Where Lightning Strikes is an intense, intoxicating, and incredible story of epic love, the kind that strikes hard and fast like lightning, scorching the soul and crashing through the heart while emotions pour like a rain storm. This is not a typical rock star romance. This is a tale that’s full of feels. Like a kiss takes the breath, Where Lightning Strikes steals the feels. They are no longer yours. You. Are. Owned. By. This. Story.

Oh did Where Lightning Strikes strike me like a sucker punch: fast and furiously. After just a few pages, I was swept into this story with a force as strong as the wind. Captivated. Consumed. Controlled. I was all in—so much that it was difficult to tell where the story and I began, and ended. Body trembling. Breath holding. Fingers coiling. Eyes tearing. Lips quivering. Heart beating. Emotions bleeding. Mouth smiling.

Where Lightning Strikes is a penetrating force that permeated though me so quickly that I had to take a few breaks at first to reign in or try to suppress the flowing waterworks. My emotions battled with my brain to stay strong but were powerless as the tide pulled me into this powerful and poignant tale. Each wondrous word cut through me like a sword, willing my feelings to escape as they quickly splattered, crashing all over the pages. Tears cascading like waves hit almost immediately, never relenting the whole time. Heartbreaking. Hopeful. Happy.

I love Baz and Shea’s tale told in A Stone in the Sea and Drowning to Breathe so much—a story that will stay with me forever. With anticipation and anxiety, I could not help but wonder if I would love Lyrik and Tamar’s story as much. If this book would measure up to its predecessor, a duet that both hurt and helped my heart. Dare I say that I adored this story too…maybe even more?

Tamar ‘Red’ King. Red-haired, blue-eyed, petite, curvy, and inked. A perfect pin-up girl package. Beautiful. Sassy. Smart. Bartender at the bar owned by her bestie's uncle. She came to Savannah to escape her painful past, so devastating that she has sworn off men for good.

That is until Lyrik West turned her controlled and closed world upside down a year ago and hasn’t left her mind since.

“I sought safety from that storm in the walls I’d built up around myself…Yet somehow he kept reappearing at the fringes of my life, pushing and prodding and drawing me back into all those excited, convoluted feelings I didn’t want to feel. Lyrik West.”

Lyrik West. The lead guitarist of Sunder and panty-melting hot. Cocky. A manwhore. The ultimate alpha. Dark-haired and dark-eyed. Tall. Built. Covered in ink with art and words that reveal clues to a painful past, the tattoos telling more than words ever will. Women as bed-warmers—nameless, faceless vessels to ease only the physical needs.

Women did not matter. Except Tamar. Lyrik entered the Savannah bar one night with his band, Sunder, and saw the red-headed sassy siren who blew his mind away. Unforgettable. Tamar mattered. A year later when Lyrik is back with the Sunder band in Savannah, she still matters.

“Damn, I loved a girl who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind while her body told an entirely different story. That was the type of contradiction I craved. The push and pull. Hate bristling with want. That girl was a bundle of fireworks and I was certain we’d go boom.”

Like a hurricane, Lyrik and Tamar blew into each other’s lives. Their chemistry and need sparking an explosion with flames that have burned and still burn from ocean to ocean. With Sunder back in town, Lyrik and Tamar are combative once again with sharp tongues slicing insults at each other, masking the burning desire that’s brewing and ready to combust. Tamar hates and wants Lyrik. Her body sparks with need in his presence. Traitorous. Helpless. Heated. Alive.

“Why did I want him so badly? But I guess the saying was true. We always want what we shouldn’t have.”

As the lead guitarist for the popular worldwide and hot band, Sunder, Lyrik can have any woman he wants. Women throw themselves at him constantly. He is never with one—at least two women hang off of his arm and in his bed. One woman haunts his head. The spicy siren. Tamar.

“…Every time she told me I couldn’t have her, the need she stirred in me just grew. She was like a red-headed siren, circling and circling and circling me on unsettled waters until I was trapped in some kind of vortex.”

This story oozes angst, so much that Lyrik and Tamar’s addiction to each other becomes mine. I’m tethered to them, and can’t get enough.

The cat and mouse game they play is dangerous, hurling insults like missiles that penetrate with pain.

“I didn’t love women. But I wanted one. I wanted her. Tamar King. We had a love/hate relationship. I loved messing with her and she loved to hate me for it.”

For Tamar, Lyrik is consuming her. This beautiful and complex man is a mystery that she wants to solve.

“He pressed my hand to my chest. It felt way too strong, and damn it, his heart had to have been beating just as hard as mine. Something flashed in those eyes. Something soft. That was all it took, and something soft inside me wanted to give. To give up and give it all.”

Hot and cold like the flu, burning like a fever. The temptation becomes too hard to resist. Eventually, even temptation has an expiration date.

“My tongue darted out and swept across my bottom lip. Dying for a taste. F it. Figured she was going to kill me anyway. My mouth came down on hers…My palm moved hot over that tat of temptation. The apple and the serpent…I wondered who of us was who.”

Two months in Savannah until Lyrik has to return to LA with Sunder. Two months to give in to temptation, the heat that flows between them like hot lava for over a year. Two months to claim every part of each other. Two months to forget the past—the pain—and focus on the present.

“She was like a bundle of fireworks just waiting for a match. Now I was standing in the flames.”

Lyrik and Tamar are kindred spirits. Two lost souls who have given up hope. Raw with regrets. Filled with emptiness. Void of emotion. Their pained pasts haunt the present, threatening the future.

My heart shatters, bleeding across the pages, tears that start as drops now flow freely. These characters? They are more, so much more, as they steal my soul.

“Sorrow…filling up that dreadful, hollow space. As if we somehow fit. Because the anguish in his voice? It promised he was as empty as me. Lonely recognized lonely. And my heart recognized him.”

Oh the feels. My heart. I’m not sure if it can take much more as it is shattered so much. I pray that it’s repaired soon.

Tamar and Lyrik are tethered to their painful pasts. Balls and chains. Both hold the keys to unlocking each other’s hearts that are barricaded by walls that are slowly crumbling. Piece by piece. Word after word. Kiss after kiss.

Tamar is scared and confused.

“I hated being this girl. Fearful and scared of emotions I didn’t want to feel. But that’s how this boy made me. Shaky and confused and losing the grip of the carefully constructed walls I clung to.”

