Gambling With Love #7

All In: Paying to Play

Rate this book
WARNING: This is an All In NOVELLA and is intended for 18+ ONLY due to the sexually explicit scenes and adult language.

Famous wide receiver Jake Young is an enormous pain in the ass. Addison James wishes she’d known that important little fact before she signed up to be his morality babysitter for a hundred grand. At the time it seemed like an enormous amount of easy money to earn in just a few short weeks. But now she knows that ten times that much wouldn’t be enough to deal with this sexist jerk.

Jake is certain that Addison James is the most infuriating woman in the world. She’s a spoiled, stuck up bitch that enjoys taking cheap shots at him at every opportunity. Although, he can admit that she’s sexy as hell. But despite their constant fighting, he’s stuck with her for the next six weeks if he wants to keep his football contract with the Wildcats.

They say there’s a thin line between love and hate, but this time there’s a million reasons why the line, no matter how tempting, is one that can’t be crossed.

This is an All In NOVELLA, not a full length book. It contains characters that originally appeared in All In: Playing to Win, the fifth book in the series.

When Jake’s wild ways gets him into serious trouble with the Wildcats owner, he’s forced to make some drastic changes to his lifestyle. Resentful and angry, he signs the papers that will link him to an unknown woman for the next few weeks. The fact that the woman is a knockout and all he wants to do is sex her up complicates things. Because if he touches Addison he’ll lose his pro football contract.

Addison has dreams of setting up her on psychiatric practice and the money being offered to her will be a huge step in doing just that. All she has to do is be arm candy for a few weeks for one of the Wildcat players. Easy. Until she catches him in a compromising position and realizes she’s going to have to live with this douche for the foreseeable future.

This is a fast paced story, short and fiery with these characters beginning as enemies before moving on to something more. Their chemistry is off the charts but they each have preconceived notions of the other, some honestly earned, others grown from reactions to the circumstances.

Jake was definitely a man who got around but after spending some time with Addy he no longer wanted anyone but her. There is a bit of drama that arises from an outside source that forced these two to pull away but I appreciated that they didn’t linger there long before talking it out. Addy was so feisty and straight forward. She gave as good as she got and she kept Jake on his toes. I loved how she helped to make things right between them.

There are a few scenes with characters from other books in the series and I realized that I had read them out of order but it didn’t spoiler the earlier book for me or take away my enjoyment of this read. I would have liked to have had more of this couple actually but had to satisfy myself with a nice little epilogue and the knowledge I may see them in future books.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

All In: Paying to Play by Lane Hart a five-star read that you will pay any price for. This is a novella in the Gambling with love series and it answers some unanswered questions and gives more depth to the series that I have loved and enjoyed throughout. When Addison James popped up in another book she wasn’t someone I liked very much but when we see her side of the story it all falls into place and I ended up loving her so hard, not least because I know she will bring some much-needed guidance and wisdom to the Wildcats. Jake Young has always been the bad boy, but we see so much more to him, but will 6 weeks be enough to change the damage of the last 3 years? Thank you Lane Hart for being an amazing writer and also for giving us a chance to get under the skin of another Wildcat.

DNF @ 43%

I love a good enemies to lovers read, but this story was just a train wreck.

Addison and Jake were just so nasty mean to one another, I was questioning if this was even a romance. She was judgemental throughout and acted like a 12 year old despite being in her late twenties and being a Psychiatrist. You would think she would be more understanding given her profession. I didn't like her at all, sadly.

"So, I'm guessing you're Addison?" I ask as I fit my key to the lock. "No shit, Sherlock," she replies caustically. "And I already know you're a disgusting pig."

"You are the most immature jerk I've ever met," she grumbles before angrily stomping down the sidewalk ahead of me.

As for Jake, he was an asshole. I lost count of how many times he called Addison a bitch and cunt throughout the story.

I open the door and scratch my closely shaved head as I step into the foyer, trying to figure out why she's such a bitch just meeting me.

Now that I'm feeling damn defensive, I turn the tables on this snobby bitch.

