Every instinct in Angelo's body screamed at him to lunge for his weapon. Instead he set his feet for impact, blocking her slashing claws. Unbelievably, after a few moments of struggling, she went still, all the fight gone...

Minka isn't sure she should trust the sexy Special Forces soldier who found her. Subjected to horrors, on the run from scientists set on locking her in a cage, Minka is terrified of the monster she's becoming...and somehow, Angelo is the only one who can calm the beast inside her and make her feel safe.

But can she trust the way he makes her feel when she's not even sure she can trust herself?

Paige Tyler opens with an intensity that will rock you as a young woman is desperate to survive, to run, but is lost and has no idea who can be trusted. When faced with the huge Special Ops soldier in front of her, her fight instinct slowly and miraculously dissipates as she touches him.

Minka has been a lab rat, tortured and changed into a shifter at the hands of crazed scientists. Angelo becomes her protector, her personal hero, even his scent can calm her raging beast inside. Her beast has a mind of its own and any threat can bring it forward, claws and fangs bared but Angelo sees past all that and finds a terrified woman who makes his heart skip a beat. He will do anything to protect her, but will that be enough? Minka’s appearance raises many questions and there are those who will stop at nothing to get the answers…

Her Fierce Warrior by Paige Tyler is a less brutal and more romantic addition to her series, but still packs an intense punch that will fascinate those who enjoy paranormal suspense. Sure, there is still blood and violence, but it is toned down as several subplots come together and conflicts are resolved for previous characters. As always, Ms. Tyler gives us fully-developed characters that leap off the page with their believable portrayals. Who wouldn’t fall for a protective soldier with honor and a warm heart? Who wouldn’t want to help an abused and terrified heroine accept who she is and learn to trust and control her animal? And…who doesn’t like a romance that sizzles slowly into a full boil?

Minka was captured and force to partake in a genetic experiment. Her capturer's goal, to create a human/animal mutation, the perfect super warrior.

Running for her life, escaping by the skin of her teeth, Minka is desperate to control the animal inside her, The animal that has protected her but also made her into a killing machine…until she meets Angelo.

Angelo is a special forces soldier and not only knows what she is, he somehow has a calming effect on the beast inside Minka. Minka clings to Angelo as he provides her hope to regain her humanity.

Transported back to X-Ops headquarter, Minka must prove she is capable of containing the rage while Angelo must decide if he truly can become her anchor. Meanwhile, political machinations might just ruin any chance for Minka to learn her control.

Emotional scars, of course, get in the way but the chemistry still ignites with explosive proportions.

If you’re a fan of the X-Ops series, back characters do come into play, but I was surprised at the reluctance of one key player to accept Minka’s transformation. Ultimately, a few back plot lines come to a head bring closure to those lines as well as the reasoning behind the key player’s reluctance.

Fast paced, action intense and providing a good balance to the steam and the story, Her Fierce Warrior was an excellent Scifi read.

I received this ARC of Her Fierce Protector from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication March 1, 2016.

I'm definitely going against the general consensus and it disappoints me, but I really didn’t enjoy this one. It was really hard to get into this book and usually I am pulled fairly quickly into a Paige Tyler novel. Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Some of what didn’t work for me:

I really was put off by the type of quick connection between Angelo and Minka. There was something that really didn’t work for me the way that Minka is constantly curled up on Angelo’s lap or crawling all over him. Although I “get” what the author was developing, but for me I kept rolling my eyes. This is turn, made me less than interested in these two characters. Minka just seemed very immature, child-like and weak, so it was hard to be vested in her. I actually skipped the entire sex scenes between Minka and Angelo as she seemed so immature that I couldn’t picture her as a 26 year old woman.

The minute we got to Jayson and Layla’s relationship, I became more interested. I thought they were solid secondary characters and I was actually wishing that they were the primary characters. I did have issues with Ivy’s attitude and definitely thought someone needed to “b88ch” slap her. It took her so long to be proactive versus giving off the silent anger treatment.

There were definitely a couple of times where I thought the scene was contrived.

The book started out strong, but for me went from a great start to boring really, really fast. The prologue didn’t seem to be anything that couldn’t have been interwoven into Minka getting to know Angelo and the epilogue seemed to be out of place as well.

The plot focused on finding the doctors who are performing tests on shifters and trying to create shifters. This book didn’t really feel like it brought anything new to the series. Yes some conclusions were made and yes some “bad guys” were found out, but the book had a “been there, done that” feel to it. I'm hoping the next book really brings some new ideas or plot devices as this series has so much going for it.

