To what lengths must one go to survive in a subterranean bunker as the apocalypse rages outside? For months, Peter Marikos' elegantly constructed bunker acted as a haven for his small group of survivors, but living behind the sealed doors for so long can drive anyone mad.
Descriptive Apocalyptic/doomsday scenario. I felt like I was in doomsday prepper 101 but I find learning survival strategies/living off the grid interesting. Twist in the book kept me engaged with an unexpected ending. Reminder of the power of our minds, what it entails to be human, and the need for human interaction. I would recommend this book.
The Bunker is a tight little novella that grabs your attention quickly and keeps it, as the reader unravels what has happened within the walls of this bunker, what was supposedly a safe place during an apocalyptic event, now has a dead man inside. A growing mistrust of the purveyor of the bunker makes for an interesting and brisk read that doesn't overstay its welcome, unlike some of the survivors.
Dark, violent, and psychologically complex, The Bunker is a fast-paced novella that demands your attention to the bitter end. Author Garrett Moe effectively distills the isolation and paranoia of the best Cold War-era speculative fiction and uses shifting POV narration to keep reads intrigued and engaged. The Bunker reads like a lost episode of The Twilight Zone, but with modern sensibilities and an uncanny knack for gore. If any of this rings true for you, I highly recommend giving The Bunker a read. Just don't expect to put it down until you're finished.
