Message: The Rakes Arranged. Marriage by Ruth Regan GENRE: A Historical Romance set in the Regency era.
This is more of a novella, it's a very quick read. Unfortunately I found it lacking in character development and plot depth, if it had a few hundred more pages this could have allowed for a better formed story. Elliot and Cara did not have enough likable qualities for me to engage with them. Elliot was too self-centered, he has underlying issues which the story never address the background of. Cara was extremely naive and immature. Their connection wasn't there, not enough chemistry between them to believe there hastily found affections and exaggerated declarations.
On a positive note the author researched her subject well to include accurate settings and monologue used in that time period.
The author did an amazing job of creating complex characters. I loved Cara and adored Elliot, he came off as a man of mystery and at times a little eccentric.
The flow of the story was wonderfully written and engaging, but it had one fault, it ended too quickly and towards the end felt a bit rushed.
The book started out ok. But...I didn't feel like the H had any REAL feelings for the h. On his WEDDING day, he is with his lecherous friends, and has invited all of the women he has slept around with. And she forgives him. I think this guy is Bi-Polar. She was royally screwed by her father, first by marrying her off to an old letcher who dies trying to rape her on their wedding night, then same with this horrible rake.
Just bad all around.

Thin plot. Ok characters. A bit thin as plot lines go but some depth in characters. I would have liked to see more time passing and more about their daily lives together to bolster the "I love you's."
There are some parts that I really liked about this book, and some that I didn't appreciate very much, like the way the hero and heroine would sometimes start to speak in a flowery manner to each other. Their banter seemed more natural, their declarations, over the top. I did like the fact that they were presented as complex characters. For the most part, I liked the writing, I could sometimes imagine the story as a movie. I also feel the story could have been longer, to make the characterization more detailed (especially Elliot's, who is still partially a mystery). I would have also liked the love story to be more than instant attraction, but it was written better than other insta-love books I have read. In conclusion, it was an enjoyable story. 3.75 stars.
I found this story lacking in so many ways....a union between two troubled people lacking in love and honesty. The hero is self centered and off. The lady is naive and stupid. It is never explained why the hero is so screwed up in the head, but we are just to understand him and deny his obvious lack of his own self worth. He is pathetic! And she becomes, as pathetic as him. It ends up being a pity party and we are left to expect him to change for her....not likely given his behavior after the wedding. It is a waste of time to read this book. I would never recommend this book to another.
It took me two days to read this, that should say two things. First that it is a short novel. second, I couldn't put it down.
It was charming. I love reading regency books. The central characters are interesting. They are both damaged in their own way and yet managed to fall in love while accepting their flaws. I love how Elliot was so giving to Cara. Anything she might have need or wanted, he gave willingly. Just to please her. He wanted to see her happy. Cara was not very happy at first but obviously she was won over because of his tenderness. This book is perfect for a short ride somewhere. Or at the beach. This will definitely entertain you for a few hours.
Her husband dies at their wedding. Now her father has another man she has to marry, a famous rake. Yet there is something about him that is very attractive. The rake finds that he has met a woman that is his equal.
This was a good Regency romance that I enjoyed. It had all the right elements that kept me reading to the end. The characters were strong and the romance was steamy. I wanted to slap them a few times, but it added to the story.
If you are looking for a light read that will keep you hooked, this is one you need to check out.
Note: I purchased this book with my own funds and no expectation of a positive review.
New writer to me but good you will love and enjoy her as much as I have the story is great loved it best love story set in the 1800 best era about a man lost his wife and she lost husband father set them up but things work out you have to read the book it's real good you will enjoy it so get reading and enjoy Margie Moran
An excellent little novella, quick to develop, to evolve, and to burst into bloom. My main complaint? It could have been a full novel. The characters have the potential for even more depth. There are things that could have been even more convoluted. It is fun. I ain't never had too much fun.
A quick read - I enjoyed the cat and mouse build up before Cara and Eliot get together, and the romantic scenes are of course fun to read. There is not much in the way of character development or much of a plot either, but it was a fun quick read. It's kind of what you would expect from a cheesey romance novel.
I'm still not sure what the point of this story is...how did the H/h fall in love, what kind of thrown together HEA was that? Honestly it could have been much better. It really needed 200 more pages to properly build up the characters and flush out an actual story.
I found writing errors and the full relationship between the two characters was lacking something. The book could have been much better with more details.