The past comes back to haunt. We finally meet the first hybrid created from Ivy's DNA and she is a wildcat.

One of the fears of John and Ivy have been that the evil doctors who kidnapped her and took her blood would use it to create more hybrids. Angelo Rios and his Special Forces team run into one of those hybrids in Southern Tajikistan after she escapes from the laboratory she had been tortured in.

I love this series and how each of the couples though one is always a shifter and one human are so unique. Angelo has known about the shifters all along so when he faces a rabid woman after she kills men who tried to attack her he isnt fearful about trying to talk her down. What he doesnt expect is for her to immediately calm down in his arms and fall asleep. Minka Pajari was kidnapped and given a serum that made her into a monster (in her eyes) and then tortured to constantly bring the beast out. After escaping all she knows is this stranger calms her beast and she doesnt want to let go of him.

Lots of secrets and revelations were reveled in this book and some even resolved but that only opened up more threads and dangers for the men and women who work for the Department of Covert Ops.

I have enjoyed every book in this series and with some of the revelations through out this book see the potential for many more books which makes this reader very happy.

Ever since book one, this series has been one in which I anticipate each new release. I love the blend of paranormal, romantic suspense, and action. The heroes and heroines are courageous, smart, passionate, and engaging while the plot is a blend of twisty suspense and hard action. This latest was probably one of the moderate action ones, but it still had its fair share and I slipped easily and deeply into the story.

This series is one that works best in order. The stories build on each other and the characters are around from earlier books. This story in particular builds on others as Angelo has been around since book one and Minka had some side scenes in the last book to set up for this one. In fact, I'm going to recommend that the reader not skip the prequel novella, Her Secret Agent, which I believe is free. The very last scene will make no sense whatsoever without it.

So this book starts with much abused and confused new hybrid, Minka, escaping from the installation where she was tortured and experimented on by the scientists that Ivy and her friends are desperately trying to find. Minka tries to go home, but ends up in a bad situation that Special Forces soldier, Angelo, arrives just in time to save her molesters from Minka's beast.

Angelo knows exactly what Minka is and sees that unlike other hybrid shifters, she has somehow retained a sense of self and is struggling to control her beast side. Minka latches on to him because something about having Angelo close keeps her calm and in control. Angelo is assigned to bring Minka to the headquarters for the government ops program that works with shifters. He is leery of leaving Minka with anyone other than his trusted friends Ivy and Landon particularly after seeing the way a few of the higher ups are eager to poke, prod, and pump Minka for the information on the place from which she escaped.

Ivy is devastated to see in Minka proof that her DNA is definitely being used to torture and change humans into hybrids. But the mission continues to gain evidence that someone from the oversight committee paid the scientists and ordered the making of all the hybrids even while manipulating their organization's activities.

Minka must find a way to control her beast, but along the way she falls for the heroic Angelo. He lives for his work and she knows that he will eventually leave her and go back to the desert and his team. And while she has feelings for him, Angelo grows to care for Minka and is conflicted about returning to duty.

This book has its own main plot thread with Minka and Angelo. However, at the same time, there are a few other strong story threads happening including a host of narrators. There is a lot going on. I kept it all straight, but it definitely left me chasing down several paths at once. I felt like several stories are vying to be up next and there were a couple reveals tossed in to affect the overall story. Hopefully some of these threads will tie off soon or at the very least combine.

I know that sounds like I was dissatisfied with the story, but really I'm not. I enjoyed following along as Minka worked with the others and learned about her new nature and how to work with it and accept it. I loved the relationship between Angelo and Minka. And there are three other threads that intrigue me.

The story was less tense and almost meandered along, but there were spikes and hints that kept me waiting for the big moment which came near the end. The explosive, lethal big money scene was definitely a page-turner.

The romance starts out as Minka latching on to Angelo as her savior and Angelo feeling the need to protect. They are very drawn to each other and attracted- a fated mates feel to it, but it was not instalove. The romance is both passionate and sweet. Minka is so innocent of men, but Angelo is gentle and patient with her. They have the fear of their upcoming separation because Angelo must return to his unit that keeps them from opening up entirely, but it was easy to see that they belonged together and wanted to be together.

So all in all, while this was less high impact than previous ones, it kept me engaged and left me eager for the next installment. This book/series is for those who enjoy a blend of paranormal and romantic suspense.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Running from the scientists that subjected her to horrors, Minka isn’t sure that she can trust Angelo but he’s the only one that can calm the beast inside and make her feel safe in this sensational paranormal romance.

