few new characters in the town. If you read the first book, you already know of all of the corruption and the steps that have been taken to "clean up" the town. This book has the return of Jennifer and Jacob, as they strive to return their town to a safe place to live. In this episode, we follow Hawk and Alexis, who have been apart for over four years. After Hawk's father Tom runs him out of town, he joins the marines, only to return to save the girl he was forced to leave behind. I won't tell you any more and spoil it for you, because it is definitely worth the read, and you will want to get all of the juicy details yourself. Abigail has outdone herself with this book! Her unique writing style has once again given us a romantic thriller, complete with so many twists and turns, you aren't quite sure where the story will end, until the end that is. Full of suspense, intrigue, lots of violence, and of course, its' fair share of hot, steamy sex scenes between Hawk and Alex, along with a heaping dose of love and protection for Alex's sister May, you won't be bored. Nor will you be able to put this one down. Ms. Graham has a vivid imagination, and the wonderful gift of being able to share it with us through her writing. I can't wait to see who will be the next couple from Paradise Falls!
This is the first book I've read by Abigail Graham. I'm sure it won't be the last. Alexis and Hawk have known each other since third grade. Hawk finds out something about his father and he has no other choice but to leave without saying anything to Alexis. Four years pass and Hawk is back home. It is a well written with a few editing mistakes, but over all great book.
Hawk is a standalone Stepbrother romance by Abigail Graham. This was not your typical stepbrother romance. The storyline was solid and well thought out. The twists and turns were exciting and had me hooked from beginning to end. The characters were well developed and had lots of chemistry.
I was given this book for an honest review. I'm sorry to say I had a hard time getting through the book. The book started of good but it quickly lost me. First, they have sex for the first time and she has no pain or blood? She takes him without an issue and that's it? Second, neither one of them wants to tell the other what happened those years ago and I felt that dragged out. Plus, if you hated him that much you wouldn't let him in your pants every time you see him. Third, Alexis knows the danger staying in this house and instead of taking her sister and running she stay. That's not brace that's stupid. Plus, she meets these "teachers" and without knowing why they are there she just tells them everything? Hawk too! I know these novels aren't meant to be reality but I just had a hard time making it through this one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
For those that are familiar with Paradise Fall series I think you will have a very special appreciation for this book. This story picks up about a year after the events that happen in that series. Don’t worry for the one that have not read the series, I think this book is fine as a standalone. But for the record let me give you a little insight on what this town has went thru. There are a lot of people in the town that suffer a lot of the similar loss due to a bridge that had collapsed. This town had high officials that were corrupt. A police department that was run by these corrupt officials. There had been drugs and sex trafficking. There were people that carried and worked hard to try to bring that bad guys to justice. So you see this is just some of what this town has been thru, it has been thru a lot. Now that you have a little insight of the past let get on with the “Now”. Hawk who was in love with Alexis since they were kids. Due to certain circumstance he was forced to leave her behind. He was never supposed to enter Paradise Falls ever again, but could he stay away from Alexis for every? His heart would not allow that. Hawk would of never dreamed that the woman he loved was now his step-sister and he would of never believed the hell she went thru and is going thru now. Alexis is heartbroken. Her heart was ripped out the day Hawk went missing. Yes that is right missing. He left without word. She did not know if he was dead or alive. Would he really leave her behind and never look back. Now here she is faced to face with the man she has loved for years. Alexis has a heartbreaking past. I would say she has been to hell and back, but the truth is she has never left hell. Her and her sister live it every day. Alexis can’t leave, if she does what will happen to her sister and she can’t take her sister with her. She is stuck between a rock and a hard place. What is she to do? Who can she really trust? Tom Richards who is Hawk’s father is an evil man. His goal is to be mayor and there is no one that will stand up against him. In his mind and the mind of others she owns that town. People fear him. Tom is not capable of love and the hatred he has for Hawk is unreal. I received this book for an honest review. I love Abigail’s books. She is an amazing author and does amazing work. In this book you will have love (yes hot and steamy parts as well), mystery, and danger. There is a lot that happens in this book and it is a book well worth reading.
If you read and enjoyed Paradise Falls you'll want to read this book. Hawk was sent away by his father four years earlier with the threat of having Alex taken, beaten and raped by his men unless he stayed away. Well, if that doesn't work I really don't know what will. It's insane the craziness that runs ramped in Paradise Falls, all the men in power are dirty and corrupt why is that? Maybe it's something in the water there ;) anyway, it has taken Hawk four years but he's returned and he plans on taking his father down...well, that was until he found out that his dad married Alex's mom and now Alex is living under his fathers roof. Needless to say Hawk isn't happy about that and he is going to do everything he can in order to protect Alex the way he should have done four years ago. I love Alex and Hawk together and May (Alex's younger sister) is a breath of fresh air. Jacob and Jennifer from Paradise Falls play important rolls in this story and it is just as action packed as Paradise Falls was. I look forward to seeing what else happens in Paradise Falls and maybe May will get her own story somewhere down the road.
