“Welcome to the Overflow. And remember, all roads lead back to Lakehurst.” At the edge of a ruined town, a burned-out hospital houses one final, functional ward. There, a small group of doctors and nurses tend to patients who have been consigned to the Overflow. Unloved, forgotten by the people who knew them, these are the patients who will never receive visitors. If something happens to them, no-one will ask questions. When she starts work at Middleford Cross, Nurse Elly Blackstock thinks she's getting a second chance. She soon discovers, however, that this particular hospital is unlike any other. In one of the beds, an old man grapples with the horrors of his past, while in another there's a woman condemned to a life of darkness and silence. Ghosts stalk the corridors, and more ghosts are on the way. And watching over all of this is the hospital's administrator, Nurse Kirsten Winter, a woman who is desperately searching for someone named Annie Radford... Meds is a dark horror novel about the lengths one woman will go to as she searches for the truth about the voices in her head.

This is the second in the Asylum series. I haven't read the first yet. Fortunately, it's not confusing. I'm not going to discuss the story.

The characters are, in all honesty, idiot. Who announced loud and clear their intention to a person they knew was bad? Just do it discreetly. And not to mention, gullible.

AC have a good plot. Something fresh and new. But, she always ruined it with her characters. And she always use the flashback technic. Some are boring. I knew what Elly did when she had that conversation with Nurse Winter. So, I don't need the flashback too.

I don't know why I love this series so much. It's creepy, it keeps me on the edge of my seat, it's just so good. I love how there are so many point of views and how everything connects, even the way the characters connect. I was really hoping that we were going to focus just on Nurse Winters, but I was ok with Elly being the main one. She was a good character. Her story was interesting. I am really looking forward to book 3!

Different

I am a loyal fan of Amy Cross which must be obvious because I read so many of her books. At first, I found the book very interesting but after awhile, I found myself hurrying through. Truthfully, I was more interested in finding mistakes which were many. The story became too bizarre and unbelievable. I have mentioned previously that Ms. Cross needs a new proofreader, but the errors in this book were ridiculous. After reading about 3/4 of the book, I started highlighting the numerous errors and there were more than 20. As outstanding a writer as Amy is, she should surely be able to afford a GOOD proofreader. I am very disappointed with this book.

Cannot wait for Book 3!

Amy Cross has a great talent for writing adductive storylines with unexpected outcomes. Asylum was by far my favorite, so when I found book 2 - Meds, I had to get it right away. It was almost as amazing as the first book, kept me up all night and great twists thrown in! Cannot wait for the next one.

This was a major letdown. I really enjoyed Asylum and was looking forward to reading this but was utterly bored throughout the entire thing. All I wanted to do was finish it just so I could find out what was going on and how exactly it was going to end.. And now I'll have to read the next one and hope it's better. I normally love Amy's books and have read quite a few of them.. but this.. ugh.

A good solid traditional style horror story with all the usual trimmings, though it did feel a little strained on occasion.

However, plenty of gruesome action delivered, and encased, in a storyline that smoothly continues from the first part of the trilogy.

Easy to read, fascinating and positively ‘unputdownable’ at times - looking forward to discovering the final conclusion of this dark and dastardly, deathly adventure.

Tip: This Asylum Trilogy should definitely be read in book order.

Rating: 4.2 stars.

This was a great book, and a fantastic sequel to Asylum. I don't know when the third book of this trilogy is coming out but I hope it's soon!

Meds is sequel to Asylum. A 3rd book is supposed to come out. I like series because anything to do with asylums is creepy! Nurse Winter also is a total Witch!
Again, horror novels I do on different scale then regular books. Amy Cross has pumped out many books. They are good/ great stories. They are also creepy, gory, haunted, violent, some sex but not much. I find myself at night looking around to make sure no one is there. Horror fans will love these. My biggest concern is she needs another editor. Books are filled with many errors. Errors aren't a huge deal but they do stop the flow of reading which can kill horror. Why 3 star books. Stories 4-5 star.

Double down on horror

Unbelievably well written, a horror story with substance. Just when you think the story can't get any more interesting, the author brings it up a notch. If book 3 of this trilogy is as good as 1&2, we have hit the horror trifecta.I highly recommend reading the Asylum series for those who love to read great horror books.

Dark horror

Not quite as good as Book 1 but still an enjoyable read. It explained quite a few of the questions I had from Book 1 and made me want to complete the trilogy.

