“Fans of laugh-out-loud romantic suspense will enjoy this author as she joins the ranks of Janet Evanovich, Katie MacAllister, and Jennifer Crusie.”—Booklist Gladie is back with the fourth installment of the hilarious Matchmaker series. Involved on one level or another—hot sex, almost committed, and crying in her pillow—with three men, Gladie distracts herself by giving up on matchmaking and starting a new career. But when Gladie stumbles on body parts of dead baseball players all over town, she’s dragged into solving yet another murder mystery. With her life in chaos and the killer getting closer, Gladie has to come to terms with the fact that love is murder.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
Okay, I admit that I am reading several books at once right now, so they are blurring together a bit. AND I vowed not to read this for a while because I was angry at Gladie for being a big ol' slut. But, I read it anyway, in between the pages of a horrible shifter book that I'm reading. My eyes were rolling so hard during this shifter book that I needed to take a break before they rolled right out of my head. More on that later....
As for this one - this series delivers the funny. Every time. Big points for that.
I can't tell you how long I've waited for this! I just know that it felt like forever. And of course, Elise Sax did not disappoint! She is my go-to author for laughs, romance, and mystery. This is one of my favorite series and favorite cast of characters. They're all back with a few new ones. Lots of laugh out loud moments. Make sure you're alone, so everyone won't think you're nuts! Loved it and can't wait for more.
Yeah!!! I'm done! I'm happy not because reading this one was hard. Happy because it was one great serie and also a quite good ending despite bittersweet. 2 Guys to 1 to 2 to 3 to 2 to 1 that was a lot of math. math meth but nowhere near meh. Agai, I found some relatively wisdoms words from Grandma Zelda. Without spoiling this book, this serie, I'd like to say read all of them in other take your time between each of them. Too much matches, too much busybody, too much men is not good. Absorb the story and wisdoms. This serie would not be forgotten. Another thing, Bridget, I'm lost!!!

Thrilled to have Gladie back stirring up trouble! Playing the Field is a fun romance filled mystery in which the heroine actually shows growth without changing her humorous ways. I highly recommend this so to anyone who enjoys a lighthearted mystery filled with laughs and love.
So the focus in this book is even less on the who-dun-it and is instead all up in Gladie's relationships. And I've had enough... there weren't many funny spots and Gladie's and Sheriff Man Whore's verbal sparring sounds exactly the same each time they go at it. I'm sorry, but the guy "dated" married women and besides having the women get mad at him when they all found out about each other, he never got into any trouble for any of it. It just gave the author an opportunity to push Gladie and him together, because for some stupid reason her room was the only place he could hide (by the way, this was way back in book 2, so I'm not spoiling anything about this book, it's just it still makes me mad and is ensuring I don't ever continue the series)
Gladie the novice matchmaker has romantic problems of her own. Three men in her life is two too many. One who is a great guy and loves her, one who is great in the sack, and one who drives her crazy in a good way. No, she is not cheating on three men. It's complicated and fascinating and you will just have to read about it. But Gladie is also a murder magnet. Everywhere she goes, dead bodies pop up. Gladie's number three is the chief of police and he wants her to stay out of his investigations. She's trying, she really is. She's even trying to get a real job. But the only thing she has been successful at is finding dead bodies and solving murders. And this one is a doozy! Great story.
Field of Screams by Elise Sax is the new release of Playing the Field in the Matchmaker Mysteries series. I originally read this version but my review is the same, Laughter, mystery and hot times are what Gladie is known for and that hasn't changed. It is everything that you expect in an Elise Sax story - laughter, romance and murder. Gladie has to make a lot of decisions in this books and many of those decisions results in disaster but that seems to be her life. I laughed and giggled throughout the book and I sighed at the end. If you have read any of the previous books, you don't want to miss this one.
This was kind of a rock bottom book, especially the first half. Never my favorite ones and this was no exception, though I did enjoy the upswing at the end. It’s still not a very good cozy mystery series, the mysteries too weak (despite the very brutal deaths in all the books so far), the culprits boring in motives, and most characters bad jokes of stereotypes. Most dialogue, especially with the men in Gladie’s life, are stuck on a pre-teen-level. I only read on because I’m curious about how her relationship with her future husband is coming along and just how bad and ridiculous these books are still going to be.
Don't mind the cheesy first run covers of the first few books. I really really like this series. So much so that I've read all 8 books in less then 3 weeks. Don't take it too seriously and you will find yourself laughing several times during each book. I kind of think I'd be just like Gladie if I was a murder solving matchmaker.
Between my hopefully temporary lung issues, my ankle getting shredded and my dad's cancer diagnosis - I've needed an escape from reality and these books could not have been more perfect. I'd hug the author if I could.
Other than quiet a few outrageous moments, this was another good read on the series. I feel like if you were on the fences about the series than this book.might push you over the edge of not liking it because it was a little out there at times. If you love the characters and the books you will stick with it and probably got a few chuckles.
Love Elsie Sax. Her books are laugh out loud funny. I started with the Goodnight series and enjoyed them so much I looked for more and have now finished 4 in the matchmaker series. Her female lead characters are outrageously funny. Reminds me of Jana DeLeons series (Sinful, Mudbug), however, Ms DeLeons additional characters are all hilarious.
Oh I enjoy the series. I enjoy the matchmaker series. However I don’t like it how it turned out with a man that she chose. She had someone who adored her and was good to her and would do anything for her and then she decided she was in love with someone who is an arrogant to it. Doesn’t seem realistic to me but I know it had to be that way because he is in the police force
The first book was good. I love a mystery. The 2nd also. But then the books turned into sex books instead of mysteries. I don’t need that when I’m trying to enjoy a mystery. I’m looking for a new story line now and a new author. What a way to wreck a fun mystery series idea. They started out so hopeful. I give this book a fail.
Pretty good addition to the series. Was not happy about how many guys Glady was stringing along and having a fling with but author finally picked one of them. Not sure how this will work out as he has in past books been a manwhore. I love psychic Grandma Zelda and the matchmakers advice at the beginning of every chapter, lot of humor and crazy town and friends that are regulars in each book.
I devour each book in this series and it never disappoints. Gladie's antics are always good for a laugh and the murders are fun to read about. Relationships have evolved and I look forward to what happens necxt.
Lovely title to every book, I love these books, it makes me laugh out loud. She gets in so much
trouble and how she gets out of it is ingenious. And Spencer is dreamy, Holden is what every woman wants except her. Hopefully, Elise Sax will never stop these books. Shirley
This series is amazing! I love love love it! Though throughout this book the little baseball bats separating the scenes covered up words and drove me a little nuts. But the story was great.
SQUEEE! She did it, she did it. Yeah, it was a big moment I had been waiting for in the series. This series has had me on pins and needles waiting for each installment. I get a HFN so far in every book, but am waiting for the HEA.
I really enjoyed this book! It flowed well and there seemed to be a more natural flow with the characters and how they interacted with each other. Kept me guessing who and why these murders where happening.
Omg how much I love this book series... just take my moneyyyyy .... I am super sad to hear the next book is the last 😭 also I love Spencer .... just read it (also, should read from the beginning)!
Another great book in the Matchmaker Mysteries. A favorite thread running through all the Matchmaker books is the hero saying "Are you kidding me?" It cracks me up every time.
