I regularly stumble across a self-published author with a lot of potential, but who needs more instruction in the basics of writing, and Ms. O'Leary definitely falls into this category. While I imagine a good series of editors critiquing her work would have coaxed her to better her writing while also teaching her some rules of the romance genre, by putting out her own books she's lacked this mentoring and it shows.

The major flaw is one of characterization, or lack thereof. The hero is a SEAL, but aside from the most shallow description of his teammates, I'm not convinced that the author has read a single book or spoken to any member of the military to research precisely what type of training or missions this branch of the service must undergo. The heroine is an absolute Mary Sue, with no apparent flaws except her poor self-esteem (only vaguely explained) and her naïveté. Through the entire book, I kept wondering why these two people were attracted to each other.

Which brings me to perhaps the most egregious problem of O'Leary's writing. Romance depends strongly on strong point of view writing so the reader not only understands which character's perspective they are currently enjoying, but also gains a deeper understanding of that person's motivations and perceptions. It was often not only difficult for me to to remember which character's POV I was hearing, but her lack of mastery in writing dialogue meant that I often had to take extra time to figure out who was even speaking! It's impossible to stay in a story when these types of mistakes continually jar you out of it and when there's a struggle to feel invested in a character.

I ended up returning this and another book of hers I purchased. It's my sincere hope that the author continue to expand her talents by taking classes and studying her craft as she is clearly dedicated to her genre and can produce book after book. Hopefully in time her writing abilities will catch up to her imagination but in the meantime, I cannot recommend this novel.

English Review

Sophia is a strong young woman despite the trials. Her father abandoned her and her brother Billy while their mother was fighting against cancer. After the death of their mother, Billy is placed with a foster family since Sophia can not take care of him. She has to earn more money to rent an apartment and regain custody of Billy. Billy’s foster parents are nice but he seeks his father and, for this, fugues.

One evening, seeking Billy in a bad part of town, Sophia witnesses a rape. She intervenes to save the young woman and finds herself in very bad shape. Fortunately Mason comes at that time. He notes that Sophia thinks of others before herself: she is wounded but is concerned for the young woman she has just saved and wants to go in search of her brother. He accompanies her to the hospital (he poses as her fiancé in order to stay with her). From that moment, I think he is already hooked. However, their story will start slowly because Sophia has some difficulties to trust (since her father abandoned her with her little brother and her sick mother, it makes sense).

Subsequently, well we have: love, sexy scenes (oh yes), friends, a team (Mason’s teammates), danger, suspense…
I immediately appreciated the main characters Sophia and Mason. I also liked to discover Billy, Sophia’s friends and especially Mason’s teammates! I have a big crush for Drake but I think that the next book will be dedicated to Clint. Am I right or wrong? We’ll see :) I’m a fan of Caitlyn O’Leary’s writing and I’ll follow this series. I think I’ll read her other series, The Found, while waiting for the others :)

DNR~No Depth

I was only able to finish 31%. The story just was not that compelling, and the initial spark of romance was abrupt, unrealistic, and frankly, cheesy. The story tries to have some angst and dimension, with Sophia being a wounded spirit due to a series of tragic events, leading to her rescue by Mason from an almost rape, and brutal physical assault. The unfolding of their sexual attraction and Sophia's supposed trauma do not mesh and are poorly portrayed, making light of the significant emotional after effects of such an assault.

Lastly, although there were clear attempts by the author to give substance to the characters, the portrayal of the Navy SEALS missed the mark by a long shot. I also felt the female character, who lived through so much hardship, has too many conflicting and contradictory traits, which were not indicative of her devastating history. So for me, way too cheesy and juvenile, with a very shallow depiction of characters and a choppy flow. If I can't immerse myself into the plot of a book, it's just a not my cup of tea.

I just loved this story. Sophia is such a strong character in when bad things happened she was determind to make it through and try to win her brother back from foster care. Ah Mason! I loved him, he was just perfect. He was demanding but not so pushy only because she was stubborn but in a way it good way. This was great story because although she tried to push away Mason was not having it, they were great together. His teammates were awesome as well they all protective like older brothers to Sophia. Can't wait to read Clint story.

Falling in love with a male character is not unusual for me, but Caitlyn, for the first time, made me fall in love with Mason before the first kiss was even delivered. The author starts this book from page one, giving us a look into Mason’s career as a Seal. In charge of a team that has become more of a family, he is dedicated to rescuing those in need, even if his life is in danger. So it doesn’t surprise me that he becomes the one to rescue Sophia in her time of need.

