"Essence"(r) bestselling author Wahida Clark has got her finger on ghetto pulse. In her series on sisters trying to rise above the streets, she portrays a raw and true-to-life world where love can be just as dangerous as the men who cause it... Angel, Jaz, Tasha, and Kyra are living proof that hope is more than a word. The four girlfriends are pulling themselves out of the ghetto--and trying to bring their hearts up to higher ground with them. But sometimes the past ain't in no mood to let go...
Angel has met the brother of her dreams--after living through a nightmare with Snake. Believing that pimp is dead, Angel has moved on. She's starting her own law practice and a new life with Kaylin, a drug dealer who's stepped outta the game to run a recycling business and a hot new record label.
But the past is never far from Kaylin, and when an unwanted guest crashes their wedding, all the rage and bloodlust from the hood comes bustin' out--and Angel's gonna need every prayer in heaven to make it to the altar.
Wahida Clark was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. She decided to start writing fiction while incarcerated at a women's federal camp in Lexington, KY. Her style is street, raw, and she has an imagination that's in overdrive. When you read her novels they are so real you are convinced of one of three things: that you are inside the book, you know the characters, or you just have to meet them. Her first novel, Thugs And The Women Who Love Them and the sequel, Every Thug Needs A Lady appeared on the Essence Best Sellers List.
Easy read! a look into the main characters' relationship: issues and problems etc...the story was entertaining from first page to the last (paperback!)
Because I fell in love with Trae and Tasha from 'Every Thug Needs A Lady' I must say that it was hard to love it the same with them not being featured as much but it still captured my heart. It was a stepping stone with info and kept the juice going from the other books. Definitely gets better as the series continue and 'Thug Matrimony' was made the series oh so HOT!!
The book that i have read was called Thug Matrimony by,Wahida Clark.the type of book is fiction and the theme is thrive for what is your's. In this particular book it is based on fore main couples.the main character in the book is Angel. She falls in love with a guy who ofcourse is running the game. But thinks that the ne she was nce in love with(Snake)is dead. When really he was poisened and beaten.Anel is letf to think other wise and wastes no time moving on with her life.As the book moves along she turns out to be a entertainment lawyer and she is in the process of getting married to her prince charming.Angel is pregnant during her career. All the while angel is doing her one of her betfriends husbands is in the hospital in acoma state. That also happens to be her husbands best friend. The book is very interesting and exciting as well. One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Angel and her husband Kaylin are argueing. They end up with twin beds in they're bed room .Ofcourse Angel wins since she is the decore planner for they're home.In this case the book was very descriptive. visualizing the scene's were quit easy. And that was because the author made sure to be detailistic.to me the character that was the most vivd was Angel. That was only because she was the main character. In this book i was affected by the lessons' learned by the characters.Which means the lessons that they learned was advice to me.My favorite character was Angel who is the most important in the book. She is the one that goes through the most.Ok so Angel marries a drug dealer. She ends up big time. They have a kid.At the end of the book they live happily ever after with a record deal company owned by the two.Angel is a hard working girl wh deserves a break.unfortunately during the book she kills her sister accidently.Only because of her evil ex(Snake),who brain washed her. i would reccomend this book to a friend or family member who is enterested with the young and exciting books. Most likely teenager's and not little kids. This book could be a good lesson. This book is not a good read aloud for kids.It fit's more of a mature reader.books that i have read that are similar are "Every Thug Needs a Lady",by the same author. If you liked"Thugs and The women who Love them" ,you will love this particular book, because it is related to the same theme. In closing to what i read this book is a good book .With a great sequal.Wahida not only relates to the real world bt she creates character's through an imagination from the world. She brings you through real life situations. And she sow's you things to watch out from.
If you enjoy Urban Lit, Wahida Clark is definitely an author to look out for, she is an awesome writer. Her characters jump off the page. She even has you down for thugs. After all thugs need love too.
