But military service, too, must come to an end. From the intimacy of a soldier's companionship to the unsettling silences surrounding violence and injustice, Bandhu's story traverses worlds that are as complex as the humans who inhabit them. अपने आसपास की बहुत सारी घटनाओं को मनुष्य नजरअंदाज कर देता है। ऐसी रोज़मर्रा की गतिविधियों में भी कुछ अलग घटित हो रहा है, यह कुत्ते की नज़रों से नहीं बचता। धरती के एक भाग की कहानी ऐसे जीव के माध्यम से कही जाए, जिसके पास मानव के समान भाषा नहीं है, लेकिन उसका जीवन अनुभव बहुत गहरा है। उसने बहुत कुछ देखा, सुना, समझा है। ऐसा प्राणी जब अपनी कथा कहेगा तब कौन-कौनसे सच सामने आयेंगे? 'पंजा' उपन्यास 'बंधु' की ऐसी ही असाधारण जीवन यात्रा की कहानी है।

भारतीय नस्ल के कुत्ते के जन्म से शुरू होती उपन्यास नायक 'बंधु' की कथा अनेक अप्रत्याशित राहों से हो कर आगे बढ़ती है। बचपन में गोद लिए जाने से लेकर भारतीय सेना में शामिल होने तक बंधु का जीवन बहादुरी, कर्तव्यनिष्ठा, साहस और निष्ठा की कसौटियों से बार-बार गुजरता है। अपने पहले 'परिवार' और हैंडलर के साथ उसके रिश्ते उपन्यास में भावपूर्ण अध्याय जोड़ते हैं।

सेना में अपनी सेवाएं देकर बंधु का सेवानिवृत्त होना और एक राजनेता के घर पहुँचना उसके जीवन में नया मोड लेकर आता है। नये परिवेश में सत्ता, विशेषाधिकार और संवेदना के बीच धुँधली होती मानवीय भावनाओं की सीमाएं बंधु के जीवन में नयी कथा को जन्म देती हैं।

सैनिकों के साथ आत्मीय संबंध से लेकर हिंसा और अन्याय के इर्द-गिर्द पसरे मौन तक 'बंधु' की कथा ऐसी असहज करने वाली ख़ामोशियों से होकर आगे बढ़ती है जो मानव मस्तिष्क के समान ही जटिल है। वह कुछ ऐसे क्षणों का साक्षी भी बनता है जिसकी गवाही के लिए शब्द कम पड़ जाएं। 'बंधु' की गवाही के बगैर शायद वह घटना दफ़्न हो जाती जिसका वह अनपेक्षित साक्षी बन जाता है।

भारतीय नस्ल के कुत्ते की दृष्टिकोण से वंदना यादव का यह उपन्यास एक प्राणी को गोद लेने, उसकी नैतिक जिम्मेदारी उठाने और मानवीय प्रकृति के अंतर्विरोध की पड़ताल करता है। 'पंजा' उपन्यास मनुष्य और कुत्ते के रिश्ते के संवेदनशील चित्रण के साथ सामाजिक और यथार्थ पर पैनी नज़र भी डालता है जो हमारे जीवन को आकार देते हैं। ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि कभी-कभी सबसे गहरी सच्चाई उन जीवों की कहानियों में छिपी होती है, जिन्हें सुनना या जिनकी भाषा समझने का हमने प्रयास ही नहीं किया।

Vandana Yadav is a Hindi language writer, poet and motivational speaker who has published in total 26 books that includes 3 novels, 3 self-help books, multiple children's books, an adult education book, a memoir, a travelogue, and 3 collections of poetry. Her work has also been translated to English, Urdu, Haryanvi, Marathi and Odia.

Her first novel, ‘Kitne Morche’ is the first Hindi novel of its kind that revolves around the lives of Army wives.

As an Army wife herself, her contribution to the fraternity through the written word has extended beyond just one novel. Her third novel, ‘Panja’ which is told through a dog’s perspective, features a substantial section navigating life in the Army. It also features the daily routine of a dog in the military and what dog handlers do.

Additionally, Vandana Yadav has edited a collection of short stories, ‘Zindagi Aur Maut Ke Beech’ revolving around the Indian Army, written by new and established Hindi writers. She has also edited two non-fiction anthologies of Army wives’ diaries titled ‘Sainik Patniyon Ki Diary’ and ‘Sainik Patniyon Ki Katha Aur Vyatha’. All three
of the books have been bestsellers.

In addition to her work documenting Army life, she has also published short stories in
reputed Hindi magazines and frequently writes for leading national newspaper, Jansatta and NDTV along with other publications, addressing issues ranging from women’s rights, mental health and preservation of culture.

Her children’s picture book, ‘Sabjiyon Wale Gamle’ (published by the National Book Trust, India) has sold more than 5 lakh copies and has been included in the Bulbul project by state governments of Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

उपन्यास के साथ वंदना यादव ने बच्चों के लिए भी अनेक पुस्तकें लिखी हैं जिसमें में बाल उपन्यास 'चिखुरी', कविता संग्रह 'नीला आसमान', कहानी संग्रह 'पिकनिक और कहानियाँ' तथा यात्रा-वृत्तांत के माध्यम से बाल साहित्य में भी अलग-अलग विधाओं के साथ प्रयोग किए हैं। नेशनल बकु ट्रस्ट, इंडिया द्वारा प्रकाशित लेखिका की कहानी की पुस्तक 'सब्जियों वाले गमले' की अब तक 5 लाख से अधिक प्रतियाँ पाठकों द्वारा खरीदी गई। इसे राजस्थान, हिमाचल प्रदेश और मध्य प्रदेश की राज्य सरकारों के 'बुलबुल प्रोजेक्ट' में भी शामिल किया है।

कथा साहित्य के साथ कथेतर साहित्य में भी वंदना यादव अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज करवाती है। इसमें सिक्किम पर दो यात्रा-वृत्तांत - एक वयस्क पाठकों के लिए तथा दूसरा बालकों के लिए है। रचनाकार का संस्मरण 'आई डोंट लाइक यू' उनके बचपन की स्मृतियों और छोटे-छोटे प्रसंगों को समेटता है। इसके अतिरिक्त, आपने तीन सेल्फ-हेल्प पुस्तकें भी लिखी हैं। विशेष रूप से उल्लेखनीय है कि सेना परिवेश से आने वाली वंदना ने भारतीय सेना से संबंधित कथा तथा कथेतर साहित्य की पुस्तकों का संपादन भी किया है। यह पुस्तकें हिंदी सैन्य साहित्य के समृद्ध खजाने में महत्वपूर्ण स्थान रखती हैं।

वंदना यादव की कहानियाँ साहित्य अमृत, हरिगंधा और जनसत्ता के दीपावली विशेषांक में प्रकाशित हुई हैं। आप नियमित रूप से एनडीटीवी और जनसत्ता जैसे राष्ट्रीय मंचों के साथ-साथ जानकी पुल और पुरवाई जैसे साहित्यिक मंचों के लिए भी लिखती हैं। वंदना यादव के लेखन में महिला अधिकारों, मानसिक स्वास्थ्य, संस्कृति संरक्षण और सम-सामयिक विषयों सहित अनेक मुद्दे शामिल होते हैं।
