Too stupid
I dont know where to begin... it is such a silly and poorly written book...it is astounding. Then there are the spellcheck errors and typos and grammatical errors on every page. There are so many plots going it is difficult to understand what the story is supposed to be about. It just spirals into a neverending convoluted senseless mess. The dialogue between characters is contemporary as is the situational areas of this plot...it is very hard to follow. In a word, it's a mess. Do not bother or waste your time would be my recommendation.

Seriously this is one of my favourite books, i love her Alice side and cant believe he never worked it out until....
I cant wait for the next book? As soon as i picked this up i couldnt put it down read it in a whole afternoon was sad to see it finish

5 brilliant stars for the story!!!
I don't even know where to start to talk about the book. It was brilliant, well written, well paced, strong characters, great romance, great secondary characters, great plot.
WOW!
My first book from D.K. Combs and I was impressed.
Saeran and Blaine Sinclair, 2 sisters, cousins of king James were given the choice to stay at the court or live with Kane the "Lion of the Highlands" until he will decides which one he would like to marry. The one left single would marry another man, dreaded by both sisters.
Blaine, being older and having a stronger character has always dominated and guided her younger sister, convinced Saeran to pose as a boy - lad - her brother for her own good and protection.
Kane was called by the king and told he has to marry one of the girls. He discovered that one of the girl's dowry had something that he always wanted so there was not much of a choice in fact.
And this us where the fun began. Saeran training with the men, learning their hard ways. Kane seeing Saeran from distance and falling for her. Blaine out of character behavior.
It was great to see Kane meeting Saeran as Alice and see their young love blossom.
What I love the most about the story is that D.K Combs took her time to build the story, the plot, the romance between Kane and Saeran. It didn't just happen in few days.
I really don't want to give much out of the story but the end had me surprised to see till where the plot went and who were the players behind.
The secondary characters where great. I loved Connor and Broderick for their ways of dealing with Saeran. Connor from beginning took the role of an older brother and was the rational one when Saeran would jump to rush conclusions.
That was another aspect that I loved about the book - no nonsense and melodrama that some stories tend to have and go over the top with.
Great read that I highly recommend and I will be looking for more stories from D.K. Combs. She has me hooked.

Connor covered for her saying she was his sister but I just can’t believe that Kane would forget about Saeran telling him her whole life story and how her parents died in a fire. That was an annoying plot hole. Also her fever talk was so cringe, what a cheap way to resolve that issue.
There are so many tropes I like in this book, I just wish it was executed better.

This book started out as literary perfection and then declined into just barely tolerable. Cover art, check. Multiple Pov's, check. Complete descriptions of the characters, check. Strong leads, check and check. I loved the female leads quiet strength and applaud the author for being able to portray that inner strength. It all fell apart for me with the abundance of lies she continued to tell. I can understand fearing the consequences of initial lies but this went beyond that.
She continued to lie and built lie on top of lie making the situation worse and worse. The author turned the female lead into the pseudo-villain because the plot revolves around her stupidity. It makes me want to scream because she was so great and then she became so stupid for the sake of a more climactic end that wasn't all that climatic. Why does the female lead have to be stupid for the plot to work?
Imagine if when she found out about Blaine father instead of creating more lies for an more interesting story, she was honest. They work together to bring down everyone. Couldn't that be just as entertaining? If feels like the sleazy way out to make the female lead the scapegoat to a plot crisis instead of just taking the time to create an epic end. Like in the battle when she says we are all animals and its basically kill our be killed. I thought, she's about to kick some ass and let her inner bad-ass shine. Nope. Instead she breaks down during the battle, gets her ass handed to her, jeopardizes the entire battle with her deception and inability to actually fight, and needs to be saved. It was like lighting a firecracker and watching it sputter out before it ever lit. Such a disappointment in the character and the fact that the author sacrificed the integrity of the female lead for plot drama.
And then for her to be sick for two weeks and still bleeding from a stomach wound but she wants to find Alan and get some answers. That's not example of bravery but stupidity. She can't fight, she's wounded, and everybody knows who she is but she still wants to get dressed and go like she can really do something besides create more problems. Stupid.
The red herring with Blaine at the end redeemed the end somewhat but not enough to make up for the failure that is the entire last quarter of the book. After that the book ended rather abruptly. I'd rather the author cut out the stupidity of the female lead and spent more time developing a better ending. A more drawn out confrontation with the King or even more about her pregnancy would have been welcome additions over losing all respect for the lead. Because of this I have no desire to read book 2. I feel kind of dirty reading books that propagate stupid leads instead of writing better stories that don't depend on stupid leads. The author definitely needs to work on how they end books. This isn't the first book I read by this author where everything goes to crap and ends abruptly.

