Rate this book
Are you ready to view faith and Christianity in the same way you would your favorite pair of jeans? Comfort is essential and so is joy. In The Blue Jeans Gospel, author Rob Cruver cuts through misunderstandings and complicated rules and practices of modern Christianity by focusing on its core message of loving, living, and serving others. In this inspiring book, Cruver invites you to love, live, and serve as Jesus did. Through scripture and personal stories, Rob Cruver shows us how to develop a real and comfortable relationship with Jesus. He teaches us about love and how we should live relationally, with forgiveness and humility. He also encourages us to do this even when the blue jeans aren’t necessarily that comfortable. The author’s straightforward message of compassion and understanding is both refreshing and uplifting.

Have you ever had to work through something that you just didn’t get no matter how you tried? Then someone shows you a new way of looking at it and all of a sudden it makes sense? That is how I felt when I read The Blue Jeans Gospel…it all clicked into place.

Rob Cruver explains in detail and with Biblical examples of what God expects from us and how this will bring us closer to having a more comfortable relationship with God….just as you are when wearing a comfortable pair of blue jeans. Mr. Cruver breaks down God’s expectations into two areas of life. First he explains how to live by living as Jesus lived. Second, he discusses how to serve and have a servant’s heart just as Jesus did.

Rob Cruver breaks down each of these sections in such a clear way that areas that were personally vague for me were broken open with understanding shining through. I was particularly focused on his discussion on forgiveness and what exactly that act is. Forgiveness has been described to me in so many different ways I was reeling with the understanding of it. If you forgive did it mean you had to act as if the hurt and pain caused no longer exists? So if you are devastated by the actions of someone and they say they are sorry and you respond with they are forgiven, what happens to that pain? Once you forgive is that the end of the situation? In The Blue Jeans Gospel, Rob Cruver shows how forgiveness truly works and how it will not only affect the one offering the forgiveness but the one who is asking for it. The amazing clarity this author gave me into this area of confusion will forever be treasured.

How we live, and I mean what we want to feel and project to others, speaks about our character. Rob Cruver explains how to show ourselves as living our lives according to the example set by Jesus. Love. Forgiveness. Humility. Living our lives with these three characteristics as our foundation we will live and grow closer in our relationship with God as HE has asked us. God’s wishes for us do not end with these three, but continues with living a life of a servant. God asks that we serve HIM and others with love. The Blue Jeans Gospel is a unique way of looking and understanding what God wants from us. There will be times as Rob Cruver points out that we will not be comfortable and those jeans will not feel right, but we need to continue wearing and stretching those uncomfortable jeans.

I recommend this book to anyone who is searching for a closer relationship with God and understanding what HE wants us to do. Rob Cruver has written a book that will open the eyes of many who have had misunderstandings that have kept them from becoming more like Jesus.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review which was my pleasure to provide.

This book had been in my To-Be-Read stack for a while. I would take a peek at it, and then put is aside for another day. Then one day, I dived into it, and oh my, I'm so sad that I didn't devour it weeks ago!

Pastor Rob Cruver presents a unique approach to having a close and real relationship with Jesus and God in this fantastic book. He compares how we should look to Jesus as someone we can be comfortable with, someone we can have a real friendship with, someone as familiar as a favorite pair of blue jeans. And Pastor Cruver goes on to share how looking at God as our Father, as someone we can turn to in times of sadness and of joy, as a real "father" figure in our lives, the ultimate Father in our lives.

Written in a easy, comfortable style, Pastor Cruver uses personal stories to get his points across with a generous helping of Scripture to boost his views along the way. It is rare to find a book that so completely captures your attention as this one has captured mine.

This book would be perfect for new Christians, young Christians, and anyone who is looking for a new and wonderful friendship and relationship with our Lord and Savior! I'm so glad I went back and retrieved this book - it will be one I refer back to time and time again!

I think Pastor Cruver perfectly sums up "The Blue Jean Gospel" with this quote from his epilogue:

"Each day is a fresh opportunity to listen and to respond to the Lord and to love, live and serve His glory. All around us are people who desperately need to know love, hear truth, and find hope. They are watching and listening and waiting. It's time to live real, put on those jeans, and reach up and reach out!"

Blue Jeans Gospel compares blue jeans with the gospel I love my blue jeans. I wear it as often as I can. It's soft and comfortable. It fits me just how I like it. It's even starting to wear at the seams where my son giggled as he poked his finger through my jeans and touched my leg! But what does blue jeans have anything to do with the gospel? I was intrigued when I saw this title in a sea of others. There was no way this blue jean loving lady was going to pass up a book titled Blue Jeans Gospel! There's got to be a connection!!

Well, there's apparently a fantastic connection between blue jeans and the gospel. I don't know about you, but I love it when my blue jeans is fitted just so and wearing it increases my self-confidence. Similarly, the gospel is to be worn comfortably on our heart!

When you read and believe the scriptures, it becomes a part of you. It fits in your heart as you cherish the direction and guidance and integrity it fills you with. Blue Jeans Gospel will guide readers to getting the gospel to fit your heart like your blue jeans fits your body!

Now I'm picturing the scriptures covering my heart snug and soft like my favorite pair of blue jeans fits my body. I hope this easy to read book makes you feel this way as well!

Thank you to NetGalley and River Grove Books for this free readers edition. In exchange I am providing an honest review.

Originally I gave this title 2 stars. I am revising my stars to zero.

The reason I am doing so is that since reading this title, several things about my faith journey and expression have changed and I no longer subscribe to evangelical ideologies.

Jesus is worthy and has an amazing gospel. "Blue Jeans" is a reminder that walking with Jesus is natural and real. I love my blue jeans. Whether jeans are new and stiff or worn in with frays and holes (which are higher in value)- enjoy your blue jeans. This is an enjoyable read