Sophia is a strong woman who was forced at an early age to survive, be independent and to never ask for help from anyone. Her dad left her for reasons you will find out in the book, her mother dies and her little brother was taken into foster care. She needs a job, a place to stay and a stable life if she is ever going to get her brother back in her care. One night when she is out looking for the runaway brother she is confronted with two men trying to rape a woman and she rushes in to save her but ends up needing to be rescued herself.

Mason becomes instantly aware that her need to be as independent as possible is important to her, but when threats start happening he will have to call in his team to find a balance to keep Sophia happy and safe. He sees her as his, the love of his life and the woman he will move heaven and Earth for, but first he has to convince her she wants him to be her Seal.

It will be difficult for Sophia to let go and trust Mason and his team but when she sees how they step with her brother, her walls start to crumble and she begins to see hope for the future. Loving someone has proven to lead to loss and abandonment, what if loving Mason and having him leave is the final blow to her heart and she will never recover.

I can’t tell you enough how Caitlyn brings her readers to the story instead of just providing entertainment for a few hours. As I was reading this book I had to message her and let her know I have never been so wrapped up with a character like I was with Mason AND that this man is MINE. I love how she can balance all of the emotions while telling a story that will affect your heart and soul. She shows us how each character can see past their own needs and empower each other to reach their goals and dreams. If you ever need a feel good story with some heavy hitting situations, then Caitlyn O’Leary is the author for you.

A good plot. The story held my attention well, but there was something a bit off about the writing.

The comma Fairy needs to visit this book, badly. I had to read sentences a few times to understand the meaning due to missing punctuation. Editing would have been helpful too, a lot of repeated information. And, the transition between character point of views was almost non-existent. I’d stop, confused for a moment then realize it was no longer the heroine, but the hero speaking.

Loved it! Another awesome SEAL story.

Plus, I got a charming, sweet, shy, girl-next-door for a heroine who still had a strength all her own, which I've been waiting to find more of!

Mason.... He was perfect for her! Uber protective, swoony sweet, just bossy enough, he tripped my trigger.

This was a pretty good story. I liked the main characters and their relationship. The main action of the story did resolve itself rather quickly, but was still a satisfying ending. Several 'extra' characters were introduced in the story and will no doubt be the heroes of the other stories in the series.

Caitlyn O'Leary Shows Emotional Sides To All Her Characters.

I received this book for a fair and honest review.

I started this book full of anticipation. I was hyped up from reading Ms. O'Leary's Anthology book Holiday Fever. When I received this book I started it right away. Little knowing I was going to read it straight through the night before having to go to work all day! Suffice it to say I was talking non-stop all day about this fabulous story!

Sophie Anderson is the kind of girl who always puts others before herself. Her Mother was sick and dying from cancer...she quit college and took over her care until she passed away. Her little brother who was placed in foster care when her mother was ill runs away to try and find their father, Sophie after working all day goes out to search some of the most unsavory areas in town. When she accidentally stumbles on two men beating and raping a young girl, she tries to stop them. Ending up being attacked herself. When help comes along in the form of Mason Gault a Navy Seal out walking because he couldn't sleep. When he lays eyes on the beaten woman in his arms he just knows there is something about her he has been looking for. When Mason starts spending time with Sophie he starts falling hard for her. Sophie on the other hand has been emotionally abused all her life by the men who were supposed to care the most for her. She can't figure out why someone as great as Mason would ever want someone like her. When the men who tried to kill her are released on bond she becomes scared and looks to Mason and his unit of Seals to protect her. Ms. O'Leary's characters are always sure, strong, brave, but with a compassion that is sweet and real. Sophie is the kind of woman that we all can identify with and her struggles mirror the life of women today. Mason is the type of protective, strong caring man that we all dream of finding for ourselves and yet he still has that edge to make him sexy.

This book was so sweet and sexy I was in love with the characters from the first chapter! I want to read more about Mason's Seal team and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Caitlyn O'Leary has a sure hit with this book and I am sorry I can't give it the 10 Stars it so richly deserves...So I will give it the 5 Stars I can and shout out "Read this Book! You won't regret it!"

This is my first read by Caitlyn, and it won't be my last...I need to know the rest of the team's stories.

Sophia has had some knocks in life and they have left invisible scars, but she keeps getting up and moving on. Mason is the leader of a SEAL team. He is definitely an alpha hero. When these two meet sparks fly.

