** 4,25 "your love is DEADLY" STARS **

We are completely isolated in DARKNESS. Even our SHADOWS leave us.

description

Three years spent in the dark and consuming world of Ryan that “normal people” will never know just how magical, how beautiful can be... Three years of blood and freedom. Three years in which no one else but THEY mattered.

Cereus finally feels like she BELONGS. Ryan gives her EVERYTHING. Well, expect HIM completely…and her body aches along with her heart for him to fully devour her. Ryan likes toying with her, and her heart, but there is one big truth: Ryan is hers, and she is his. No matter what.

My soul tethered and owned by his. My dark, beautiful enigma. How did I ever survive before you?
~ CEREUS

description

Cereus wishes she could embrace HERSELF. She can’t help but be haunted by nightmares of her victims and their screams… Ryan is so comfortable in the dark, so comfortable within himself, and so in peace with his inner monster, that Cereus is jealous of his freedom and longs for him to free her of the nightmares and guilt, carry her to the darkest corners of his mind and never let her go.

“Do your demons not drown you, Ryan?”

“I am my demons, and I know how to swim.”

description

Everything is near perfect. Until Georgina Yates.

Why didn’t Cereus listen when Ryan warned her that she would betray her? Why did she let Georgina come into their lives and ruin the fragile balance between them? Why did she let Ryan and Georgina bring out the ugly monster in her and lose control?

Now the game is over and Cereus wonders why she ever had to f*cking meet Georgina f*cking Yates

“I know who I am, what I am and what you are.”

“What am I, Ryan?”

“You’re mine, and I won’t let anyone take you from me.”

description

I must admit I cried and babbled like a crazy person, for these two f*cked-up soulmates, completely lost without each other, when I finished the book. I wish there was more. I wish they could have “won”.

There's this million dollar question on everyone's mind about this story I'm sure: WILL CEREUS AND RYAN...Y'KNOW...DO IT? I can answer that for people who are thinking of skipping this story because they think they will be too creeped-out by the whole incest angle.

Ryan was anything but normal, he was a king amongst men to me. A dark king forged from sin and he carried that aura around with him like a cloak, dousing him in a warning.

Only I didn’t see it as a warning. I saw it as an INVITATION.
~ CEREUS

description

This was a f*cking FANTASTIC ride Ker Dukey. Thank you for swallowing us into the darkness and spitting us out before we got a bit too comfortable in it. I sure as hell enjoyed all of your characters, from Ryan to Cereus, from Blake to Melody, and all the others that they touched the lives of.

Will be looking forward to more f*cked-up twisted stories with men like Ryan and Blake in it out of your pen!

“You’re a black hole Ryan and everything near you gets sucked in and destroyed.”

Not everyone is drawn to the sun. Some of us are drawn to the night and its calming darkness. Cereus was just one of us...

Genre: Dark Thriller
Type: Book (novella) 4 of 4 from Empathy series
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

Cereus Braxton has been moving from places to places with Ryan for a few years. Even with his guidance, she was still struggling to accept her true self. When he showed her another side if himself that he kept hidden, it could turn into something that will finally push her to her full potential.

He was so comfortable in the dark, within himself, that I was jealous of his freedom and longed for him to help free me of them.

My love for Ryan keep growing with every book so it is no surprise I love him here as well. He was calm and calculated, and that's what made him a formidable for. In this book we get to see another side of him.

He gave me everything but him completely and my body ached along with my heart for him to fully devour me.

Cereus was a mess compared to Ryan. She was uncontrollable and unpredictable which made her deadly.

“You’re mine, and I won’t let anyone take you from me.”

I like how there was a new dynamic in their relationship. It threatened their normal and pushed each of them to a dangerous direction.

I am conflicted with the ending though. On one hand I was disappointed with them not ended up the way I prefer. But on the other hand I like how it can be personally interpreted.

Normal people will never know just how magical, how beautiful the darkness can be.

Deadly is the conclusion to the dark thriller, Empathy series. The series would appeal to readers who love anti-heroes and villains.

