Tennessee Thunder Football #2

Bluffed by the Offense

Rate this book
He's used to calling the plays. She's the blitz he didn't see coming.

Tennessee Thunder's star quarterback, Marcus Delaney, has spent his career staying one step ahead of the competition. On the field, he thrives under pressure. Off the field? The only person who consistently throws him off his game is Cass Carter.

Competent, loyal, and organized, Cass is the woman everyone in Waterford counts on when something has to get done. She has no patience for Marcus's brand of confidence. He's bossy, presumptuous, and far too impressed with himself—or at least that's how he acts whenever she's around.

Between wedding preparations, a community fundraiser, and a town determined to turn every awkward encounter into headline-worthy gossip, Marcus and Cass can't seem to avoid each other. One harmless misunderstanding snowballs into a fake relationship neither of them want.

They’ll survive fake dating … as long as they don’t kill each other first.

Bluffed by the Offense is an enemies-to-lovers, fake dating romcom, and the second standalone book in the Tennessee Thunder Football series. This story is a closed-door romance with kisses that will have your heart doing a touchdown dance.

Bluffed by the Offense by Savannah Scott is my new favorite enemies-to lovers romance stories. It was a touchdown plus extra point for me. Cass Carter has a big heart for everyone in her small town and can share football facts, stats, and tips better than anyone. Her only problem is Tennessee Thunder’s quarterback, Marcus Delaney. In her mind Marcus is bossy, arrogant, and someone she tries desperately to avoid. But what if they both are wrong in their first impressions?

Oh, my stars I loved this one! Cass and Marcus are my new favorite couple with their amazing chemistry, banter, and magnificent romantic tension. Their clashes were legendary and when they started fake dating and covertly falling in love, I began turning the pages even faster. The themes of second chances, forgiveness, and looking beyond first impressions resonated with me. The dual POV, small town setting, and humor helped me to be very invested in this wonderful story.

I adored Bluffed by the Offense by Savannah Scott! The relatable characters, sizzling clean romance, and delightful humor had me reading after the sun went down on the beach. I very highly recommend and this will be a top read for me in 2026! Don’t miss this story!

Bluffed by the Offense is here, and oh my. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. This is the second book in the Tennessee Thunder series by Savannah Scott, and I can’t begin to tell you how fun this story is. I was already intrigued by Cass and Marcus based on their interactions in book one, but oh boy, this was so much more than I anticipated!

You know those “enemies to lovers” books where one of the characters is acting secretly pining while hiding behind that “enemy” mask? This is NOT that. While it’s true they were originally attracted to one another, as soon as words were exchanged and they had their first interaction, that changed lickety split. They truly could not stand one another, even if they were both trying to be nice for the sake of her sister and his friend.

Then came the “meet cute” that was neither a true meet, nor cute in the slightest. That was closely followed by a photo of them going viral and the pair being coerced into a fake dating scheme neither wants.

The forced proximity, the banter and chemistry that started to sizzle a little more than they bargained for, and suddenly the blinders start getting removed so they can truly see one another for who they are.

This was a slow burn of the most delicious and fun way, leading to a very well earned happily ever after. Grab your copy so you can dive into the mind of the Thunder’s QB and the football stat queen and watch as they mangle their way to a happily ever after.

I was given a complimentary copy of the book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cass and Marcus’s banter-filled, fake dating, enemies to more story is so fun and sweet! Loved their back and forth, the tension, the meddling, and both of their slow falls. More of the Thunder football teammate dynamics is such a treat, too.

••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

~He’s used to calling the plays.
She’s the blitz he didn’t see coming…

-Ok my friends, I am here to say I really enjoy The Tennessee Thunder Football Series by @savannahscott_author. Just when I thought book one, Tangled With The Tight End, was my new favorite book out, I was even more delighted with book 2, Bluffed by Offense! This delightful sports romcom is filled so wonderfully with forced proximity, sparking chemistry, witty banter and humor , moments that made me laugh, swoon, and sigh so many times! I greatly appreciated that there was no spice! What I loved most about this story was the slowly built romance along the way that wasn’t at all part of the plan. Granted, Enemies to Lovers is one of my favorites, and oh man, does this story deliver! It felt like a refreshed, real, and believable true story. Watching it unfold was so satisfying and where things go had my full attention and heart! It’s when the built up layers of misunderstanding start to come away, to be seen and belong is at the center of the heart. Watching characters choose to see, protect and hold onto such truths was endearing. Seeing one for who they beautifully are, mattered so greatly, and made difference for the better! I best recommend reading this series in order, to fully love the characters and the goodness within! What a delightful story!🏈📚😍

•Content: No language, no violence, sports-football, fake dating/fake scheming of sorts, awkward situations, harmless misunderstandings, some feelings of genuine frustration and irritation, kisses only. No spice!