There are several secondary characters that really help to make this story...Drake really stands out to me. I loved how Sophia did stand up for herself and Mason appreciated it. There were some totally swoon worthy moments. The only reason I did not 5 star this was because it didn't grab me right away...I had to keep reading, but it was worth it as I got further into the story. Give it a try...pretty sure you'll find something about it to like.

Her Vigilant SEAL by Caitlyn O'Leary is my first book by this author, and what a great surprise. This is a well written book. Mason and Sophia's story is loaded with phenomenal characters that made this book a pleasure to read. Ms O'Leary has packed enough action, suspense, humor and sizzle to keep you glued to this book. I enjoyed Her Vigilant SEAL and look forward to my next book by Caitlyn O'Leary. Her Vigilant SEAL is book 1 of the Midnight Delta Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

My first book by this author and probably not the last one.

The characters are pretty likeable. I would prefer Sophia to be a bit stronger heroine and Mason to be less bossy from time to time, but they are generally okay. The plot is not really about suspense. I would prefer to see more mystery in it. The beginning is quite nice and grabbing but than the story slows down a little.

I will probably read another book in this series in some time.

Loved, loved, loved it!
I've had this awesome book on my to read list for quite awhile and I am now kicking myself for not getting to it sooner. The passion, the suspense, the action, the brotherly SEAL comrades, the strength of a sister's love and protection for her little brother....these are some of the many reasons that Her Vigilant Seal had such a wonderful impact on me and I heartily recommend it.

I had purchased the majority of the books in this large series two years ago and I decided to read Her Valiant SEAL at the beginning of the week. I could just kick myself for not starting this series sooner. I have fallen hard for all if the SEALs on the Midnight Delta Team! They are all SEAL men down to the core, which makes for a hot hero. In this story, we have Lt. Naso. Gault who returns from a mission where there were casualties from his assigned team. He is still working on guilt. Then he is asked to help a woman in need who is getting badly beaten in an ally. He never thought we he can't to her rescue he would find the woman who could show superior strength and seize a Navy SEAL's heart. His journey with her will not be smooth, but he knows he can win her to his side.

Sophia Anderson has had an extremely tough last two-three years. She thinks she is just a plain California girl who is trying to do everything in her power to not be homeless, to get a job and a decent place to live so she can get her 12 year old brother out of the foster care system while taking care of dying mother. One night, while searching for her brother, she stops a rape in progress only to have their sights turn on her. In her mind, at least she is saving someone. When she opens her eyes she is laying in the lap of the most handsome man she has ever seen. A blue eyed God who is holding her in his arms.

The journey in this story is really, really good. Now, I definitely will continue to read the entire series back to back. To think this was a find a purchased two years ago!!!! Well now, I look forward to more from this "new to me" author.

Mason and Sophie, a great HEA

"Wait, how did I miss reading this?!" Anyway, no more messing around—I’ve fixed that mistake.

So here’s what’s up: Sophia’s mom sadly passes away, and suddenly, she’s got nothing left except, her little brother, Billy, Then, out of nowhere, she gets an awesome job that also is her new place to live. Pretty lucky, right? But when her brother runs away from the foster home, everything gets turned upside down. while she’s out looking for him, trouble finds her. Luckily, Mason shows up at the perfect moment—saving her from a scary situation while  He’s like her hero! whether she wants him to or not, he’s her protector and helper. There’s no going back now.Mason is amazed by her strong spirit and stubbornness—even though she’s hurt, she’s still fighting. But Sophie has a lot of her own problems, like not feeling good about herself and having trust issues. Mason has a tough job ahead of him—getting her to trust him and his team and to open up. It’s a wild ride, guys. You really need to see it to believe it.
Trust me, staying persistent makes all the difference, and the tension will keep you hooked—the suspense doesn’t stop! As their relationship grows, you’ll be flipping the pages like crazy.
Oh, and guess what? I’m already planning to read the whole series because I know It's going to be a wild ride.

To start this review, let me say simply that it wasn’t for me. I read romance and erotica regularly, but the Navy Seal trope isn’t one I have ever been interested in before. Still, I decided to give it a chance. I immediately found myself facing several unbelievable details and inconsistencies. From the descriptions of the characters, to the clunky dialogue, I had a hard time sinking into the story. Many aspects of the novel were written from a convenient position, meaning that things “just worked out”, with no plausible reason and nothing to back it up. I found chemistry issues between the main couple, with a poor dynamic in how they acted together, including the overuse of the main character being called “honey” by her love interest.
I got off to a bad start, clearly, but as I continued through the novel, I really struggled to enjoy the story. It just never quite recovered, and the ending completely ruined the book for me. I didn’t manage to get emotionally invested with any of the characters, I cringed and fought through most of the book, and between the grammar issues and the flat story, it’s just not doing well for me. I am honestly surprised I managed to finish it. I mean no offense to the author, but this novel just really didn’t strike the right note with me.