Note:
Their love might be skewed but they really do love each other and I thought that’s very romantic in a disturbed way lol!

“When you’ve become lost to the undercurrent of the darkest sin, it’s your choice whether you drown or fight to the surface and breathe.
The pull to the dark side has always been...
DEADLY”

description

If you’re familiar with this author’s stories you know what to expect starting this book – something dark, twisted, disturbing and in this case bloody. So it goes without saying “Deadly” by Ker Dukey is not for everyone. This short installment fallows the characters from the previous book - Cereus and Ryan.

We know both Cereus and Ryan are not so..normal. They are different, they are dark, they are sick. For three years Ryan gave Cereus something she desperately crave it, a world where she could be free, a life where no one but them mattered. In all this time he showed her the world, his world, a world where everything was dark and consuming.

“He gave me everything but him completely and my body ached along with my heart for him to fully devour me.”

description

With Ryan, Cereus feels complete. He understands her like no other and she knows he loves her in his own way. Even if he has some strong feelings for her he likes to taunt and provoke her. She is aware of the fact all this time he gave her everything. Well, almost everything since he didn’t give her what she really wants - his body.

“...maybe what I feel for Cereus is only a fraction of what others feel when it comes to love but it was powerful, and overruling everything I wanted for us.”

Everything is perfect in their world until something happens, until someone manages to destroy their 'perfect' dark world.

description

Even if this was a short read, it was as dark, raw and bloody like the previous books in the series. The story is told both in the past and in the present and while I’m not of fan of this kind of storytelling, in this case it really worked. The story was definitely more interesting and more addicting this way. Mrs. Dukey did a great job portraying two characters who are sick, who have depraved minds, who kill (almost) without remorse, - two fascinating sociopaths. Cereus and Ryan’s characters are well developed despite the short length of the novel. They were captivating so say the least and they almost blew my mind with their actions. I enjoyed the pace pf the story and the fact everything was so unpredictable. “Deadly” like the other books in the series left me wanting more and honestly I never expected that ending, so needless to say I’m looking forward to read more about these characters.

Overall, a great dark, raw and twisted read!

Cereus has become insatiable for blood and death, an unstoppable and untreatable predator whose violence is planned, purposeful and emotionless - poised to disappear into the immense darkness.
 photo tumblr_nj4btsQc6X1r3ptbfo1_500_zpsfxkigf2w.gif
Cereus has become coolly, briskly confident and toys with the vulnerability of others. Evil and darkness are all around her.

Emotional abnormality. “Shallow” feelings. Fleeting emotions. Full force rage and envy. No remorse, no guilt. Her sociopathic behavior is the recipe for endless cruelty and depravity.
 photo tumblr_ns9irzfPHE1s0t8mao1_500_zpsvk19865m.gif

Throughout the book, there is a constant feeling of danger and death. Dark, gritty and mind-trippy, Deadly seduces the reader into the mind and mixed emotional state of a sociopath struggling with her own feelings because the world she knows is built on violence and death.
 photo tumblr_np8g0sSrkx1sfoq8to1_500_zps1qsjxq5c.gif

The author did such a great job with the delivery. The storyline was a bit complicated, with the narration jumping between recent past and present. Personally, I struggled whether I should love or hate those crazy heroes. It’s been a sick psychotic journey that left me drained and emotionally exhausted.

There are so many great things about this book but I don’t want to spoil anything. Captivating and a complete mind-warp, this was a great story that I give a definite thumbs up!!

