Step Beast

Rate this book
They call him Beast because he fights and f*cks like one. Because he’s built like the tanks he rode in Afghanistan.

Beneath Conrad "Beast" Beeston III’s fierce, intense gaze, his brooding temperament, his knuckles scarred from fighting, lurks a wild man, his strong, broad back darkly inked with his own hard truths.

He only has one mode, and “Beast” is it. He ripped through Tilly's life, tearing it to shreds, and then he was gone, giving a stiff middle finger to a life of entitlement. He left her like he leaves them all—with little more than a broken heart. But for Tilly, there was one more thing.

He left her with an unbearable secret she’s been forced to keep for years.

Tilly’s privileged life, after her recent graduation from Mt. Holyoke, has come to a screeching halt under tragic circumstances. Had she really believed she’d never see her Devil Dog stepbrother again?

Now he’s coming home—and she’s forced to face his cocky smirk and arrogant swagger, to look once again into the eyes of the monster who left her.

Forced to confront him, what she sees is a raw, broken, tortured man who just might be the only person she knows keeping even bigger secrets than she is.

This is mostly for my safety gang gals.

What the fuck did I just attempt to read?! This was baffling, slightly moronic and seriously over the top BDSM-wannabe book. The no communication from the supposed alpha step brother. The incredibly immature heroine. The annoying best friend who actually hits on the Step Beast.

This tried to be so many things it lost track of itself.

H has smex with h and then runs off to enlist. Stays away for years. Pushes h away all the time. h chases H. H is also a Dom in a BDSM club so great probability that he was not celibate in separation. h was celibate and didn't even date. Doesn't work for me.

*************

Ok I read the ending and H didn't want to leave , he was forced to leave bcos h's mom blackmailed him. h was pregnant and h's mom made her give up the baby to her aunt who is raising it. h wrote dozens of letter to H who never opened a single one and sent them all back(!!) But he is remorseful in the end. If only someone could confirm H was celibate I could take the risk and read this....

This was a struggle for me. I didn't really connect with the story and so I didn't properly settle in. I've read lots of Selena Kitt before, with Under Mr Nolan' s bed being an all-time naughty (and very taboo) favourite and I've been pulled right in by the intense erotic smut and the dirty talk. She really knows how to describe a smutty scene in a way that makes you feel like you're sitting right in the middle of the action, hearing the sounds and um...all that.

This one though is a proper story with a plot that doesn't just revolve around sex scenes, with drama, mystery, suspense and some poignant moments along the way. It's also a stepbrother story, something which I've read a lot of recently, although actually, as it's only Tilly' s mum who seems to mind about that, I wasn't feeling the taboo. Perhaps I've become desensitized, idk. I can't lie though, Beast and Tilly have some great chemistry when they're getting it on and the sex scenes were sizzling.

The issue for me was, for a long time, I just couldn't figure out what was going on. Added to that I didn't particularly like any of the characters and so I struggled to get invested in the story. Another reviewer hit it on the head for me when she said it felt like she'd been dropped into the middle of a story. Perhaps if I'd read more about Beast and Tilly five years ago earlier on in the narrative I might have felt Tilly' s sense of betrayal more keenly. Unfortunately, by the time it was all revealed I'd long since lost all sympathy for Tilly, writing her off as a whiner.

By the time we hit the last third of this, finally I was getting it and the drama and suspense pulled this one back from the brink for me. There was some classic tstl behaviour from Tilly who, at times, is frighteningly dense, so I sort of moved from dislike to exasperation with her at that point, even going as far as feeling a few pangs of pity for her.

Beast though...now he was interesting with his thick corded neck and immense strong body and growling, alpha ways. Noice.

Lots of people enjoyed this so don't let me put you off, but I'm afraid this wasn't my favourite from this author. Sorry.

*I received an arc from the author in return for my honest opinion*

Going through my Amazon account I've noticed I had this book there, but it was never delivered to my Kindle. I didn't remember buying it, nothing. Hope to God it was KU at least.
Anyways, so I started reading it now.

