Slade Sutton might never have thought of himself as a father, but his young motherless daughter was proof to the contrary. So when Annie was suddenly dropped into his lap, Slade knew he needed help. And he'd take it from anyone–except, that is, the infuriatingly flirtatious Val Harding. Why, if Slade wasn't careful, that little lady would have him roped and tied before he knew it.Sure, Val knew a challenge when she saw one–and ex–rodeo star Slade clearly qualified. But somehow she saw through his tough demeanor to the irresistible cowboy at heart. Now if she could just convince Slade that they were all meant to be together...THE DELACOURTS OF An honorary Adams man of Texas finds love – and discovers fatherhood – in a most unexpected way!

With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

Suddenly Annie’s Father: And Baby Makes Three Book 8: Adams Dynasty Book 14 is by Sherryl Woods. This is just a cute novel that deals with problems a single father might have with his daughter when he suddenly gets her back in his life.
Slade works for the Adams Ranch with the horses. He is a quiet man and rarely talks. He just wants to do his work and be left alone. He hadn’t had anything to do with women since his wife, Samantha, left him. She also left their daughter and unable to care for her, he left her with his parents. Now, they are bringing her to him because she needs her father and his parents are too old to take on a troubled teen. Luckily, Harlan Adams understands and moves Slade into a two-bedroom cabin and tells him all he has to do is ask for help.
Harlan Patrick Adams, the grandson, has just come home with his wife, Laura Jenson, her assistant, Val, and their daughter Amy Lynn. He has finally convinced Laura that she could have her singing career as well as be a wife to a farmer. So, between tours and making albums, she is taking a break.
Val is attracted to Slade but he wants nothing to do with that woman! She is not about to give up on him. Nor is she stepping away from being his daughter’s friend. How will he handle that?

Slade Sutton is a bitter ex-rodeo star whose career ended after an accident and then his wife left him and their young daughter, Annie. His parents were taking care of his daughter while he recuperated. But it has been over a year and his daughter is still living with his parents. But when Annie starts acting out the time has come for Slade to take on his role as her father, whether he is ready or not. Slade knows that he needs help. Whether he wants it or not Val Harding befriends Annie and they immediately take a liking to each other. For the past year he has been trying his best to avoid Val because she makes him feel things he has been trying to ignore.

Val constantly flirts with Slade, driving him crazy. But once they give in to the flirting things take a different turn. With some help from Annie, along with Harlan Adams, they will finally get the ball rolling.

Val was attracted to Slade the first time her boss, Laurie brought her home to the Texas ranch. Once Laurie and Harlan married, time was split between the Texas ranch and Nashville for them.

Slade's announcement that his 10 year old daughter was coming to live with him shocked everyone . Annie arrives at the ranch and it's obvious she's got spunk. Val empathizes with Annie and fries closet to both her and her Dad Slade. When he proposed marriage to give Annie a mother, Val is hurt there's no mention of love and turns him down.

Can Slade recover and make Val see he loves her as more than a potential mother for his daughter? A fun and lighthearted story from Ms Woods that you'll want to read.

This book hasn't aged well. Published in 1999 and the dated language and story reflects it. There are truly cringey moments all throughout the story. The young child feels like a pawn for the male and female main characters. The "hero" of the story doesn't come across as sympathetic at all, he reads like a terrible father and his chemistry with Val and his stringing her back and forth feels more manipulative than truly tension or conflict filled. Val and some of the supporting characters also use manipulation to "guilt" Slade. There is a definite "formula" to the story and the characters literally spell out what it is. One scene involving a married character nearly caused me to DNF the whole thing.

I love the Adams family story and this one did not disappoint. Val and Slade were made for each other and Annie made sure that they got together. She could be a true Adams with the way she kept trying to throw them together.

Loved this book!

Val is a bold and direct lady while Slade is quiet and taciturn. But they were meant for each other and finally got their happy ending!