I would hesitate to read this review if you haven't read the previous 3 books

Ok, Ryan, how I love you. My love for this series was proportional to how awesome Ryan was in the book. So, like a 10 for Empathy, an 8 for Desolate (because he disappointed me in that book), then it shot back up to an 11 for Vacant, and oh how I loved him in this, a 15 on a 10-point scale obvi. And right along with my love with Ryan, goes my love for him with Cereus. They are goals, like, OTP right there. I wanted it so badly in Desolate and then it sort of came to fruition in Vacant and then in this one, the ultimate tease!!! Whatever, I loved it anyway.
My soul tethered and owned by his. My dark, beautiful enigma. How did I ever survive before you?
So, down to what's actually going on in this book. We're back with Cereus and Ryan jet setting around the world with their many identities and we learn Cereus is still having problems merging her psyche; accepting her true identity. Ryan is doing his best to help her along in an effort to preserve their life together but he can only help so much. Cereus gets a friend in this book and this just proves to be an added complication of Ryan and Cereus' dynamic. Georgie, the new friend, doesn't fit well with Ryan and Cereus, she's a pawn in the power struggle between the two and she ends up creating immeasurable friction between the two.
The powerful intensity from being by his side could be compared to none, he was it for me, and I worshipped him. I fed on the remedy of his allure willingly.
Ryan's in a unique position in this book, for the first time he wants to consider someone else's feelings and wants into his plans. He wants to help Cereus and be in her presence despite the obstacles her mental health may pose. He's confident that because they are so alike he's the only person who can lead her into this new life they're trying to build.
Ryan was anything but normal, he was a king amongst men to me. A dark king forged from sin and he carried that aura around with him like a cloak, dousing him in a warning.
This novella was really good, the timeline switched between past and present and we had several POVs so it requires a bit more attention to ensure you don't get lost in the story. The ending for this one was a little devastating. I was not expecting the way it ended. And then Ker Dukey further twisted the knife when I read the acknowledgements and learned we'd get no more Ryan and Cereus. That was it. I am now tasked with finding some measure of comfort in the conclusion we’ve been provided despite the fact that I’d love more of this story! I’ll learn to be content with the amount of Ryan and Cereus that Ker Dukey has provided (but if she wanted to write more I’d totally read it. Just saying.)

She's fucking done it again!!

This bird is so fucked up in the head....and I fucking LOVE IT!!!

I read my first ever DARK READ a few years back and I just knew this fucked up shit was my cup of tea so I read more, until one of my book friends mentioned a name that I had never heard before.

Ker Dukey.

I mean that could be anyone one, right?!

To me she was just a name. That's it.

So I thought, fuck it let's one click this motherfucker.

GAME FUCKING OVER!

This fucking woman fucked with my brain and my vagina!

I just thought to myself, finally I've met someone with a filthy and sick mind worse than mine!

She created one of the most funniest mother fuckers who you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley but you wouldn't mind getting fucked by him in one....if you were suicidal.

SHE'S A FUCKING GENIUS and I was to live in her brain!!

Yes I would probably be put in a straight jacket afterwards but it will be worth it!

When ever anyone asks me if a certain book is a dark read I always says, 'it's dark, but not Ker Dukey dark!'.

Desolate is one of my all time favourite books and the series just keep getting better!

I fucking loved every single bit about this fucking book!!!

Ryan and His Cereus are so fucking hot together, that have the most powerful connection that you will never find in other characters!! And there's blood!!

Lots and lots of BLOOD!!

I need more!!! I will never tire of theses fucked up pair!!!

THIS AUTHOR IS A LEGEND!!!!

In Deadly, the story opens with Cereus and Ryan traveling throughout the world forging their own path together in darkness. Their allegiance to each other is based upon a bond making them soul mates on a deep level. Knowing what dark and impure urges percolate within Cereus, Ryan is dedicated to teaching her how to own her sinister side. Of course, Ryan is the consummate psychopath tutor to Cereus’ sociopathic tendencies.

“He possesses the ability to breathe superiority inside me, making me feel strong and as tall as the highest mountain…jagged and unclimbable.”

Living a nomadic lifestyle allows Ryan and Cereus much needed anonymity, but with Cereus acting on her propensities without much premeditation, Ryan assumes the role his brother, Blake, fulfilled for many years. Being a loner, Cereus doesn’t have the skill set to make friends nor does she really have the urge to be accepted, so when someone crosses Cereus, it could lead to a bloody conclusion.