Angelo knows the only people that can help the young woman but trusting who they work for is another matter entirely and the readers can’t help but hang on to the edge of their seats as the anticipation and excitement builds as Angelo and Minka strive to control the beast. There is a sizzling attraction between Angelo and Minka but with everything going on and some other issues this may not be the best time for a relationship which adds to all the pressures and emotions flowing from the pages and these strong compelling characters have no problems keeping readers glued to the pages during their struggle for answers in this fast paced, smooth flowing plot full of suspense, excitement and romance.

All the well written scenes are full of vivid images that make it easy for readers to picture all of the intriguing events as Minka commandeers readers’ attentions from the very first pages and the more the story progresses the more ensnared in it they become as her fight to adjust to her new world is hampered by danger and intrigue among people she’s not sure can be trusted and excitement builds as Angelo and his friends come closer to finding who is behind the scientist and their horrific plans with an adrenaline pumping mission that adds lots of excitement and a few surprises.

Another exhilarating X-ops mission that kept me glued to the pages and sweating bullets until the very end, the DCO just keeps getting more intriguing with every mission and the sexy heroes and heroines more fascinating, so I can’t wait for the next mission.

This novel starts with a huge shock and keeps going from there. Lives are at stake and intrigue abounds as characters come one step closer closer to unraveling the ‘who done it’ of the series as a whole. The tale is action packed but focussed on the people. The intense interpersonal relationships brought forward a myriad of different issues that hit hard emotionally while also ramping up the forward momentum of the tale.

I enjoyed how Tyler told more than one couple’s story while focussing on Minka and Angelo. Minka’s vulnerabilities tugged at my heart, yet her strength in the face of both the cultural and biological socks that she faces is unforgettable. Minka definitely made an unbeatable and remarkably complex heroine for this tale. Angelo was the perfect counterpoint. Strong and steady with more than a hint of concern for Minka’s well being. His past played a large role in how he reacted to events, creating a bit of a paradox at times.

Tyler has once again created an action packed novel that combines the world of the paranormal with high stakes intrigue. It was a great addition to the series and a novel that will be hard to forget.

Well...this one sure opened with a bang. I hated that Minka was fighting for her life because while you didn't know her at all you could tell that people had hurt and used her in very bad ways. So when Angelo and his team showed up I cheered, that someone was there to help her. Even better was that Angelo was able to handle her beast. While it shouldn't have been funny, it was, the way that contact between Minka and Angelo calmed her beast. What wasn't funny was how sacred Minka was to not have Angelo around to control her beast.

I loved how Minka was as she learned about her new self and seeing things in America for the first time. The date at the movies and Minka getting Ted was so sweet, as was Minka asking about the unusual sleeping arrangements.

Minka's session with other shifters seemed to be eye opening for all of them. It seemed to give them all some peace to learn they weren't alone.

The mission at the end was a bit crazy! I hated that Minka had to go with, I wanted her to be protected. While they learned some great things, there were also horrible things they were forced to do.

I did love the change that Angelo's career took at the end. It made for a great HEA.

the most emotional installment.of the series. HFW continues the arc regarding the mad scientist Stutmier and his hybrid experiments. The dude's too slick though and managed to breed more of his beasts.

One of them is Minka. Girl's have serious PTSD and who could blame her? getting tortured must be horrific, surviving it And being haunted by its memories must be even more terrifying. I sympathized with Minks but I was unable to connect with her. I kept on comparing HFW to the previous books and I miss all the àction which there wasn't much of here.

The conspiracy theory involving government officials is still developing and I'm now waiting for DCO to strike. its going to be tricky but an exciting mission for sure.

I'm enjoying the X-Ops series as they release on audio, as I've always wanted to read them.  I haven't been reading too much PNR lately but this feels like romantic suspense with shifters. There is a new couple in each book.  So you could read them out of order, but I wouldn't.  I'm enjoying how the world and characters continue to develop.

An overview on the shifters in this world is they do not change completely. Their eyes change color and they may grow claws. They always have more strength, better hearing, healing and sense of smell than humans. They are born into human families and have just slight genetic differences.

Her Fierce Warrior was the same as other books in the series but different. Yeah, I'm a little confused myself.  I love Angelo and this is his story with Minka. I am baffled how he could survive in some of the situations he has battled in with hybrids and in this book. Angelo is a great guy and he is so compassionate about Minka. He steps in to save her and protect her, in spite of the personal difficulties it will cause him.