Cass Carter saw a video clip showing quarterback Marcus Delaney not shaking the hand of his team’s opponent after a game. She chose to believe that he was a spoiled sport and after interacting with him a few times continued to have small incidents support her presumption. But, what if she was wrong, and would she give him a chance to prove that he wasn’t that type of guy?

Cass and Marcus act like two cats spitting and fighting with one another. The photo shoot where they have to act like they care for one another is funny as they whisper barbs in each other's ears during close up shots. They both have big, generous hearts, and they become a dynamic duo in helping others once they let down their guards.

Tropes and Tidbits:
enemies to love
Cass’s football insights
Porch Light Project
football team members
Cass's and Marcus’s families
fighting over the bill
grand gesture

I have come to expect funny situations and one-liners from Ms. Scott, and this romantic comedy does all of that. There is witty banter, but also fake dating, nicknames, and embarrassing moments. If you are a reader who likes clean romantic comedy, consider reading this book. It is the second book in the Tennessee Thunder Football series that has characters from other books in it. It can be read as a standalone, but it sure is fun to see people from past books be a part of this story too.

I loved this one from the start! The enemies to more banter and tension was wonderful!

Cass and Marcus had some great banter and I loved her frostiness towards Marcus. The photoshoot scene was fantastic. They seemed to dislike each other so much but there was that underlying attraction they didn't even seem to notice but everyone else did. I have never read an enemies to more rom com quite so well executed in that aspect. And I really loved how the reader could tell there was attraction there but they author let the characters realize it slowly. There dislike for each other grew that underlying tension so well. They were such great enemies. They just couldn't get along and that made for some funny moments throughout the book! And their fake dates and competition to see which would break first was perfect! Lines just kept getting blurred! Cass was so fun and independent and Marcus was charming and dedicated. They made such a cute couple! Such a great dynamic.

I loved Marcus and Cass's relationship and friendship and how well they saw each other and who they were. They clicked so well once they finally let each other accept their feelings.

The pacing was great. I loved how the author used the enemies to more and fake dating tropes .Those tropes played so well into the growth of their relationship. And I loved all the Dolly Parton references. What a great tribute to her!

What a delight of a story! This is a true enemies to lovers setup, with the main characters forced into a situation not of their choosing. Their interaction on the gala dance floor early on in their fake dating had me cracking up!

I think some of the reasons this story really worked for me was the way these two acknowledged (to us as the readers) that they did view each other as attractive initially. However, with the way their first interactions had gone awry and the way Cass, especially, viewed things from a skewed perspective after that, the truth that they were physically each other's "type" definitely did not make up for the frustration of interacting with each other.

I loved the way things began to slowly change for them and the moments when Cass began to realize how she had misjudged Marcus. The true friendship that grew between them and the way Cass was the one who could really help Marcus when he was struggling with the stress of a bad game was sweet.

This story is another great addition to a wonderful series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, however, I also purchased my own print copy.

If you haven't read Savannah Scott's books yet, you are missing out! All of her books make me laugh, they make me feel. She is one of my very favorite authors.

I loved how she did this book. It's an enemies to lovers. And it's such a great one. At the beginning Marcus and Cass really hate each other. These two have such huge animosity for each other. To the point that Cass's sister and her fiancé know that they need to do something to help the two of them at least tolerate each other or their wedding will be ruined.

There are so many situations in this one that made me laugh. I loved how Marcus and Cass are set up in a blind date photo shoot. Because they know each other. And they had to work hard to seem like they like each other for the camera, even while they're saying mean things to each other.

I loved the way Cass works so hard to help other people. She's set up a foundation to help those in need. She didn't want Marcus to be anywhere near it, but that's not how things worked out. And it seemed like he tried to take everything over.

Marcus is kind of misunderstood by Cass, at least in my opinion. He's really a nice guy and he's had to overcome a lot. I love the way he grows on Cass, little by little, with every interaction.

This book is just so great! I didn't want to stop reading it.

"I don't have time to meet a good woman. Instead I am fake dating my enemy."

