Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.
Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.
In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.
I am a fan of Robert Kirkman's via the TV adaptation of his "The Walking Dead" graphic novels. While I'm often frustrated by the poor writing that has taken place in the later seasons of the show, I fully believe the story succeeds so well, in print and film form, because of the strength of the characters. Creating good characters is a part of good writing, but sometimes even the best of characters can't help poor writing. Obviously, a title such as this isn't going to win any awards or change anyone's lives. While this started out campy and fun, by the end of Part 1 (of 5) the story had run out of steam and what little story was left was just not interesting, or even as interesting as the concept of zombies and super heroes could be. A generous two stars.
Kind of funny and goes in interesting directions. Art was ok, not stomach-turning. Zombie fans will be either overjoyed for something different or wish for more gore.
I do love zombies and I thght that since I'm binging on comics right now (binging may not be a strong enough word) I would try out Marvel Zombies. I had read the DC version "Dceased", so wanted to see what Marvel had in store for me. Overall? It was okay. The storyline was decent enough, but I didn't like the artwork as much. Some parts of the storyline didnt make sense to me. Since zombies are my jam, parts of the comic's story made me purse my lips and say an inward "wtf?". The lesson in my review is this....I liked it enough to make dirty dishes stack up in my sink, ignore everything around me so I could keep reading AND I would definitely read more. No regrets.
Horee ... makanaaaan!
Hm, I'm less interested now that the zombies are the protagonists. It's hard to root for them. The concept of them being in control of their minds instead of the typical mindless zombies you see in media is interesting for sure though. But, this story was way more compelling when there were still living people to root for.
I know this is just the first issue, but I definitely prefer The Walking Dead by a lot. It's my favorite comic series and has a lot of depth, whereas this first issue of Marvel Zombies feels very shallow.
Zombie comedy spin on your traditional Marvel superheroes. Instead of fighting for good, they're fighting for food. Didn't enjoy enough to pick up any more in this story arc.
I've read this before and loved it and second time on kindle it's still funny and gory. Cute and comical makes a perfect get away if your a fan of the Walking Dead.