I first read this on Wattpad while it was updating and enjoyed the book. I reread to read the second book but didn't enjoy that much. The beginning was great but the characters started behaving foolishly. I wanted to shake some sense into them, I mean Searan she had so many chances to tell the truth but she didn't but I guess it wouldn't have lead to the action ending I guess. I enjoyed it but it felt stretched out.

Brilliant, enthralling, captivating. This novel hooks you and does not let you go until the end, where it then hooks you on its sequel and the whole process is repeated again. You just can't put it down. It's simply brilliant.

Get 'em, girl! Good for D.K. Combs - this book is only available on Amazon and Smashwords and she writes like a much older person! Highlander's Touch is similar to Outlander, without the huge history behind it. I've been seeing it in reviews all the time and I finally bought it.

Wow I wanted to read this as a part of my trying to go with the theme of being in Scotland; I was sorely disappointed. So many plot holes, I got whiplash from bouncing around so much.
The misunderstandings and miscommunications in this book were also excessive. I also could not for the life of me understand, identify with, or follow the thought processes of any of the character; They all could have been certifiable. Each characters development was so all over the place and disjointed that nothing about what kind of person they were was believable. This gave my not insignificant trust issues an unwanted boost.
The author was trying to put in plot twists right and left without any buildup that supported the new information. At the end, all I could do was roll my eyes and try not to laugh.
Truly a terribly constructed plot all around. The only bright spot I experience in this book was Connors character.
Oh, and did I forget to mention that even after the main characters had “fallen in love” and established a relationship, the main male tried to rape the main female because he got false information that made him think she betrayed him???

I read this when it was only on Wattpad but then I figured out it had actually been published which is awesome for the author! However, this book was a lot better when I was younger and hadn't read a lot of good romance. This book starts strong but slowly falls apart. The continuity in the book is just not good as one moment Saeran is skinny and small but the next she is curvy and heavy boned (or something like that). Also, I could never pin down what Blaine actually looked like because there was so many conflicting descriptions. The ending of this book was lacking in my opinion and I wish the conflict had been resolved differently.

January 13, 2022Overall I've been really enjoying this book despite the silly and unbelievable plot. The relationship between Saeran and Blaine made me roll my eyes at how villainous Blaine obviously is and how pathetic and doormat-ish the FMC is.
There's also some awful body-shaming in this book, mostly between the two sisters. I am also confused as there seems to be inconsistencies about whether Blaine is large with a lumpy arse or thin and stick-like or if she has pudgy hands... She was described both ways. Basically, the author is using both skinny and fat bodies as a put-down and I wish that wasn't the case.
She reached forward, taking Saeran's hands. They were cold and pudgy.
Aye, her sister needed a swift kick in her lumpy arse if she-
At least, she thought that until a stick-like figure ran into her while she was coming around the corner.

My God. This was a good read, I first saw this book on Wattpad, but thought i didn't want to pay to read it, after a while i couldn't get it out of my head, and just went and bought it!!!! It was this book that got me to read old Scotland romance stories, and who docent just love a romance where the girl disguises herself as a boy!! i know i do <3

Strong storyline
This is a book of intrigue, romance and the deadliest of rivalry between clans. I would have liked more of the highland scenery and characters of the locals. Otherwise a good book.

Love it! This romance does a good job of having depth to its characters and a solid plot aside from just the romance. Lots of unexpected twists and turns, as well as a good balance of steam and sweetness.

This could be a good book, but there are so many spelling and grammatical errors to the point it’s more annoying then enjoyable. Along with this, the descriptions of the characters keep going back and forth.

I started out liking this book, but by Chapter 14 I lost interest. I don't understand why it took the FL so long too realize how awful her sister was, and I don't understand how the ML was unable to see through her disguise how meeting her as a boy and then a women.
