Toby Neal was raised on Kauai in Hawaii. She wrote and illustrated her first story at age 5. After initially majoring in journalism, she eventually settled on mental health as a career and loves her work, saying, “I’m endlessly fascinated with people’s stories.”

Toby credits her counseling background in adding depth to her characters–from the villains to Lei Texeira, the courageous and vulnerable heroine in the Lei Crime Series, to the wounds and psychological implications of the heroes of the Scorch Series.

Ask any parent, you raise your kids with the same love and care and they each come out different. Pearl was the family wild child, desperate to leave their tropical island and taste life in the fast lane. She was a dare devil, a rule breaker and it was breaking one of those rules that cost her one of the greatest losses of her life. But it was her guilt and cowardice coming forward that turned her life into an internal living hell. It would take a dark man of extreme self-confidence and natural power to rescue Pearl from herself. But first, they had to meet and moving to Boston with the responsible Ruby was the first step.

Her beauty opens doors to romance and a career as one of the world’s top models, but it is her weakness that may have landed her the heart of the only man who could unlock her inner strength. Brandon is kind, caring and wears his heart on his sleeve. Magnus is larger than life and he has taken Pearl under his wing, given her a sense of self-worth and then he tells her he must “go away.” Will Pearl fall back into her self-destructive habits or will she finally have enough self-respect to forgive herself for past sins and embrace the woman she is becoming.
What a ride, following Pearl as she becomes a model, watching her struggles to take responsibility for herself and her actions and seeing how she handled a lopsided romantic triangle.

Toby Neal is back with the second tale of three sisters, each unique, each trying to spread their wings and each struggling in a new world they were ill-prepared for. Somewhere in the City is both heartbreaking at times and filled with romantic heat and passion. Follow Pearl, a young woman comfortable with her appearance, yet miserable with her insecurities and dark secrets. Magnus, seriously, doesn’t his name say it all? Big guy, big heart and big Harley. Let’s not forget Brandon, the man who opened the modeling world doors for Pearl, a gentleman falling in love. But who is right for Pearl?

Once again, Toby Neal shifts for drama to delight with some heated passion along the way, will Pearl find her happy ending?

I received this copy from Toby Neal in exchange for my honest review.

*** Exciting and romantic - great chemistry between the characters ***

SOMEWHERE IN THE CITY follows the story of Pearl, younger sister to Ruby from "Somewhere on St. Thomas."

Pearl is different than Ruby in temperament, but just as feisty and perhaps even tougher. Her romantic journey is edgier, and the man she chooses will need to match her strength. It's definitely exciting to find out who will win her heart.

As with all Ms. Neal's books, whether she is writing police procedurals with her Lei Crime series, or romance in this "Somewhere" series, the story is the essence, and this one is no different. Highly recommend.

Another great love story for a lazy Sunday afternoon! Although I read this book before "Somewhere on St. Thomas," each novel takes on the persona of its main character - two sisters, Ruby (Somewhere on St. Thomas) and Pearl (Somewhere in the City).

It was great to read this story set in lovely Boston! Toby did a great job contrasting island living from city living. I could feel the breeze on my face during motorcycle therapy! Who wouldn't riding behind Magnus! A young woman goes after what she wants - I won't tell you if she gets it! You'll have to read the book!

Oh, those feisty, romantic, determined, sensuous Michaels' girls all manage to create amazing lives and to find amazing loves. In Somewhere in the City, Pearl is no exception. Hurt and broken, she works hard to let go of her tragic past and begins to celebrate herself enough to open up to an amazing career and to fall in love with Magnus. He is a man equally hurt, broken, and scared of relationships and the feelings his attraction to Pearl creates in him can't be denied, despite his best intentions. He can relate to Pearl's challenges, hurts, and temptations, and he finds something in her that both terrifies and attracts him, ultimately labeled as love. Together, they discover the beautiful healing magic of this emotion. This novel is another great read by Toby Neal as she expands out from her fabulous mysteries and explores the unique new genre of romance novels.

Pearl's story. What a broken girl. She is Ruby's little sister and needs a hand her mom can't help with and sadly things have gone a different way that Ruby and super hot hubby step in to help. Pearl is a bumpy road from the beginning. You can tell she is broken. I am so glad she had the support and help to get straightened out. You kind of don't know what she will do. I am glad she has found the right path and I still love the way this story is going. I again couldn't put this book down.

Nice romance....

I can do without the breathlessness, but the author knows how to write emotions and settings. Will continue reading the next book out of curiosity to see what happens next.

Ruby and Rafe are now in Boston when her younger sister Pearl comes.
She is a troubled, and in a recovery program. She finds even more trouble. Enjoyed of how they adjusted from the island to living in Boston.

Great read! If you love "love stories", you'll love this book. The chemistry between Rafe & Ruby is hot! If you don't like sexual content, this isn't the book for you, but I felt that it added to the story. Their's is a story of true romance!❤ Another great job Toby Neal!