I am SUCH a fan. Not only of the author and her writing style, although I am that as well, but this book! I have always enjoyed reading enemies to more, but this book is next level. It had me snort laughing, highlighting half of the book, and reading way too late. Not only that, but the sweet relationship between the FMC and her twin, a friend group that you just want to live by, (and are familiar with from other books) and a football team that are as supportive as they are hilarious. Their text threads- no comparison.

You have a feisty FMC that is used to being in charge and is good at it. She is competent and confident- not to mention beautiful. She is a big time football fan; she can spout off any players stats at will, especially for her favorite team, the local
Tennessee Thunder. All but the QB- they have met before and she didn't appreciate how he acted- like he was in charge. Plus, he's gorgeous and knows it. How could he not. Adoring fans everywhere he goes- ugh.

Sometimes though, you think you know a person until you find out the real story. Then it's hard to accept the new version because it means you were wrong and that you might have to admit it.

Add in a mutually beneficial fake relationship that just keeps going, feelings that are acting like they are real, and close friends that can see what you can't. You have fireworks from the intense banter, a very slow-burn blossoming romance, and a town and team that you really cheer for.

I received an ebook from the author for my opinion. A positive review was not expected.

Sometimes with enemies to love, you start reading and it's pretty clear that the characters aren't actually enemies at all... they're more like slight annoyances to lovers. Let me tell you, this is NOT one of those stories... There was attraction, sure, but Marcus and Cass truly felt like true enemies right from the start. They got off on the wrong foot and those early impressions shaped the way they looked at every interaction from that point... that is until a stranger photo shoot and a fake dating scheme had them seeing each other in a different light and that fire that we see in their disagreements starts to look a lot like chemistry... and I was absolutely here for it. Whether they were fighting or just fighting feelings, these two kept me intrigued right through to the end. Two books in and I am already hooked on Tennessee Thunder Football and cannot wait for the next book!

Bluffed by the Offense is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is the second book in the Tennessee Thunder Football series but could probably be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

Marcus, star quarterback and Cass, office manager can't stand each other. When the need arises to fake date each other for mutual gain (Marcus to improve his public image and Cass to gain advertising for her project), the two are thrown right into the deep end.

And what fun it is! Ya'll know how much I adore the fake dating trope and with such dislike between the two, it makes the tension all that more delicious. By the end of the book, it was easy to see how the two had matured and really seen the other for what they were. The story was written so well and now that I've enjoyed book two in the series (they can be read as stand alone), I will for sure be going back to read book one next. I'm really looking forward to the next installment in this series.

• Fighting over the check
• News show
• Locked in a storage container

• Cooking mishap

This story was so much fun to read! The banter between these two was the best!

I loved getting to see how their mutual hate for each other changed to strong feelings of love. Watching Cass and Marcus interact and getting to see how and why their feelings change was so wonderful.

Enemies to Lovers has a new couple vying to be the best! Marcus and Cass play very wicked(in a good way)games in this second book in the Savannah Scott football series! Their heated banter is next level and they do like to one-up each other. I love how they both are caring, giving, selfless people despite their animosity towards each other. When they are in a scene together, they are definitely the sole focus!

Most of this book is funny, but I got really tired of Cass telling us how awful Marcus was. It went on for well over half of the book. It was hard to get to know Cass when her whole personality was about Marcus's selfishness. Marcus didn't like Cass the whole time, but he got to be other things besides that. The rest of the time, though, we got funny scenes and interesting charity work and visits with previous characters.

This book was so fun. This is only the second book I’ve read by this author but I am loving her books and way of writing characters. Cass and Marcus did not get off on the right foot, but their hilarious back and forth while they got to know each other was very entertaining. This football/fake dating/hate to love/small town romance was lovely. I adore these characters and can’t wait to visit Waterford again. Five stars

This is the second book in the Tennessee Thunder Football series. It can be read as a standalone, but would be most enjoyed if you read the whole series as the characters crossover and lets be honest, this series and author is amazing!

In this story you get Marcus Delaney, the confident star quarterback and Cass Carter, a football enthusiast and the girl everyone can count on. One harmless misunderstanding throws this couple into a fake relationship neither of them want. This enemies to lovers story is a real and true ENEMIES story. I kept wondering if they were ever going to stop with the hating. It will have you laughing out loud, wanting to scream at Cass and Marcus to love each other already, and not being able to stop reading until you find out what happens. Do they finally get their HEA? Yes, but will you read this story wondering if it WILL actually happen? Also, yes!

