Big Lake Reckoning

Rate this book
When a young woman is brutally assaulted at the Cat Mountain Ski Resort, two of the three suspects Sheriff Jim Weber arrests come from wealthy families whose roots go deep into Arizona's history, and the third has a past shrouded in mystery. The sheriff soon finds himself involved in a sordid case that stretches from the White Mountains all the way to the governor's office and beyond. Pressured by local and state officials as well as representatives of the FBI and U.S. Marshal's Service, all with their own agenda, Weber must stand firm to see justice done and send a message that in Big Lake, nobody is above the law.

The darkest in the series yet. But, justice and the law are differentiated.

Not more than a 2.5 for me.

Sheriff Weber is dealing with the usual, Mayor Chet wanting to fire him/bringing him in front of the town council for never acting the way Chet wants at the time he wants it. This part of each book is getting tired, it's time for Mayor Chet to be gone.

There's lots of background(again) on the growth of Big Lake tourism in summer & winter and this brings in lots of $$, more crowds, more crime. This time, it's the rape of a girl at the newest ski resort (which their manager tries to cover up). The perps are quickly identified & jailed and then the FBI/US Marshal Service/State Attn General all descending upon Big Lake demanding the release of the college students responsible (none of whom are at all contrite). Meanwhile, rapes are also occurring on the reservation and a few of the local rez residents want payback.

The "boys" think they are getting off but reckoning is coming.

Storyline is ok, Sheriff's handling of all the multi jurisdictional players good but again, large portions of the book are background and it doesn't need to be in every book.

Again, I have to give this book five stars.

How could I give it any less, when I enjoyed it so much?? The humor is delightful. The story keeps you glued to your seat, long past your bedtime, and you will love all the old characters and some of the new ones. I don't know how the sheriff keeps his cool, with the idiots, he has to deal with. Some stories you are trying to figure out who is the killer, with lots of twists and turns and of course, a surprise ending. Others you just go along for the ride. Always clever writing and inventive ways of catching (and keeping them) the bad guy (s). Without a doubt, if you don't become a fan of Nick Russell's books, you are missing out, on something special. Again, Nick, thank you for having your books in Kindle Unlimited.

A terrific series

This was a difficult story to read due to the heartbreaking and horrific tragedies. I absolutely loved how the Sheriff handled the beginning of the case, as well as how he handled himself with the alphabet agencies, and all of the PITA lawyers that attempted to control him and his office. Lol!! It's a definite must read book and series.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

SOMETIMES WHEN I'M READING ABOUT BIG LAKE, I FORGET ITS NOT REALLY HAPPENING SOMEWHERE. IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING I'VE SEEN/HEARD ON THE NEWS, "RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES". SPOOKY. I USE TO WONDER HOW STUPID CAN PEOPLE BE, BUT I'VE LEARNED THEY HAVE NO BOUNDERIES WHEN IT COMES TO BEING STUPID. SMH. DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
I'M STILL LOVIN' THIS SERIES. ;D

Another great Big Lake story

This one was a little different. Had many different and new characters to add to a dramatic story. Was kinda like a legal thriller. It still had all good old characters... Great story...

Wow, A tough subject made a perfect book!

Author took a horrible situation and turned it into the best book yet in this series! The humor once again was awesome, the sad parts make you ache, and the ending? You want to be there for that ride in the old green truck!

The development of Big Lake as a tourist attraction has increased the incidents of the haves and the have-nots having not so good encounters. Interesting and upsetting crimes for Sheriff Weber and his officers to investigate and solve. The surprise ending was great.

Reckoning the Law vs Justice

Sheriff Weber needs some occasional assistance to properly display patience while enforcing the law and waiting for justice to be served. Author Russell keeps the reader involved and blood pressure elevated! Good read. Thank you!

troubles in paradise

With progress comes trouble to this quite little town.
The court system, like everywhere is to protect the guilty.
It made me mad to know how justice is not served.
Not one of his better stories.

I have so grown to know and mostly love his characters. Politics, entitlement, justice? His books haven't disappointed yet.

Ending was very abrupt. It was like the author gave up and didn’t finish the story, very disappointed.

This one was very good. Every few chapters you think the Sheriff is stuck and won't be able to solve the problem, yet somehow, he figures out a way to stall the inevitable.

Wild and crazy justice

This book went in so many different direction it was wild. You thought Weber had them and then he didn't. Good ending.

I would have given this one 4 stars, but I wasn't satisfied with the way it ended. A nice series so far, though

Well another well played and good write from Mr Russell, l think this one was a little racy, but still loved it. True to form there is this happening all over the world true, but sad. And in my book they will all find justice here or in the afterlife..well done Mr Russell, l will be looking for the next book
