When the past and present collide, the result could be fatal. Fortress Security operative Lily Stanton survived life on Nashville's streets and thrived in the Army. Abandoned as an infant, her Fortress teammates have become family, so her world is rocked when a woman claiming to be her mother begs to meet her. After Lily and her partner, Remy Doucet, uncover a connection between their mission and Lily's mother, she has no choice but to confront her past. To navigate that emotional minefield, she needs Remy, the man who has slipped past her defenses and captured her heart. Former NYPD homicide detective Remy Doucet hasn't thought about his high school sweetheart, Christine, since he met Lily Stanton, the woman who stars in his dreams. But when Christine disappears, Fortress Security sends him and Lily to find her. When the search leads them deep into hostile territory, they team up with Fortress Security's newest squad, an elite Delta unit, to stop a con artist from preying on those who are desperately ill. Remy knows one misstep could lead to mission failure. Worse, he could lose Lily. And he won't allow anyone to take her from him, no matter the cost to himself.
Growing up, Lily Stanton didn't have an ideal childhood. After being abandoned at a fire station when she was in infant, she was put in the system and bounced around from foster home to foster home. Some where good, but most of them were not. At the age of 16 she decided enough was enough and ended up living and surviving on her own on the streets. Once she turned 18, she joined the Army and from there joined Fortress Security. She did whatever she could to make her life better.
Remy Doucet grew up in a large family full of love. They may not have been rich and some, including his high school sweetheart, may say that he grew up on the wrong side of the bayou, but they were happy, healthy and never doubted that they were loved. When Remy discovers his high school sweetheart, Christine, has been cheating on him with his best friend, James, he decides it's time for a change. After spending a couple of years in college, Remy decided he was going to move to New York and join the NYPD. 10 years later, he finds himself a part of Fortress Security.
When Remy and Lily are called into the bosses for their next mission, Remy is shocked to discover Christine is missing and James has insisted that Remy be the one to locate her. While undercover, Remy and Lily will need to pose as boyfriend and girlfriend to not raise any suspicion. Neither Remy nor Lily knows the feelings the other has for them. It's going to be tough to keep their feelings hidden while playing the part of a couple.
On the way to his hometown, Lily receives an email from someone claiming to be her birth mother. She is dying and wants to meet Lily before she does. But she can't think of that now. She needs to get her head in the game in order to locate and bring Christine home. But when they discover a connection between Christine's disappearance and Lily's mom, she knows that she'll need to face her past sooner than she wanted too. Remy vows that he will be with her every step of the way. He's fallen in love with the little Elf and will do everything in his power to show her that he will be there for her always.
But when they discover where Christine is being held, it will take Lily, Remy and Durango to bring her home safe. They will all need to stay alert, focused and watch each others' backs. One misstep can lead to tragedy. Both Lily and Remy have too much to live for. They are determined to get their HEA.
*dreamy sigh*
You guys! I absolutely LOVED this book! Lily and Remy were amazing! I loved seeing their relationship develop from friendship into a HEA. They were perfect for each other! This was an awesome addition to the series!
Another hit by Ms. Deel! I can always count on her to suck me in and not let me go until the last page! Can't wait to read more by her!
I have to say... this one was a bit tough to cast but I love who I ended up using! What do you think?
Content: Mild violence. No swearing. Clean romance... just swoony kisses!
You can never go wrong with a book by Rebecca Deel. I love the fast-paced action, hints of mystery, and of course a great romance!
This book was particularly sweet for me, as Lily Stanton, our main character, grew up with a rough life as a foster kid. Being a foster parent myself, many of her experiences, thoughts, and feelings resonated with my own.
Remy made a fantastic hero, and I loved his easy going ways and endearments to Lily. There were characters from other books, which made it fun as I have read some of their stories. Another good book, now on to the next one!!
I am loving these books and love so much that the author has the reading order of how all her interconnected books should be read listed most authors don't do that and it's annoying, but i do want to say that lily's siblings are her HALF siblings not step as they kept being referred to in this book.
If this book is motivating & inspiring. A contemporary romance with special ops action & real life dysfunctional family drama LOL
Lily never knew anything about her parents except she was abandoned and left for foster care system. Lily got to see the good, bad and ugly of foster care and that kept her walls high to protect herself. Only one let in her team, that her new family. Remy her teammate was one she had to out distance between he was one that might crack her mighty wall. Boss puts them on a mission as boyfriend, girlfriend in Remy hometown and things heat up for fake relationship, mission and discovery. Tons of surprises and inspiring feek good moments. Violance2 sex0 clean romance.