I finished reading Tangled with a Tight End and couldn't wait to devour this one! Savannah Scott is an author that sucks you in from the first chapter. The forced proximity, witty banter, and slow-burn romance, had me hooked! I feel like I'm so invested in this football team and what will happen with Jaxon and Syd in the next book.

Thanks to the author for my gifted copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Quotes:
"That accent will be the death of me. It's like a lure on the end of a fish hook, drawing me in so I'll get stabbed and snared by the invisible hook."

"When we're out, she's my queen. No one gets between us."

"Kisses like this would be mine for the taking."

"Because I know what I want. And I want you."

"You are beautiful. But your heart? That's the most beautiful part of you."

This was a lot of fun! I was so excited to read Marcus and Cass’s story and it was so good
I loved Cass's spirit! She had pretty strong opinions, but was also such a warm person. Cass was full of life, but was more the practical one, especially compared to her sister. She did not consider herself a romantic and definitely had a stubborn streak. But Cass cared deeply about people and truly wanted to help others. She and Marcus clashed at multiple turns, but they had similar passions.
Marcus was just as passionate, stubborn, and tender-hearted as Cass. He was a perfectionist and dedicated to his role as quarterback. I admired his dedication and how he cared for people. I loved his care for his family especially and how he was there for them.
Marcus and Cass definitely got off on the wrong foot, but I loved their banter. They could handle each other and push one another. As they were forced together, both saw the depth in the other. They had a lot of similarities between their passion for football, for charity and their stubborn determination. Their dynamic gave me a little Pride and Prejudice vibes which is so fun. They had to get over some of their own assumptions, but their push and pull was part of their relationship.
I adored returning to Tennessee and seeing all the characters again. The football team is so fun and I loved how they teased and supported each other. Cass and Winona were the sweetest sisters! I always love sister relationships and theirs is so special. They were each other's support and encouragement, even with their many differences. I am so excited to continue this series and read more. This is a sweet sports romance with only kisses.
I received an ARC.

This is the second book in the Tennessee Thunder Football series. And while it can be read as a standalone, you are going to want to read the series as the characters cross over - and it's just a great series!

This is a true enemies to lovers story. While there was a touch of attraction, Marcus and Cass truly disliked each other and loved to poke one another. Cass held onto a bad first impression of him and Marcus let it rankle him that she called him bossy and controlling. There were times that I wondered how the story was going to turn around and have them start liking each other because of how adamant they were of their dislike. However, turn around they did and we get a HEA.

After reading Tangled with the Tight End, I've been excited for this book release. I love that Savannah Scott is able to write books that has me laughing out loud one minute and on my way to swooning the next. This is why she is an auto-read author for me.

I really did like the progression of Cass and Marcus' relationship. I loved their banter and that it really never stopped. I loved that even when they didn't like each other, they reluctantly acknowledge to themselves the attraction they had for the other which (I believe) led to their feelings slowly changing.

I'm excited for the next book that will feature Jaxon and Syd. I'm also crossing my fingers that Treyvon will get a book.

I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Quotes:
"I'll be more discreet than Dolly Parton's plastic surgeon."

"He makes me madder than the devil at a baptism."

"I've got you."

"I turn to take one look at her and a single word consumes my thoughts: mine."

Let me start by saying, prior to this book, I had never read a sports romance book before. It wasn’t really my chosen genre. But I had the opportunity to be part of the advanced reader copy team for this book, so I thought, why not? And I’ll just say, I get it now.

This book was so much fun to read! I’ve actually read it more than once since I got the copy. Enemies to lovers combined with a fake relationship, all set in a small town that hosts the practice facility of a professional football team, it was just pure perfection! There is so much good banter in this book, and the romantic tension is unparalleled. And the fact that their first interaction that we read (in this book, they actually met in the previous book in the series) is at a strangers couples photo shoot?? It was the perfect scenario to set up this whole situation. And the close, funny, but healthy relationships of the teammates is so awesome to see.

I now totally see the appeal of the sports romance, genre, and will now be going back to read the first book in this series: Tangled with the Tight End, and I’m looking forward to the third book that comes out in January 2027.

I was gifted a digital copy of this book by the author but the opinions in this review are absolutely my own.