The name that i have just finsihed reading is called Thug Matrimony and the book is by wWahida Clark. This is a nonfiction book. The theme of this book is love and hate. This book has 5 main characters Angel, Trae, Snake, Kaylin, and Tasha these characters go through alot throughout there lifetime. Angel was dating Snake for acouple years and then all of a sudden Sanke disspeaprs without telling anybody so Angel waited awhole year for him. After that year she came to the conclusion that he was dead it broke her heart but she knew she had to move on.She was real close to her girls and they made the process easy for her.One day while her and her girls were at the club tasha ran into her secret lover trae. Trae was one of those players but for some reason he was determined to get Tasha and keep her.Tasha wasnt tryna give in but eventually she did and they had 3 kids togethor. Trae was with his friend Kaylin that nigh and the whole night he kept his eye on Angel as they were leaving the club Kaylin nlurted out "im gonna make you my lady red". They exchanged numbers acouple days later and talked ever since. Trae and Kaylin eneded up going to mexico for a drug deal and got locked up for it but beat the charge and from then on Kaylin wanted to marry Angel he didnt wanna spend another day without her. Trae and Tasha got married too.a few months after all this happened KAngel was preparing for there wedding. The day was finally there and Angel got something on her dress wich made here very emotional especially because she was pregnat too so she stopp'd everything and told Kaylin to help her. Kaylin sent it to the dry cleaners and post poned the wedding. meanwhile downstairs they had unexpected visitors Snake came by with a few other men with weapons lookin for Angel. Kaylin found out and call'd off the wedding. Trae ened up getting shot about 4 times and was ina coma. At the end Kaylin rralizes he mess'd up and tried to fix thing but Angel was hurt and didnt want to give in easyy but eventually they got martied and forgot about the whole thing and kill'd Snake. Trae got better and Tasha and him were doing better as always. This book was a good book it showed how no matter what happens in life your loved ones is always gonna be there. This book was fukll of romance, hate, and betrayel. My favorite scne from the book is when Kaylin and Angel went to do there ultrasound even though they were mad at each other they both went togethor and wentt o here thebaby's first heartbeat.A quote from that scene is "baby do you hear it.?" she said "yeah i hear my baby's heart." pg(59) That scene showed how much they really loved each other. This book honestlyy doesnmt affect me because i never went through any of these situation.I think any young teen of my age would enjoy this book becuase these are the type of books we read nowadays.Even some parents although this book doesnt rrlate to me it can probably relate to other readers that live in harsh enviroments. To conlclude this book review i think this book was a good book and taught me you should always cherish what you have because you never know what might happen.
Thug Matrimony was a realistic, juicy read that kept me engaged with the events and characters of the story.
It’s a urban fiction story about a group of friends from the hood, who were in the game, but turned their ways around, but realized very quickly your past don’t always stay in the past.
I liked the character Kaylin because even though he was stubborn, he had a big heart and cared/loved about everybody in his circle. As the story goes on Kaylin developed as a character because he sat back and realized his family needed him to be strong, and to get over his jealousy issues. In the beginning of the book he says, “Oh, I’m getting ready to kill my insecurities right now.” (17) He later said “Come on, Ma, let’s go ahead and get married.” (124) Those two sentences shows that he realized not losing his family was the most important thing to him.
I really enjoyed reading this lifely styled book that made me feel like I was actually in the story. I would recommend this story to people who like reading urban fiction and who can relate to it, because everyone probably wouldn’t understand.