Here's what I have so far:

1. Tilly is still living with her mom after she graduated college, because her mom didn't allow her to get her own place.

2. Tilly's stepbrother is a Marine and just came back from Afghanistan. He has nightmares. He doesn't speak much, at least not with Tilly. She think he sees her as his annoying little spoiled baby sister.

3. Tilly has a coffee at Starbucks with her bff. Sees her stepbrother coming through the parking lot, tries to hide in her chair, but he goes next door to a hardware store. He buys duct tape, zip ties, nylon rope and "some kind of dog chain or something.". Do you smell the BDSM coming your way?

4. He tries to get away from the parking lot, but Tilly jumps in his car and refuses to leave. He gives up and takes her to a warehouse, where he locks her in a sort of an office for hours. When he comes back she says "I'm going to tell my mother".

5. He says he's going to punish her for disobeying him. He moves fast and puts her over his lap. Then he makes her count as he's spanking her.

I don't think BDSM is a subject to joke about. I also need a connection between my characters. Something.
Mr. Beast didn't show any sign whatsoever of being attracted to his stepsister. So all of a sudden you spank her? 10% through the book?

No thanks. Definitely not for me.

I love stepbrother books…not sure why I do, but I do. I was really excited to read this one.

I was instantly drawn into the story. I loved the connection between Beast and Tilly. The book was going along just fine until the club was introduced. I’m not a huge fan of bdsm, so when that started to play a roll, I started checking out. It’s just not my thing and it lessened my enjoyment of the story. However, Tilly’s reactions to what she was seeing at The Bottom Floor were hilarious. I couldn’t stop reading. And I’m glad I didn’t because the book definitely became more that just BDSM. Yes, that played a part and they spent quite a bit of time there, so much so that during one scene in particular, I got a little bored with how long it went on, but I loved when they finally gave into their feelings and the story became more than just them hooking up at the club.

There were a couple of twists that were in the book and while I won’t say what those were, I will say that one I called (more because I’d hoped it to be true) and the other I did think of but discounted because I didn’t think it was likely. However, both twists were great. I loved them.

My least favorite part of the book was Tilly’s mom. I’m sorry that she was sick with Cancer and not doing well but for me, that didn’t excuse her treatment of Tilly. I felt like because she had cancer I was supposed to feel sympathy for her but with the way she treated Tilly, and the things she did to Tilly over the years, I didn’t. I just hated her.

Overall, I really did love this book. I especially loved that this was a full length novel and not a short thing that doesn’t have an end. I would definitely recommend it to others.

This was an okay read.
I found the lead female extremely whiny, and immature (considering she was a college graduate with a business degree).
There were times throughout the book where I was shaking my head thinking WTF, because it's like Tilly the lead female regressed to a 10 year old around her step-brother and her uber controlling mother.

Sorry, but this wasn't my favs :-(

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!
The queen of taboo has out done herself with this novel. There were a few twists and turns but you need to stay on the winding road to get to the pot of gold, and that is exactly what happens in this book. I loved Beast and Tilly, Liv needed a smack or two even though her heart was in the right place, Frankie was a hoot and Miles stole the show. We have a bit of everything in this book, BDSM club that has subs in training for something they never expected, a ton of secrets between family members, fun times between friends and of course a taboo relationship between step-siblings. Conrad "Beast"Deeston III is sex on a stick!

Cute. Weird. A bit predictable?

Step Beast was a really weird but cute book. It had a bit of mystery to it.. but then the weird step-sibling romance kind of got to me too. I ended up shipping the crap out of them towards the end of the book. Even if it was a bit messed up.

Conrad and Tilly had undeniable chemistry. They also had some secrets and a past. However, they never could stop loving one another. The twists, turns, and a baby secret kept me highly intrigued by everything going on in this book. I just wanted to know how it was going to end. I also really wanted to know who the bad guy really is. Well, I probably had a lot more questions than that.. but I'm tired and just want a nap right now.