Oh and there was one part around 80% through the story that had me scratching my head in disbelief. I seriously didn't see that little twist coming.
This is my first book by this author and I can tell she’s very talented, even though I felt confused in the beginning of this THIS story. It was hard to understand where some of the beginning was coming from. This story was surrounding Hawk, who was a true alpha male, strong, complex with his protecting instinct and the true knowledge of his mother death. Alexis was a fighter, strong-willed and protector for her sister(May). Hawk and Alex have been friends since fourth grade and leading up to high school their feelings begins to changed to something more without telling each other. After graduation, Hawk's mother died of an assumed heart attack but later revealed otherwise and he's beaten and run out of town by his father. His father(Tom) ordered him to never return, under threat of harm to his beloved Alexis. This story is full of corruption, murder, secrecy, kidnapping and extortion that ramble throughout this book. After four year in the Navy, Hawk return to Paradise to find that his father(Tom) had married Alexis mother and his sweetheart was now his stepsister... Alex is a virtual prisoner of her cruel, politically connected stepfather, as she tries to protect her baby sister(May). I liked that this wasn't a woe is me type of book, Alexis(Alex) didn't depend on others and could've been considered weak and rebellion but the author didn't have her making stupid decisions because of it. In the end. But when Hawk and Alexis work together to bring Tom and his criminal friends down, they will be pushed passed their limits and get a new revelation that Alex's mother killed Howard(Hawk) mother to start a relationship with Tom. CAN WE SAY A MESS!!!. Overall, a good story full of action.
I wanted to like this book. I know people say that a lot, I mean it is kinda obvious you wouldn't buy a book you didn't think you'd enjoy. But, I really did TRY to like it. It was just so boring. The author seemed to be trying to hard for "dark romance" and ended up somewhere near "woe is me" and "let's blame all our problems on a supremely one-sided character using the excuse 'he's just evil'".
It was really just annoying. This may just be me though.
I am pretty annoyed when a heroine doesn't do anything to correct her situation, and when the hero shows up she's like "no I got this... I'll just be over here whining about how you left me all alone... even though you had no way of knowing what was going on, I am going to pretend like you are psychic and you purposefully left me to rot. Then after I'm done with that I'll continue crying over my situation and refusing your help even though I won't even bother to help myself."
I would recommend you give this book a shot if: 1. This isn't something that bothers you. 2. This, again, may just be me, but the story felt like V.C. Andrews with the dark and scary mansion type set up. I like that about it. It had a hopeless small town feel and I really liked the setting. 3. You don't care if there isn't a good reason for the heroine's current situation. 4. You are prepared to suspend common sense and go with the story.
I could see myself liking this story if I hadn't read so many like it before that were better. I have a few other books by Abigail Graham that I am still excited to read-- so this book didn't turn me off to her as a writer, just wasn't interesting to me.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
In this book we meet Howard (Hawk) and Alexis (Alex). Hawk and Alex have been friends since they were little but when they were in high school their feelings changed but neither had the guts to tell the other. A couple of weeks before graduation Hawks mother dies of a heart attack or at least that is what the official report says but he knows it was something more and confronts his father about what he learns. His father threatens him and makes sure he leaves town the hard way. 6 Years later he is back and ready to finally claim his woman and make sure his father feels his full wrath.
Alex missed and needed Hawk all those years that he has been gone, but there is no changing the past now. Alex knows she has to stand on her own two feet and stand up for herself and her sister. The appearance of Hawk can mean nothing now. As long as she keeps telling herself that right.
The beginning of this book was a little hard for me to get into but one I was able to really get into the heart of the characters I was unable to put it down. This book has many twists and turns to it. It will have you on the edge of your seat to the very end as well as saying who did what? There is so much I want to tell you about this book but feel it would ruin the overall story-line the author is going for. This book is part mystery and part romance. Over all it is an amazing read and I would recommend it.
It was terrible! I gave two stars, because it is edited well. That's the extent of it. The description says NOTHING of this story taking place in Paradise Falls. I probably wouldn't have even downloaded it if I had known. This story is bad continuation of Jennifer and Jacob's story from Paradise Falls (which was a completely over written story).