Minka was abducted, tortured and changed. I'm surprised she could trust anyone.  She really does well considering the difficulties she has survived. If anyone had any doubts, Dick is a total dick.

I have to say I was MUCH more interested in the overall story arc and some other couples who had small bits tucked into this story than this romance.  I can't wait to see how things go with Ivy's sister and her special forces guy.  The big shocker was at the end where we learn some new things about John!   I'm definitely continuing with this series.

Narration:
Holly Adams is the voice of the series for me now.  She does well with both male and female voices. Each book seems to have the point of view of each member of the couple.  The narration really works well for me.  I listened at my normal 1.5x speed.

ARC REVIEW

I keep forgetting that this is only book 4 in the X-OPS series. There is such a large cast of characters and such an in depth plot of conspiracy that it seems like a much longer series than it actually is; so far. I really liked this one it was perfectly paced and the action was suspenseful, the characters are all lust worthy. I love Minka's vulnerability and how her love for Angelo lets her embrace her new found strength and abilities. Angelo is a white knight, he is out to save everybody he can. After what happened with his mother he isn't willing to let anyone into his life only to be gone most of the year. Minka changes everything.

Minka was kidnapped and turned into a lab rat. She doesn't remember all what happened except for the strange stuff they injected her with and being repeatedly tortured and abused. She was able to escape and the monster the doctors put in her ran her to safety, when she finally regained control of her monster she was almost home only to be assaulted by local soldiers. Minka screamed and fought her assailants and suddenly her beast took over. she would have killed them all but something calmed her beast down.

Angelo and his team of Special Ops soldiers were doing a routine sweep of an area when a scream filled the air. Angelo and his team go rushing to the aid of the terrified woman not expecting to walk into a blood bath. Angelo recognized the woman for what she was, a hybrid. Thankfully Angelo was able to talk to her and keep her from attacking him and his men but then she did something strange she launched herself at Angelo and buried her nose into neck and inhaled; she calmed down but she wouldn't let go. Angelo convinced his LT to call the DCO, the Department of Covert Operations, and let them handle her but seeing that she wouldn't let go of him he went with her.

Landon and Ivy are called into Thomas Thorn's office. Landon and Ivy don't trust Thorn as far as they can throw him they believe that he is behind the Hybrid program that stole Ivy's DNA back in the first book. But Thorn is none the wiser thinks that they are on his side. When Minka and Angelo finally get to DCO headquarters they are met by Doctor Dick and Minka almost kills him, well that's foreboding. Minka and Angelo are given an apartment and get very close, Angelo has no plans to stay and Minka is willing to deal with it. Minka's childlike innocence is endearing and her passion is fierce, Angelo doesn't want to hurt her but her cant stop from loving her. Minka starts to see Zarina who teaches Minka about her beast and how it came to be and also started to help her learn how to control it. The DCO decides to use Minka to track down exactly where she was held and find it and destroy it and bring in the two Doctors behind the Hybrid program and that leads to one big cluster fuck.

Overall, this was a very exciting book it follows a couple more characters then just Minka and Angelo but that just more build up for the over all story arc. It probably can be read as a stand alone its pretty much explains everything, I missed the first two books and I feel a more like I'm missing something but not lost.

My Review:

Minka victim of being changed into a shifter is tortured and let loose after her escape with her beast off the leash stuck in lash out mode when she's discovered by Angelo.

I would suggest that you read previous books in the series to understand how Ivy is involved and just how many others are affected.

Angelo and Minka have the instant draw the moment he finds her which is interesting because you get the whole calming of the beast effect almost instantly.

It perks your attention because Angelo has always been devoted to his team and to being alone but you see his reaction to her and the change along with the conflict of whether he wants to remain with her or leave as he has been known to do.

I love all the cameo moments with the previous cast but you also have the multiple plot lines going on so its not just the romance, you get the action and the family dynamic along with it.

Her Fierce Warrior is a great read from beginning to end.

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Sexy Special Forces soldiers and ballsy shifter women that take names and give as good as they get highlight Paige Tyler's book, Her Fierce Warrior. This is an amazing series that just gets better with each new release. Ms. Tyler has created a secret government agency that pair shifters with a partner to accomplish covert missions. This series is filled with so many twist and convoluted turns, that you will find yourself wondering what is going on and saying WOW at the same time!