Lyrik is trying to hold on to his heart, guarding it from girl who is so close to getting inside.

“Red was trying to take me places I didn’t want to go.”

I want to hug them both, as they are suffering from demons long locked up but waiting to be freed.

The desire that burns from the outside starts to seep its way into dangerous territory, close to the heart. Frozen hearts begin to thaw. Emotions begin to surface.

“Guard you heart. Too late. It belonged to him.”

Lyrik is healing Tamar, protecting her and helping her release the chains of the past that bind her. She wants to heal him too, release his demons.

“Regret. Sorrow. Lust. And a longing that nearly brought me to my knees. Desire trembled through my body. I wanted to crawl beside him. To discover every secret. Even though I got the crumbling feeling knowing him would be the end of me.”

Though Lyrik thinks he is dark and destined for sorrow in a self-induced prison, he is an instant light in Tamar’s dark life—a beacon of brightness to which she can't help but follow. He thinks he is unworthy.

I want to hug Lyrik hard and shove him to Tamar, shout that he needs her to heal him. She has the key to his heart…his happiness. He doesn’t see the light.

“I knew without a doubt that this girl didn’t need that. She needed no part of my black, filthy heart. She needed the good I couldn’t give.”

I’m torn apart inside. I don’t know how I have tears left, but they keep flowing. My heart keeps shattering. Over and over.

“My insides felt raw and achy and sore. As if I was bleeding out. Bleeding for this boy when he was only going to cut me deeper. God, this got messy and fast. And I knew better. I knew it all along.”

Hard. Where Lightning Strikes hits hard. Your heart is hit the hardest. Shattered…so many times. This book…a life changer. Soul-stealer. Heartbreaker. A must-read. Not just a rock star story but so much more.

Where Lightning Strikes spins your emotions around like a hurricane—anger, happiness, sadness, frustration, and most of all hope. Hope for a happily ever after. AL Jackson's perfectly penned words are poetic, poignant, powerful, and pull at your heart. Relentlessly. Your heart is tugged so hard when reading this story that it turns into an experience—an enthralling, emotional, and exceptional experience—with an immersion so gripping and gut-wrenching that you are rendered with a deep connection that remains long after you turn the last page.

Five stars are simply not enough for this emotional roller coaster ride. This beautiful and brilliant story stole everything. My heart. My soul. Every feel. I don’t know if this soul-wielding story will give them back. I don’t know if I want it to, as Where Lightning Strikes struck me hard with a book that is so devastatingly beautiful and brilliant. Imperfectly perfect.

5 but should be 10 beautiful, broken, brilliant, and imperfectly perfect stars

Okay guys...it's always a weird thing rating my own books. But I do it here. Often after everything has been edited and formatted and ready to go and I've spent some time away from the characters who've lived inside my head for the better part of a year. Lyrik & Tamar quite literally consumed me. I spent time walking around in a daze as I thought about them, as their story grew within my mind and they became bigger and bigger pieces of my heart. I truly fell in love with them. With their stories. With their spirits. With how they acted and who they truly wanted to be. I pray I did them the justice they deserved. This is a story of hope and beauty, about belief in not only those around you, but in yourself. I hope you enjoy this story just as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Lyric.Is.Bad.To.The.Bone.

Totally loving this series!

Lyric and Tamar haven't seen each other in seven months. Their best friends are getting married, bringing Lyric back to Savannah, Georgia. Tamar is not ready for his return. For that matter, she will never be ready. He is a force to be reckoned with and her defenses against his dominating presence are weakening.

This is a push/pull relationship to the nth degree! A love/hate relationship. A we're getting ready to go "Boom!" relationship. It is gritty and raw. It is angsty and steamy. Did I mention, steamy?

I also loved reconnecting with characters of the two previous books in this series, although this one is a stand alone.

Tamar King hitchhiked her way across the country four years ago, leaving family and friends behind, to escape the pain and torture a ruthless man had inflicted upon her. She has been hiding out in Savannah, Georgia, camouflaged in tattoos, heavy makeup and dyed red hair. When she looks in the mirror, she can barely identify herself. Everyone assumes she is strong, able to take care of herself and fearless. Tamar misses the girl she once was but can no longer afford being the naive girl of her past, because that terrifying past may very well catch up with her. She has built up so many impenetrable walls of self-preservation, she can no longer feel.

Trying to break through those walls is one stunningly attractive man, who won't take "No!" for an answer. Lyric came barreling into her life nearly a year ago and is determined to sleep with her. Tamar goes into panic mode whenever he is near her, because he is way to dangerous for her to handle. She also knows he is a lot like herself .... he has secrets and a past that won't let go.

Lyric West, with his devastating smile, his thick, black, unruly hair, and eyes just as dark, has women wilting at his feet wherever he goes. Tattoos cover his gorgeous body. He is a rock god and guitarist for the band "Sunder." There is usually a girl on each arm vying for his attention, of which he has no problems satisfying, and at the same time, no less. Problem is that side of him is rearing it's ugly head in regret and shame, because a woman he affectionately refers to as "Red," sees him as the manwhore he has become and she is disgusted by his behavior. This same woman is constantly saying "No!" to his advances. She is driving him nuts. Lyric isn't used to rejection. Women beg to be with him.

Tamar is getting underneath his skin. He unwillingly finds himself wanting to give his all to her, desiring only her in his bed, to actually care about her. These crazy thoughts are freaking him out. He squelched those feelings of desire, want and need a long time ago. He will never make the mistake of caring for a woman or loving a woman ever again. The one and only time he did, it cost him everything and altered the course of his life.

"I don't usually give a whole lot of thought to anything." He frowned. "The things I say? The things I do? I do them without a second thought. Without concern. And the girls surrounding me are usually game. No questions asked. And I was wrong ... thinking that same standard applied to you."

"You assumed I was easy." I forced it out like a tease, tamping down the quiver of unease.

 He cast a coy grin. "Isn't everyone?"

I don't know why I waited so long to read anything from this author, but clearly I'm a bit insane. I started with this book because the blurb caught my attention more than the others, but I wasn't lost with the secondary characters at all, so it was fine to read as a standalone.

