Kat Nichols was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. The youngest of four children, she'd been known to play for hours with only a cardboard box for entertainment. Her imaginary friends had friends... and family... and even little cities to play in. As she grew older, she began to put some of these stories down on paper, rather than keeping them in her head.
Writing a novel had always been a dream for her, perhaps an item on her bucket list, but it wasn't until she joined a writing group with other aspiring writers that she finally got to work. When not writing, Kat is reading or driving her son to and from practices and wishing she was reading. It depends on the day.
Kat still lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her wonderful husband, their hilarious son and their sometimes adorable and sometimes annoying cat, Ozzie.

While a little slower to start as we caught up to what Sophia was up to since the end of Family Secrets, once the book got into its groove it was action right til the very end!! Lots of intrigue in this one, both with just Sophia and with the supernatural community at large. I really enjoyed Thomas's role at the beginning -- almost wish we could have seen more of his training sessions with Sophia. And as we started to see in this book, there is sooooo much more to learn about the supernatural world in The Secret Societies Collection books. In some ways I'm going to miss learning it from Sophia's perspective, b/c I can't help but feel she has more to offer. I'm sure she'll be making her appearances in the books to come.

LOVED the introduction of the vampires. I felt like the book really picked up its pace at that point and had me on the edge of my seat for most of the rest of the book. Sophia had been struggling through so many of her adversities up til then, and this was our first real glimpse of her lady balls again, and I LOVE ballsy Sophia. Despite her epic nerves and the potential danger, it was soooo like her character to do what she knew to be the right thing for everyone involved. Plus, the vampire families were epically intriguing -- so different from each other, with their own unique "flair".

EVERY TIME Sophia rallied for the right way, I wanted to stand up and cheer!! She still had her share of rash and impulsive decisions, but it was hard not to support them anyways.

I loved having Sydney back -- she was a good counterpart for Sophia. We were introduced to some other interesting characters that I would love to learn more about, since we really only got a taste (most notably Tony and his relationship with Sydney). And of course I want to see more of the vampires.... Sometimes the lack of time spent on the characters was frustrating for me...I think that's a personal taste thing. I love really well developed characters and love learning all about them, and this book was more plot-driven at times.

Like I said, I'm kind of sad to let Sophia go as our narrator...in some ways I feel like she has so much more to say. But at the same time I can't wait to learn more about the world and see where the next books take us (FAE!!!)!!

I love any book where the heroine is a strong determined leader and Kat Nichols delivered just this with Deadly Secrets! New characters, paranormal elements, and action abound in Deadly Secrets. Kat opens many doors where the story can continue and I can't wait to see where she goes with them. Check out this book and take a break from reality - it will do you good!

I like to read about strong characters and not ones that are whiney all the time especially when it comes to female characters. I really liked the way the main character was portrayed in this book. Kat Nichols did an awesome job with description and keeping the reader wanting more. I was kind of disappointed to see the book end, but I am looking forward to reading the next

Great ending to a wonderful story. I enjoyed the second book even better than the first. I'm just sad that it had to end. Can't wait for Kat's next book to come out!

Deadly Secrets is the second instalment in the Secret Societies Collection.

While I enjoyed seeing how the plot unfolded, I felt it skipped along way too fast. I would’ve liked to see it develop a little slower, more naturally, without jumping weeks ahead at a time. I felt like I was missing out on parts of the story. The author could have explored these points more, enriching the tale further to capture the reader.

While Nichols has a good base for an excellent story here, with the vampires (and then the Fae) suddenly popping up out of nowhere, this book paled in comparison to Family Secrets for me. With some polishing and more showing than telling with the witchcraft, this book could be transformed from an okay read to AWESOME!

I would still recommend this series to people who like stories about witches or YA in general.

First off, let me apologize to KN for taking sooooo long in reviewing this book. Secondly, doesn’t this cover just exude attitude?! I love it so much.

Sophia is still so young but her life has had so many obstacles she’s had to deal with. I admire her perserverence and the fact that she doesn’t allow others to try and discount her because of her age. This chic is a fighter! I’m shocked this only has 10 reviews! Seriously?

This book flowed really well for me. There was no complex plots I needed to figure out, cause as we all know, sometimes I’m a bit of a dense reader. I really enjoyed Sophia’s stubborness and her self-awareness. She took the steps she felt were needed to get to where she needed to be. She seems so confident from the outside looking in, but reading about how stressed she is and how she doesn’t know if she can succeed as the newest and youngest matriarch is very realistic to me. Miss Nichols can write internal emotions really well.

Sophia uses her resources and shows incredible courage while doing it. Coupled with her humbleness of her success makes her all the more attractive as an MC to me. I will say this. I was upset about Connor not having a more prominent role in the story. Connor was a great character, but I didn’t get to see as much of him as I wanted too.

This book went deeper into the whole supernatural world than I expected and I was pleasantly surprised that it encompassed more than just witches in this one. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes strong, independant heriones in a great fantasy setting.

This was a good continuation for the series, but i just felt like it was lacking some action..... The book had a slow start , till about 40% through, and that's where the good stuff started happening :) Plus there is a nice little surprise at the end!!!! Looking forward to more!