"Are you still a bitch this morning?" are the first lovely words out of his vulgar mouth.

"God, you are such a bitch!" he says and I hear him stomp out of the room. "Be ready to go at eleven, cunt!"

After that damn kiss the bitch insisted on before the game, I can't stop thinking about her mouth, or her tongue.

"Look, cunt, it won't take you ten minutes, so quit your bitchin' and come get me!"

"Unless you consider getting yelled out by a batshit crazy cunt about changing the roll of toilet paper busy."

These were just some of the lovely (insert sarcastic tone here) things he said to Addison. He also acted like an adolescent jerk throughout the story. I didn't see how these two were compatible at all. Usually, I encounter books where one of the main protagonists is unlikable and I can carry on reading, but not with this one. Both of the main characters were just so...obnoxious I couldn't continue.

Despite their childish and off-putting behaviors, I kept reading because I wanted to see how they were going to come around and I wanted to see if there was any romance involved and how they were going to fall in love. That didn't happen because the book just took a weird turn and that's part of the reason why I DNF. So, Jake invites his teammate Zach over and before you know it, Zach is giving Addison head and after she gets off she returns the favor, but Zach can't get it up...while Jake is there watching the whole thing go down! WTF?!

Granted, Jake and Addison weren't officially together as they were putting on a charade to clean up Jake's playboy image, but shit. That scene just came out of the left field and I don't like OW/OM bullshit in my romance. Personally, I like the characters to be monogamous.

Overall, this story was not to my liking at all. The characters and the random sex with other people just ruined it for me. I got this for free on Amazon back in December 2015, but deleted it off my Kindle after reading this.

A very quick and satisfying read (or maybe I just could not put it down). I read about Jake in the previous Gambling With Love Book and was not certain that I would enjoy reading "his" story but boy was I wrong. The saying there is someone out there for everyone to love and once you meet them your world as you knew it changes and changes for the better was never more true than when Jake meets Addison. The sparks and the chemistry was apparent from the first meeting and it was so nice to see the Jake-ass change from the player to an honest to goodness wonderful man. The hidden pain we find out about in Jake's past brought me to tears but was so well written and so much a part of us learning who this man is. Wonderful book to loose yourself in, While all books in the series can essentially be read as a stand alone book, once you find a mention of another character you will find an almost addition like drive to find the book that tells their story.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.

All of the books in this series are great and this one is no exception. It delivers exactly what you would expect from a Lane Hart book. This one is full of hot fun bickering and banter, making for some laugh out loud moments.

Jake is a star player for the Wildcats but needs to clean up his playboy ways. Addison is hired to keep him on the straight and narrow for 100 grand. The sparks fly when Jake thinks she is stuck up and Addison thinks he is a jerk. The chemistry just pours off of the pages with these two and is extremely entertaining, making the pages turn almost by themselves.

Great writing, fantastic characters. Can be read as a standalone, although I suggest you read the whole series. You can’t go wrong with this one.

Addison's father is a civil attorney who represents some of the state's biggest corporations and enterprises. So when he has a proposition for Addison that will pay her $100,000 for six weeks of babysitter and public dating, she's in. This has to appear real to all involved or Zack looses his contract and is off the team AND he's not allowed to have sex with anyone for that period of time.
This is one explosive book, literally!! You can actually see fireworks between these characters as the animosity and resentment are like a second skin. This storyline and characters will pull you in, making you feel what's going on like you're actually there. I've had a myriad of emotions during this one and enjoyed it tremendously. It did remind me several times, never judge a book by it's cover.

I absolutely love this series! In the previous book, Playing to Win, you learn of the of the trouble Jake and Zach get into with their philandering lives. They are given an ultimatum to get a fake girlfriend and make it look good. Jake’s girlfriend turns out to be the teams attorney. Jake calls her Satan’s daughter even though her name is Addison. Addison accepted this proposition from her father because she needs the money to setup her practice. But oh do they butt heads. She’s sassy and takes no crap from Jake! It’s really quite funny at times but there’s an attraction that can’t be denied! Lots of steamy fun! Another excellent book by Lane Hart!