A.L Jackson's writing was almost poetic in a way, with word after word sucking me into this story until I was trapped for the rest of Lyrik and Tamar's journey. And it wasn't an easy one, not with both of them having tough pasts that they had to work through even years later. But it was a beautiful one, getting to see them fighting the need they had for one another. Their minds may have been saying to stay away but their hearts took over and their chemistry exploded like fireworks in the sky.

I loved the story of these characters and really think any and all romance readers will love it too. A definite recommend from me!

Such a beautiful and intoxicating story! A.L. Jackson blew me away with her beautiful writing and her unique characters. Her writing is poetic and lyrical, once you’ve read this book you won’t be able to stop yourself from wanting more and more. Where Lightning Strikes is intense, emotional and sweet.

description

Lyrik and Tamar are such different characters. Lyrik is the lead guitarist, and is known to be a manwhore, but when you get to know him better, you see him for the broken man he really is. And Tamar is simply amazing! She is smart, sassy and funny!! When these two get together the push and pull between them is exhilarating. Their interactions are so entertaining. When they are together, it’s like they are on fire!!

“She was like a bundle of fireworks just waiting for a match. Now I was standing in the flames.”

Trust me this series is really great and if you haven't read it yet, check the first book is free!! This can read as a standalone but I think you should read the other books and meet Shea and Sebastian!!

This is one of those instances where the book gets better the further along you go. The problem is it takes way too long to get to the good stuff.

Tamar and Lyrik are a volatile, damaged pair. She’s a fiery bartender, living life on the run from a dangerous past. Lyrik is a hardened, womanizing lead guitarist of a popular rock band who is coping with his own private pain. Lyrik is determined to do whatever it takes to get in Tamar’s pants, while she is insistent on keeping her distance and guarding her heart.

The more Lyrik gets Tamar to open up to him, the more closed off he is about sharing his own secrets. It’s frustrating, and Lyrik’s “all you have to do is say no” coaxing gets very repetitive. I was three quarters of the way through the book, and I had no interest in the characters or their issues, and their chemistry felt lukewarm to me.

The last quarter of the book helps save the story as we finally learn Lyrik’s secret. It’s one I didn’t see coming, and I was glued to the pages as he tries to cope with the fallout from his shocking and excruciating past. While I really enjoyed the ending, ultimately this is a case of too little, too late.

I just expected more from the story than what I got. The up and down between the h and the H was great! Overall, the book had me feeling warm and fuzzies, with a bit of sadness. It was a really nice and sweet story. I am giving it only 3.5 stars because there was something missing for me and some part of it around 50-70% was a bit boring. I, also, felt like the overall plotline was a bit predictable.

In short:

Where Lightning Strikes is a beautifully written, heartbreakingly, real life story of love, suffering and forgiveness. The words flow off the pages like lyrical madness that sucked me in from the very beginning. As I stare at this screen and attempt to put all the feels into words, I don’t know that I will be able to do this book justice.

From the very beginning, my heart took up residence in my throat and stayed. My eyes were on the verge of leaking and the feels were off the charts. Feels that I never expected or dreamed would be in a book whose main characters were rock stars. But then we all have a past, and sometimes our past dictates our future…

Lyrik West is a bad-boy rock star. His tattooed-up body, his piercing dark eyes and the air of his body language portray the perfect picture. Bad Boy. Rock Star. In truth, he’s so much more than this.

Tamar King is hiding in plain sight. She lives in her own clouded hell and stays far from the limelight. Except she’s drawn to Lyrik.

“I hated being this girl. Fearful and scared of emotions I didn’t want to feel. But that’s how this boy made me. Shaky and confused and losing the grip of the carefully constructed walls I clung to.”
—Be still my heart. Accept it for what it is and breathe.

This resonated with me so much. How often have we been scared of our own emotions and feelings? How someone made us feel? This right here made me remember what it was like to fall head over heels in love. When I had no idea it was happening until it slapped me in the face. When all I wanted to do was let go and be. But it isn’t always that easy. We build walls not to keep others out, but to keep ourselves safe.

I fell asleep with Lyrik in my hand and woke up to dreams of beautiful music. I reached for my Kindle that was right beside me ready and waiting. I jumped right in and deciding adulting could wait just a few more minutes. I needed to finish the story. I needed to absorb myself in the angsty, insane, all consuming and brave love that was Lyrik and Tamar.