An Excellent continuation of an Outstanding Trilogy

A perfect continuation to an Amazing Trilogy, Meds continues years after the fire at Lakehurst Asylum, re-introducing a few of Book One's original characters. An awesome Ghost Story that is well written, well thought out, and has an awesome storyline with excellent character development.

As before (and unfortunately a common event of almost every of Amy Cross book) we have the same typical Flaws. Those being the occasional and ever present typos with the periodic sentence structure differences (but only if you're from the U.S. and not the U.K.). The sentence structure differences is mostly a language thing, so it's basically a non-issue (which is why I called them differences). The spelling typos do occasionally distract from the story flow, but thankfully are not enough to make me drop my rating (as I have with other books littered with typos every paragraph). Overall you will find yourself drawn in and your biggest issue will be stopping to eat or sleep as you'll find yourself (which is a common occurrence with Amy Cross books) unable to put the book down. I just wish the last Book was already available since I can't wait to see what happens next, or even how this amazing story comes to it's Final conclusion. Highly Recommended.

The Second installment of the Asylum trilogy. This was not as good as the previous book.

Set, this time, in an old rundown overflow hospital, Kirsten is back scheming and manipulating those around her. The characters are all rather horrible, Elly is the worst. She is so irritating! There are not as many lead characters in this installment.

The plot is basically Kirsten trying to locate Annie from the previous book. The mysterious Mary is also looking for Annie - but why? We don't know that yet.

Lakehurst is awaiting Kirstens return. She is determined to find out what the source of the mysterious pull is, and of course the voice that speaks to her in her head.

What a mixed bag of characters.
- A nurse who will doing anything for a price
- A doctor who believes that pain can be controlled and finds the perfect "subject" to test his theories on
- A young nurse who has pretty much been a loner since high school
- A stroke victim with a very sordid past
and let's not forget Nurse Winters, our main protagonist.
Throw in the very solid "ghost" of a hanged Nazi convicted of war crimes, and you have a very interesting story with plenty of twists and turns.

I read the first Amy Cross book and thought it was pretty good. The characters and plot were right on. So, I got this one, and while the plot and characters were well-written, it needed editing. I read over too many left out words. It interrupted the story flow and bothered me that I had to go back and reread to make sure the words weren't there and I just left them out when reading. That's why I gave it three stars, otherwise I would have probably given it four.

All I can say is WOW!!

This horror/ghost story was a banquet
for the senses! A true buffet with all
the right ingredients. So many twists
and turns I had to keep turning pages
just to see what happened next. Loved
the way each and every character was
built upon and incorporated into the
plot. This is an " up all nighter " and a
real nail bitter. Amy Cross delivers once
again. Highly recommended!!!! Can't
wait for Asylum 3 to come out! Soon,
I hope!!!!!!

A dark sequel.

A disturbing follow up to Asylum. This book is not for the squamish. Full of ghostly and grisly happenings and events. A classic of its kind in the horror genre of you can stomach it. Once again different timelines are used to give definition to events. I look forward to the final book in the trilogy

As a sequel this didn't quite live up to its predecessor as much as I had hoped. I'm not saying it wasn't good far from it and I really enjoyed it. I had just hoped to have followed the journey of Anne rather then switching to a whole new character. Still a good read in the end though.

Ready good well written horror!

Asylum was one of my favorite reads and this sequel does do it justice. Some great, although many twisted characters in this series. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Can't wait for the finale!

Very well written

There are plenty of twists and turns in this story. She certainly knows how to weave a good psychological mystery. I read any of her books I can find. She's great!

just didn't get it in the end

I understood ASYLUM but this one is a bit of a mystery to me. I don't understand about the source of the voice coming from under ground, unless..... well, guess I will have to find out in ASYLUM 3.

A typical Amy Cross book

If you want a quick read with twists and turns and just enough horror to make it worthwhile then pick up this book. Amt Cross is one of my favorite authors with some very reasonable prices. There are even enough free ones to get you hooked.

Love this author!!!

I have now read both asylum books and LOVED them!!! They keep you going until the very end. Some of it is nothing that would be in the real world ( almost kooky ), but I still loved the stories!!!

Fantastic

Excellent sequel. Crowd's writing is reminiscent of Stephen King and
like him makes the unbelievable real. Character's are well drawn and the interlocking sub plots are engrossing. A fantastic piece of escapism not to be taken too seriously.

This 2nd book in the trilogy was even more peculiar than the first, and some things didn't quite tie together neatly, but I suppose I'll go on to book 3. Some of the characters were more frightening than the actual ghosts. Overall, not bad for a ghost story.