I hated the way Hawk was written. He was in the Navy. He should be a total badass, but he ends up being completely weak. He comes back for Alexis, but has zero plans on how to get her out of the hell that is her life. He is sharp shooter qualified yet never carries a gun until the last scene of the book?! He depends on Jennifer (and Jacob to a lesser extent) to save him. He is the man in the book. He should be saving himself and his lady love! He beats the crap out of his weak, whimpy brother once. Total let down.
As for Alexis, she is a mess. She cries at everything and stays angry at Hawk most of the time. She claims she is working on getting May, her sister, out, but never manages to do smart things that would take May out of danger. She rarely thinks with her brain, because she spends to much time reacting emotionally to Hawk or his creepy dad.
The sex is hot, but lost some of its luster when the main male character just doesn't shine like he should. Some of the sex was awkwardly timed...like it was out of place in the time point of the book.
I received this book for an honest review. Hawk left years ago to protect Alexis from his father now no longer a young helpless boy he's back to get her back only to find out that she's more wrapped up with his father than he thought. Trying to protect her little sister Alexis has had no choice but to go along with her new stetpfather's plans until the one person she never thought she'd see again walks back into her life. Will she hear him out enough to find out why he left or is she too angry to listen to what he has to say? Together can they find a way to be free or are they stuck under their father's thumb? I really enjoyed this book in fact of the three stepbrother books by this author this is hands down my favorite. Hawk and Alexis have both been through so much at the hands of this one man but they haven't let it beat them down both strong enough to stand alone but now they don't have to they can lean on each other. This book was well written with heat, humor, mystery, and suspense. It is a standalone BUT it occurs in Paradise Falls and has some of the same characters in it plus it happens post when that series ends so to me I wouldn't read it until after you've read the Paradise falls series as this will spoil some things in that book for you. I highly recommend that series though so why not download them both?
If you love step romances then you'll like this one. I enjoyed reading this book and I was hooked from the beginning. The author did a great job on this story. You have a plot and it will keep you on your toes until the very last page.
Who doesn't love hot military alpha males? This book will give you that along with plenty more. Hawk comes back to the town he grew up in for one person and one person only. After arriving into town he realized that everything has changed. The person he wants to get to Alexis, well that just means trouble but he doesn't care. He waited long enough for her.
Alexis can't stand her stepfather and wishes that she knew where Hawk disappeared too. She does what she supposed to even thou she hates it. She looks out for her younger sister and while working she sees Hawk. What do you say to a person you haven't seen and hate him for leaving? Alexis can't believe Hawk is in town.
This book is full of everything going on, be warned that you may not be able to put the book down until you know how everything plays out. The chemistry between the two is hot and steamy. You do get a HEA.
This was a good short story. There were points I was lost and there were points I was so drawn into it. There were times I would connect to the characters and the situations, and made you think. I do think the story could have been expanded. Overview. Hawk was on a mission. After serving 4 years in the Navy, he heads back to his home town on a mission. 1 he wants Alexis back, 2 to kill his dad. When he shows up, he finds that his life as flipped even more. Hawks dad married Alexis's mom. She is now his step sister and she is promoting his dad to be mayor. Alexis takes 1 look at Hawk and is mad. He left her and never c contacted her after he was kicked out of town. She hates him even more that she in now living in HELL. One wrong move could cause problems for her, her sister May, . Or Hawk. But when Hawk and Alexis work together to bring Tom and his criminal friends down, they will be pushed passed their limits and learn the true meaning of family, friends and love.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Alexis and Hawk have known each other since third grade. Neither of them realize how deep their feelings are until the year they graduate from high school. Hawk finds damning information on his father's computer, and he confronts his father. His father denies Hawk's accusations, then forces Hawk to leave Paradise Falls by threatening Alexis. Four years pass and Hawk is back, but his father uses Alexis's safety as leverage to try and make him leave town again. Alexis and Hawk team up with Jennifer and Jacob Kane, to once again clean up corrupt politicians and the police deprtment in Paradise Falls. Very exciting story with lots of action and violent confrontations. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone that enjoys romantic suspense!
Trying to keep your loved ones safe Hawk and Jennifer have been best of friends since the third grade. On the last day of their senior year was to be their first real Date. But Hawk disappeared without a trace. His father told Jennifer he’s gone and nothing else. A few months’ later Hawks dad and Jennifer’s Mom get married. On thanksgiving break from collage Jennifer comes home and next thing she knows she’s under her step-father thumb and never goes back away to college. Four years later Hawk show back up and that’s when all hell break loose. Corruption and a whole lot more are discovered and Hawks father is at the center of it all. This is an awesome book to read. Well written and very entertaining to read.
