What would you do if a five hundred year old witch wanted to turn your body into her new home?
Morcant and Blake Korrigan own a little shop of horrors, where witches congregate and people ending up dead isn’t rare. When Karen Hiltzman joins their coven, she has no idea what she’s getting into. Drawn in, the group convinces her to recruit her best friend, Sarah Matthews, after discovering that she bears a very special birthmark; one that indicates she’s the girl they’ve been waiting for.
Eager to reincarnate a witch put to death by an angry mob five hundred years prior, Morcant unleashes a spell; a dark and sinister curse. His ritual transforms Sarah’s body and will bring the dreaded Brenna back to life when it’s completed. Blake wants to stop him; but will he be strong enough to defeat his elder sibling, and if he does… will he be able to let her go when it’s done?

With a relentless zest for life, she enjoys action and adventure, as well as all the love and romance it has to offer. I was really excited to get into this story. Anything with witches where they are portrayed as normal human beings (vs green Halloween monsters) I love to read.
I hadn’t read the blurb when I went into this. I just knew who told me about it and know that any time she has a blog tour (even though I rarely do those anymore so that I have time to read the books I have bought) or she gives me a recommendation, that I have loved every single book. She has yet to steer me wrong.
Seeing as I hadn’t read the blurb, I wasn’t sure who this story was going to center on (Karen or Sarah) as I started reading it and it took me a few pages to zero in on that. That’s not a bad thing at all, it’s actually one of the reasons I don’t read blurbs a lot. I don’t want to know going in.
I’m not going to do a recap since you can see the blurb above, I’m just going to jump into our characters and storyline.
This was really different for me, even with as many books as I read that have witches as main characters. I’ve read books where characters were possessed by long ago witches, usually for some sinister or possibly helpful to future generations purpose, but I haven’t read one where the witch wanted to completely reincarnate in a person and take over their life forever.
The Wicked Awakened was fast paced and well written with a great story line. Morcant creeped me out from the start. I just picture him as that sleezy dude at the party that for unknown reason girls hang on, the guy who makes your skin crawl when his eyes focus on you.
I did not know where to go with Blake, which I think was the point, to keep us guessing as to where his loyalties really lie. Did they lie with Sarah or would family ties keep him loyal to his brother? It wasn’t close to the end when I felt I was fully confident in who he was going to side with completely. I liked him a lot, I just couldn’t completely let my guard down with him (can we say that about a fictional character?) with him for a long time.
Wait til you get a bit of a glimpse of Brenna, I was sitting there reading and thinking … um yeah, Sarah is going to regret this in the morning. Brenna’s got a little bit of freaky going on. Excellent use of both of those characters.
All in all, great book, definitely something that can be enjoyed year round, but perfect to have been released this month with Halloween coming upon us. I will be looking for more books by Samantha Jacobey!
Thank you so much for my copy of The Wicked Awakened! I really enjoyed it!
Samantha Jacobey's, The Wicked Awakened, is perfect for a Halloween read.
Sarah and her childhood best friend, Karen, are off to college. Unlike Karen, Sarah is dedicated to her studies, while Karen has... other interests.
As an aside, I found the relationship between these two childhood friends fascinating. The author does an excellent job of conveying how often close friendships from childhood are bonded in trauma and also, mask all kinds of resentments.
What becomes the heart of the story is their interest about witchcraft. In high school, both girls flirted with Wiccan, but Karen's ties go deeper than Sarah expected.
Mixed up with an evil coven, Karen finds out that they're focused on recruiting Sarah. This is where things go bump in the night for Sarah. The author does a great job of giving creative and original twists on stories involving the occult. I have to say, I was completely taken off guard by some of the twists and turns.
Underlying all of it is a sweet romance and a tale of friendship.
For mature, over 18, audiences only for explicit sexual situations and implied violence. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal romance and those looking for a twisted thriller with supernatural undertones.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking a Halloween read.
Sarah Matthews was born with a birthmark and that is all of a sudden getting her into problems she has no control over. Her best friend Karen is bringing Sarah unknowingly into a dark world where she may not survive.
Morcant is after Sarah and will do anything to get control over her. Anything.
