"The blond swirls ruined as they stuck to my eyes and the cut across my cheek, cemented to my skin with blood." And I Exhale, by Stephanie Pitcher Fishman.

"Marguerite, only rags, some stained a deep umber like the crust of a pie long since forgotten in a hot oven, stared back." Shaded, Dede Nesbitt.

Shutter Step takes me back to a time when a short story from Roald Dahl or Shirley Jackson was just what I needed to transport me to another time and place. This collaboration of authors offers multitudes of fantastic imagery. In short stories, every single word needs to count to pull the reader in.

I highly recommend this anthology of shorts. The stories are refreshing and absorbing giving the reader just enough.

Short quick weird reads

Kind of a "it was a dark and stormy night" set of stories. Each author had a twist at the end like an O'Henry story. I really enjoyed them. But a word of warning - if scary stories give you nightmares don't read these after dark! You may stay awake all night waiting for the other shoe to drop

Words flow, poetically, even throughout horror as only women-writers know how to do.

As a characteristic on a collection of stories by different authors with different styles, my soul diverges, searches it's kindred... sometimes the story ends and it's never found, other times it bounces no longer in wonder but in wander.
Most tales I've liked 4 ribbons and stars for them...but I loved... "And I Exale" and "Hush, Constance" they reached the galaxies!

Short stories that are written right can be very enjoyable. You never get bored of the story, as it changes as quickly as it starts. I always love when authors get together and write a collage of tales, because not only do you get different stories, you also get to read different writing styles. Oh and one more thing, love the title!

I loved working on this project with such talented indie authors as Andrea Johnson Beck, Stacy Claflin, CM Niles, and Dede Nesbitt.

Although I have a story included in the anthology, I got to sit in the part of reader while I enjoyed the four other stories. I love that each are short enough to read while waiting in line or for an appointment yet the level of detail in the story and character development give the same satisfaction as reading a longer work. I highly recommend this as a great way to experience new-to-you authors.

Shutter step was a good collection of short stories that made for a quick read. That they all shared a common theme but weaved separate stories to ignite the imagination was very well done. I am partial to Stacy Claflin's writing, but I feel that all the authors' stories were nicely done in each of their own different and unique writing styles. A good collection that makes for a quick read.
