Stolen from ASGARD, exiled from HEVEN, and robbed of SERA, her greatest companion – ANGELA plunges into the depths of blackest HEL to save her friend...and once there, the lost princess of Asgard will carve out a realm of her very own. All hail ANGELA, THE NEW QUEEN OF HEL!
Angela has gone to Hel to save her beloved companion Sera.
Yeah I have just about no idea what's happening. First the story is in the present or future with Angela and Sera running Hel. Then it appears the story goes into the past where something happens to Angela and I guess she's seeing the past. Then the story heads back to the future past...it's easy to see that I'm lost at least. It also appears companion was the playing it cool term for Angela and Sera because the kisses they share aren't the type someone gives their friend.
I haven't caught up on Angela: Asgard's Assassin so I don't know all the details of what's going on here, but there's enough information given to understand and enjoy this issue. The flashbacks are helpful (and cute). I like watching Sera and Angela interact, and it's good to see Angela have emotion for something/someone when she's usually so stoic. I like that Sera's narrating, because she's much more amusing than Angela.
Then a thing happens at the end that makes me really want to read the next issue.
There are a couple of artists who worked on this issue. Both are good, but one is closer to traditional comic book style art, and the other looks like it's been painted.
I liked the story, and am curious to see where it goes, but I'm not sure I'll follow it. Why? It's been probably two decades since I've read a single comic, and now I remember why: they're too short! If this is ever collected in an omnibus, I will read it (and, with a more complete arc, probably up the number of stars).
I haven't read Angela: Asgard's Assassin so some of the references are confusing. However, this comic's story holds on its own just fine! It's established that Angela is a fierce warrior who has fallen in love with an angel named Sera. Unfortunately, Sera is slain in battle and it's up to Angela to rescue her from Hel's clutches. While this one sets up the story & doesn't reveal too much, I'm intrigued enough to keep going. I love Angela & Sera's relationship, it's refreshing to see LGBTQ in comics, and Sera's snarky narration is fun. I'll be checking out the next one!
A comic book being narrated by a trans woman of color who is in love with a warrior queen in BOMB ASS armor! MORE OF THIS PLEASE! Angela and Sera give me life!
Here's to hoping they bring in Gamora at some point and the 3 of them have crazy amazing and sexy adventures!