The reason I choose the book "Thug matrimony" is because it is a story about four girlfriends who are pulling themselves out of the ghetto and trying to bring their lovers up to higher ground with them. But sometimes your past will always be in your blood forever. The main characters in this book are Angle and her three best-friends Jaz, Kyra, and Tasha. These girlfriends have been riding together since they were hustling, killing and plotting on how to make stacks of money. These four women are trying to better their lives for their selves and their family. But staying out the game for better or worse is harder than it looks. There is only one thing holding these ladies back from getting to the top and it is their lovers. Let’s first start with Angle who is young women who use to be a prostitute and who has suddenly met her match with her pimp and her first love snake. Soon later she suddenly learns and realizes that her happiness will soon come to an end when he all of a sudden up and disappear on her. She now has to fend for herself and make it on her own. Years past and she starts to believe the man once she was in love with is now dead. Seven years later she falls in love with a man name Kaylin who is a retired drug dealer who stepped out the game to run a record label company. Angel is now currently pregnant and corporate and entertainment attorney. She is ready to walk down the aisle with her new lover Kaylin but before they can ever do that they have to face some unwanted guest who has arrived at their wedding and shouldn’t have. Angel ex-lover snake has showed up and wanted to speak to her and tell her that he is back for good and wants them to try and work things out. But Kaylin is not letting that happen so he asks Angel who do she wants and she doesn’t knows. So Kaylin makes a decision for her so he cuts off the wedding and moves out of the house and act like nothing never happen between him and Angel. Now let’s move to Kyra, she is a recovering drug addict who is trying to better herself and for her daughter. She is currently in school studying to become a psychologist. Kyra is married to her homeboy from back in the day that got her sprung out on drugs and did eight years upstate. Soon after he got out of the pin him and Kyra got clean and moved from Jersey to Cali. Then there’s Jaz who worked in a meth lab for a year and making tons of stacks of money but living off her man Faheem. Jaz and Faheem got married not to long after dating. Few months later they had a beautiful baby girl. A Month later Jaz got caught up for the meth lab she was running in the ATL and was about to do some long hard time, but thanks to her man Faheem he helped his wife her beat the case and not face any time in jail. Last there is Tasha who use to be a hoe since the age of thirteen, to selling dope to hooking up with every drug dealer to settling down with only one who name is Trae. Tasha is a physical therapist and has her own rehab center in Cali. These four ladies have been in the game since they were young and are now trying to get out for the best. This is the book about drug dealers and how they live their lives with no remorse but their women feel very different about it because they want to better their family for the best. This book also relates to some of the people I hang with in different parts of the city and it feels like some days my friends are living the characters’ lives.
My review on thug matrimony. I thought this book was so decent because it was four friends that were real smart and as smart as they were they all ways went for the bad guys. In this book the main characters are Kay and Angel. In this urban book its a life a young lawyer who chose to date a drug dealer because she haven't found that one guy who could replace snake.
Angel Smith is a successful woman who is a lawyer before she was she was snake main girlfriend. For those who didn't know who snake was he was a pimp but Angel loved him regardless. When he and Kaylin was to get married her first love someone she thought was dead showed up asking to see her. Kaylin did not like that at all his girl love coming to see him and even though Angel knew of his past she would marry him anyway because he changed for her and she was in love.
When snake came back the only thing Kaylin could think about was killing him. How dare he come to his wedding uninvited asking to see his bride to be oh hell no something was about to go down and he wouldn't get the last word. While all this conflict was happening his bestfriend Trae life was on the line because he was shot three times and no one knew at the time what was about to go down. When I tell you its going to blow your mind.
Kaylin went down to snake and before any words could be said fist began to be thrown. He was pissed and he believed that Angel wanted snake so his ego was crushed and not only that he would jeopardize the life of his child all because of his ego.
I wont give you the ending away but I just want to let you get a little taste. Have fun and enjoy
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here for the uniting of a talented storyteller and her pen...a match made in heaven.
Here comes the bride, or maybe not. When we last gazed upon Angel and her friends, she had found the man of her dreams and was on the verge of pledging her life to him, BUT another man believes the honor should be his and crashed her wedding setting off a chain of events; event that could mean the difference between life and death. As long as Snake is slithering around, there is no rest and no one is safe.
Sequels usually don't pack the punch of it predecessor, but that is definitely not the case here. Wahida set up another complex, drama filled story, tied up loose story lines from the previous book and gave us some more thug loving. It was wild from the start to finish. THUG MATRIMONY does not disappoint. The only pitfall for me comes in the fact that some of the previous main characters were relegated to supporting roles. I wanted more from Jaz, Tasha and Kyra. I guess more is to come in the next book. Just know this, if the author's name is Wahida Clark and the book's title includes the word "thug," it's gonna be good!
This is the 3rd in a series of 7 and I was taken in by this story as I was by the first and second. I love when my body gets involved with the book because then I know I have some investment in it and it makes reading so much more enjoyable. I was involved and had a difficult time putting the book down when I needed to. I appreciate the rawness of the writing style and following the stories of the main characters and appreciate the nudges I get to remember previous situations that were written about in other books that pertain to what is going on. I will be reading books 4 to 7 and will be expecting the same results.