Don’t wait. This is an epic story for the ages!!! ~ Heather, 5 Lyrical stars

~~~
Whoa.
This book was addicting.
Intense.
Suuuper angsty.
I feel wrung out and hungover and yet, somehow, also on the biggest book high imaginable. Let’s see if I can work these feels into a review.
This was my first A.L. Jackson book. Yes, I know, it's right in the middle of a series, which is not always the best way to check out a new author, but I had no issues there. If anything, it made me hungry to read the books that came before this one—and I had no problem following this story. Or, I should say, fully immersing myself in it, because that's what happened. I didn't want to put this book down. I ached and buzzed with the same charged energy that Lyrik and Tamar experienced. I felt pulled into the story, fully invested, my heart feeling every bruise, every spark of hope, and all that crazy, messy love.
Lyrik and Tamar are both incredibly broken—pieces of themselves shattered, protective walls firmly in place to keep people away. Because of this, their relationship is a rollercoaster ride, a constant push/pull. It's sexy and intense and fierce. It's incredibly (and deliciously) angsty as they work through their own issues to try and find room for each other in their lives, and the courage to love without fear ruling their hearts. It’s brilliantly written in a way that allowed me to lose myself in the drama without ever becoming frustrated with it. I never skipped over parts that felt over-wrought—I was simply hooked on every word of this story, and as my Kindle counted down the percentage until complete, I started to panic like I maybe wasn't ready to say goodbye yet. I wasn’t. Lord, I loved Lyrik and Tamar.
Where Lightning Strikes is one of those books that will leave you satisfied (I mean, in a hung over way); the story big and twisty and jammed with emotions, all wrapped in the happiest, sweetest ending, which serves as a balm for the heart after the journey it just took. I loved every moment of this book. I'm completely hooked. ~ Shelly, 5 Sing My Soul stars
As if every element in the air is combustible. Explosive. ”
An intoxicating spellbinding read that will electrify and sing to your soul!!! A.L. Jackson will consume readers with her lyrical and poetic prose as she beautifully intertwines and weaves an intense, raw, emotional, heartbreaking and palpable love story.
 photo fbf90d93f205d2a3ff9a96bbccaeb0_zpscph9o9cf.gif “Loving someone was like volunteering for heartache and sorrow and a lifetime of bullshit. But I wanted one. I wanted her. Tamar King. We had a love/ hate relationship. I loved messing with her and she loved to hate me for it.”
#WhereTheLightningStrike
Ms. Jackson definitely struck a way to my heart, mind, and soul as she paints a gorgeous literary tale of love that speaks volumes. Words were not just ordinary words written on a page. This story had words that weren’t meant to be read, experienced, and felt. Through the eyes of her characters, readers are enveloped with a wide array of raw emotions that has the power of leaving you naked to the elements. Tears will be shed. Frustration is imminent. Heart will be torn. And yet, Ms. Jackson has a way to heal the shatter pieces of your heart with her poetic prose.
 photo fbf90d93f205d2a3ff9a96bbccaeb0_zpscph9o9cf.gif “I knew better than acting like a naïve school girl. He would come like a plunderer, swooping in and tearing everything in his path to shreds, setting the world on fire. With zero regret. Zero concern for the mayhem he caused. Zero remorse for his sins. He reveled in them. Like I said. Cruel”
Two broken souls. Two paths. Two strangers. And one electrifying collision that will strike an explosion of beauty, hope, forgiveness, and love. The story of Lyrik West and Tamar King is a complex push/pull kind of relationship and yet their connection is like a meteor shower waiting to explode and shower readers with every light.
 photo fbf90d93f205d2a3ff9a96bbccaeb0_zpscph9o9cf.gif “I didn’t mean to fall in love with Lyrik West. I’d run from it. Fought it. All the while he’d been the one to fight for me.”
These characters. This author. This story. This love. It is like lightning. When it hits you, you feel it coursing deep within your veins, pulsating throughout your entire body and when it leaves you, you're never the same again. And how could you ever be the same when you feel the beauty in the fragile moments of Lyrik and Tamar. Feel the trickling of emotions. Hear the sounds of your heart beating like the roar of thunder knowing that once you get struck by lightning, you are never the same again. And that is how I felt when I was reading Where Lightning Strikes by A.L. Jackson. So if you are ready to be showered with beauty, depth, hope, absolution, and love then I urge you to get struck by Lyrik West and Tamar King.
5 brilliant and electric stars !!!
Lightning:
noun
1.
a brilliant electric spark discharge in the atmosphere, occurring within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground.
That's how I felt reading this book. Electric sparks flying everywhere between Lyrik and Tamar. The feelings were so vivid and intense. You'll feel light and airy one moment reading as these two fall in love. Then you'll be gutted and your heart will be bleeding due to the forces they're trying to fight the inevitable. My heart bottomed out and went BOOM countless times. I loved this sexy, beautiful story !
Tamar
" I sought safety from the storm in the walls I built up around myself. Behind the facade of this hardened exterior - tattoos and makeup and dyed hair - that had become my home. No longer were they just a mask. They had become me. "
She was hard and soft. Tattooed and clean. Vixen and angel. Dirty and pure.
Lyrik
" He stood out like a fiery bolt of electricity. A streak of light and a blanket of dark. So destructive and compelling it was impossible to look away, the boy poised to strike and set you aflame. "
Loneliness was a bitch. But loneliness was safe. And there was nothing safe about Lyrik West.
When these two characters collide it was thrilling and you can literally feel the air trembling and the ground shaking. Like a lightning strike. Gahhhhh !!!! Tamar was very guarded and was determined to never be vulnerable again. Lyrik was the typical rock star man whore who vowed never to love again.
Piece by piece their walls start breaking down and it was such an emotional and exhilarating journey. The sexy pushes and sweet pulls and the full steam ahead yes's and the halting hell no's....
I couldn't wait for them to spontaneously combust together !!!! You will get to know them in books one and two of this series. But in this book you will fall head over heels in love with them both individually and then together. Especially the way Blue never expects for more than he is willing to give to her. Then Lyrik fighting his want to give her it all. But his own personal hell keeps him trapped.
" If my heart was mine to give, I'd give it to you. "
" You might have given up on yourselves. Just don't give up on each other.
"You sing my soul."
I have loved every book in this series and I cannot wait for more. Another amazing 5 star read ! I love when my heart goes BOOM! and I can't wait to go Through The Storm with the next novel !
"Do you know what it feels like right before lightning strikes? How you can feel the current running through your veins?