Kidnapped and experimented on by two evil doctors/scientist, Minka does not know who to trust. She managed to escape, but for how long can she stay out of their grasp. When she is rescued by a Special Forces soldier, even her 'Monster' recognized that Angelo belongs to them, he is their Angel! For some reason her inner beast is calmed by his presence, his scent, and just thought of him soothes her. Can she trust this soldier, Angelo? Everything inside her says yes!

He realized that she was a hybrid shifter, was scared and had been the focus of some locals that planned on raping her. Angelo’s first job was to calm her without getting himself killed or her injured. He had seen first hand what the evil monsters that created her were capable of! Calling on his former team leader, Landon Donovan, Angelo knew he would help him get her to safety and keep her safe. What Angelo had not counted on was the bonding that took place between him and Minka, the hybrid. Now he finds himself with her on his way to DC and in protector mode. She has become more than a mission!

This is an excellent addition to my Mystery/Suspense/Paranormal Romance library! The way Ms. Paige developed her characters and dialogue is brilliant. Her storyline is enhanced with the use of the characters and their interaction with each other. I am blown away with this unique novel and how it evolved into something more! Cannot wait for the next release.

Minka Pajari is running for her life. She doesn’t know where she is or where to go. She’s scared of everyone and herself because now she is different. Scientists have done something to her and she cannot control it.

Angelo Rios and his team of Special Forces soldiers come across a fracas and discover a mysterious woman with animal life features defending herself. Angelo shares an immediate connection with her and it turns out he is the only one that can calm Minka.

Angelo recognizes what is going on with Minka and knows who to call. As the Department of Covert Operations and Angelo try to help Minka danger stalks closely. Can Minka learn to live and adapt to her new life or will she succumb to the menace surrounding her?

Her Fierce Warrior is Freaking Awesome! I love, love, love this couple and the storyline. Paige Tyler is a master at paranormal suspense! Her werewolves are simply irresistible. Minka Pajari has been through hell but she has finally found a safe haven in the arms of Special Forces soldier Angelo Rios. Phew…Angelo is my kind of man! He is the perfect hero for Minka. Her journey throughout the novel is powerful and thrilling.

While Her Fierce Warrior can be read as a stand-alone novel I don’t recommend it. Tyler’s X-OPS series so exciting and the amazing world building continues in all of the books. For instance some of Minka’s story is tied to things that happened in book one, Her Perfect Mate. This is one of the things that I really love about Her Fierce Warrior and the series. I just adore when more secrets are spilled.

Her Fierce Warrior is overflowing with sublime passion and gritty suspense. The only downside is the fact that it was over too soon and now I’m forced to wait for the next book in the X-OPS series.

This book is a continuation of the X-Ops series. In this book we get to see several of the characters from previous books as well as getting the series to progress so it is best to read the series in order.

Sergeant First Class Angelo Rios is on a Special Forces is on a mission in Tajikstan when he finds Minka Pajari, a woman that has just escaped the facility that changed her into a shifter hybrid against her will. Angelo takes her the Department of Covert Operations (DCO) where other shifters work to help her deal with her new abilities.

I enjoyed getting more of Angelo. He was first mentioned in the first book of the series, Her Perfect Mate, and he caught my interest then. Minka has also been mentioned for a while but we just got to see glimpses for we never really got to know her. From the beginning Minka is very dependent of Angelo and he never seems to mind. Angelo is portrayed in the previous books as a player but he takes to Minka's constant presence with no real issues. From the beginning they just seem to click. That said I did think their relationship went too fast but that seems to be a trend for all the books in this series.

We get to see characters from previous books as well as get introduced to new ones. I like how Tyler connects all the books together so we get to see glimpses into the previous characters lives. I did miss Kendra and Declan since they are mentioned but aren't present. A bummer but hopefully in the next one.

I liked how the series arc is progressing. In each book things happen, the story moves and the plot thickens. I am excited to see where this series is going. There are several characters that I would like to see more from and I can't wait to see what happens next.

The past came back in a big way in this fourth book in Paige Tyler's X-OPS Series. It was an awesome ride that had me spellbound the entire way.

It was an incredible story because Minka turned out to be one of the first hybrids created from Ivy's DNA samples. She was only one of the people kidnapped and experimented on by the big bad guys of this series. But Minka was stronger and different from the rest (that we know of). She escaped her captors and was rescued by non other than our sexy special forces guy Angelo, who happens to know all about the shifters because of Ivy and Landon. At the heart of this story is that Minka is afraid of what her captors turned her into, and Angelo wants to protect her from everyone. They both want to stop this from happeneing to anyone else but to do that they have to put Minka right back into danger and that doesn't sit too well with the protective Angelo.

