Maya Banks is the #1 New York Times, #1 USA Today and international bestselling author of over 50 novels. A wife and mother of three, she lives in Texas.
I liked this sweet and easy to read stories. They was a little over the top sweet at moments so that's why it's 4 stars, but they are solid.
The writing style is easygoing and to the point and there is a good amount of dialogues so it was a joyful read.
The characters are well described and there is lots of feelings in these stories.
This is the kind of stories that has a sort of fairytale quality about them but it's added some hot scenes so it's a grown up fairytale. If you like that sort of fairytale this is all for you.....
I ordered some used books from an online book store, and each other came with a free download from a set list. This was one of my free downloads. It is a combination of 2 books, previously published Harlequins, combined into one cover. These are contemporary romances with a pregnancy theme which I wouldn't have gone within a thousand miles of had I known. I just saw that some Banks were on the free list, and I went with a known author. I loved Devon and Ashley's story (book 1 - 4 stars), but didn't care much for Cam and Pippa's story (book 2 - 2 stars). 3 star average. Good secondary characters kept either from being bad and the emotional angst, just the right amount, bumped up the first of the two.
Heroine was a little dippy. Hero was clueless for most of the novel, but he figured it out in the end. There wasn't any real malice any of these characters- just immaturity.
But the second story? Whooooo boy. It's bad. Really bad.
First, content warning for baby loss. Cam watches his wife and infant son die in a car accident. Not sure how it happened because I was skimming at that point.
Why was I skimming? Oh well, it's clear Ms. Banks has never experienced baby loss. Or the grief that comes with it. Multiple times Cam was told to "get over it and start living". Multiple times did Pippa and the rest of his friends say how he needed to move on.
Fuck. That.
You don't move on from the loss of your wife and child. Ever. It's always there. Cam has several fears related to this, and should he seek some therapy for them, probably, but those fears will always be there. He also states how he is afraid this new baby will replace his lost son. Again, a VALID THOUGHT for someone who has lost a child. Yet again, he's brushed off and told that won't happen.
K, that's never helpful to hear though.
So I quit reading. Skimmed to the end because I'm a glutton for punishment. There's no mention of how Cam is doing with a new baby in the epilogue, no mention of being a little brother to Colton, nothing. Just hey what do we name this baby? Oh okay cool.
Fuck this shit. I'm happy Banks never experienced this or anything like it. But if she's going to write about it, she needs to do way more research.
The other books I read from Maya are hotter as this one, going much further in the bedroom department. But this is a nice and hot read. Getting you two books in one. Two books about two friends, from both sides, female and male. Two different books.
In the first one I could kick the men in the story, her father and her husband. Come on.
Undeniable: Tempted by Her Innocent Kiss/Undone by Her Tender Touch
Two wonderful stories. Ashley and Devon had a lot of people interfering with their love life, but in the end found everlasting love. Cam loved once and lost his family, Pippa loved him and had to break down the walls of his heart to make him see that they could have a wonderful life together with their son.
The first: this story was thrilling. If I read this anymore, I will be able to recite the entire book. I love getting lost in a story. The second: just as exciting but darker.
This book is a combination of 2 stories in one book with common characters shared in both stories. The first story is about Devon and Ashley. Ashley is the boss's daughter that Devon is required to marry as part of a business deal. I give this story 5-stars because of its emotional intensity. The second story about Ashley's friend Pippa and Devon's friend Cameron lacks the emotional intensity of the first story. In fact, a good deal of the story is rather sterile because their emotions toward each other are those of anger or avoidance. This story seemed to drag much of the time, so I give it 3-stars. Averaged together, the entire book of "Undeniable" is 4-stars.
Beklentilerimi asla karsilamadi.
