The Stolen Book is the fourteenth book in the series The Greek Village Collection by INTERNATIONAL BEST SELLING AUTHOR Sara Alexi.

In a vivid depiction of life amongst the orange groves and the hazy sun of a small Greek Village, The Stolen book is a gripping tale of hardship and devotion as one woman goes to extraordinary lengths for the future of her children.

Life hadn’t been easy for Niki, and having made her way from Albania to Greece, she worked hard as a cleaner in the village only to find herself struggling in a financial rut. Although happily married to a local from the village, her husband Karolos was unambitious in his work as an orange farmer, and Niki longed to find a way to provide a hopeful future for their two sons.

During a shift at work Niki discovers something that would alter her life forever, but perhaps not in the way she might have expected. Hidden and forgotten under the dust lay an open book, and at once she was captivated.

As she cast her eyes over the pages, the book promised just what she needed – wealth and security for her family. The book wasn’t hers, she shouldn’t have taken it, but to change the destiny of her two sons she became a thief.

As turbulence and chaos of Niki’s actions begin to loom , what drastic choices will she have make to find her way out? Will the risks she took pay off and bring a stable future for her family, or will there be consequences to bear? In a poignant portrayal of a mother’s love, find out how far some will go.

Best selling author Sara Alexi was born in Oxford, England. After travelling widely she now splits her time between England and a tiny rural village in the Peloponnese, in Greece, where she has renovated a stone farmhouse, whilst observing the Greek way of life and absorbing the culture.

As a qualified psychotherapist, Sara ran her own practice for years. Her artistic nature was, during that time, confined to painting and she exhibited widely. Her move to Greece was the catalyst that began her writing.

Her 'Greek Village Series' has been very well received and provides a keenly observed, compassionate insight into the Greek people and culture, and the human condition in general.

Another book by Sara Alexi that took me to the Greek Village to visit the island and I saw many people I have come to know there. Like visiting old friends and finding out what they are doing or hearing the end of stories that may have had loose ends left by the author. Also as all of the books in this series I can't put it down till the end. I make sure I have a day free to read before I sit down with one of these stories. I am now caught up and awaiting the next one. :)

this does not have the flow and pace of the other books in the series. Being short of money make people do crazy things and this is the basis for Nikki's desperate plunge into "borrowing". i just didn't really get a feel for the characters and felt the whole was rather fragmented

Niki was forced to leave Albania when she was young. Her parents sent her to live in Greece, thinking she would have more opportunity there. A different kind of abandonment. So eventually she find and marries Karolos. He is an orange farmer. They have two boys. Now with her boys she begins to feel the need for a secure future. She pushes and pushes them in school. Having graduated they have been accepted to university in Britian. Niki spends the summer scraping together money for her boys. After finding a book at Kyria Toula's house about how to make money and make your dreams come true. She becomes quite bold. Their journey to England is a nightmare. Returning home brings more nightmares. Will she be able to give her boys their dreams, keep her husband, save her name? All the trouble she has created for herself, how will it play out?

A Pity ....

If I hadn't already read all of Ms. Alexsi's previous books in the Greek Village series and many in the Greek Island series as well, I might have enjoyed The Stolen Book as a brief, reasonably well written diversion.

The Stolen Book and the preceding three novellas in the Greek Village series were a relative disappointment. All well written, all with decent charactization given their limited scope - but somehow missing the "soul" of Ms. Alexi's previous work.

I may be forced to give Ms. Alexi a time out for the time being, or perhaps return to finish the books of the Greek Island series, in the hope that they'll be less disappointing than the latest books of hers I've read.

Another one finished, I really liked the intertwining of Toulas story in this book, very cleverly done.
I found the story quite emotional, we take for granted the things we get in the UK and how we are lucky on so many levels. I did feel that life was not being kind to Niki and her family, but what did I know :)

Once again Sara Alexi has crafted a story with characters we can love, feel sorry for, worry about, and even identify with. The Stolen Book is about Niki, who worries that her sons will live on the orange farm when she knows they should have a good education to give them lives with choices. Niki struggles with earning enough money to help send them to England to college, with keeping her husband attentive to that goal, and with working to change herself into a woman who has purpose and achieves her goals.
Once again, I am charmed by her novel.

I love the way this book ties up loose ends from The English Lesson. Another wonderful story from the Greek Village Series! And yet again, I am anxiously waiting on the next story from what is becoming one of my favorite places on earth- The Greek Village. Sara Alexi invites you to the islands of Greece in such a way that I cannot wait to go! Sara has a way of telling stories that makes it impossible to put the book down until it is finished.

Sara Alexi's Greek Village books are a window into a beautiful part of the world. Her characters are very real and you will feel you know them as your friends as they intertwine into each other's lives throughout the series. The books are a holiday to a place and people that not every one can travel to on an airplane...but anyone can travel there through the pages of her books. Enjoy the trip!

This latest novel of Sarah's doesn't disappoint. We are introduced to new characters and it links nicely to 'The English Lesson'. It is very thought provoking, as many of her books are and a very enjoyable read. Now I wait patiently for her next book.

Village life

I am really enjoying getting to know the villagers and how their lives intertwine. Picturing the village more each new book. I started the stories in Greece on holiday but enjoy them anywhere now .