When Sarah finds herself in serious trouble she gets help from Blake Korrigan but Sarah doesn't know if she can trust him either.
Will Sarah discover who she can really trust and can she escape from someone who has been around so much longer than she has?
I loved Sarah and her character and the development of her coming into her own. I found myself unsure of who I could trust as I was reading! There was so much mystery and I had no idea what was going to happen next! Loved it!!
Sarah Matthews and her best friend Karen dabbled in witchcraft when they were younger. Sarah moved away from it and concentrated on her studies, while Karen moved deeper into the craft. When Sarah meets Blake, she doesn't believe he can like a girl like her, but she goes out with him anyway. She isn't aware that someone out there wants her, and not to date but for his own nefarious purpose, or that Blake has a reason for getting close to her.
This story will suck you in as you travel through its pages. I recommend you get your copy now.
I am not one to read paranormal very much, however, I was able to beat this one and it was awesome!
Morcant and Blake ask their new coven member, Karen to recruit her best friend, Sarah, who has a birthmark the guys have been waiting centuries to see. Lots of magical things going on in this book, from curses being spent, to reincarnation, you won't want to miss this one!
We meet Sarah and Karen, who go to a market and Karen buys Sarah a necklace with a symbol on. Karen is part of a coven and Sarah doesn't believe in that stuff no more. From day one of having got this new necklace it all goes wrong. Will Sarah survive it all? What will happen to them all. What a great read. I recommend this book.
Samantha Jacobey is one of my favorite authors. This book is really good. It will keep you wondering, whats going to happen next, did that really just happen. There is a good love story in there also.
The Wicked Awakened was a good read by Samantha Jacobey. Morcant and Blake own a little shop of horrors. It's here that witches congregate and people end up dead. Karen Hiltzman joins the coven and is convinced to recruit her best friend Sarah Matthews. They are hoping that Sarah will be the new vessel for a five hundred year old witch. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
This is not my first book by Samantha Jacobey. This is the first paranormal book I have read of hers. It is totally different from her New Life series. Instead of the main character running away from a MC gang, she's running from a 500yr old dead witch. It's also about best friends questioning their friendship as well.
Sarah and Karen have been best friends most of their lives. But, lately their friendship hasn't been the same. When they were teenagers they went through the goth stage. Sarah had stopped believing in it unlike Karen. Now, they're in college and doing totally different things. While Sarah spends all her free time studying her BFF has been hanging out with a new coven. While she isn't actually a part of it her boyfriend Morcant is head of it and she is fully in with the coven.
Sarah was born with a weird looking birthmark. Karen mentioned it while hanging out with Morcant and the other coven members. Morcant feels like he just woke up on Christmas morning. That birthmark is a sign that they can bring back Brenna, who's been dead for 500 years. Brenna was a very dark, evil and powerful witch who was put to death. Morcant will do whatever it takes to bring her back.
When Karen realizes that things aren't how Morcant has said they were, there's only one person she can go too. Morcant younger brother Blake. They are brothers but nothing alike. They're literally good witch bad witch lol. Blake promises Karen he will help keep Sarah safe. Because, if Morcant gets his way Sarah will die and Brenna will be alive and living in Sarah body. If that wasn't hard enough he must gain Sarah trust.
This was a quick fast read. I haven't read a paranormal book in a while and this was a nice change. I loved how Samantha wrote Sarah and Karen friendship. As a woman I know how it is. We have friends and we don't always get along all the time. But, we'd do anything to help our friend if they were in trouble. That's exactly how Samantha portrayed Sarah and Karen. I really liked Blake. Sarah didn't make anything easy on him. He could've given up and thrown in the towel and told her good luck. But, he never gave up. Even though he knew his brother was a very dark and dangerous witch he never backed down. He's somebody I'd want in my corner helping me! All in all this was a nice fast paced book!!
Sarah Matthews quiet, simple life is about to be turned upside down thanks to a coven that wants to use her body to bring back the spirit of Brenna, a 500 year-old witch. Together with her friend Karen and her new boyfriend, Blake she must find a way to prevent Morcant and his coven from succeeding in their plan. With time running out, will Sarah be able to stop Morcant and Brenna.
