Soul Magic is the second book in the Wing Slayer Series. The first book in the series is great and this book is no different.

The Wing Slayers are still fighting the demon curse and the rogues. There is a lot going on in this book so I had to pay a lot of attention to get it all sorted for my review. The Wing Slayers are hot dudes; Axel, Key, Ram, Sutton, Phoenix and Linc are fighting the blood curse. They want to protect witches and not kill them otherwise they will turn rogue and lose their soul.

Technically the books can be read as standalones but I would recommend reading from the beginning due to the continuation of the overall plot within the books.

We meet Sutton and Carla in book 1. Sutton saves Carla but tastes her blood and things start to change between them.

Carla and Sutton couldn’t be more different but it works.
Carla is a psychologist and works with brainwashed victims in cults. She uses her magic to help as well. I liked Carla and I didn’t but boy did she annoy the shite out of me, with the whole “I can’t be your soul mirror” Pfft! You are but all are tested by the Ancestors and Wing Slayers.

Sutton is a Wing Slayer and he is the best book boyfriend so far. He is clever, fun and a real sweetheart. He did everything in his power to save Carla. His father went nearly went rogue and his uncle as well. He himself feels it coming.

After Sutton tasted Carla’s blood, Carla started to find changes with her powers after two months she founds out a horrible truth.
Carla’s twin sister is captured in a silver knife by a rogue witch hunter and is slowly dying. With the help of the eagle (Sutton) they try to save her. This book is complex and a great story to read although I must say it did drag in places.

Definitely a series to continue with.

This book made me realize the importance of writing reviews. Cause I had no idea what happened in the last book when I started this.
No idea, no clue, no inkling, no hint, not even a gist of things. You can see how it would be disconcerting...

So here's the thing. Was this bad? No. But it still wasn't anything to write home about. I read it in one sitting but I don't have anything to "review".
Shit went down but there wouldn't be much left to read if I talked about it here, you gettin' me?
I found it to be a great escape though. Like it numbed my mind and had me engrossed, made me forget the world around me.

So if you're looking to forget yourself, this book is for you.

I liked this one a lot. Not as much as Blood Magic (Wing Slayer Hunters, #1) by Jennifer Lyon but still very good. The main let down for me was Carla. She wasn't TSTL, but she had some TSTL moments. Also, the story started to drag a bit between about the 70%-90% range. Otherwise it was good. Sutton is a complete and total sweetheart. I loved him so much. The battle continues between the rogues and The Witch Hunter Slayers and the WHS battle to fight the curse and not turn rogue. I love this world Jennifer Lyons has created. Witches and warriors and deamons and gods and celestial ancestors, Oh My! A plethora of PNR goodness with lots of steamy sex thrown in for good measure. I'm looking forward to more stories in the series coming soon. Happy reading!

This book was kind of a mess, which was disappointing since I really liked Carla and Sutton. I thought at least their part of the story was a nice mixture of angst and romance but all the other stuff going on just felt like it was pulled out of the author's ass with little thought to whether it made sense or even needed to be there. Anyways there is still a ton of squicky elements but there was plenty of hot stuff too. Not sure if I'm going to go farther with this series or not.

I discovered Jennifer Lyon’s first book in her Wing Slayer series, Blood Magic, on a whim earlier this year. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it and was eager to read Soul Magic and Sutton’s story.
Sutton West is one of a race of Wing Slayer Hunters that have been cursed. They crave witches blood, using sex to ease their hunger. If they succumb and drink the blood of a witch, they turn rogue, and kill the witches with a never-ending hunger. Sutton and his friends track and kill these rogue hunters trying to save as many witches as they can. It is not until they find their soul-mirror, or life partner, that the blood lust is satisfied and they are not in danger of losing their soul.

Sutton had a “taste” of Carla’s blood at the end of Blood Magic and for the past two months, he can’t get her out of his mind. He does not want to have sex with any other woman, which is putting him on edge. Sutton’s wings is that of an eagle tattooed on his back, and his eagle is not happy. Carla is a witch and also a psychologist. She runs a house helping to reverse the effects of brainwashing on females who have been rescued from cults. Her dreams have been crowded with vision of Sutton these past two months.

It comes to the attention of the Wing Slayer Hunters that someone is brainwashing mortal women and using them to kill the Wing Slayers. Carla can open her chakras and go into the astral plane – a plane where Carla’s spirit goes while her physical body stays “on Earth.” Here, she can help the womens spirits by reversing their brainwashing. But it is also here where she discovers the soul of her twin sister, who was murdered two years ago by a rogue hunter, is trapped. Her sister is calling for her help and giving her clues that "the eagle" can help her.