What An Amazing Story!

If I was given just one sentence to describe this book, it would have to be “I loved this story!”

This story touched my heart in so many ways. I love a good military romantic suspense and this one didn’t disappoint. It has an element of suspense and danger, a true demonstration of heroism, loyalty and brotherhood. Then it has the hot, sexy SEALs as well as undeniably sweet, timeless romance.

For a young woman that is so down on her luck, being rescued by a hot, well-built SEAL is almost more than Sophia can comprehend. When Sophia is in a life threatening situation, Mason, a very sexy SEAL, is there to rescue and protect her. Keeping her safe as well as helping her get healthy and earning her love is Mason’s true mission. With the help of his SEAL Team buddies, Mason helps find justice for Sophia as well as happiness and joy for her family and friends.

I loved how this story is told. The simple act of kindness from some unlikely people can mean the world to someone who desperately needs it. The fact that two of these people fall in love is the sweetest icing on the cake!

I just had one of those, how did I not read this moments. It seems I have read all of this series except for the latest release and of all things this one. The FIRST book. So I have now corrected that faux pas.

When Sophia's mother dies, she is left with just about nothing. The perfect job falls in her lap, a job that also provides her with a place to live. Then her brother runs away from his foster home.

Mason saves her from a horrific assault while she is looking for her brother. Whether she likes it or not, she now has his protection and help.

Mason can't believe her determination and resistance to taking care of herself in spite of her injuries.

Sophie has more issues than just her brother running away. Her self-esteem is almost non-existent, her confidence is only in herself and she trusts only a few people.

Mason has his work cut out for him and believe me it's rough going. He has to get her to trust not only him but his team as well.

Persistence is the name of the game. There is plenty of suspense to keep you turning the pages as this relationship develops.

I now have to re-read the rest of this series. I just know I've missed some important stuff.

Wonderful story of patience, acceptance, dedication, friendship, family and love. It was easy to become engrossed in this book from the start. The characters are well-written, interesting and fun, the plot interesting and gripping and the dialogue intense and fun with several laugh out loud moments. Sophia is sweet and instantly likeable and Mason is just a dream. There is a great balance of drama, suspense and romance and I enjoyed the way the author gives us a deeper look into Mason’s life, his SEAL team and their missions. I also liked the way the author worked up to Sophia and Mason’s sexual relationship, letting them get to know one another and building a bond of trust before diving right into the physical aspect of the relationship. And the additional characters, Mason’s team and Sophia’s friends, blended well and added a nice depth and entertainment to the story. This is the first book I have read by this author but it will definitely not be the last. I cannot wait to dive into the other books in the Midnight Delta series.

All you want is to be happy & safe. Sophia is worried sick about her brother he has ran away again from his foster home. The streets are dangerous but she has no choice but to look for him. Everything is about to change two men attack and beat her and she is so lucky a stranger comes along before they rape her. Mason can't believe that she has been searching for her brother all alone. He promises to help her when she feels better as he knows that she is hurt and he worries that something worse could happen. Sophia doesn't want to rely on Mason but he has been a great help and she feels safe with him around. Mason can't believe how lucky he is to have found Sophia but he worries about her when he is away as his job is dangerous and he knows that she will worry about him. But being a SEAL is what Mason is and he takes his duty very seriously so he knows that when he got involved with Sophia it was for keeps. But can he prove to her that it isn't just a casual fling and that he can look after her & her brother Billy? A great read.

ONE HOT AND STEAMY READ!!!
Wow! Talk about taking a wrong turn. This is one exciting, action packed, fast paced, nailbiting, nerve racking, hard hitting, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, heart pounding, page turning thriller that captivates from the start. All the twists and turns, ups and downs, ins and outs, along with a few bumps and dips make for one incredible experience. With all the drama, fear, heartache, you feel everything the characters feels. The suspense and danger rise as the tension spirals between high action events that has your attention on the pages and your rear frozen to your seat. The characters are written with such realism it's easy to relate and become part of the tale instead of on the sidelines watching. The scenes are so graphically detailed it's easy to picture each scenario as it plays off one another perfectly. Caitlyn did a beautiful job keep the suspense and danger riding high throughout the entire read. Fantastic job Caitlyn, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