What can I say, I bought this book at Dollartree. I was totally surprised by how good it was. I didn't want to put this book down. I love Angel and how tough, feisty and badass she really is. Kayleen is a tough, loving, man who wants his woman happy. The sex in this book is off the charts. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
These woman and their men.... oh my I’m sitting on my edge the whole book... it take a lot of self control to not read ahead to see what’s happening... I never want this series to end
So I just finished "Thug Matrimony" and I finally was able to take a breather. This book Definately makes you continue to turn the pages. This is the first book I've ever read by Wahida Clark, and I thought it was pretty good. I hate to read books that are not the first in the series, just because I like to know all the juicy details about all the characters before hand. In caucasian, and I LOVE hood books. I was born in an urban community myself, so reading urban books come naturally to me. I can relate to these books more than any regular fiction book. When I picked this book up in the library, read the flap, I knew this was right down my alley . Usually, I give most hood books 5 stars, UNLESS I'm not digging one of the main characters. In the case of this book, I was not feelin Angel at all. She is the type of female that I would not associate with on the streets. She thinks she's the baddest walkin, when really, theirs women that slay her all day long. I don't mind a female who is egotistical in some books, but Angel thought she was hardcore gangster. It gets under my skin when females try to play that "Bonnie and Clyde" role in real life, just to impress their man. Next thing you know, she goes down, and her man gets out of it. Stupid broads. In this book, Angel is stalked by "Snake" her ex. In the beggining, he crashes hers and Kaylins wedding. Throughout the book, dude is obsessed with Angel. I don't see why. She ain't nothing special. Kaylin was just as egotistical as Angel, so I guess their perfect for each other. I liked Angels homegirls though, but I couldn't stand her little grimey little sister. Sleeping with Angels sloppy seconds and snorting coke off his manhood. Real Classy Carmen. This book was filled with drama from beginning to finish. What pissed me off, is lil E got shot three times in the stomach, meanwhile Angel don't have a clue, and is in the hospital having her baby. If she cared so much about Lil E, then why did she not have protection with Lil E wherever she went? especially knowing Phillip Johnson punk ass had a hit on her head. She was just a child, pregnant with his baby, while Angel stole lil E right under his nose, and signed her to Angel and Kaylin record label. Knowing she was an upcoming star with a hit on her head, Angel should have protected that girl better than she did. Angel did some slick shit. She treated Kaylin like shit for a while, yet he deserved it. Kaylin was acting like any regular thug would, if he thought his soon to be wife still had feelings for her ex. I was tripping when Angel went an seen snake in the end. I was confused, cause I thought she was dedicated to Kaylin. I should have known her sneaky ass was gonna play snake like a fiddle, and she did. She did some hardcore shit to that dude. She poisoned him with oil she rubbed all over her body, an made snake lick all over her, thinking he was gonna get some. That was some slick shit right there. I thought she was going to sleep with snake again, so I was calling her all kinds of names lol. She made snake think he was finally gonna get in them panties again, but she really set his ass up and killed him. The female way. That shit was raw. probably the best scene in the book. I liked Angel a little bit more after that. I'm sure if I read all the other books before this, that I would have a better feel and understanding as to why Angel was the way she was in this book. I thought Kaylin was gonna catch Angel and snake sexing each other, and was waiting on him to put a bullet in both of them. That twist was really good. Kaylin walked in on Angel beating Snakes head in. Angel killed her own sister. I felt no sympathy for Carmen at all. She got what she deserved ol grimey bitch. That's what you get for getting involved in shit you don't know nothing a out. She wanted to be Angel so bad, that she was willing to do anything just to be with snake. Snakes punk ass. Phillip Johnson ass needed to be dealt with too. I liked the la familia. Gave me an insight into the mafia, and I really enjoy books that do that. Another thing I didn't like, was Angel and Kaylin would talk shit about the people they signed to their record label. These rappers and performers are making y'all money, and y'all