With her fifth child on the way and her son’s heart surgery just around the corner, Summer Gray is already approaching her breaking point. Then her estranged mother shows up on her doorstep after fifteen years, claiming to want to rebuild their relationship. While struggling to forgive her mother (who doesn't seem to have changed) for years of neglect, Summer daydreams of contracting a semi-serious illness or suffering nearly-life-threatening injuries so she can get a hospital stay-cation. Her friends Delaney and Josie stage The Motherhood Intervention, hoping to help Summer rediscover the life she loves and forgive her in the process.
Hilary Dartt loves great adventures, whether she’s writing, reading, or living them. The author of nine women’s fiction novels, Hilary lives in Arizona’s high desert with her husband, their three children, her Weimaraner and running partner, Leia, a failed barn cat, and a flock of chickens. She loves camping, exploring in the Jeep, and dance parties with her kids.
I liked this one too. However, I will admit it was least favorite one. Summer starts thinking about her mom and out of nowhere she shows up to Summer's house. While reading this we see that her mother wants to change but has a hard time. While this is all going on Summer is trying to raise 5 kids and keep her husband happy. She has a mental breakdown. Thankfully in the end with the help of her friends and family she becomes okay.
Summer is a married graphic designer who is pregnant with her fifth child. Happy but overwhelmed, one day she has a knock on her door. When she opens it she is quite surprised to find her estranged, alcoholic mother standing on her doorstep. To make it even worse her mother plans on staying. Summer's husband Derek thinks she should let her mother stay and help her with the kids. Summer's friends, Delaney and Josie, think that she needs to find more time for herself. They come up with a plan to try and help her do this. Will Summer's mother end up as just another thing she has to take care of, or will she turn out to be a help? * I read this book as past of a box set.
This book was a heart breaker but full of spirit. I loved it. I loved how the relationships evolved, fell apart, and came back stronger then ever. Pass me a vodka cranberry, please, and a box of tissue!
I had to finish reading this book to complete the series. I was invested in the friendships and relationships. I loved reading all three books and enjoyed the distraction from my everyday life. This was a good ending to the series.