As usual, this book was so well written with loveable characters and an engaging plot. It was an intense but romantic read where the main characters don't know who to really trust and the author threw more than one twist into play. It was a very suspenseful read that had action, intrigue and passion to spare. I absolutely loved it !

Her Fierce Warrior is another fanatastic addition to this series and already has me looking forward to the next book.

Minka is a hybrid that Angelo found while on an Army Special Forces assignment in Tajikistan. Minka was running away from the doctors who had made and tortured her. She was out of control, but calmed around Angelo. Angelo escorted her back to the states and the Department of Covert Operations (the shifter organization).

Someone in the DCO is funding the rogue doctors, and the director of the DCO (John) is trying to discover who it is.

Minka and Angelo tangle with some of the chairmen of the DCO, and are forced to go on a deadly mission that has an ulterior motive.

If they survive that, the lovers will be separated when Angelo has to return to this Special Forces team.

I enjoyed this book. But the best parts...well, read on.

But first, I wondered why I expected there to be an explanation.

The absolute best parts of this book, however, were that some secrets were revealed. Some of them the reader already knew but were finally revealed to another character. But other secrets were revealed to the reader and were jaw-dropping game-changers! Wow! If you're reading this series, don't skip this one!

Good book. Angelo is used to seeing the weird things of the world but he wasn't prepared for Minka. She is dangerous, but wonderful. He should be afraid of her, but he is drawn to her and wants to protect her. Minka doesn't know why Angelo makes her feel safe, but it is a wonderful feeling after all that she has been through. Now Angelo has to deal with the facility and doctors he is forced to bring her to and also his blooming feelings for her.
I had read previous books in this series so I already knew most of the characters here. It was fun getting to know Angelo and Minka and how their relationship grew. I felt so sorry for Minka and the other hybrids. The experiments done to them were terrible. Angelo was great with her and I enjoyed watching him fight his feelings for her (though he didn't try too hard). I can't wait to see what happens next with these characters.
It was a 4/5 for me. I really liked seeing some answers to questions from previous books in the series.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via netgalley). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

To be honest, I actually started reading this series in the middle. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the first book I read, so I went back to the very beginning, and I know I made the right decision then. Paige Tyler's X-Ops series is just as good and entertaining as her SWAT series. When it comes to urban fantasy and shifter stuff, I already know I can rely on her to give me a good story.

In this book, I like the main characters both individually and together. I liked that the heroine had this unpredictable element to her. This is a woman who has survived a terrible fate. The hero was a great character. He really is a hero. He was a good man who was able to protect the heroine. This book has romance, suspense, and action succesfully incorporated into the paranormal world that Ms. Tyler has introduced in this series. Like any of her books, Her Fierce Warrior is really an engaging story that I truly enjoyed. I will be waiting here for the next book.

Aside from the main couple, and certain events, I can't say that this installment book of the X-Ops series is any more different than the previous installments.  Well, except for the second book which involved a serial killer instead of government conspiracies and shifter/hybrid experimentation, and lots of covert ops attacks and lots of explosions.

Because, to be totally honest, Her Fierce Warrior was not much different than the previous book, Her Wild Hero, (or even the first book, Her Perfect Mate), as we continue to follow the vein of the aforementioned government conspiracies, shifter/hybrid experimentation, and covert ops missions, and lots of explosions.

But I DID enjoy Her Fierce Warrior a little bit better if only because Minka and Angelo make a sweet couple, and their dialogue isn't quite as mushy and cheesy as the dialogue between Declan and Kendra had been.  And I also enjoyed Minka's revelations as she learned more about what happened to her, as well as how best to control the beast within her.  I liked the little sessions (what few brief ones we saw) between her, Layla, Ivy, and Tanner.  I liked that Ivy and Layla were able to embrace her as a sister--since she had been experimented on using Ivy's DNA, and I liked that Tanner, another human-turned-hybrid, was able to teach her how to take control of her beast rages and anger.

The "slow" romantic development between Angelo and Minka felt a bit awkward and deliberate, considering the fact that you know they're going to end up having sex at some point.  The fact that Angelo kept putting it off to be honorable or something like that felt a bit fake, but his efforts are appreciated, I suppose.

There's not a whole lot else to say about this book.