Sutton can’t keep his desire away for Carla any longer and it soon becomes clear that they are each other’s soul-mirrors – or it becomes clear to Sutton. Carla is worried that Sutton is actually her twin sister’s soul-mirror and the eagle truly belongs to her. They not only have the rogues to battle, but they have to fight for each other.

Soul Magic further explores the battle of the rogues verse Wing Slayer Hunters that was created in the first book, Blood Magic, but this book can be read as a standalone. What I really love about this book is Sutton. He is the ultimate alpha male. He never once falls beneath that status. He is overprotective, fierce, he snarls, he acts irrationally when Carla is in danger and he is bald – very unique. I have a weakness for this alpha. He is so intense in his feelings for Carla that it makes me melt a little bit. His eagle tattoo has a mind of its own, and often Sutton has to calm it down or he finds that the tattoo is literally clawing at himself to get out. At one point Sutton becomes jealous of Max, a co-worker of Carla’s:

The man (Max) had dark hair, dark eyes, a lean body, and a book brain. He saved girls and women from cults. Do-gooder doctor, just like Carla.

Sutton hated him. He could crush him like a bug, spilling his guts all over the shiny dining room table.

I also love stories where there are alpha men working or living together. These big tough men have to rely on each other many times to stay alive. There is something so sexy about that. Although they will lay down their lives for one another, that doesn’t mean there isn’t relentless teasing between them. When Sutton meets Carla’s mom his smooth grace is replaced with bumbling and tension:

Well, shit, Sutton could have said something like that. If he’d thought of it. His hands were sweating. Christ. He curled his fingers into fists so the other hunters didn’t notice that he was scared of Carla’s mother. He had to say something to reassure her. “Uh yeah. What Axel said.”

There was shuffling from the men behind him. Dumb shits, he knew they were looking at each other and smirking behind his back.

“Ma’am is Carla all right?”

Phoenix snickered and muttered, “He called her ma’am.”

Carla was a heroine that I didn’t dislike, but I didn’t love her either. She was strong in both her witch abilities and her emotions, but she was constantly worried that she was not the true soul-mirror for Sutton, she was convinced her twin sister was. After awhile, I thought – enough! Once she accepted her love for Sutton, and moved on, I grew to like her more. I also didn’t love when Carla went to the astral plane with Sutton. On the plane, because it is only their spirits there, they were able to touch and be more intimate without risking Sutton’s blood lust taking over. I found it a bit of a confusing place, unsure of what powers worked there compared to reality. I had a hard time grasping what exactly was happening many times.

The war progresses, and although their is a small victory for the Wing Slayer Hunters, by no means is the battle over. There are many more Wing Slayers for us to meet - Phoenix, who is up next in Blind Magic, Key, Linc and Ram - oh Ram - Mr. Serious. I can't wait for his book.

Sutton carried the story for me. If you are in the mood for a sexy, alpha man, Soul Magic is the book for you.

Book 2 was somehow a sweeter story for me. It also had humor which just made it all the better. We also got to see more than we usual do of previous characters in a series. And, I liked that a lot!

Carla... Our girl was a true heroine. She was selfless, caring, and stubborn. Her strength of character was exceptional. I really enjoyed her unique ability to go to the astral plane.

Sutton ... What a sweet man. He was a man of few words, and his responses to his little witch doctor were very cute. When Sutton started to try and persuade Carla that she was his soul mirror and not her sister, he was so sweet, I awed out loud. I loved his interaction with Chandra, so adorable. I pictured Sutton as a big bald teddy bear.
Sutton photo 2780804d3beb8c0606f17373d46e5cd3_zps55y0giem.jpg

Best line in a scene, (don't forget we know Sutton is bald), - "Yep, his hair was brown". I laughed my fool head off.

The moral.... True love is so powerful it can change anything.

True love, action, sacrifice, and freeing a soul....Great Story! Now on to book 3.

‘Soul Magic’ was such an amazing continuance of the Wing Slayer novels. I really thought when I finished ‘Blood Magic’ that I had a good idea what was going to happen in the second book. Considering each member of the Wing Slayers had to find his mate or other half of his soul if you will, I thought all the novels would be of the same basic story line. Oh how mistaken I was, even though this novel does tell the story of Sutton and Carla bonding, it has very little similarity to Axel and Darcy’s story. To me this is a very rare talent to be able to write a series based on the same plot but make each one so completely different and intriguing.