In the end, I loved how everything eventually worked out. Yes, it was a bittersweet kind of ending. Secrets came out and everyone sort of moved on with their lives. Eventually everyone got happy and loved where they were in life. I really did end up enjoying this book and I look forward to the next book that I find from this author.

DNF at 78%... Lost my interest.
Frustrated me and made me wish I hadn't spent so much of my time reading it.

description

Let me tell why this was a total trainwreck. But be warned...

description

So I'll start by saying that the blurb is not only misleading. It's meant to create expectations that are not met at any moment. It's not romantic, it's not erotic, it's not sexy and not at all what you expect from BDSM.

Our MCs are just a mess!

So Conrad left Tilly some years back... When Beast returns, its a shitrainstorm of stuff that happens and some memories. In these memories of her past life with Beast, you interpret that Tilly is a virgin at the time and is now as well, when in fact she wasn't and isn't. Memories, thoughts, and dreams get mixed up so often that you can't follow the story. And when you get to know that they had sex quite frequently and they felt guilty for doing so, it confuses you even more! Cause Tilly seduced him and he tried to reject her most of the time...
Even in the dialogues, they mention past events when we don't have any clue of what point in time they're referring to.

It's really confusing how our female MC's mind works.
And that leads me to the most confusing detail, the reason why Tilly feels betrayed. I don't understand the betrayal part, because we don't get to experience Tilly's memories in a coherent way, nor do we live the past fully to locate ourselves in the current MC's emotions. The author just inserts you in a moment in time and its a cocktail of information and scenes that make no sense.

And it certainly doesn't help that Tilly's mind hasn't matured at all. She acts like a teenager throughout the book... A really innocent and clueless teenager. Which is basically being a hypocrite. It's baffling how her personality doesn't reflect her 20's AT ALL!
She's outraged by Conrad's actions, acting uncertain and threatening him with telling on him with her mom!
description

This from a person who already had sex and seduced her step-brother years back before Conrad went to the military.
I felt like an outraged panda with every one of her childish whims and naive thoughts! OMFG!

description

And Conrad... Well, he's supposed this tortured soul. He clearly has PTSD and daddy issues. When he comes back his father is already dead. He's violent, has nightmares and avoids Tilly at all cost and then acts all possessive.
Tilly and Beast have a lot of scenes with teenage banter throughout the book, and eventually, you discover that he's a Dom at this club. Don't remember the name and don't care... And the WTF's just weren't enough to describe how lost I was.

And guess how Tilly reacts to sex and BDSM?
description
Then...
description

This leads me to, the writing. It's badly done. If after 70% you don't know much about the characters, the events don't relate to the plot and you don't care anymore... Something is not working. One can't be sure if this is about love and betrayal. If it's about sexual discovery between two really sick people. Or! If it's about them discovering they like BDSM.

Which takes me to the BDSM parade scenes. It's stupidly executed. Our first BDSM scene is Tilly snooping on Conrad who's buying collars, chains, etc. Tilly has no clue why and gets in his car refusing to leave. He then takes her to a warehouse and locks her up for hours, comes back and spanks her for PUNISHING REASONS. The scene makes no sense! I mean... Talk about disastrous execution.

Above that, the author was trying too hard to make this underground world of sexual pleasure and dirty secrets and somehow connect it to our MCs and a mystery... It was more about Tilly looking at it as a circus act and discovering this whole new side of the BEAST. But actually its more about her finding out she likes it?
That's where I really got confused. Not only did our MCs make no progress what so ever, but they also live in denial. And then when BDSM is introduced it's NOT about them enjoying the act of sexual dominance and submission. It focuses on the community who enjoys these pleasures at this club and how Tilly is horrified and surprised by it.

I OFFICIALLY HATE TILLY!

And the secondary characters had me wondering their ages at every turn.

I sincerely don't know where this book was going. If it was about the relationship or something else...
Also, I can't decide whether there was any chemistry or love between these two. I didn't find any seduction or any sexual scene appealing. I was confused too because the first sex scene in the present has no BDSM in it. Conrad has a nightmare, Tilly goes to his bedroom and they do it. And I was like...

description
I am at a loss of words!

