Lissa Stuart is thrilled to get a job researching for an upcoming movie in Scotland--supposedly the land of her ancestors. When she brags about possibly being related to Bonnie Prince Charlie, she captures the attention of an angry, embittered warrior.
Revenge is all that Gareth thought about for the last 270 years. According to a witch helping him and the other warriors stuck at Culloden Moor, it's not his turn to come back to life but that doesn't matter to him in the least! When he gets a shot at a flesh and blood existence, if only for a few days, he seizes it!
If he has his way, this time the last word will not come from the living, but from the dead.
A NOTE ABOUT THE SERIES: Although the individual stories of Culloden's 79 need not be read in strict order, The Gathering should definitely be read first in order to know what's going on between the Muir Witch and these Highland warriors from 1746.
The Reckoning, Number 79's story, will finish the series.
Diane Darcy loves to read and write lighthearted and funny books. She’s a member of the Heart of the West, and RWA. She was a finalist for Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart® Award. She’s written romantic comedies in several different genres; some historical, some contemporary, all lighthearted and fun. She makes her home in Utah with her family and dogs, and is hard at work on her next book.
Before reading any of the books in this series, you will first need to read The Gathering so you can get an understanding of what's going on.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. I have loved all of the books I've read by Diane Darcy so I thought I would give her books in this series a try.
Gareth was a cute, fun, quick read. I thought it would have been a bit more "ghostly", but to me it was more contemporary than paranormal. But that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I'll definitely be reading more books in this series. :)
This has an interesting premise - ghosts waiting for revenge. Gareth busts out with his new temporary life before fully understanding the stakes, just knowing he's waited a long time and needs to make that traitor of a king pay.
Enter Lissa, who has the misfortune to claim she's a decendant. In front of Gareth. He's bent on killing her, but something changes his mind.
Gareth is a great hero - a leader and a protector, with a sweet gentle side.
This is a fun story. I enjoy Diane Darcy's charming Scottish heroes.

These are fun little stories. I am enjoying the series. I realize they are very short, but the incessant inner monologue we hear from Lissa when Gareth walks away was so repetitive and got on my nerves. Personally, I had a hard time with Lissa. Her dialogue was a bit forced and didn't seem to flow. But I did enjoy the ending.
Ah, the romance of a Sottish Highlander ghost! Lissa Stuart's job takes her to Scotland's Culloden Moor battlefield, where her joking tale of her purported ancestry has Gareth, a 270 year old ghost, enraged. She's a descendant of Bonnie Prince Charlie, the cowardly Stuart prince who left Gareth and his brothers to die at Culloden. When Soncerae the witch offers Gareth a few days of life, he jumps at the chance to destroy Charles Stuart's descendant in revenge. But Lisa isn't the coward her ancestor was. Gareth isn't as willing to murder as he thought he was. What begins as a kidnap/attempted murder ends as the sweetest and most touching love story, as time travel and magic lay the ghosts of vengeance and despair to their final rest. Diane Darcy creates memorable characters and lovely Scottish settings so well that I didn't want the story to end!
Gareth is the 5th book in the series. Each book originates from the ghosts of 79 people who died at Culloden. However, each story is unique, and focuses on the specific ghost. Each ghost must complete a noble deed. Lissa visits Culloden for research, while chatting with a guard she mentions she is a decedent from Bonnie Prince Charlie. This gets Gareth’s attention. He is bitter, and looking to kill her since he can’t make Charlie pay, his decedent will. Only when he has the chance, he ends up falling for Lissa. The story is well written and interesting. The characters are well developed. Narration is excellent, I love the Scottish brogue. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Gareth (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #5), my first read from author Diane Darcy. My wife is a Scottish romance reader & sometimes the books she reads influence me. A well-written short read, 137-pages/3-hours 50-minutes in length, and the fifth book in this ongoing series. I'll read more from this author & in this series, but what really got me going was narrator Andrew McDermott, I love his Irish brogue. This is my eighteenth listen from him. Co-narrator Jenn McGuirk added to the enjoyment of the book. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This is the fifth book in the series. You will want to read the first short story, The Gathering, before you start the rest of the series. After that each one can be read as a standalone .
Gareth is one angry, but hot🔥 Scot! Lissa’s announcement that she is a descendant of Bonnie Prince Charlie while standing on the grounds of Culloden Moor was probably not a smart move on her part. Her announcement leads her on an adventure she never expected to take.
I really enjoyed this book and loving the series so far. There are many more books to go.
This is one of those stories that includes characters from other books and series. I feel the need to go back and read those stories that apparently occurred before this one. But, this is about Gareth, who had so much rage in him for Charles Stuart that he lunged at a young woman visitor while he was still a ghost. His change over the course of the time that he was with the young woman allowed him to move past his past hate and live for the future. Love the ending.
This is the fifth book in The Ghosts of Culloden Moor Series, a Scottish Paranormal Romance. I love this series! Gareth and Lissa's story is sweet, entertaining, fun, and captivating. They are both interesting characters. Andrew McDermott and Jenn McGuirk did a great job bringing these characters and this story to life. Looking forward to listening to Fraser, the next book in the series.

I enjoyed the narration of Andrew McDermott and Jenn McGuirk

What a great story and I simply love the tie in to Diane Darcy's other story-how clever. It was Gareths anger that drew me to his story. All that rage, rightfully so however it made him in need of Lisa's. This is such a great story - off to read the two tie in books..
These stories never get old or boring. I never know what direction Soncerea will take them but the trip is always so heart touching. You just can't put the book down until your on the last page, then your quickly scrambling to find what's next. Not one story is a disappointment. Marvelous job Diane. Have added you to my list of favorite authors.
Historical researcher meets ghostly angry beast of a man. Add kidnapping, thievery. a shower scene, uneven fights, a laird in an almost castle, a stalker and travel across Scotland and this is that story. For a book about a hot tempered Scot bent on revenge, this book ended up a bit extra sappy for my personal preference tonight. On to the next one!
Lissa Stuart meets the ghost of Gareth on Culloden Moor as she is researching history for her boss's upcoming movie. Fending off pretty boy actors and young ruffians keeps Gareth busy after he decides not to kill Lissa ? or will he after all ? To get back at Bonnie Prince Charlie.
This historical romance with its ghostly and resurrected highlander has a twist when family are reunited. An enjoyable read, one of two unnecessary bits that didn't really add to the tale.
Gareth has justified rage that has built to fury over the two centuries since he & his brothers were killed in battle. Now he has a chance for revenge, will he be able to take the life of one of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s descendants?
I found this set of books while I was sick, now I can't stop! I want them all to be happy, send one to me please! Lol but if not I hope all the lost lads at that battle find peace, thank you for the story
Best line of the book: "She should have bought an Android." I enjoy this series as I am a huge fan of the Scottish time travel series. I am most definitely going to read the Ian and Samantha story.
Omg in trapped in romance novel hell and loving it. This is seriously not my genre. I haven't read anything like this since high school 50 years ago but life in Covid land can get tiresome and these little confections are a delight. So read on MacDuff! 😂😂
This was such a loving and beautiful story. Gareth and Lissa are such the odd couple but they manage to be what the other needs. I loved the comic relief of the "pretty man."
A witch gave Garett that is a ghost a few days to even his revenge of his killing. He wanted to kill Lisa Stuart that has the blood of his enemy. Author Diane Darcy found a way to have him fall in love and want to stay human.
Been reading Diane Darcy books for well over a decade and I love them all! Always good chemistry and romance. And I loved the tie in with She Owns the Knight - that was unexpected and awesome.