Sutton was fighting the curse ten times worse than Axel ever had to with Darcy, he couldn’t get Carla out of his head, yet he had no idea whether he wanted to make love to her or kill her more. Then when an out of control psychic rogue lets loose on Carla’s mind and she realizes her twin sisters soul in trapped in that rogue’s knife, she asks Sutton to help her on a nearly impossible mission. Her sister, Keri is convinced the eagle can save her; Carla is convinced that Sutton is that eagle because of the tattoo on his back.

The question is can Carla and Sutton resist the lethal attraction to each other long enough to save Keri or will they seal the bond and leave Keri’s soul floating in unrest forever?

The plot and layout of this story is so much more intense than ‘Blood Magic’ don’t get me wrong I loved the first novel but this one blew me away completely. I even cried a few times during ‘Soul Magic’. Sutton and Carla face so much together and it’s hard to believe the way everything turns out. You find yourself going back and forth between the scenes, trying to figure out how it is going to end. This book will keep you on your toes and leave you in a state of awe. Jennifer Lyon completely upped the stakes in ‘Soul Magic’ and I absolutely cannot wait to sink my teeth into ‘Night Magic’ and see which character is taking his turn next offering his soul and waiting to see if he is Wing Slayer worthy.

This series is a work of art! I absolutely love getting lost in the Wing Slayer Hunters' curse and how they find their soul mirrors that act as an antidote to the curse. Sutton and Carla are the second amazing couple to do this! Sutton is tough, loves the outdoors and fights tooth and nail to save witches. Carla is strong, smart and takes her position as a doctor helping brainwashed victims seriously. She's forced to lean on Sutton in order to rescue her twin sister. Who is Sutton's soul mirror? He's in love with one sister and soulfully linked to the other. Find out what happens!!

Cried so hard near the end of the book I couldn't even see the words. Then I was pissed. If it wasn't for having the flu and no energy I would have hurled it across the room. Not sure how to rate it. Enjoyed reading it. Made me bawl…but it was so *ucked up that I didn't enjoy the story even if love did triumph.

**Vague SPOILER**
I wanted a 'meant to be' story not a 'we'll let you see if it works' story.

In book 2 in the Wing Hunter Slayers, Sutton is cursed to crave the blood of witches even though he hopes to find his soul-mirror in a witch. (Soul-mirrors are earth witches who are supposed to save hunters from the curse.) Several hunters are giving in to the bloodlust, killing both good and evil witches, which turns them rogue. Sutton and his friends have vowed never to give in and are forced to kill the rogues and evil witches alike.
Carla is an earth witch who uses her gifts to help others overcome terrible trauma. She feels compelled to help and trust Sutton even though he could snap at any moment. She’s still grieving over the loss of her twin sister, Keri, but then she learns that Keri’s soul is trapped inside the blade of a knife. Keri’s soul is reaching out to Sutton (through the sisters’ twin bond), and Keri wants Carla to help him. Carla believes Keri and Sutton are true soul-mirrors, but Sutton doesn’t. He wants and loves Carla.
I really enjoyed this story until the love triangle. Who is Sutton’s soul-mirror? Carla or Keri? The final answer to this was confusing.
There are some unanswered questions with some minor characters, but it doesn’t really matter overall. As with the first book, lots of innocent witches died, which made the story hard to read sometimes because it’s just so sad.
Carla and Sutton are great together. I really liked the H/h, but the confusion with the soul-mirrors distracted me.

🦅♊So Soul Magic. Sutton and Carla's story. I love 💘 💗 ♥ 💓 Sutton. He is so swoon worthy. Carla annoyed me with her back and forth. Sutton was 💯 into her and her magic.
So the story, Carla had a twin sister who was killed in the attack that happened 2 years before in San Francisco. Keri tried binding her soul to Carla's arm cuff but instead bound it to the rouge's dagger.
When Sutton saved Carla in Blood Magic he touched her blood and made it so Keri could connect to Carla and Sutton. Lots of time spent in the astral plane. Styx a rouge hunter has the dagger. And he's psychic 🔮 😳.
😂Witch politics is super annoying and Silver one of the witches is going to get it. She's an insufferable know it all and kind of a dick.
So Sutton and his eagle fall hopelessly in love with Carla. Carla isn't sure he's her soul mirror or Keri's. Sutton believes 100% he's Carla's. I think his devotion to Carla is part of the reason I'm not a Carla fan. She tries over and over to push him away. And it makes Sutton feel unworthy of her and he's so worthy of love. Now when Carla gets on board I'm totally a fan! 💖Really again the rich magic history in this book makes me so happy. And Sutton, Carla and Keri create Soul Magic. 🌙 Carla is bestowed the title Moon Witch as an advisor for all witches, that was cool.