Tamar King has been in hiding for the past four years. Finally at a point where she's comfortable in her new life,she starts to let her guard down a little. Swearing off men entirely,she HATES her attraction to bad boy rock star Lyrik West. Knowing that he's nothing but trouble,Tamar fights their attraction at all costs until one day they both decide to just give in an surrender. That undercurrent that's been circling around them and making their connection feel electric has finally run it's course.
"Give me one night. Show me who you are. Show me that anger. Show me why. Fight it out with me and that hot little body".
Lyrik West life hasn't been an easy one for six years and counting. Does he have an amazing careeer,adoring fans and women at his beck and call 24/7? Yes. But inside his mind is a turmoil that's been brewing and made him shut off his emotions to giving and receiving love. Being around the hot redhead evoked a foreign feeling inside of him that makes him question everything he's been doing for last six years. Will he give in to the feelings and finally free his past or will he mess up the best thing that's ever happened to him in a long time?
"If my heart was mine to give, I'd give it to you. "
Even though this was my first read in this series, I understood everything and followed along smoothly. This author has a way of writing so poetically that the story flowed effortlessly. I really enjoyed Lyrik and Tamar as a couple and their connection was HAWT! They both had scars from their past and they fought like hell not to give into each other but their surrender was what made their journey so bittersweet. They understood each other and they both found they they really were better together as one. If you haven't read the previous books in the series,just jump right in and go for it.
Whew! That was close. I was really worried that Lyrik would edge Sebastian out as my favorite Sunder rocker. Although I enjoyed this book a lot, Baz is still my fave. Where Lightning Strikes is a bit darker than the first two books in the series, but no less enjoyable.
Here's the breakdown: Lyrik and Tamar have been dancing around each other since the Sunder band members took up residence in Savannah. They're both wounded souls who refuse to get attached, so they never pursued a relationship. Luckily, they give in to the attraction on a temporary basis. Can their wounded souls heal each other. Will they find true love in the midst of all the heartache?
What I loved: Both characters have a level of emotional drama and unexpected backstory that really moved me. I was shocked and amazed, but it only served to endear me to them even more.
The writing is still superb! It's romantic, fluffy, and worked for me.
The connection to the previous story. We get more backstory on both Lyrik and Baz. The story is standalone, but there's also some cohesion with the earlier books in the series. I love when that happens!
I did have a small issue. Tamar repeatedly refers to Lyrik as a "boy". Unfortunately, badass rocker with a tragic past and "boy" just didn't work for me. Other than that, I loved it!
Overall, a very great read/listen. I highly recommend the book and audible version. The narration is superb!
Ooookaaaayy!! This was amazing.
My favorite of the series. I was always picking up the hints from the previous books that Tamar and Lyrik would have their moment. What a fucking moment it was. More than a moment. More than forever. If there is any two beings that are meant to be one in this world, it is Tamar And Lyrik. She felt his pull before they ever even met. Before she even knew who he was. The songs of his soul called her name. Simply fate that they would find each other. Written long before they were even born. Soulmates.. period.
Hauntingly beautiful story. Amazing writing. Wonderful deep symbolism. I love A.J. Jackson's writing.
I definitely identified with this story on many levels. Two broken beings floating through life just needing the other to ignite the life inside themselves again. What a powerful ignition it was.
Ok so last review I wrote for the first book of the series, I said where is my Sebastian Stone?? I take that back. Where's my Lyrik West!? He's everything! He made this story. He was always my fave of the group. Honestly I want this series to keep going with all the stories of the rest of the men in the band. Ash, Z, and even little bro Austin Stone. You can't not fall in love with these characters and series peeps. Check it out!!
Quante volte abbiamo paura delle nostre emozioni e dei nostri sentimenti? Quante volte non abbiamo idea di ciò che sta accadendo, fin quando non succede? Questa storia mi ha fatto ricordare cosa significa essere perdutamente innamorati. Quando tutto ciò che vuoi è lasciarti andare alle emozioni. Ma non è tutto sempre facile. Molte volte costruiamo muri intorno a noi, non per escludere gli altri, ma per mantenere al sicuro il nostro cuore. "Come un fulmine a ciel sereno" è una storia intensa di un amore che nasce come un fulmine, brucia l’anima come un fuoco ed entra nel cuore con tutte le emozioni come una tempesta violenta. Come un bacio che ruba le emozioni, il romanzo ruba le sensazioni. Dopo poche pagine sono stata travolta da questa storia furiosa come il vento, che mi ha affascinato e consumato. Tamar King si nasconde. Vive nel suo inferno nebuloso e si tiene lontana dalle luci della ribalta. E' una donna intelligente e dalla lingua impertinente, dai capelli rossi fiammanti come il fuoco e un corpo coperto da tatuaggi. Lavora nel bar dello zio a Savannah, una cittadina dello Stato della Georgia negli Stati Uniti d’America. È arrivata a Savannah per sfuggire ad un passato doloroso e devastante e ha giurato a se stessa di chiudere definitivamente con il sesso maschile. Tutto questo fino a quando Lyrik West non entra nel suo mondo controllato, lasciando la sua impronta. Lyrik è il primo chitarrista della band dei Sunder. Il suo corpo tatuato, i suoi penetranti occhi scuri e il linguaggio del suo corpo ritraggono il quadro perfetto del cattivo ragazzo. I suoi tatuaggi composti da parole e disegni, rivelano e raccontano il suo passato doloroso più delle parole dette a voce. Donne senza volto e senza nome entrano ed escono dal suo letto per soddisfare i suoi bisogni carnali. Ma a lui non è mai importato di loro. Tranne che di Tamar. Quando una sera entra nel bar di Tamar, i suoi occhi vengono catturati da quella provocante sirena dai capelli rossi che entra fin da subito nella sua mente. Lyrik e Tamar bruciano come fiamme ardenti, scatenando un’esplosione di scintille. Lei lo odia perché le fa provare emozioni assopite, ma in sua presenza il suo corpo la tradisce e si rianima, sentendosi vivo dopo tanto tempo. Entrambi combattono contro l’attrazione ardente, si insultano e si odiano, mascherando il desiderio ardente che hanno l’uno dell’altra. Lyrik e Tamar si rincorrono e giocano come cane e gatto ma arriva il momento in cui si scottano e dovranno porre fine a tutto questo dolore che alimenta altro dolore. Lyrik consuma Tamar nell'anima e nel corpo. Tamar è affascinata da quell’uomo bello e complesso, lui è un mistero che lei vuole risolvere a tutti i costi. La tentazione diventa troppo difficile da resistere finché alla fine cedono alla passione.
description