Ok, technically this was a "stepbrother" story, but Hawk & Alex were childhood sweethearts before crazy took over their lives. There is no way to tell details without giving away the story so I won't. However, this story just blew me away! There are so many twists & turns, personal & family secrets and surprises, just plain evil and complexity going on as well as a complicated love story. I absolutely could not stop reading until the last page was turned!. There were also some very mysterious and intriguing support characters, who I would love to read more about, HINT!! Overall this was just such a good story even though it was a bit dark. A review copy was provided to me by the author for an honest review.
Very interesting read. I would say out of the stepbrother romances written by this author this seems to have the most realistic ending. The story of Hawk and Alexis starts out as a love that has been torn apart by circumstance. Hawk is sent away by his dad and told never to return otherwise Alexis will pay. The only part of this story that was slightly hard to believe is Hawk never seeing Alexis as a sexual being until they were 18. I mean I understand it is possible but teenage boys hormones are on overdrive. Otherwise fantastic story and a great ending that is truly believable. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes steamy romances with high suspense and interesting twists.
Enjoyed reading Hawk & Alexis story. The plot is huge; so exciting with all that's happening. Hawks dad has married Alexis mom, Hawk has proof that his dad murdered his mom the year before, Hawks dad threatens Alexis with a phys ward if she doesn't pretend to be his sexy secretary-Alexis is grossed out by her Tom-stepdad, if it wasn't for her minor sister May she would have left with Hawk long ago. Enter Jennifer and her sidekick husband-secretly both work for the CIA and are investigating Tom, trying to find enough proof to put him away for life. Life on the run gets interesting real fast!! Enjoyed it a lot.
OMG! Awesome book! What a rush! Will have your pulse racing. Storyline is well written, action packed, suspenseful and passionate. Torn apart by outside forces and circumstances beyond their control, Hawk and Alex are given a chance to reconnect and reveal secrets- what happened to drive them apart, where Hawk has been and what Alex went thru after he left. Danger awaits them along with continued road blocks-family drama and corruption but Hawk is determined nothing is standing in his way of protecting and loving Alexis this time. This author’s writing style will have you connecting with the characters and expanding your imagination. Received an ARC copy from author for a honest review.
I have to admit I really enjoyed reading the first two books. The last book in wasn't as good. I had to skip pretty much 6 chapters and by then it was Apollo and Diana were together, having baby, getting married and then the end. The first story is about Hawk and Alexis. Really good. The second story was about Victor and Evelyn and also good. Evelyn father is abusive and Victor has made it his life to protect her until he went to jail set up by Evelyn's father. Hawk and Alexis struggle to get away from Hawks controlling and abusive father. This book had 3 complete stories for only $0.99.
The story line was interesting but there were a lot of flaws.
• it contradicted itself so many times through out the book • it was confusing at times-when you read the second sex scene, it seems like it was their first time....huh?? • Too much ~WAY too much~ information • constantly repeated information - the reason why Hawk left was explained maybe 50 times throughout the book...(okay total exaggeration but you get what I mean).
I did like the action though -although it was towards the end. I hate NOT finishing a book so I stuck this one out. Again, it was a good story but just had too many flaws.
absolutely freaking loved the cross over from the paradise falls book with jennifer and jacob! i know graham has mentioned paradise falls or glimpses of those characters in her other books, but i loved how much of it was present in this book. that was my favorite part, for sure. graham certainly knows how to write an intense book. i have been on a binge with her books this last week. they all tie my guts in knots with the type of suspense that varies throughout each one. hawk was by far one of the more intense books i have read of hers because of the control the tom exerted and the conniving mother.
I really liked the story!!! Some people might be a bit weirded out by this whole 'Brother' thing, to some extent I'm one of them. I don't like ones were they actually grow up together from childhood. But ones like this are okay. I recommend you read and experience the ups and downs, twists and turns, angst, love, passion, and every single emotion in between as you go along on the journey of this amazing couple watching them learn the first taste of love, heart break and second chances. I loved reading this amazing novel.
The editing job on this one is irking me so bad I don't know if I will ever finish it. Seriously - how did they have TWO first times at sex in the same book? Why is the h telling someone that H won't tell her why he left when he just did the chapter before, and she cried crocodile tears over it. Obviously the author evidently did some rewrites and didn't account for them or something, but it makes enjoying this read really hard.
So hopefully I can go back to it in the future, the storyline interests me and for the most part I like Hawk.
Ok I am half and half. I am being surprisingly generous for giving this 3 stars. The author made Hawk out to be a civilian with no military experience even though he went into the Navy. He was bumbling around making mistakes all over it. Then Jennifer and Jacob who what and why never got answered. Alexis was a strong character which to me is weird because the hero was weak. The plot was good and I liked the danger but the execution was weak and from my POV no follow through.