Marcus and Cass got off on the wrong foot. The two can’t stand each other. Somewhere along the way Cass is enlisted to help boost Marcus’s public image as the star quarterback for the local team. Can her love for the sport outweigh how much she despises Marcus? Can Marcus handle a woman whose stare can make a grown man want to cry?

What I loved:
🏈 The football players. Their group texts had me laughing
🏈Marcus is genuinely a good man and so misjudged by Cass. I love how he slowly breaks her defenses
🏈Cass is quick witted, smart, and super kind (except toward Marcus)
🏈The banter, the chemistry, the realization that the two actually like to bicker.
🏈Winona-getting to see her in another story a bit more was like visiting with an old friend.

Another Tennessee Thunder football player finds love! This series has brought me so much joy. Marcus and Cass have chemistry that is absolutely off the charts. Everyone sees it but them. They both are stubborn and it takes them quite awhile to see what is so obvious to everyone else. It was fun to watch everything unfold. There’s moments that will make you laugh, tug on your heart strings, make you want to give the characters a little shake, and make you swoon. Another winner!! You’ll want to add this to your TBR. Better yet, ignore that giant stack of books and read this next.

I couldn't put this down! Cass and Marcus are delicious together! I loved the rivalry, the tension, the games! Marcus Delaney meets his match in Cass Carter (𝘊𝘢𝘩𝘩𝘵𝘶𝘩𝘩, the way his southern Mississippi drawl says her name!) It’s a fake dating scenario with enemies-to-lovers dynamic and I'm obsessed! The heated banter, the looks, the touches, alllll of it when they despise each other! Sign me up! This story had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn't wait to see how it ended! I'm loving this Tennessee Thunder Football series! If you're looking for closed-door football romcoms this season, these books are a touch down!

4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bluffed by the Offense by Savannah Scott is such a fun, breezy sports romance!

Marcus Delaney—the star quarterback for the Tennessee Thunder—can handle any pressure on the field, but he completely loses his composure around Cass Carter. Cass is ultra-capable, organized, and has zero patience for Marcus's overconfident, bossy attitude. When a small misunderstanding at a community event snowballs into full-blown town gossip, they end up forced into a fake relationship neither of them expected.

The banter between these two is fantastic. Watching Marcus's swagger crumble around Cass while she tries to keep him at arm's length makes the enemies-to-lovers dynamic so entertaining. As a closed-door romance, it keeps things clean while still serving up plenty of swoon-worthy chemistry.

Overall it’s a super cute, fast-paced read with incredible heart. Perfect for anyone who loves sports rom-coms with strong heroines and cocky-yet-sweet quarterbacks!

An enemies to lovers, fake-dating, sports romcom with some of the best banter I’ve read. This was my first read that included a blind date photoshoot and it started the book off to a great start.

Cass is very stubborn and bossy with one person in particular but the sweetest and caring woman. Having met Declan in Tangled with the Tight End during a Thanksgiving meal, the two do not get off on the right path. She thinks he’s bossy and controlling.

Declan is the QB for the Tennessee Thunder football team and as the oldest of five plus the leader of his team, he tends to take control of situations instead of allowing chaos to ensue. He can’t seem to understand why Cass hates him so much and so he gives it right back to her.

When the two are set up for a bland date photoshoot benefiting the team and children, the banter begins again. When it goes viral, Declan is asked by his PR team to continue what looks like a perfect match.

Top Tier Enemies to Lovers

I received a voluntary early ebook. All thoughts are my own.

Finally an enemies to lovers trope where while the two are attracted to each other they cannot stand each other! The beginning of Cass and Marcus’ relationship really made me question if they would end up together.

But I didn’t need to worry. The slow burn of them questioning their thoughts and feelings over the book was delicious. It felt natutal, believable, and was satisfying. Their banter and quick quips had me smiling like a fool.

I could really feel how they became friends and wanted to lean on each other over the course of the book. I really really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next Savannah Scott book!

Bluffed by the Offense is the second book in Savannah Scott's Tennessee Thunder football focused series and it is a touchdown from the very first chapter!

These enemies have legitimate animosity right from the start having got off on the wrong foot with incorrect impressions of one another. Marcus and Cass' clashes were legendary. One of my favourite scenes was the photo shoot where they have to act like they care for one another but are actually whispering barbs in each other's ears during the close up shots. As usual Scott has written a book with amazing chemistry, banter, and just the right amount of romantic tension.

If you love themes of second chances, forgiveness, and looking beyond first impressions read Bluffed by the Offense.
