The story of the Lewis and Clark expedition directed by President Jefferson was a once in a lifetime opportunity to discover the northwest.
They traveled up the Missouri River through the Louisiana Territory purchased from Napoleon. They hoped to find a passage to the Pacific Ocean which they did although not completely by water.
The book relates the massive collection of plants, animals, terrain and weather info. It describes several Native American tribes.
And besides the story this book provides envelopes, fold outs, parchment like folders holding over 15 document replicas of original letters and journals with their transcripts in the back pages
These parchments are delicate and you may want to secure to their pages.
I found this book to be educational and tremendous fun.

Extremely white-washed and sugar-coated way of telling history. Only 20 years past the date of publication and its already not aged well.

I give it1 star for the fact that I enjoyed the creative ways to unfold the "journal pages" and "artifacts ".

This provides a more hands-on approach to history with diary entries, supply lists, and pull-out letters.

A very nice book done in the style of Bantock's "Griffin & Sabine", it is a great way for a child to learn history.
