The Mating Games gathering has arrived! Finding ones mate is not always easy. Not everyone's mate is always the same species and the Council knows this, so they designed a way for all types of shifters and other paranormals to come together. Have some fun, meet new people, and if you are one of the lucky ones....find your mate. Just being a skunk shifter, isn't easy. Try being a skunk as well as a socially inept genius. For Ricky, that was his life. However, he was now at the Mating Games to try and change who he is. He wanted a mate. He wanted someone that would love him for who he is and not think him strange or boring. Derk had been trying to find his mate for years. With the urging of his best friend, Derk said he would give the Mating Games gathering one last chance. Being the quarterback to the large shifter football team requires lots of practice. However, he didn't expect it to bring him to his adorable mate. The thing is, not only does Derk want him, but so does the Council, and they will do whatever it takes to have Ricky in their possession. Can Derk keep his mate safe, or will the council jump in and intercept his mating.
Cree Storm lives and works in Southern New Mexico. The only thing she loves more than reading about gorgeous men and love is writing about them. Spending time with her friends and family is very important to her. When she is not writing or spending time with the love of her life you can find her watching the Oregon Mountains with a nice hot cup of coffee and her laptop or on face book with her many friends.
The story was great. Action, sexy times, a bit of mystery, and some suspense at the end.
There were a few things where gay culture is concerned that made me cringe a little bit (stereotypes are a pet peeve of mine). But more than anything, it was the editing that kept me from getting lost in the story. There vs their vs they're cropped up in the first two pages, there are a few spots where the tenses changed back and forth within the same sentence, and there were some redundancy issues where the same word gets used in the same paragraph a little too often.
And the phrase "internal cavern"... **shudder**
I have to say that it was, overall, a really enjoyable read! The story was cute and different enough to be refreshing, it didn't monopolize a whole lot of my time, it kept me chuckling with some "campy" antics, and assuming the next book has a little more substance ($2.99 is a little steep for a novella), I'll most likely one-click that bad boy! Well done, Cree.
Ok complete warning......THIS ENDS IN A FREAKING CLIFFHANGER!!!!
Cree why do you do this too me!!!
For some reason while reading this, I imagined the scenery and circumstances like when Harry Potter went to the World Quitich Games. Everyone camping out around different playing fields and such. However this is the Mating Games. Kind of a cross between Olympics for Paranormals and a singles mixer all rolled into one.
This particular book focuses on the nerdy, Ricky, his family, friends and his mate, Derk. I loved meeting these quirky new characters. There is another plot like to this series other thank paranormals finding their mates, but I can't tell you without giving too much away. Please Cree, do wait too long for the next installment!
1.5 stars If this story had been written by a 13 year old and posted on a fiction site, I might have rated it as 2 or 2.5 stars, but I expect much more from a book I pay for! To begin with the amount of typos, missing words and grammatical mistakes was ridiculous. Next, on a couple of occasions, the author forgot to change the names in the copied and pasted parts and on one occasion she makes a mistake whilst changing them. Then there are those sex scenes which were 90 percent copied and pasted from somewhere else. Just run a search on each individual sentence and see for yourself. And then she gets her facts mixed up, The great flying fox, like all Old World fruit bats, lacks the ability to echo locate but compensates for it with well-developed eyesight. Further more, as a psychological fact, people who are sensitive to swearing and use of proper language and manners don't have laud sex in close proximity of other people. That kind of behavior simply requires other personality traits. And finally Ricky's ignorance of scientific facts which are common knowledge, his manner of speaking and his ultra simple vocabulary belie his supposedly high IQ. This review has gotten too long so I skip the less obvious problems of this book.
Right from the get go I was hooked on this book. Ricky's adorable in his sense of humor, looks, shyness and naivety. His parents are a hoot! His friendship with Joop and Ian is great to see. They have each others backs in all things. In comes Drek..built like a..well you can fill in the rest, hot and handsome. Ricky and Drek's road to mating was funny, sweet, sad at times and wonderful. They are dealing with some evil people but have parents and friends to help out. Having read this one I immediately went and bought the other 3 in the series. I cannot wait to read them to find out what happens to the friends.
Book was a light sweet read. I have always liked the idea of knowing immediately on some instinctual level who your other half is, especially when it comes to supernatural beings. This book would have been a 5 if it wasn't for how quickly every one jumped to conclusions about everything. Let's see what the next book holds.
This was a very sweet and heartfelt story. The pace was smooth and the plot was interesting. I enjoyed the cute characters and their distinctive personalities. I wasn't really happy with the ending, but none the less, I found this to be a very pleasurable and amusing read.
"But don't you ever screw my son until he passes out again, young man, or I will spray you." Omg I laughed till I cried!!!!!
Wow just WOW I have laughed so hard with this book. I absolutely loved it. Ricky is a 21 year old genius who's still a virgin. Ricky goes to the mating games not really thinking he will find his mate. When Ricky gets hit right smack in the face with a football fate brings him his mate. Derk is a 35 year old sexy as sin bear shifter looking for his mate when he goes to help the man he hit with the football he gets one whiff off the skunk shifter and knows he's finally found his mate. But there's a problem his mate shifts and makes a run for it. Poor poor Ricky he's not used to talking to people let alone his mate. Will Derk be able to convince Ricky that there meant to be? Will they be able to stay together when outside forces start trying to tear them apart? I absolutely loved this book I couldn't put it down and neither will you except to wipe the tears from your eyes. Cree has out done herself in this book. I chat wait for the next one. Loved loved loved it.
3.5 stars. Super cute story! Lots of funny, what's better than a bear spanking a skunk?? A little who done it thrown in and leaves you with a bit of a cliffy and wanting to grab the next one. But the book does need a good dose of editing, I think this is what bumped it from a 4 down to a 3.5 for me. Had to keep stopping and correcting things on my head. Otherwise a very enjoyable and entertaining quick read.
This was a really cute shifter story - love the skunk-bear-shifter pairing. Great concept, great characters and such fun. Unfortunately this book suffered from a lack of editing. Basic grammar issues throughout the entire book hurt my brain: There/their, your/you're, to/too, breathe/breath, improper punctuation... from beginning to end. 3-3.5 stars for a really adorable story that should've been four stars or more.
I enjoyed it but it wasn't very special. In fact I thought it was a book from another author who writes the same sort of stories but I get tingles from her stories. So when I didn't got it from this one I was wondering why. My own fault but still even when I don't compare it with another story, it was just so so. Good for a quick read. But not very memorable.
First I have to say, I loved this story! The characters were fantastic, and the whole plot fun and interesting. However, the editing problems really got to me! Wrong characters names, misspelled words, grammar issues. I love Cree, and everything she writes, but I'd suggest at least a proofread! This would have been 5 Stars read for me if not for these issues!