And to be honest, while I really DID enjoy reading Her Fierce Warrior, and found it easy to hook into, I would like to have a different kind of story line next book.  We don't have to completely abolish the whole government conspiracy and shifter/hybrid experimentation angle... but something with a different formula might be more to my liking.

But we'll see what the next book brings.

Minka has just escaped from being tortured and turned into a creature she doesn't recognize...a monster. She is frightened and determined to escape from those that tormented her. But after she is attacked and defends herself and turns into a rogue, there is one person that brings calm to her inner beast and brings her back...a sexy military agent Angelo. Minka is brought back to the center, where she goes under counseling, and recovery and learning to control herself and the inner animal that lives inside her. Meanwhile there is a plot of traitors and Minka and Angelo will need to join forces to get to the bottom of it.
Plot and Story Line
In Her Fierce Warrior we have another fantastic story that Paige Tyler. I have enjoyed this world that she has created and we get another great addition. We also get another fun romance here. I liked this story and seeing more progression in the series of certain events and truths revealed. We see more from Landon and Ivy, the building romance with our next couple in the series, and some fun bantering between our favorite side characters. What I liked is having another rogue being a main character. Minka's story was pretty heartbreaking and pulls at your heart in moments. I loved her strengths and also her vulnerabilities. I loved how Paige Tyler really brings to light the consequences on a person who suffers from torture or PTSD and showing ways to heal and recover under various circumstances. I loved the strength that Minka has here...she is a winning heroine. The romance that is between Angelo and Minka is fun and engaging. I did love how these two come together, and there isn't much conflict that holds them back from each except for Angelo still being in the military. What I loved about these two, is how they embrace the moments they have together and make the most of them. I really liked the teaser at the end that makes me excited for Layla's book and maybe some more truths revealed about the traitors involved.
The Cover
What a great cover, and I love the intense feel to it that really gives off the right feels for the book!! I love the green tones, and the poses here.
Overall View

BOOK SYNOPSIS

The woman tensed. As anger and fear ricocheted across her face, her eyes changed from red to green to brown in a dizzying display like nothing he'd ever seen.

Every instinct in Angelo's body screamed at him to lunge for his weapon. Instead he set his feet for impact, blocking her slashing claws. Unbelievably, after a few moments of struggling, she went still, all the fight gone…

My Thoughts

Nice change to have the hero be the human and the heroine the paranormal entity, what worked for me the most was not only that Angelo had so much patience where Minka was concerned but so much respect for her as a human woman rather than focusing on her inhuman qualities like everyone else seemed prone to do.

The gradual shift from protector to romantic interest was one that Angelo made with even more patience as well as with a speed that is standard in most PNR reads but no less enjoyable to me despite it being rather predictable

If ever get the chance to read first 3 in series again will totally do so in a heartbeat, however book 4 worked fine as a stand alone for me as it's main focus was on Minka and Angelo.

The new couple are great together and the hybrid/natural born shifter angle is a fantastic change of pace in this paranormal world that I am enjoying learning about.

With every new book love author Paige Tyler’s style, and her writing has impressed me so far as I find myself having trouble deciding which is my favorite story and characters.

Since I adore the Swat series by author Paige Tyler and even though this is the 4th book of the X-Ops series took a chance on reading it and was not surprised to find it was as good a story and characters as I expected.

My Review:
I've been a big fan of this series from the very beginning and this was a good installment.

Minka is a hybrid who was changed against her will in Tajikistan (I think I have the right country). She escaped and has been running for her life, scared to death of the monster who now lives inside her body with her. She has zero control and she's terrified. As a result, she loses control of her shifter side fairly regularly. She's also a lone woman in a country that doesn't like that. As a result, she's in the process of taking out a gang of men who were trying to attack her when Angelo's Spec Ops team finds her. They know about shifters and hybrids through another of their teammates who they helped in a previous book so they know exactly what they're dealing with when they find Minka.

There's an instant connection between Angelo and Minka that only works in shifter books where the reader can suspend disbelief. Without him touching her or being right there, she loses control of her shifter side. So Angelo has to leave his team to escort her back to the states and the DCO facility.

I liked how Paige Tyler wrote Minka's backstory. Yes, she's from this area of the world, but her father is Russian so she's been exposed to more than just the Muslim world. As it is, going to DC is an eye-opening experience for someone who hasn't lived in the western world. Minka is dealing with a LOT.