have the audacity to do some sheisty shit behind their backs? Not cool. Angel needed her ass beat by a female in the book sometimes. Whooping on a dude will get you fucked up, I'm sorry. Trying to play badass to the wrong thug will get you fucked up. Sorry. Overall, this book kept me entertained. The sex scenes got kinda steamy at times, and I enjoyed that. Sometimes, the sex just seemed too unreal for me. Angel giving her husband blue balls is not cool lol. I felt for Kaylin when Angel was doing him like that. Thing is, What if Kaylin knew Angel got fellatio from Snake before she killed him? How would Kaylin react if he knew Snake was sucking on her toes and nipples to poison him? I know it was all part of the plan, but technically, she still cheated on her husband. She left her 5 week old baby with her husbands mother, just so she could go be half a ho and get fellatio and kill her ex. She should have let Kaylin handle that. No man should ever put his hands on a woman, so sometimes it was hard for me when Snake and Kaylin were putting their hands on Carmen and Angel. Even if I hated Angels sister, she still shouldn't have been beat up by a grown ass man. She was 17 years old! Even though I'm not a huge fan of Angel, I still can respect the fact she put her own marriage on the line to save her sister, her blood. She did that all for nothing. Carmen was too far gone on the drugs, and too far gone on Angels ex, and too far gone trying to be angel, that she didn't give a shit that her sister saved her. That's petty. I need to get the other books in this series and read them, so I know what all happened before this. I want to read the part about Angel and Snake meeting and falling in love. Theirs so many things I missed, but I still enjoyed this book. Wasn't my favorite by any means, but the drama just kept coming. I would give a better rating if I would have liked Angel better. Like I said, if I knew Angels whole story, then maybe I would have "dug" her a but more. I give this book 3 stars. Could have been 4 if Angel wasn't so egotistical. I never felt bad for her not even one time during this book. It gets 3 for effort though. I love hood books. I will do time to search for more books by Wahida.
I like that Rev. Run (Joseph DJ. RUN Simmons) had been "INCORPORATED" into the series as a guest character who officiates Kay & Angel's wedding. I was confused by Kaylin's cousin Kyron who was written as a Cousin from PR in this book, but was an entirely different character with the same name in books 4-7 (Kyron Santos was written as Kaylin's older, similarly description Brother from book 4 and beyond). Kaylin was acting a complete fool by blaming Angel for her ex fiancé pimp Snake showing up as if Angel, whose character annoys me just for seemingly behaving as if she was better than her sister and friends in the entire series, invited him to cause them problems at the event! Kay CHOKED UP HIS PREGNANT FIANCEE' which made me HATE HIS CHARACTER1 Trae had been shot but readers didn't find out what occurred that resulted in his being shot in an elevator. TASHA PROVED THAT SHE REALLY WAS ABOUT THAT WIFE LIFE BY STANDING BY HER HUSBAND WHEN HE NEEDED HER. Incidentally, THIS WAS THE LAST BOOK WHERE I LIKED TRAE AND TASHA TOGETHER IN THE SERIES. ALL BOOKS AFTER THIS ONE MADE ME ANTI-TRAE WITH TASHA THERAFTERWARDS! IT MADE ME WISH THAT WC WOULD HAVE JUST KILLED OFF TRAE IN THIS BOOK GIVEN SHE HAD CHANGED BOTH HE & TASHA FOR THE WORST BOOKS 4 & BEYOND!
sooo this book is good as hell. wahida be doing her damn thing with these series. trae and tasha use to be my favorite couple but now its angel and kaylin just because of all the amount of stuff that they have been through in the book and all the stuff they overcame. i love it. it doesnt really focus on jaz and faheem too much in this book. kaylin and trae want out the game and want to stay out but for some odd reason something else is always coming up to keep them from actually retiring from the game. the don's included. so im ready to read the next enstall of the thug series !
I have come to the realization that I hate back and forth love stories. In the beginning, it was a lot of break up to make up between Angel and Kaylin. But the story was nonstop action from beginning to end. Let me see what Tasha and Trae talking bout in Book 4
This book was very busy and it was hard to follow all of the characters.... it was hard to read... i read the first two books of the series in a day but it took me way much loner to read this one. Moving right along to book 4 and i hope it is as good as book 1 and 2.
I literally could not put this book down . I neglected all my favorite tv shows everything staying up late just reading this amazon jaw dropping book . A MUST READ!!!!