“My pulse pounds heavily in my ears, the scream of my inner beast tearing at my façade wanting its freedom, and the beast will get her wish…”

While it is clear that Cereus is cut from the same cloth as Ryan, Cereus doesn’t quite evolve like Ryan and refuses to consciously accept her nightmares as truths. As Cereus struggles to reconcile her emotions, she still has strong feelings for Ryan that extend beyond genial relations between a niece and uncle. For Ryan, societal limitations are for the weak and since he is above such triviality, it’s a non-issue but he does have his reasons for holding back.

“The powerful intensity from being by his side cold be compared to none, he was it for me, and I worshipped him. I fed on the remedy of his allure willingly.”

Adding to the tension of their situation, Cereus’ motivations are examined and the connection between Ryan and Cereus is underscored, especially when Cereus is tested, but Ryan won’t ever let her stray too far. Ryan will always be the most memorable psychopath and Cereus a perfect counterpart to his malevolent existence. Somehow, it was comforting to know Ryan and Cereus were holding down their own version of fictional justice against hypocrisy and idiocy.

In this final book of the Empathy series, it all comes full circle due to Ker Dukey’s masterful storytelling. The plot in Deadly is tightly constructed and the chapter chronology fuels the mystery of how it is all unfolding. While I selfishly don’t want the journey to end, Ryan’s voice will always remain somewhere in my mind. I highly recommend Deadly and the Empathy series.

“Men like me, we were not created for this world, it’s too small, too many rules, restrictions… humanity, and yet here I am, engulfed with the one emotion I never thought I was capable of feeling. Maybe I’m still not, maybe what I feel for Cereus is only a fraction of what others feel when it comes to love but it was powerful, and overruling everything I wanted for us.”
- Ryan

* * *
“I know a love so strong that I followed it into the darkest shadows, I bathed in the centre of another’s soul. You know you’re meant to be when you look into the eyes of the one you love and see yourself in them looking back at you, you’re one soul.”
- Cereus

* * *
“I lay here dying by the hand of the only person I’ve ever loved. I was born cold, hollow, all emotions vacant within me. I questioned ever owning a soul until Cereus. My life shifted when I met her, I thought it was infatuation.”
- Ryan

* * *
“I was losing her, she wasn’t going to come back from this and it was my fault. Everything bad that’s happened in her life revolves around me. I’m a sick fuck that’s too selfish to let her go and live a better life. I was never strong enough to let her go and I’m still not. There was no me without her, life would cease to exist. Nothing made sense without her there to figure it out for us. She was created for me and as cruel as that was to give such a shining light to a dark soul with even darker ones haunting him, she was still given to me and she was mine to keep and heal. I’d do what I’ve always done. I’ll reassemble all those fragmented pieces and love her so hard that she can’t help but accept that I love her more than life itself. We belong together and can get past anything.”

4 Cranky Stars!

The Empathy series by Ker Dukey is definitely not for the faint of heart, yet it will bring out all the dark feels, and have you thinking to yourself, “What the hell is wrong with me and why do I like it?” She’s a master of mind-blowing stories, and always has me dumbfounded at the end.

This is a continuation of Ryan and Cereus’s story, it’s 3 yrs down the road, and the chaos and blood hasn’t slowed down. Ryan is teaching Cereus to embrace her inner darkness, but there have been some hiccups along the way. Cereus has been blacking out; not knowing what’s real or just in her crazy mind, and it’s causing both her and Ryan to get into some rather sticky situations…literally!

The journey they take together is absolute darkness, madness of the mind, yet on the same level, it frees them to be who they truly are. No one will ever come close to having the connection they have, and it’s crazy yet inspiring at the same time. I felt I was left hanging at the end, but that’s the way Ker likes it, always dragging you back for more and it’s working like a charm!

Hmm...I’m on the fence here peeps. Do I love Cereus’ character or do I not like how she was developed? I’m on the fence.

It was amazing to see the push and pull for the forbidden love of these characters. They were on the line of going a little far, but in their own way they didn’t. Very very very intriguing and such good writing to even be able to write with this push and pull of this love.

