Haunted by Death, Amelia's dreams feel ever so real with each passing night. Plagued by the sense of palpable fear, she continues forward with the demands of life at the forefront.
Death had been searching for just the right person that could help him regain his powers. After hundreds of years it seemed all hope was lost as those that died were now stuck in Limbo, forever suffering in pain and anguish. A ray of light appeared as a vision from a stranger led Death to Amelia, though making her a willing participant would prove to be difficult.
An endearing and supportive husband is something every woman would dream of and something Amelia has been blessed with, although nothing could have prepared them for what was about to take place. Their lives were turned upside down in the blink of an eye and their outlook of life, and death, forever changed.
A battle with Death can make one question even their most righteous desires, despite the fact that a common enemy had brought them together. Can Amelia ever find solace with her new knowledge or would death be the only thing that will bring her peace?
Journey on both sides of the veil as Amelia helps battle an evil that threatens to take away all that she has ever known and loved.
Alicia Rivoli was born and raised in a small town in Idaho. She grew up riding horses and helping on the family farm and ranch. She lived in the beautiful Ozark Mountains until recently moving to the Atlanta Georgia area. She discovered her love of books as a teenager, but didn't start reading for fun until she was married. Alicia is obsessed with all things Regency. She received the inspiration for her own stories in a dream and through an active imagination. She is a stay at home mom with two handsome boys and an amazing husband who helped her dream of being an author come true.
I love having author friends! I know a little bit of the "themselves" they put into each of their books, and they inspire me to not shy away from hard things.
This is Alicia's third book, and I've seen her grow as an author a little bit more with each one.
Whispers of Death is an original story about the power of love, strength of families, and how that power and strength within a family will always win out in the end over fear and discouragement. I was anxious to get to the end to see how it was going to work out, and I wasn't disappointed!
Keep up the great work Alicia! I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next!
There is nothing better than sitting down with a book, getting to know the characters and hopefully be transported into the world of the book. This is exactly what happened when I read Whispers of Death! The feeling of deaths cold touch, the pain of the souls left to wander in limbo, that ever present struggle of doing what we know we should do even though it may be difficult.
The individual characters made the book for me. I felt I could relate to them. I loved Death the most, who he was and what he became. I have never really looked at death from the perspective that he brings peace, or hope. Amelia I think is like most of us, fearful of so much, but filled with the desire to lift and help others. Loved that love is such a powerful force, thinking and believing we are powerful enough to stand and defend/fight for those we love!
Whispers of Death delivers vivid imagery, allowing characters, settings and feelings to come to life. In the end I feel connected to Amelia and her family and a desire to read more! Well done!
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The book has a good plot, interesting turn of events. It is fast-paced and easy to read (always a plus for me). Nice writing style, nice characters.
What I did not like was the unbelievable perfect family. Their constant happiness and ever-perfect love, patience, understanding and taking things basically in their stride were all a bit far-fetched.
This book was honestly one of the best horror books I have ever read, this book is just so raw & can be emotional to some certain readers, in a good way. Even though this book is considered to be in the supernatural realm, it still feels like it has a sense of what reality is like, minus the Grim Reaper and the multi realms in the book. The main character Amelia is very built up character, as you read more about her, you can easily picture her right in your head. Also, you can already tell from the beginning of the book that she values her family very much. The author did a wonderful job of making a character that seems real, but at the same time a little bit of a cliche. One thing that threw me off a little bit was when she learned more about the Grim Reaper who kept on appearing in her dreams. Like, she learned more about the Grim Reaper when some random man who's wife died talked to her about it. She literally just walked with a man who she should have assumed was in denial of his wife's death, but she didn't She just went on with her day and assumed he wasn't crazy like her. But, of course that was just a small detail that didn't make sense to me, the rest of the book was amazing. I recommend this book to people who like horror and suspense books.
It's funny how everything could be so normal one day and change the next. For Amelia and her family, things are about to change. Death has come for Amelia. She refuses him at first out of fear but then Amelia starts to sees other dead people around her. There is something wrong with their expressions. Instead of being at peace they look like they are in agony. Amelia refuses and refuses to go with Death, because she thinks that he is here for her life. Until finally she can't put him off any longer. She takes a chance to see what Death wants. And he tells her that he needs help recovering his most coveted weapon. Amelia again refuses, until Death takes matters into his own hands to force her to aid him in hunting the thing that took his treasure. But will they succeed in getting it back? And right the wrongs committed by the sinister force who stole it in the first place? And will the deal between Death and Amelia be met? Will Death return her to her family? or will he take her anyway? What will Amelia's family do then? Little Abigail, Little Hunter, and her husband Mark, and all her other loved ones.
Every time I read one of Alicia's books I'm amazed by her unique take on things. Her world building is phenomenal! Really. This story was no different. I could easily visualize her setting and that enriched the story for me.
Rivoli's take on Death, his purpose and how he feels about those he collects was wonderfully refreshing. I loved how she tied his job to many other worlds, not just earth, and how each saw him a little differently. He was my favorite character and I felt the most developed.
Many times I felt we were only scraping the surface of the other characters. I wanted more from them. Their emotions were often the same thing over and over and I wanted Rivoli to dig deeper and make me feel what they were feeling.
All in all, I enjoyed this book and loved the plot.
This is not Alicia's normal realm of fantasy books that she writes. There are no dragons or wizards, but there is the Grim Reaper aka Death who is the protagonist who upsets the life of the heroine and that of her family. To say too much would be giving the plot away. I felt as if perhaps Alicia has had a personal experience that she has melded into this book. It is intriguing, unusual and not in the least what I expected. All-in-all it is a VERY interesting read and I look forward to her writing more books that are directed toward an adult audience.
This book took me a while to read. When I first read the synopsis, I was pretty intrigued but as soon as I started reading, it didn't exactly hook me into craving it. It would've helped if I got more from the characters instead of repetitive emotions, especially with Amelia.
I give it 4 stars instead of anything lower because of the creativity of the book. The characters, especially Death and Fear, was something I've never seen in a book. I also like the struggle of Amelia fighting for her own family as well as for other families. I would definitely be interested to read more from Alicia in the future.
I love Alicia's imagination and heartfelt story telling. I loved this story and the main character's journey of finding her inner strength and and joy as she learns to fight fear with the love of her family. Truly beautiful and well worth reading.
I like that "Death" was a character in this book. I enjoyed the story as well. This is another new author for me and I enjoyed the book. I love to find new authors to read the book and decide what I think. I think this author will write many more books and I will read more of them. This book was captivating and I enjoyed the way the author writers. I like her view on death, it is exciting and kept me reading more. This story was told well. * I received this book from the author---this is my honest review*