I loved the premise of the story and Sarah she's a character I could relate to because she was a bit self-conscious. At times, she comes across as standoffish, but after learning that people have been lying to her, you can't blame her for not trusting others. Karen is her best friend, who practices witchcraft. Their friendship suffered due to Karen's involvement with witchcraft and the coven, but as the story progresses Sarah must lean on Karen for support and they start to become close again.
To help in their fight against the coven, Karen enlists Blake, a former coven member and witch. At first, Blake comes across as shallow, but as learn about his past and the pain he endured, you realize deep down he's a good guy. In the beginning, Sarah and Blake's relationship gets off to a bad start, then as the story moves along their feelings for each other deepen.
The story is great and it had a few plot twists throughout that I wasn't expecting. I was left wondering what else would happen Sarah and if she'd stop the reckoning from happening.
If you're a fan of paranormal stories with witches and a little romance thrown in, I suggest you check out this book.
This is a very fast paced, intriguing book that really held my attention and I just HAD to finish and discover the truth and secrets in the story as soon as I could!
Sarah lives in a shared house with her best friend Karen who is in to the whole goth genre which Sarah outgrew a few years ago. Whilst out shopping Karen buys Sarah a necklace which has been pre arranged by Morcant the head of the witches coven, this necklace has a deeper meaning than both Karen and Sarah realise. Karen wants to been inducted into the witches coven and agrees to help them get to Sarah but she doesn't realise the trouble she is about to get her friend into!
Sarah starts to transform into an older witch that is trying to take over her body and this causes Sarah to behave in a way that is totally out of character, so parts of this had me literally laughing out loud one minute and gob smacked into silence the next! I thoroughly enjoyed the switch between the two!
This story was fast paced and had loads of action and suspense which drives you to uncover the truth and find out if everything works out or if they are doomed to be cursed.
The intimate scenes were HOT HOT HOT! They were also distinctly different from what you would expect from quiet natured Sarah!
I would definitely recommend this for anyone who likes the paranormal genre and also if its not something you usually read but want a fast paced Halloween novel that you will remember!
This was a book that I took a chance on and I can’t say that I sorry I did. Normally one that just skims over the synopsis of a book, I had a feel of what the book was going to contain but not complete understanding of it. Going into the Halloween season I figure I need a change from what I had been reading and gear up for some tricks and treats. I was very impressed at how much goes on with this fast read.
This is a story of magic, death and witches. Sarah is pulled into a group of witches that want her for more than just a new addition to their coven. Sarah has been dragged into a shop that is owned by Morcant and Blake Korrigan by her best friend Karen. Karen has been convinced by the group to bring in Sarah after they have learned of her special birthmark.
They want to bring a witch that was put to death 500 years ago. Brenna will take over Sarah’s body once the spell that is cast by Morcant is completed. Blake not wanting any part of brings Brenna back will go to any length to help defeat his elder sibling.
I was amazed how fast this story took off and how much it draws you in. I love the suspense of what was to come. Samantha take you on a ride with this one that can take off in so many directions that it keep you on your toes. Keeping me on my toes is not an easy thing to do. I am looking forward to more great reads from Samantha in the future.
Sarah Matthews was a quite girl that had a simple life which was about o be turned upside down thanks to the coven who wants to use her body to bring back a 500 year old spirit witch called Brenna. With her friend Karen and her boyfriend Blake, they must fine a way to prevent Marcant and the coven from succeeding in their plans, and as time is running out. Will Sarah be able to stop him (Marcant)and Brenna? I totally enjoyed the story and as for Sarah character I could totally relate to, as I was reading I got thinking that Sarah sometimes was standoffish ,but that is because people have been lying to her and she doesn't trust others easily. Sarah's best friend Karen practices witch craft also, and their friendship suffers because of that involvement. I could go on and tell you more about this story but that would be giving spoilers out about this great read. I highly recommend you to read this great book you won't be disappointed
Well this was a great, different read for me! I'm not a huge paranormal fan, but I thought this sounded good and it's the season for all things scary!
Sarah has a birthmark that starts to get her into trouble she can't control. Morcant wants Sarah because of this and recruits Sarah's best friend Karen to help. Sarah realizes she needs help so she goes to Blake but I wasn't sure Blake could be trusted. Actually, I wasn't sure who was trustworthy through this whole book.
