The road to love for Michael and Natalie has been a treacherous one. Lies and secrets have kept them apart and in darkness. But out of the darkness shines a light on understanding, self-discovery, and forgiveness. Natalie’s sexual awakening teeters on the edge of completion as she and Michael come to fully embrace and understand the bond they truly share.
But their undeniable bond will not come without more tests. Nothing is easy. And nothing seems to be working in their favor. When a secret is revealed that even Michael doesn’t know existed, it seems fate is out of their hands. All of the peace and self-acceptance they have worked so hard towards leaves them right back to the edge of darkness again. Can they find redemption together, or are they doomed to live a life apart forever?
R.B. O’Brien has always been drawn to the more taboo side of storytelling, even as a young adult, from hiding books from strict Catholic parents as a teen to getting lost in the erotic sections of bookstores for hours.
She is best known for her three published erotic romances, Thorne, Edge of Torment and Imogen. But she is now forging a name for herself in the New Adult Romance category as well as poetry, her true passion, Ruin My Lipstick her first of many to come.
Much of O'Brien's work explores the darker, sensual nature of relationships, those riddled with the reality of insecurities and human folly, often exposing the vulnerability, emotional turmoil, and occasional pain that can come from losing oneself in the heat of passion and the obstacles of love.
O'Brien holds a degree in English literature and teaches for a living in the Northeast, USA. She is the founding member of The Nu Romantics, a poet, a professor, a writer, a dancer, and a hopeful romantic known for her poetry prompts on social media. O’Brien also has a profound affection for Shakespeare and beyond that, writes. Every chance she gets.
Good sex like good art never repeats itself. Porn is not sex. Porn is simulated sex. A rubber doll with a microchip can imitate human flesh without human feeling. Porn leaves an emptiness inside. Erotica sets up a vibration in the mind that sends pulsing waves through the body. Porn is about orgasm. Erotica is about suspending orgasm.
It is necessary to understand this in order to write a story in which lovers find deep fulfilment through spanking, bondage, submission and domination. RB O’Brien understands the conventions and weaves them together to bring us an Natalie’s new vision of sexual awakening in Redemption (Natalie's Edge : Book 3).
Kept apart by life’s quotidian maze of secrets and lies, Natalie and Michael discover their true passions, indeed, themselves, in the taboo shadows of BDSM, a journey with riveting, carefully described scenes that, for me, never strays over that invisible line between the erotic and pornographic. O’Brien’s characters are well-developed, the plot has twists that push you on through the pages and you will come away eager for more.
But as the story continued it began to change to this:
I have been reading the romance story of Natalie and Michael from the beginning and I have to say it is one of the best written stories I have ever read. When I received the first book and read the letters BDSM, I naturally thought the book was going to be all about hard core sex. Which don't get me wrong there are some steamy erotic scenes but there is also so much more. If you haven't read this series than you need to, because I know you will fall in love with this couple and cheer them on, as I have.
Part 2 left us hanging, wondering if Michael and Natalie could ever navigate a way to get past their emotional wounds and find true love. They do love each other, but they can't seem to find a way to live together without tripping over one issue after another. We understand Michael now, but he's as maddening as ever, never quite letting Natalie all the way into his life even though he acknowledges that she's The One. Natalie, for her part, continues to be jerked around by Michael's indecision to the point that she's not sure which way is up.
Even as this seems like it's coasting to a conclusion, the author throws one twist after another at us, with the final one making it look as if Michael and Natalie are doomed after all. Will they get past this final hurdle? Can they possibly manage it?
I really enjoyed how this series subverts a raft of BDSM romance conventions, with a submissive heroine who is also a independent businesswoman possessed of a strong spine and a dominant hero who gets himself so tied up in emotional knots at times that it's a wonder he can tie his own shoes. Yet the two of them are clearly meant to be together despite all this, and the author deftly wraps it all up in the end.
Well...Natalie and Michael's story is finally complete. Yes. It's a romance. So yes. Get ready. All loose ends will be tied up (pun intended!). This is BDSM after all but an organic one. No contracts. Just a progression into something between two people that was never more natural or meant to be.
In this last installment, the readers can finally see Michael's story, why he is the way he is, and the empathy that may have been missing towards him before emerges. Over their time apart, he has soul searched and he and Natalie grow to truly understand the BOND of love that so many seek and so many more never find. Sexual submission and dominance was never better matched.
But this last installment has A LOT of tension. A LOT of obstacles. A LOT of twists that you may not have seen coming. And still A LOT of erotic scenes filled with the usual sexual teasing and orgasm denial that Michael is prone to put Natalie through. You will FEEL every emotion just the way Natalie does. My favorite installment in the series as it brings our flawed, round characters full circle!
The conclusion to this series was both romantic and intensely erotic. Natalie and Michael still have secrets to learn about each other before they can come together as a couple. Natalie must face the truth of who she is and what she really wants in her relationship with Michael. There are lots of intensely hot BDSM scenes that are interwoven with genuinely tender and loving encounters between Michael and Natalie. Overall, this is a great book for those who prefer BDSM mixed with great storytelling and believable character development. Loved it!
This was an exciting finish to a series. It has a whirlwind of emotions from beginning to end, with a roller coaster full of ups and downs. Natalie's character becomes even stronger then the previous book. Michael's character becomes more lovable by the end of this book too. It was a pleasure reading about both characters change from book 1 to book 3 for both the god and the bad. The secrets that they both share are still very much a factor in this book as it was before. They learn to open and trust each other as the chapters go by and I am sad to see this series come to an end. There are still so many questions that I have about them that were unanswered, but I am still satisfied with the end result. I hope that all of R.b.'s readers were as happy as I was with the end result. I hope to be reading more from R.b. in the future she has an amazing talent for erotica.
The last book in the series of Natalie's Edge, did not disappoint!! It was another emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end.
Natalie and Michael find themselves having to navigate through more secrets and lies. They both truly love each other and Michael has declared to Natalie that she is "the one". Will it be enough? Will they overcome the secrets and lies? Will Natalie finally embrace who she is? Will Michael finally open his life fully to Natalie and let her in? I won't spoil the story, I promise these questions are answered. However, RB throws in one final twist, that I did not see coming.
As with the other books in this series, the BDSM scenes are intense and arousing but we also experience tender and loving moments between Michael and Natalie. Yet again, RB gives us a further insight in this love story.
This series is one of the best erotic romance stories I have read in a long time. This is a must read and I will be recommending it to everyone!!
Err, I'm so angry with this one, basically the bulk of it was total BS. The manufactured miscommunications, all the drama - they all feel so amateurish and staged. Perhaps it's my fault for trying out new authors who are just starting out. Up till the very end, I cannot feel how Michael is actually in love with Natalie - other then him keep saying 'I love you' that is. I don't think they have a strong base in their relationship either. I think both of them have a serious lack of trust for each other, and just lust and obsession cannot be any solid base for a long-term relationsip, especially a BDSM one in which trust is one crucial element. I'll admit the sex was hot, and orgasm denial is one hot botton for me, but because of their amateurish relationship, I found myself even losing interest in the steamy scenes eventually.
This is a different kind of love story, I was at times so upset with the characters, both loved beyond reason. Not to give anything away but Michael was a very troubled man with dark desires. I stayed with the story and watched it develop into an awesome love . Great writing skills . Thank you R.B. ,I'm starting to read Thorn.