Wow! Sutton’s story was simply beautiful. The second book in the series continues the journey for our Wing Slayers getting closer to breaking the curse one soul mirror at a time.

Sutton and Carla’s story was a soul wrenching one. Readers will shed some tears with this one, so be sure to have some tissue ready.

Carla’s twin sister murdered and her soul trapped in a knife is the focus of this book. A love story that is tragic as Sutton and Carla fight against terrible odds to save her sister. But death is very close and Sutton may just lose his soul.

I am falling deeply in love with the characters in this series. Each one a strong person who against everything fight to break a horrible curse. Each book filled with danger, sadness, love and hot chemistry. This author is writing and creating a beautiful and unique world. A world filled with creative characters and beautiful plots. They are high energy and soul shattering stories that leave readers begging for more.

I can’t wait to read more.

Round two in Jennifer Lyon’s Wing Slayer Hunter series is the story of Dr. Carla Fisk, a psychologist and earth witch whose sole purpose in life is to help victims of brainwashing and cult activity. As both a shrink and a practicing earth witch, Carla is uniquely qualified to help her patients deal with their trauma while simultaneously easing their pain. Carla’s compassion and desire to help others was born out of her inability to help her twin sister Keri, a powerful earth witch who was killed by rogue Hunters. Since Keri’s death, Carla has remained true to her life’s purpose but has, in all other areas of her life, closed herself off.

By all accounts Sutton West is a tried and true bad ass techno geek who fights valiantly alongside the Wing Slayer Hunters. Sutton is so absolutely committed to his vow to Wing Slayer that he would, like his father before him, rather kill himself than go rogue. Unfortunately for Sutton his day of reckoning is closer than he would like to admit; the urge to kill an earth witch and bathe in her blood is becoming harder and harder to resist. Just to make things interesting, Sutton is thrown into the middle of a mess that involves Carla Fisk and her dead twin sister.

Now, both Carla and Sutton have a few problems: Carla’s dead twin is trapped in the world between life and death and calling out to Carla to help her; Sutton is beyond sure that Carla is his soul mirror but can’t convince Carla of this; a new powerful rogue by the name of Styx is inhibiting Carla’s ability to reach her sister and killing Carla in the process; and Sutton is coming dangerously close to violating his vows and going rogue himself. It’s time to get serious about fixing these problems. As with the first book in this series, once the plot really takes hold and is established, things begin to move quickly. With the help of the rest of the Wing Slayers and a small circle of brave earth witches, Carla and Sutton are able to track down Styx, kick his ass, and save Keri in the process. Of course, there’s also a little naughtiness thrown in for good measure 

What I like about this series is the fact that Lyon isn’t willing to sacrifice the long term plot for the sake of the immediate story and vice versa. Sutton and Carla’s story is played out to completion while still advancing the long-term plot line at the same time. We find out, as we expected too, that Styx is simply another piece or pawn in a much larger, more far-reaching, and sinister game than we ever could have imagined. While Carla, Sutton, the Wing Slayer Hunters, and the witches do their part to eliminate the immediate threat, they are all well aware that the fight has only truly just begun.

How can you choose between the man you love and your sister?

Sutton West is a Wing Slayer Hunter. They protect the mortal witches from witch hunters who long to spill their blood. The Wing Slayer’s fight this curse and have each pledged to kill one another if they should turn rogue. They've recently found out that the Wing Slayer’s have a Soul Mirror out there somewhere; someone who can complete their soul and save them from the curse.

Carla Fisk is a witch who watched her twin sister Keri murdered by rogues two years ago. Now in a vision, she sees how Keri had bound herself to a silver knife during the attack. Keri’s soul needs to be freed so she can go to Summerland to be reincarnated. Carla and Keri are twin bound so their connection helps Carla lead her to the knife.

Sutton vows to Carla to retrieve the knife and free Keri, but he can’t keep away from Carla. He is positive she is his soul mirror. Carla loves Sutton but can’t commit to him. If she completes the Soul Mirror bond it will break her connection with Keri. She also is worried that she isn't Sutton’s soul mirror, but Keri is. How can she choose between the man she loves and her sister?

SOUL MAGIC is a paranormal romance filled with magic, romance, and family. Sutton and Carla’s romance steam up the pages while the reader feels for the choices they have to make. Jennifer Lyons spins and weaves a magical story that most paranormal romance fans will love.