The book starts off in a crazy action-packed scene, but it does settle a little bit from there. The DCO is a very political organization with a lot of people pushing and pulling at what's happening there. Minka and Angelo get caught up a bit in that, but I loved what a great team they make. There were also several other stories happening in the background filling in the details and suspense aspects of the entire world that are playing out throughout the entire series. I like where things were going in this book and am definitely looking forward to more from the series.

I love shifter and military suspense. This series is a fantastic combination of both things to create a really believable story line. I definitely recommend both this book and the series. Each book in the series follows an individual couple. As a result, you could read them all as stand-alones. Where you might run into a bit of confusion is in the political threads running through them that build in each book. If you're on the fence, I say grab one and give it a try. i think you'll want to check them all out.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I like that this series has a little twist to the shifter and hybrid genre in regards to their actual shifting. The storyline of secret labs is not knew however but it was well written and kept me reading. I appreciated that the author didn’t go over the top on Minka and her new reality. Not only being a shifter hybrid but given her upbringing, being around men in general. Angelo was the perfect hero for her with his strong but gentle patience and their relationship flowed well into a nice hot romance. A fun addition to an action packed series.

Minka slipped her hand into his long silky hair, kissing him with a passion she’d never realized a person could feel. Maybe it was the beast inside her, or maybe it was just being with Angelo.

Those who love Laurann Dohner's New Species series or Lora Leigh's Breed series, there is a new author in town. Ms. Tyler's X-Ops series hooks me in and I cannot get enough of it. This fourth book in the series is just as non-stop action as the first three. This one focuses on Minka, a hybrid turned against her will. Whilst this story can technically be read as a standalone, I do not recommend it. I started the first few pages and decided it was best to go read the series from the beginning. After delightfully reading the first three books, I dived into this one with a much needed background.

Minka barely escapes the people who torture her. When she tries to return home, she is accosted by men who believe lone females are asking for being raped and killed. Minka's new enhanced body takes exception to this and decides to come out and play. Frankly, of all the shifters in this series, I like Minka's the best. Her beast is blood thirsty and knows when to be violent. I love it.

To pair up with Minka's new deadly body, Angelo becomes her knight in shining armor. Readers met Angelo earlier in the previous books and it is so good to see him finding his own woman. The romance between him and Minka is tentative and sweet. Ms. Tyler does an excellent job of having this sexy undercurrent between the two. The focus of this story is still about finding out who is funding these abominable experimentations. Each book reveals a little be more. This pulls a reader deeper into this world and makes a reader want to learn more. The desire for Ms. Tyler to write faster so that the bad guys can be caught is strong. Ms. Tyler weaves a fabulous story filled with love, betrayal and honour. The story moves at a good pace with great character development and good suspense. This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy suspense and conspiracies.

Another high energy, pnr/romantic suspense from the fantastic Paige Tyler. Although this book can be read standalone I believe you will enjoy it so much more if you’ve read the others first. In this installment we are given some answers and a whole lot more questions. We meet Minka running from the sadistic bastards who have injected her with a serum made with Ivy’s harvested DNA creating a beast inside her that she doesn’t understand. It is her good luck that she runs into the one American company of service men who get what she is and can get her help. She attaches to Angelo and won’t let go. He grounds her. So he is charged with bringing her back to America and the DCO where nothing is as it seems and there are multiple games in play. But between Angelo and the good folks at DCO Minka is given every tool to get the beast inside under control but not much time. I really like Minka. She isn’t perfect but she is real. Angelo is hot and kind and also not perfect. These two are made for each other. Run and get this series.

Marie's Tempting Reads Netgalley ARC Review:

SOOOOO GOOD! This was my first thought after reading chapter 1! This series is truly delectable and fiercely sexy. Paige Tyler knows how to write a decadent, page-turning romance with lots of heart pounding action and SUPER HOT SEX. I felt for Minka. She was mad into something else by some cruel and evil scientists and when she escapes and makes her way home, Angelo and his team find her. She brings out all his protective instincts. He wants to fight her demons and help her cope with her new reality. I found him utterly sexy and his protectiveness toward her just melted me. Minka is surprisingly fierce, yet has that vulnerability that had ME wanting to hug her and console her.
This book was an absolute page-turner. I couldn't...no I DIDN'T want to put it down! I cherished every word and every chapter. I find myself enthralled with Paige Tyler and her books. It has the perfect balance of steamy, seductive sex, and on-the-edge-of-your-seat action. A truly phenomenal read!

Her Fierce Warrior gets a ACTION-PACKED FIVE SHOOTING STARS! I loved the writing, the characters, and the whole darn story. I can't wait to see whats next!