Ryan is still a solid character. He is one of the best villains I’ve read in awhile because he’s complex and written with such intention it’s a breath of fresh air to be honest.

Cereus is a character that is complex in a way as well. Maybe it’s just me being someone who knows a little about psychology, but sociopaths and psychopaths isn’t an actual diagnosis for those with extreme antisocial, erratic behaviors in psychology. I did like how the author explained Ryan and Cereus’ connection on a personality based thing, but I think if the author knew a little more details on what Cereus possessed in her personality and such, then her character would have been written a little bit better and more accurate-just like how Ryan was written.

One of the things that astonished me is Blake and his reaction near the end. No spoilers I swear! I just think I saw a new part of who Blake is and that’s amazing to be at the end of a series and still develop a character so beautifully. And this goes for Ryan as well.

One of the strengths of this author is creating these characters. Character development is her strength and the heart of this entire story. Not the plot, but her characters and her overall writing style. Such poetic deep thought provoking words on a page (or a kindle lol). I will reread again in the future to see what I missed but a great story.

*Buddy read with A. Girl! We’ve gone through these characters together from start to finish and it was indeed so much fun! We were both stunned with this story, and I’m happy to have gone through it with her. We will read something else together soon!

4.5 rating based on Cereus character as explained earlier.

5.0 star rating for the entire series.

Maybe this was how it was always supposed to be. I'd got it wrong, thinking I was with Ryan in the dark because the truth was...

We are completely isolated in darkness. Even our shadows leave us...

Ryan and Cereus are back, traveling the world on a adrenaline based killing spree. A macabre Bonnie & Clyde.. wreaking havoc and relishing in the torment of others. But as Cereus begins to get out of control, Ryan must figure out how to bring her back- but not enough to wipe out the darkness they both share.

My pulse pounds heavily in my ears, the scream of my inner beast tearing at my facade wanting its freedom, and the beast will get her wish tonight.

2/4 stars ~ Averaged out to 3 stars

Why two ratings? Well, there was an aspect of this story that I loved and an aspect that I didn't. I averaged it out to 3 stars but my thoughts reflect both a 2 and a 4 star rating.

Why four stars?
I love this series- every installment is a page-turner. The story arcs are unpredictable and get me every time... the author is a dark mastermind. I enjoyed the tone and flashback elements of this novella... we are bounced around from months ago to present time and the story unfolds as if we're solving a difficult puzzle.

Also, the ending was sick and twisted and I never expected such a shocking ending! I loved it!

Why two stars?
This took away a lot of my reading enjoyment... I felt both characters were too far gone from their original selves that I couldn't relate to the story anymore and couldn't connect the previous part of the series to them. It was as if I was reading about two new people. Cereus became so evil and mentally incoherent to reality that I disliked her and couldn't carry the same fondness I had from the previous books. Ryan lost his "edge" and wasn't the twisted anti-hero I fell in love with before... his character seemed to plateau in my opinion.

Overall, a good story and I couldn't put it down- I just couldn't get past the characters not even being remotely close to their original characterization. *sigh*

No matter what the Empathy series is one of the best I've read all year and I am a huge fan of the author's... I will continue on with her other dark stories. xx

"We are completely isolated in darkness. Even our shadows leave us…"

The Empathy Series is twisted perfection. Deadly is the ultimate guilty pleasure! Dive into the dark, you know you want to.

This series couldn't have ended any better. Ryan holds top spot for dark heroes in my twisted little heart. I can't let go of Ryan.

" Ryan was anything but normal, he was a king amongst men to me. A dark king forged from sin and he carried that aura around with him like a cloak, dousing him in a warning."

The conclusion. The end.
Maybe. One could only hope for at least one more book. I tell you what, this series could go on for another ten books, and I'd still be just as fascinated as I was reading the first book. How will the dark end for Ryan and Cereus? You won't expect it, you never know what little twists Ker will pull out of her sleeve.