Lyrik e Tamar sono spiriti affini, anime perse che hanno rinunciato da tempo alla speranza e alle emozioni. Il loro passato ritorna a tormentare il presente minacciando il futuro. Questi due personaggi mi hanno rubato il cuore! Sono due anime legate da un passato doloroso. Ognuno possiede le chiavi per aprire il cuore dell’altro e distruggere i muri che hanno eretto intorno a loro. Bacio dopo bacio, parola dopo parola, la parete che hanno eretto comincia a sgretolarsi e a diventare sempre più sottile. Tamar è spaventata e confusa; Lyrik cerca di proteggere il suo cuore dalla ragazza che si trova ad un passo dall'entrare. I loro cuori cominciano a scongelarli, le emozioni ad emergere. Lyrik guarisce Tamar proteggendola e aiutandola a liberare le catene del passato. "Come un fulmine a ciel sereno" non è la storia di una rockstar ma di un uomo che cerca di trovare la sua luce. Il romanzo scaturisce tante emozioni quali rabbia, felicità e tristezza e soprattutto speranza. Ogni parola sembra poetica, potente e commovente. E' scritto brillantemente in un modo che mi ha permesso di perdermi nel dramma senza mai sentirmi insoddisfatta. Una storia emozionante di amore, sofferenza e perdono che ci fa salire sulle montagne russe in un turbinio di emozioni. Fin dall'inizio mi sono sentita attratta dalla storia, completamente investita dalle emozioni. Il mio cuore ha sentito ogni timore, ogni dolore, ogni scintilla di speranza e tutto quell'amore profondo che Tamar e Lyrik desiderano. Assolutamente consigliata!!
Passione e tormento, un duo vincente!
Sai cosa si prova poco prima che il fulmine colpisca?
Avevo inserito questo romanzo nei futuri acquisti quando, una mattina, suona il citofono. Chi è? Il corriere. Strano, non ho ordinato niente... Forse qualche lettrice mi ha inviato i romanzi da autografare. Apro il pacchetto e... tadà! Alice, thank you so much, love you ♥
E così, sono tornata da A.L. Jackson . . . e wow‼ Questa autrice è una garanzia, la sua abilità di raccontare passione e angoscia è straordinaria. Mi ero già innamorata della sua scrittura con Take This Regret , e il mio amore è stato riconfermato con questa nuova, splendida lettura.
 Mi agganciò il mento con due dita e mi obbligò a guardarlo attraverso i confini tetri della stanza chiusa. «Credi che non veda, Red. Che mi guardi. Che mi vuoi. Solo perché ti rifiuti di dirlo, non significa che non sia vero».
Lyric West è un uomo tenebroso, virile, eccitante oltre ogni limite. È un personaggio che ti toglie il fiato. È un predatore che osserva e punta la sua preda, calcola bene i tempi dell'assalto e quando è su di te non hai più scampo.
E questo Tamar lo sa bene. Ma non può smettere di desiderarlo, di gravitargli intorno. L'oscurità che ammanta Lyric è come un magnete, e lei vuole addentrarsi in essa.
Per non sentirsi più così vuota.
Per non essere più così sola.
 «Ero così sola. Non soltanto isolata, Lyric. Ma sola. Vuota. Senza nessuno che mi capisse. E poi c'eri tu... questo bellissimo, terrificante uomo che si faceva strada nella mia vita. Pretendendo che gli mostrassi chi ero realmente e non quella che tutti vedevano. Ora sono qui, a pregarlo di lasciarmi entrare nella sua. Di lasciarmi vedere».
 Le presi le mani con cui si teneva forte al mio stomaco. «Non puoi andare lì, Blue».
Ho amato molto Lyric. È una persona complessa, con un segreto che brami di scoprire pagina dopo pagina. Cos'è che lo trattiene? Perché non può lasciare che Tamar gli entri sotto la pelle?
A cosa deve quel suo potentissimo senso di lealtà?
A chi l'ha promessa?
 «Finirà, Red. Lo sappiamo entrambi. Dimmi che ti sta bene. Altrimenti, devi alzarti e andartene, perché non sono il tipo che se ne sta qui a rifilarti bugie. Penso che ormai tu lo sappia».
Due mesi.
Questo è tutto ciò che Lyric è disposto a concederle.
Per godere di lei.
Per guarirla dal terribile peso che porta con sé.
Due mesi per farlo innamorare di lei.
Ma lui non può amarla.
«Se il mio cuore mi appartenesse, lo darei a te».
L'amore, però, non ti chiede mai il permesso. Ti travolge e ti lascia senza niente. Ti spinge a dire cose che feriscono troppo. Ti porta al limite e ti obbliga a gettarti nel vuoto.
Ti fa tirare indietro.
 «Ti amo, Lyric West. E quando uscirò da quella porta, ti prometto che farà male». Mi fissò. «Ma tu ne vali la pena».
Standing ovation per Amy, che con questa meraviglia entra nella mia Top Autori. Il suo stile è unico, ti arriva dritto all'anima. Where Lightning Strikes è un romanzo sorprendente, che ti insegna a essere coraggioso. La tensione sessuale che emanano i due protagonisti è esplosiva, l'angst è alle stelle e vi farà trattenere il respiro.
Ero propensa per le cinque stelline, poi, alla fine, è arrivato il capitolo sul passato di Lyric.
OH. MIO. DIO.
È bastato questo a farmi dare mezza stella in più.
Lo dico? Lo confesso? Okay. A lettura conclusa, avrei preferito fosse un second chance romance. Ecco, l'ho detto! And I regret nothing :P
Where Lightning Strikes by AL Jackson
4.5 stars!!
“Sometimes fear shouts so loudly it drowns out everything else.”
Once again AL Jackson totally captivated me with her poetical and lyrical prose and totally submersed me into Lyrik and Tamar’s story. A story of two broken people that had the potential to heal one and another. A gravitational pull, side glances and a love to hate relationship all encapsulated into a story of putting the past to rest and living for the now. These two have a lot of pain and a lot of guilt but in doing so have isolated themselves, especially their hearts, but sometimes, just sometimes those broken hearts can feel out “the one.” Now it was just up to the two stubbornest people in the world to realise that.
“You might have given up on yourselves. Just don’t give up on each other.”
Lyrik was the guitarist in “Sunder.” He had the reputation of being a manwhore and usually ending up with at least a couple of women at the end of the night. But this was all a front and from the little glimmers into Lyrik that we gleaned from Baz’s story I was sure that there was a hell of a lot more to this dark, brooding man and AL Jackson did not let me down. I knew he carried a lot of pain and I had my theories and they were more or less right but the way that AL Jackson slowly lets you into the man behind the guitar you cannot help but take this man into your heart. His back story is heart breaking, he made his mistakes and now he was suffering the consequences but he has grown up somewhat and sometimes our past actions need to positively affect our future paths, not keep them stagnant and festering. He needed to move on, he needed to let go...would Tamar be the one to finally break through?
“…because we don’t need that kind of loyalty. Only thing you’re really loyal to is your misery.”
Tamar is Shea’s best friend and works behind the bar that the Sunder lads have come to frequent on a regular basis. The barbs and flirting between Lyrik and Tamar have been building for a year but Tamar is the ice queen and is certainly not for thawing. Tamar’s past will have you in tears and I always knew that she was hiding from something, but nothing could have prepared me for the truth. This woman has walls as tall as skyscrapers and it would take a miracle to break through the barriers that she has erected in fear. She wanted to be unknown, she wanted to hide but she was getting more and more frustrated with Lyrik, because the more she tried to hide the more he saw and this scared her, it actually terrified her. The more he saw, the more she felt and felt she was being betrayed by heart, but as I said above, sometimes the heart knows, it just takes the mind a little time to catch up.
“I was there. Because of a boy. A boy who reminded me I was brave.”