Not sure about Addy’s move in the beginning of her contract with Jake. I was expecting better behavior from her. You can’t help but pull for Jake. In the previous book, he was an ass**** with the d*** moves. In “Paying to Play”, he showed his vulnerabilities which made him likable but that doesn’t mean his crudeness disappeared. But once he and Addy got on the same steamy page, he was unapologetically besotted with her. So sweet! [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]

I enjoyed reading Jake and Addisons story. Jake is forced to pretend to be Addison's boyfriend in order to protect his reputation with the NFL. In order to keep his football contract Jake has to stay on the straight and narrow. They start off with hard feelings toward each other, but they quickly start to warm up to each other. Between his past, his playing ways and Addison's father they have quite a few issues to deal with. I couldn't stop reading this one once I started.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is book seven in the series. They can all be read as standalones. This was a great quick read.
Jake plays for the Wildcats but his career is on the line. If he doesn't straighten up his Playboy reputation they are going to let him go. Football is his life.
Addison has dreamed up opening her own practice. Her dad found away to make it happen. She just has to pretend to be Jake's girlfriend and so a little PR. Won't be too hard except he's the hottest guy she's ever seen.

Addison's father is the attorney for the Wildcats team. When Jake needs some respectable arm candy to change the public view of him, Addison is suggested in return for $100,000 to start her psychiatric practice. The two of them need to spend six weeks together looking like a couple in public. Can they do it? What is going to happen when they start to get serious?

Another great story based at the Wildcats team.

Can't always judge a football player by his conquests

When Jake is told he needs to clean up his act in order to keep playing for the NFL he is forced to have a fake girlfriend in order to make him look better. He is set up with the teams lawyers daughter. Addy is in it at first for the money. She is to gain enough from the arrangement to open her own doctors office. Sparks fly. Tempers flair. And the truth sets them free.

This is one of the funnier books in the series. The nicknames Jake and Addy come up with for each other are hilarious. Jake is a self proclaimed ass**** and he lives up to that reputation by the way he initially treats Addy. She is no shrinking violet and gives as good as she gets. The journey these two take to get their HEA is well worth reading.

Book # 6 in the series and they just keep getting better! Jake is an NFL bad boy with his contract on the line if he cant clean up his image. Addison is a psychiatrist and daughter of "Satan" the team's lawyer hired to play Jake's girlfriend. But can these 2 get over their differences and make a lasting change? Soo hot and so good. It was great to see the tie in to Zach from book 4 and 5.

Jake and Addy story.
He is Zach’s friend ,getting together into trouble, and Addy supposed to bring up his public image.
She moves in,they fight every minute . Falling for love...that’s not in the cards. Maybe?
Addy’s father is Jake lawyer and actually it was his idea for this arrangement. So why he is now trying to mess this up?
The book is short, gives you some chuckles.

Another fantastic book. I'm really enjoying these books. They just keep getting better and better and I love all the new characters; the ones that build from the previous books. I love getting to see another side to them, when the book is all about them. Addy and Jake were made for each other; can't help but root for them. Great series!!

Absolutely tremendous story. Addison is paid by her father to appear to be dating Jake. Jake is a pro football player in danger of losing his job due to his man white ways. They have an awesome chemistry together. I love how Lane Hart has a way of making her characters feel so alive and real. Can't wait to read next one.

This is the 6th book of the Gambling with Love Series. The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the chemistry between Addison & Jake.

Wow, you do not let go of this hatred of love. Jake and Addy come together due to circumstances and that does not make it easy to expose their self. The book is well written and story is right, so you do not want to put it down. Also for this book 5 stars. I reallly loved it.

I really loved the combative relationship between Jake and Addison. She thinks he's a man whore, and he thinks she's an uptight witch! Unfortunately for both of them, their stuck together trying to make everyone believe their a happy couple, to save Jake's career, and to help Addison start her own practice. This tug of war between the two makes for a very entertaining read!