I feel like I'm a voyeur. Should I have laughed throughout this book? Probably not. I can't help myself. Should I have enjoyed every last drop of blood? Probably not. Do I care? HELL NO. Dukey has the ability to write dark in a poetic, mind consuming way. The characters are flawed, the writing twisted, the words full of forbidden. I couldn't look away. I actually begged for more.

The final piece has been played. The game ended the way it should've, I hate to let these characters go. Enjoy the ride!!!

“I know a love so strong that I followed it into the darkest shadows, I bathed in the centre of another’s soul. You know you’re meant to be when you look into the eyes of the one you love and see yourself in them looking back at you, you’re one soul.”

Ker Dukey once again has stepped up the intensity and craziness in DEADLY. If I thought the previous books were deadly haunting then you have to meet Cereus and her twisted love of Ryan. Deadly picks off right where it last left off in Vacant so readers are given the present and past of what happened to Cereus and Ryan as they were last seen off riding off together. Jealousy, Lies, Murders, Guilt, and Blood soon begins to follow them in a big way as darkness begins to takeover Cereus. Blurred by her strong love for Ryan, Cereus takes killing to a whole new level. She has become addicted to it. So Deadly definitely ends with a BANG.. so if you want to find out what happens to these two, then I recommend you to read deadly because their love is definitely deadly.

So Jen and I both started this Empathy Series a few weeks apart. I basically told her she needs to drop everything and START..THIS..BOOK! She did and the rest was history for us. We went through this crazy and scary ride and was fearful how it would end. Would the “core four” (Blake, Melody, Ryan and Cereus) still be intact..could Ryan and Cereus live a HEA in weird uncle/niece killer universe sort of way? So, so many scenarios flitted through our head of what could happen. Then we got the arc and even though Ker is one hell of a writer and keeps you pinned to your kindles, this final version didn’t live up to our expectations. Believe us, that pains us to write this, but it’s an honest review and at the end of the day we have to give you the truth.

So the plan was to write a joint review, but switch it up a bit. This is going to be dialogue style. Fair warning we could get a bit spoilerish.

Lynne: So Jen, after all of that..what was your initial thought after finishing, “Deadly”?

Jen: My initial thoughts were, “What the f*ck was that? That ending sucked ballz”. Honestly, I felt like I had been dragged through hell and back with Empathy, Desolate and Vacant, and then I am handed this anti climactic disappointment. I had hoped that either they would kill each other in some grand Romeo & Juliet way or that Cereus would kill Ryan. Not this ending that Ker gave us. I feel like we gave it 100% and Ker gave us 50%. I know you were disappointed as well Lynne, what were your overall thoughts on that ending?

Lynne: My reaction I think was, “WTF this can’t be how it ends. Nope not buying it”. Then I realized that “yeah this was the ending..seriously?”. Ryan and Cereus, this may sound weird because of the relation between them both, but they are an epic book couple. Their connection is so twisted, destructive but it worked. I loved it. I just feel the end of this book and series was so lackluster for them. They deserved such a better and crazy ending (i.e. – them killing people and continuing on their scary path, Cereus killing Ryan or them killing each other)

*sigh* There has to be something we love from this book or from the series as whole, what was yours?

Jen: Something that I liked….I seriously had to marinate on that one for a minute. I was happy to see Blake and Melody’s presence in the book. Even though it’s in the perifery, I felt that it was pivital to the plot. As a fan of the first books, those characters are the characters you rooted for. I needed them to be safe, I needed them to find resolution. If resolution is even possible for Blake and Melody. I did a fist pump and yelled YAHOO with the altercation in the kitchen. Speaking of the altercation in the kitchen…After all these people have been through, how is it possible that they still don’t lock the door to their house? Hello? Your husband’s brother is a pyschopath? Lynne, I am sure there is probably more to like in this book, than what I mentioned. I realize I have to be constantly reminded, it’s just a book, but there are aspects of this last book that felt unrealistic. Was there anything that you felt was unrealistic with the story?