AL Jackson perfectly captured every emotion in this roller coaster of a ride. I knew their story would be far from easy but what these two had been through and find themselves going through really pulled at every heartstring. These two deserved each other, but their guilt and fears keep them from taking that leap of faith until they can’t and here is where this story really kicks off. To see the changes in these two was intense and beautiful to read, you could see little splinters of armour being chipped away with every conversation, with every kiss, with every touch…until they got scared and would pull back once again. That back and forth that can be so agonising to read about, felt so right as these two battled their feelings and their insecurities. It was a hell of a journey but it was one that needed to be taken to iron out their pasts so they could begin to think of a future. While I was put through the ringer with them I appreciated every word, every emotion.
“I love you, Lyrik West. And when I walk out that door, I promise you, it’s going to hurt.”
“But you are worth all the pain.”
As usual with an AL Jackson read, I lived and breathed and this story and while those up and downs left me feeling unsure and pained I could see the light at the end of the tunnel and what a light AL Jackson left us with. A perfect ending to an intense, emotional read. A fantastic story once again and I cannot wait for the other band members to get their turn. There is a lot of mileage with these “Sunder” men.
“I hear you.”
“You sing my soul.”
I liked this couple so much more than the first one, but still, there was something that kept me from enjoying the book. It took me a while to finish it but here I am, ready to give the next book in the series a chance.
"Do you know what it feels like right before lightning strikes?"
We met Tamar and Lyrik in A Stone in the Sea. This book is their story. The moment Tamar met Lyrik she started acting differently. In the previous books we got to see Tamar as a tough girl who didn't need anything or anyone, especially from guys. Lyrik had been trying to get with her for about a year but was unsuccessful. In the last couple of years Tamar has build a wall around her and nobody has been able to break down those walls.
"He stood out like a fiery bold of electricity. A streak of light and a blanket of dark. So destructive and compelling it was impossible to look away, the boy posed to strike and set you aflame."
However Tamar is intrigued by Lyrik but knows he his bad news. But like many girls there is a time where you can't continue to resist the bad boy. The first quarter of the book there was a lot of hostility between the two. Tamar kept pushing him but at the same time she is jealous and can't stop thinking about him. The moment the two come together is both heartbreaking and beautiful. Both are haunted by their pasts and are struggling to move on from it.
"Loving someone was like volunteering for heartache and sorrow and a lifetime of bullshit."
Lyrik broke my heart a couple of times in this book. He said and did things that were difficult to read. My heart went out to Tamar during these scenes. It was obvious something happened to him, he was still stuck in the past and couldn't move on. He mentioned a couple of times that his heart wasn't his to give. I was really curious what happened to him. We get a couple of small peeks when he is talking to Zee, Ash and Baz, but nothing major. We finally see what happened in one flashback. I did not see it coming. I really felt bad for him and finally understood his behavior. There were also a couple of times he was the perfect guy who was able to bring Tamar out of lonely world she was stuck in. They still have to face their pasts if they want to move on...
"You are everything I never expected. Never anticipated. Everything I never knew I'd need."
I adored the epilogue!! I also loved being reunited with the gang. I really missed Baz, Shea and Kallie. The same goes for Zee and Ash. Ash had me cracking up so many times in this book. He is such an outgoing guy. Zee is the more responsible one. I can't wait to read their stories. Super excited that we get Austin's story first though. I wonder what he has been up to since the last time we saw him.
"That girl was a bundle of fireworks, and I was certain we'd go boom."
AL Jackson did an amazing job with this book. It is very poetic and I adore her writing. She is one of the few authors whose books I automatically one-click. I have read all her books and will continue to do so in the future.
"Dark and light. Corrupt and pure."
"Wild, wicked Red and sweet, beautiful Blue."
"Temptation. That's what you are. An angel wrapped up in a demon's body. Heaven and hell. A gift and my greatest demise."
Where Lightning Strikes
by A.L. Jackson
Warning if you suffer from a heart condition. Be forewarned that you may have heart palpitations! Due to the excessive heart-clenching ride that you are about to experience!
Also, you should at times carry a box of tissues with you! Due to excessive crying that will accrue during this book!
“Where Lightning Strikes” is a storm that engulfs you in every, a ripple of its being!
With so many variables, such as hurt, pain, brokenness, and sheer willpower. Then Storm was epic!! With its gust that engulfed you with every syllable, every sorrowful word, every breath! I seemed to melt into the story. Then was brought back with that poetic nature, that spell! Which can only be described as A.L. Jackson!
I’ve often described A.L. Jackson as perfection, brilliant, and one of the greatest writers of our times.
But somehow she does! She now gives us “Where Lightning Strikes” which is her new masterpiece in itself. Just a phenomenal book! She brought us Awww “Lyrik” he's a torn broken man. With the soul of an angle.
But fuck he drove me insane!!! Half the time I want to jump him. The other you want to beat the crap out of him.
Then there is “Tamar” AKA "RED" You spitfire bombshell! That has a hell of a past. But when she and “Lyrik” become fire and ice! Just like the perfect storm.
Emotions I felt While reading “Where Lightning Strikes”
Tears more Tears! Sex machine and oh now you're making me laugh! Can you just pull my heart out of my chest? Then oh fuck NO NO!!!!
For the love of ever-loving, GOD Thank you for that spectacular ending. Even If I thought I was about to die A.L. Jackson!!
The perfect companion to the Bleeding Star series.
Please tell me that Ashes book is coming soon!
5 Where Lighting Strikes Stars
Ok I am putting it out there… The first 2 books in the series were just ok for me. But this book hot damn! I loved it. I mean yes! Finally we get the band/brothers feel, and friends.
I think that’s what I was waiting for with the other two books. We get a little bit of it but not like this book this book they were an integrate part of the story. And I loveeeed that.
We get Tamar’s pain and anguish right away but we also know there is something going on with Lyric we just don’t know what.. And boy when we do it will break your heart. This book has so many struggles. So much pain they both have to overcome but they can do it together and heal together. Normally I am not big on the drama but this had it but it wasn't all there ways.
We still get the past characters and all that but it just felt like a family and I think that’s what I was missing in the other books so yeah I lovedddd this book. I can’t wait to see what A.L. Jackson does with the rest of this series.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
4 stars
This is the third book in the Bleeding Stars series, and OMG, my poor heart!!! This is a chemistry-filled, angsty (yet swoony) love story between two incredibly damaged people - both of them hiding their true selves, and the source of all of their pain - but they find something amazing together. It’s heartbreaking and raw, but wow, it’s a beautiful story.