"You are a part of this Sarah," he clasped her arms below the shoulders and squeezed, "You've been a part of it since you were born; when you were marked."
This book has a lot of twists and turns and really kept me guessing until the end and I love that in a book. Nothing predictable here. I would highly recommend this book! Great read!!
This story was not my usual read! But you know what, I loved it! Just fyi, there is an paranormal touch to it that will have your emotions flying all over the place.
Sarah is a goodie two shoes that her whole life has revolved around her academic status. She is born a unique birthmark that has made her different her whole life. Later on in the story you will get the reason for the birthmark....
Sarah's best friend is Karen, they have been friends since her childhood and back in the days they messed around with magic.
Later in life the magic comes back to haunt them.
The blunt truth- different, but in a great way, there is magic, evil men, romance , and a budding friendship.
You wonder if Sarah will trust Blake. From the beginning, you are on a spell binding ride of a story!
Sometimes you are not aware of the things that are around you until you are confronted by them... Sarah is just trying to make the best out of life while studying in school with her bff Karen... Karen is still stuck in her teenage years and believes in magic. Sarah does not which has caused a riff in their friendship. Blake is trying to stop his evil brother from hurting those around him..
Sarah learns that she is more than your average college student and struggles at first before embracing who she really is.
I enjoyed this book and was able to follow it I felt it was well written and provided me with enough details for the length. I love Blake in this book, there is just something about him that makes your heart skip a beat or two.
Sarah has to learn to navigate the world she had been brought into but with Blake's help she is able to do that a more.
The Wicked Awakened is a great read. It's full of suspense, curses, spells and witches. This was a quick read for me because of all the suspense and action. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
The characters are well written and intriguing. They sucked me into this story but I never knew who Sarah should trust. Blake seems like he has genuine feelings for Sarah but he is also part of the coven that wants to reincarnate Brenna through Sarah. I found myself never knowing if i truly believed what Blake's intentions were, this added a lot to the suspense of the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes witch craft, reincarnation, paranormal type books. This is not my favorite genre but I love Ms Jacobey's work and this book lived up to my expectations of being a great read from one of my go to authors.
A Paranormal Read Just in Time for Halloween I liked the premise for this book very much, as soon as I read the synopsis, I was like hell yeah I want to read this book! Unfortunately for me this book just didn't really live up to my expectations. It had so much potential and did tell the story promised, but nothing really popped for me, the witches, especially the 500 year old one I expected to be more scary, and less... slutty. I really wanted to like this book, but it just fell flat for me. I'm giving the book stars because as I mentioned I did like the premise and I appreciate the authors effort, I just wish it had been better executed.
Karen and Sarah have been friends since childhood. They believed in witchery when they were younger. They are in college now, Sarah studies hard. Karen is still interested in witch craft and gets involved with Morcant who convinces Karen to get Sarah join them. What happens when a five hundred year old witch tries to return? Samantha Jacobey has a way with words that gets your interest and keeps it for the entire book.
While an interesting concept, the overuse of bizarre terms (mostly notably during sex scenes) and cliches, repetitive phrases, the misuse and overuse of semi-colons, lack of character depth, and rapid transitions in speaking style and character behavior made the story difficult to follow. Often, instead of being drawn to the characters, I found myself feeling like I got lost somewhere or missed something. I liked the idea, but the execution could have been better.
copy of this book from the author, for an honest review. at first the book was a little slow moving which almost deterred me but alas I was a paranormal addict and had to keep reading.
I want to say that I loved all the characters. They were all well written, and well put together. I can't wait to read more from this author
Wickedly awesome. I have always loved a good paranormal, but this is by far a favorite now. The characters are amazing and the story very well written. I loved it!
Another great story by Ms. Jacobey. I loved the characters. This is a great story full of witches, betrayal, non-stop action, murder and more! A perfect book for reading around Halloween. I loved it.
If you are looking for a spooky Halloween read then this is the book for you. Can Sarah and her best friend stop the coven and the return of a 500 year old witch , will Sarah survive to tell this tale! Another great read by Samantha Jacobey