I really like this author’s work. She write clean romance with suspense or action and strong men and women characters. There are several series within her collections and many of the characters are interlinked. The good news is that you don’t have to read them all and you can read them in any order. The problem is, after a while they become very predictable and very formulaic. The plot is virtually always the same: someone gets kidnapped, a team gets called in to rescue the woman, another team comes in to help, someone gets shot during the takedown and they get married or engaged at the end. She has great characters and a really good writing style, I just wish she would diversify and change things up a bit…
I am about to read the 4th book of the series, I will go on limited sleep just to keep on reading!! Just when you think the next book can't be better than the one you just finished,.. Well surprise the author has locked you into another fantastic story!! Best series yet!!!
Remy and Lily are partners at Fortress Security but Remy wants more. Lily doesn't think she's worthy of love but Remy shows her how good they are as partners in love as well as work. Along the way they uncover a fraud scheme, save the client and learn the truth about Lily's biological family.
Suspense, heart stopping terror, heartfelt love, mystery- this tops the list of Fortress Security books. Keep tissues ready. You will Feel the emotions of Remy and Lily as they embark on a mission that threatens the lives of those they love and may lose if they fail.
Remy and Lily are facing their past and future together in this action packed read. They are on a mission to find Remy's old girlfriend who has gone missing as well. As meeting Lily's birth mom when they realize that she has a stake in the results of finding the missing woman . Really good , I didn't realize this was book 3 of a series so I will go back and read those .
I decided to read this novel based on the picture on the front page, skipping the first 2 in the series and loved it. I like girls with a gun in hand, me having been a sharp shooter in my day. Now i will go back and read from the first one. Thanks for such clean, good read.
Remy is a wonderful, kind man, and Lilly is the same. Loved that Lilly is snarky and Remy just grins. Hope to see some mention of the Doucet's and Higgins's in future books. Then there 's Brent, what a good man!
There's a comfort in reading Rebecca Deel's Fortress and Otter Creek Series. Enough action and suspense to fill that scenario with enough reality that will make you hold your breath. Enjoying a re-read.
I picked the first of this series on a whim. I am now bing reading. The characters are realistic and great. The plot is realistic and the action scenes are well written and believable. I have found a new favorite author.
Lovely story! Plot was filled with action and romance. Characters were full of life and the dialogue was terrific. Another "favorite " book to add to my list. Very good author. I' be read many of her books with more to follow.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Lily and Remy. The author took two Special Ops tough agents and gave us a look at both of their soft sides, self doubts and fears and had us loving them both. None of this one macho alpha and wimpy female. I loved the Lily held her own when it came to "playing" with the guys. I also loved Remy's Cajun charm. Although this was not drama and suspense from the first page that's ok. In focusing on the characters it actually kept me interested. I loved the sprinkling of hump or spread throughout. I will say Rebecca Deel was able to write a romance that focused on the couple and not on how hot and steamy she could write a bedroom scene. In fact it was only after finishing the book I realized there were NO sex scenes but plenty of romance. Well done. A good read.
In some of the past stories in this series and the Otter Creek series, we got to meet one or both of the primary characters before the book that focused on them. Before this story, we had heard names and very briefly met Lily.
In this unique storyline we got to really know Remy and especially, Lily. We learned of her early life and what made her the strong woman portrayed in the story.
The mystery in this book was an unexpected surprise. I felt compelled to keep reading, as I have in the others, however, upon learning the real reason Remy's friend was missing, the intensity ratcheted even higher. The last half of the story became more and more intense and set the reader up for even more excitement!
I loved the ending, and as usual, mysteries and love really do go together!
4.5 stars! I enjoyed this book and felt it was a bit of a departure from Ms. Deel's usual stories. This book focused on two Fortress operatives, Remy and Lily. I fell in love with Lily in the previous book and really enjoyed her here. She was tough yet sweet, capable yet vulnerable. I also loved Remy--a great book boyfriend!
My only complaint about this book is that it seemed a bit unbelievable at times, more so than Deel's other books. Also, while the ending was sweet, it did rate fairly high on the cheese factor. It is also just tough for me to believe that everything would come together that nicely. Despite my minor complaints, an excellent read! I'm guessing Zane is next, and I can't wait!
I love Rebecca Deel books, the romance and action it's awesome. The characters are developed beautifully and you feel like you know them. You can feel their deep love and commitment without explicit love scenes (nothing wrong with that) and it's full of action and alpha males with out cussing (also nothing wrong with that lol). For those readers that do not like explicit sex and lots of cussing, but still enjoy a strong romance and plenty of action pick up Ms. Deel's books. Always a pleasure to read her stories.
I would give all three Fortress Security books each a five star rating. They are very well written. If you like action adventure romance Rebecca Deel books are the best.
Remy and Lily's story is full of suspense, action, and untangling the past. I really enjoyed the way Remy's persistence broke through Lily's walls. There are several different threads to the story and it wraps up with a happy ending. This is a very entertaining book.
Nice, un-challenging. Not realistic again in terms of time frames but a good holiday read. Need to read previous books for whole experience of characters but not essential.