Lynne: Hmm the fact that Blake let’s Ryan “take care” of Cereus after the events in “Vacant”. I don’t know any father, or parent for that matter, let his child run off like knowing she isn’t well. I think that’s what threw me for a loop at the end of that book. Also yes the kitchen altercation. Lock the freaking door people!! But Melody didn’t realize Ryan was alive so you can’t really fault her.

So what’s the final consensus Jen?

Jen: My final thoughts…Deadly was a huge let down. Empathy, Desolate and Vacant provided the foreplay, but Deadly was not up to par…No bookgasm for me. I am sad to give it my 2.5 star rating, and that’s being generous….

Lynne: Empathy, Desolate, Vacant..above the bar..twistingly perfect pieces of fiction. Deadly, for me, was on that road to joining that train of thought. The writing and scenes got your blood pumping. Afraid to see what that next page could bring. At some point the story just started to fall and fall quickly. I swear the ending killed that book for me. As I said, Ryan and Cereus are such an epic couple, that ending wasn’t their just due. They deserved so much more. Out of a 5, I’m giving this a 3 star.

The thing about being such an avid reader, you come across so many different elements and styles of writing.

Book 1 sparked my interest. No, it wasn't the H and the h but rather the brother. He was the star of the show.

Book 2 gave me a tease. I needed more. The hint was such a ...dangling of the carrot in front of my eyes. I was drug along and left hanging. I've read my fair share of cliffhangers and such, some books I could care less about...this one though...Ryan had me captivated.

Book 3, this book, now this book delivered.

Though I did feel that we were thrown into the deep end head first, once we spluttered and gasped for breath and got used to our surroundings...it became like a hit, a drug that took you under and spit you out, leaving you craving your next hit.

A rollercoaster ride I would gladly take again and again.

I was almost devastated that it ended.

There are plenty of books out there about "sociopaths" and "psychopaths" and the women/men who fall for them. But has there truly been such a beautiful catastrophe/beautiful love story as one with a psychopath + a sociopath?

The knife is serrated and I can’t help but love the fact she chose a serrated edge. It sucks for my insides…but showed Cereus’ true character.

I absolutely LOVED the way it was written. I am so inspired.

There is storytelling.
There is weaving of a tale with poetic prose.
And there is creating artistry through the form of storytelling.

*5 bloody stars from me. I rank this book dark dark/on the verge of pitch black with mad love*

I absolutely love this series. The characters are some of the best I have read. But Ryan and his psychotic mind is who kept me coming back for more. The things that he says or that go through his mind make me giggle sometimes. I probably shouldn't have put that out there being he is a demented killer and all but eh, it's the truth. He has become my favorite psychopath thus far.

When Cereus (Ryan's young niece) teams up with him, I couldn't contain my delight. He takes her under his wing when she starts exhibiting some pretty fucked-up behavior of her own. He tries to reign her in the best he can but I dare say, she has more bloodlust than him.

They make quite the demented duo; the sociopath and the psychopath. She loves him and if he had the capability, he would love her, too. They never cross that line though as much as Cereus wants to and Ryan knows it. Hell, I wish they would have crossed that line. I could care less about their relationship being taboo, they belong together. It's not like they're normal anyway, right? And watch out if Cereus catches another woman making eyes at Ryan.

Their crazy little world comes tumbling down when one night Cereus wakes up and witnesses Ryan and...well let's just say she lets her feelings become known.

Okay, so here we go again. The brat in me has been triggered again. Let me put it to you this way, this had better not be the last book. Please let there be another. The way it ended..

Just about every review I read loved it, stating that it was perfect ending for them. Wh...What?!?! Am I reading the same book here? These people must be masochists. I want more for my twisted pair. They deserve it dammit!

I must be a masochist, too. Despite that ending, I still loved this book.

Still unfortunately by the end, still not feeling Cereus, don't hate her as much but still don't like her. This is a unique and unforgettable series over all 4.5 stars

Very happy that Blake/Mel seem to be back to the couple I loved in the first book even thought there wasn't much of them.

Still love PSYCHOPATHRyan!

"My soul tethered and owned by his, my dark, beautiful enigma. How did I ever survive life before you?"