Tamar King has been through hell. She’s on the run from her real life and for four years she has been hiding out in Savannah, slinging drinks in Charlie’s bar, concealing her true identity. To protect herself, she has erected walls, trying her best to keep people at arm’s length, and has created a mask that is not the real her, but it’s how she keeps herself together. But one broody, bad boy rocker is threatening to tear all of that to shreds.
Lyrik West is the lead guitarist for rock band, Sunder. From the moment he and Tamar laid eyes on each other there has been a simmering chemistry between them, but Lyrik is just as damaged as Tamar is. He keeps his wounds private but they cut deep, and he is bitter, cold and closed off because of it. But there’s something about Tamar that calls to him, and he can’t help but push her.
“Loving someone was like volunteering for heartache and sorrow and a lifetime of bullshit. But I wanted one. I wanted her. Tamar King. We had a love/ hate relationship. I loved messing with her and she loved to hate me for it.”
The sexual tension between Lyrik and Tamar is fantastic. The antagonism between them sizzles with more, and you can feel how much they want each other. Lyrik initially handles the situation badly (more about that later), so they take a while to get on the same page, but once they do, everything changes.
“Give me one night. Show me who you are. Show me that anger. Show me why. Fight it out with me and that hot little body”.
I loved the way this relationship develops. Absolutely loved it! Lyrik is only in town for two months, so they promise each other sex and only sex until he has to leave. But from their very first night together their plans fall completely apart. They see so much more in each other than they ever imagined, and it changes the dynamic between them incredibly! And as they continue spending time together, the depth of their connection and the intensity of the emotion that grows between becomes unstoppable, and wow, it’s beautifully written!
“You are everything I never expected. Never anticipated. Everything I never knew I’d need.”
“I can’t stop thinking that maybe you might need me just as bad as I need you.”
But underneath the passionate emotion that they find together, both are still suffering with the torment of their pasts. There is pain and vulnerability, and some push and pull, and the book gets quite angsty as they sort through their feelings and try to find their way forward. It’s definitely not an easy read, and my heart was torn out more than once, but I couldn’t put it down.
“If my heart was mine to give, I'd give it to you.”
AL Jackson has given us a beautifully written book that is full of raw emotion, and an amazing relationship, but as much as I loved it, I struggled with some of Lyrik’s assholish behaviour. Because W.T.F??? .
When we FINALLY got his backstory my heart shattered for him. I read with tears streaming down my face and finally realised why he was the way he was, and I got it. I so totally got it. I still think he treated Tamar badly and there was no need for him to behave the way he did, but I could understand his pain, and oh God, it hurt!
And that’s after we’ve already read Tamar’s backstory which is about as bad as it gets. What she went through was horrific, and I admired her strength for allowing Lyrik to get close to her, and the way he is there for her, and the way she blossoms for him was absolutely gorgeous!
“I didn’t mean to fall in love with Lyrik West. I’d run from it. Fought it. All the while he’d been the one to fight for me.”
But all of that suffering leads in to a wonderful ending (with a gorgeous epilogue) and I finished this book with a happy heart and a huge smile on my face.
“You sing my soul”
So yes, I have mixed feelings about this one. I wanted to love Lyrik more than I did, but he just pissed me off too much, and though I could appreciate his relationship with Tamar, that feeling wasn’t there for me. But having said that, I loved the story, loved the way Jackson wrote the relationship, and the character growth of both Tamar and Lyrik made this story really special.
4 stars.
Kindred Spirits are two people that make a special connection by sharing a bond that has joined them by the means of an experience that has drawn them together on a higher level of consciousness. This connection can be from the same experience at the same time or two separate experiences similar in nature. - urbandictionary.com
This is how I think of Lyrik & Tamar. Individually they have been through experiences that have shaped their behavior, thoughts, decisions and lives. It is this that seems to draw them together in a way neither of them can explain, a law of attraction if you like.
Lyrik has this dark, tormented aura around him that makes Tamar want to know more about him. He is also a cocky, arrogant bastard who completely pisses her off. As much as she tries to dig for more, he will only leave his door slightly ajar, just enough to slip in briefly until he decides that door will be closed and bolted. He made a promise to himself many years ago that he intends to keep because it is the only good thing he feels he has ever done in his life. He has imposed a life sentence on himself that he feels he will never be free of.
Tamar is a woman on the run. Running from her past and from fear of what could be if she is found. However, when she is with Lyrik if feels like she is running on a treadmill. Pouring energy and time into him but getting nowhere. Lyrik senses that Tamar is hiding something dark behind her beautiful blue eyes and even though he knows he should stay away he just can't stop this irresistible pull he feels when he is around her. She confuses him, making him feel things he hasn't done in years.
'Because she was the first real thing I'd felt in years. The first person to chip away at all that hate. The first to make me want to do more. Be more. It wouldn't last.'
Any time they spend together it's like everything they are feeling is amplified, their senses are heightened, words spill out that are not meant too and secrets are confessed. What they share is so incredible that it changes them both. They are schooling each other without realizing it. Showing each other the way to forgiveness, how to be brave and breathing life back into their souls.
This was a beautiful story to read, the words just wrapped around me and I think I may have highlighted half of the book because I just could not go past them. I re-read so much of this story because the words were so wonderful that I wanted to read them again straight away. I shed a lot of tears for Lyrik and Tamar and enjoyed every moment that I spent with them. Just beautiful.
Wow, so good.
Where Lightning Strikes is the third book of the Bleeding Stars series. Oh lord, this thing has been amazing! I have completely devoured book 2 and 3 AND I can't wait for book 4! I don't know what it is about this series or author, but the feels man. So many freaking feelings. I wasn't prepared at all.
In it, you will meet Lyrik and Tamar. Interesting names for interesting people. Tamar is a spunky bartender who is currently escaping from a painful past. Then there's Lyrik who is the lead guitarist of Sunder. He also happens to be cocky AF but who wouldn't?
These two had insta-chemistry and I was all for it. However, I was worried about both of their pasts and how things would be handled if it caught up with them. Ya know? Of course, I didn't have much time to ponder about it because before I could even blink - it was there. Yet, it went rather smoothly. They were there for each other and helped heal one another.
It was beautiful and I enjoyed every second of it. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!