"Soul Magic" by Jennifer Lyon. Book 2 in the Wing Slayer Hunter series.

I liked this book. Again, I'm still getting used to the lore of the series. The plot line of this story was really interesting focusing on the soul bond between the main characters of Carla and Sutton but it also has to do with the bond between Carla and her deceased twin sister Keri.

A lot of confusion happens when Sutton believes Carla is his soul mate but Carla insists that what he is feeling is the bond between him and her sister Keri. But now, Carla and Sutton must work together to free Keri's soul from a silver knife that their enemy is in possession of. But can they work together without giving in to the attraction between them? If the can't, Keri's soul may be lost forever.

A very interesting concept. The chemistry between the main characters was very well done. Very good action throughout the whole story. Very good emotional ups and downs with both Sutton and Carla. I liked it. I'm continuing to read this series.

Dezember 2009:

Basic Plot: Carla must save her dead sister's soul from the knife its trapped in while attempting to forge her soul mirror bond with Wing Slayer Sutton.

This book was on track for a very solid 3-star rating as a popcorn romance until the last 20 pages or so of the book when the author decided to give me a very solid kick in the feels. I was kind of annoyed, to be honest. I was vaguely annoyed through the book by the characters' being a bit silly and then they had to go and make me actually give a crap.

I read these books a bit out of order, but it didn't really matter in the end. Sutton was kind of funny in his reactions to the women of the book and not quite knowing how to deal with mothers. It was sweet, and I don't often say that sort of thing about these characters. Carla has been an intelligent and cautious character through the books. Overall, the development was solid. The pacing was pretty good, and the book was a good addition to the series. I will probably try to pester my local library into picking up the rest of the series so I can read it.

I have to say that although at first the novel made me think that it was quite different from many other paranormal books; however it has many similarities then differences. Many of the powers that the individual characters in the book have are very similar to those of the novels of Christine Feehan. But one thing that can be said is that the different powers of the witches and their association with the birds that their “soul-mirror” or soul mate has tattooed on his back are quite fascinating.
Although the powers and paranormal maybe similar the author captures your attention quite easily. I have to say that she made me love reading the book. The problems of the characters felt like my problem. The book was wonderful other then fact that it was similar to other book. I do have to say that the book was romantically sad and a great read. I recommend to anyone who loves Christine Feehan, but wants a twist instead of the “Dark” series.

Two years ago Carla's twin sister Keri was killed by a rogue and now her soul is stuck in a knife and she's not able to move on, to be at peace. Both Carla and Sutton are connected to Keri, and their intense attracting to each other is almost more than they can handle. But to save Keri they must resist that attraction or she could be lost forever...

I love this series, The Wing Slayer Hunters are delicious! I read the first book (Blood Magic) when I was in a reading slump, and it only took me the first few pages and I was hooked. I think I love this one even more than the first. Carla and Sutton's coming together was really sweet. Also at the same time intense and heart wrenching. I love the action that comes with each book, the story is always moving. The back story with the witches, rogues and the Wing Slayer Hunters is absolutely intriguing. I can't wait to read the next one. Ms Lyon's brings the action and the sexy with each story, in my opinion they are not to be missed.

Well, I loved Sutton, he is a great character. He had a lot of baggage to overcome and prove to himself he deserved to have Carla. And truthfully, the interaction with the Eagle was just great and somehow funny how Sutton just excepts the actions of the Eagle on is back. Carla is a complicated character and not my favorite. But Carla and Sutton are a perfect match for each other, they have a lot of passion and it shows. The journey for the Wing Slayer Hunters (I still hate that name) continues, and they are one more step closer to battling Quinn Young. As for the witches, the Ancestors are reaching out to help restore their magic. I really like this series because it is very different from what I normally read. But this one was about 80 pages to long, and some of the resolution to save Keri was a little confusing. Maybe I was just tired, I think my attention was slipping. Looking forward to the next one....

This second installment is about Sutton finding his soul mirror. The plot evolves on whether his soul mirror is Carla or Keri (Carla's dead sister) since Keri has bonded herself to her sister when she is murdered by a witch hunter rogue two years ago. Since Carla goes to astral plane when she helps her patients, Keri has learned to take advantage the opportunity to communicate with her in that plane. But at the same time, Sutton is pulled in the astral plane due to the soul mirror reasoning. Then, Keri will give them a vision to help them solve the mystery. It's actually a great concept, and I like how the story progresses. On the contrary though, I am a bit exasperated with the repetitions of some passages--which is the same complaint I have on the first installment. Other than this petty complaint of mine, this book 2 is a fast-paced read.