I will never stop wanting more Ryan & Cereus! It's fucked, twisted, sick & wrong... But I love every second of it!

Ker made me question my morals & sanity about a million times while reading, but that's why I love this woman! Her story telling is unlike any author I've read and her writing is always on point. Not just on point, her writing is brilliantly beautiful!

Of course I would LOVE more of these two messed up souls but I actually feel like the ending was pretty perfect...in a really fucked up way...

Agh! My emotions, my heart, my mind & of course my vagina are all very confused right now! But I wouldn't want it any other way after reading one of these sinfully, amazing books!

I'm a little disappointed with the ending. I wasn't asking for Ryan and Cereus to run off into the sunset together but I feel ... unsatisfied. Though it makes sense how everything ended, I'd hope they could live and be who they are in freedom.

What a ride!

The title fits this book to the T. It was deadly, full of twists and turns and so much more. This book was gritty, bloody, and full of darkness. Two souls who were born not like the rest of us. They lack emotions and there minds just vacant. They are known as psychopaths and sociopaths.

Expect it all With this one, it's a ride that's for sure. It's full of no remorse, murder, violence, grittiness, gore, bloodshed and so much more.

These two have a connection like no other, something happens to make them separate and they will do everything in their power to be with one another. I can't say I loved or hated the ending but I wish it ended differently for these two. They are so a like and crave the same urges. No matter how this book gives the whole forbidden saga of it being her uncle. They didn't have a uncle and neice relationship. I love these two together. You see changes occur with both characters but especially a guy character. Could be actually have the emotion of love running through him.

Seriously if you haven't read this series yet then you need to. Incredibly dark and gritty.

This series was a crazy ride but highly addictive, with a rather quiet and sad end but maybe the best for Cereus and Ryan.
Following them on their killing sprees was definitely a challenge. They're both so twisted but absolutely perfect for one another, dark soul mates.

"My soul tethered and owned by his, my dark, beautiful enigma."

It's their interpretation of a perfect romance, violent, dark, kinky, their relationship is so screwed up and taboo.
Sheesh what an end, seeing Jace and Mel again was great but under these circumstances... my heart hurt for both of them.
It really was an emotional end to the Empathy series and I enjoyed every minute, but I am a bit sad that the story ends with Deadly.

What a perfect ending to this series! Cereus and Ryan....I don't know which one I loved more. She was his compliment. He was her salvation. From the very first time these two met, I knew that one could not exist without the other. They are truly two halves of a whole. In many ways, I believe that Ryan kept Cereus grounded. He let her be free without losing herself to her demons. It's odd to say that Ryan may be the more "normal" out of the pair. How strange does THAT sound????

Ryan is one character that I was not sure I would ever really like. How wrong I was! I know what he says, that he has no empathy, and I do agree...for the most part. But then how do you explain Cereus? I believe it goes back to my original train of thought, they are two halves of a whole. Does he love her? I think in his own way, yes. Does he love his brother? In his own way, yes. Even Mel. Then again, I could be all wrong and he really is the soulless evil man that he says that he is.

Blake and Mel also have to come to terms with a reality that they did not want to face. At times, it is heartbreaking. These two have come so far only to have history repeat itself. Old monsters also make an appearance and have the story come full circle.

Deadly MUST be read AFTER the entire series. It is NOT a stand alone. It IS dark and disturbing. And I loved every minute of it.

This book . . . not the ending I expected to the series, and if I'm honest, it was a bit of a let down.

While the readers know what kind of person Cererus now is, the things she does in this book never felt right for me. It wasn't 'her'. She's delved a little too far into the darkness and for some reason, it never felt in character.

Ryan redeems himself a little in this book, much as he did in Deadly, but not overly. It starts to border upon 'weird' and incestuous which is something I don't enjoy reading, regardless how much I love an author and their books.

I liked reading about Blake and melody once more, and their acceptance of what Cererus has become, but for some reason, I was unable to accept her like that.

I'll give this series a re read in the future, but for me, this is the weakest book out of the lot.