I just couldn't take it anymore...
description

I have no clue and I can't recommend it at all.

Content warnings: BDSM, sex, slut shaming, kidnapping, mentions of pregnancy and child being taken away from mother without consent, step sibling romance, mentions of a sex slavery ring, violence, death, suicide mention, alcohol use, drug use mention

I was given an ARC of this for a fair and unbiased review.

Well mostly unbiased. I can definitely say step sibling romance/sex is NOT MY THING. But if it's yours, kudos to you. It's not that I find it weird (well kind of but not for the reasons you think or I care to elaborate on) or wrong or fucked up or any other reason you may think. It's just not my thing. I knew that going into this book and also knew what this book was going to be about partially (I knew it was going to be erotica/romance about step siblings). So I'm not going to complain about that. But I was willing to give it a fair try because I've been known to be surprised by things that aren't my thing. This book is getting a lot of 5 star reviews on Amazon. And I can see why. But it didn't do it for me. Personally if I could, I'd give this 2.5 stars. But I'm being generous and rounding up.

This book hits a few of my own personal pet peeves. 1)sex without condoms (especially in BDSM/kink clubs, where, in my experience that's not allowed at all even in private rooms). 2)using cat o' nine tails, flogger, and whip interchangeably (you can't say you're being hit with a cat and then call it a flogging two distinct things. And then call it a whipping. Which is a completely different thing from the others. They might all occasionally get made out of the same materials but they're NOT the same and it seriously bothers me). 3) "Oh my gosh his penis is SO BIG!" *sighs* I'm just really tired of huge penis men in erotica. 4) "no we can't but we're going to anyway". 5)non consent being "justified".

Before I go further. Selena Kitt is a good writer. I'll give her that. I have quite a few of her books and have enjoyed reading them. This book just didn't hit all the "right" spots with me. And it's hard for me to explain why.

Tilly's mother is a huge fucking bitch. I HATE her. And am not very fond of her aunt for the comments she made. And I can't fucking forgive her mother for the shit she did. I don't care that it was in the name of "protecting" her. You don't do that shit to your child. And as for her aunt you don't say shit like that. It's fucked up.

In the end we wind up with a happily ever after and everyone's happy.

For Tilly's introduction into the BDSM scene I have to say quite a bit of it was fairly accurate and good. I don't necessarily agree with going from an over the knee spanking to an over the table spanking (actually that progression I don't have the problem with it's the next one I do) to being hit with a cat. That's quite a leap for someone new. And changing Doms on the sub without their knowledge or consent. That bothered me too. Because you're going to have different energy with different people. To the point that you actually can't play with some people because you're that incompatible.

I can't really talk more about it without spoiling the entire book so I won't.

All in all decent story. Good writing but just didn't really do it for me.

1.5 stars This had a good start but it went south fast. Beast and Tilly are steps. He’s back after deployment because Tilly’s Mom is dying of cancer. I think he tells Tilly to GET OUt 5 million times. I skimmed a lot. No feels were felt. There was no connect with the characters… a lot of different things going on in the plot. Probably would have been better if it just focused on Beast and Tilly instead of the mom, the friend, the bad guys, the aunt and baby, human trafficking,BDSM. You know my favorite saying???? ——Keep it simple stupid!

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have been a Selena Kitt fan for years. The original version of Under Mr. Nolan's Bed is one of my favorite hardcore erotica reads before the sex police (cough Amazon cough) got involved and started pulling all true taboo stories and all the authors had to alter their stories to make them more "acceptable". I've had less luck with some of her more current quickie reads, but that was usually due to the kink she was exploring was not my kind of kink. So when I got an email saying I could sign up for an ARC for Step Beast I was ALL over that. Repeatedly. Because when I didn't receive the ARC right away I got worried that maybe she had looked me up and didn't like the fact I only 2 starred some of her current stuff, but every time I got another email about signing up for the ARC I did...until the day finally came and it arrived in my inbox. YEAH! I immediately dived in since I knew she was on a time crunch. I realized less than 50 pages in I didn't want to write this review.
The short version is that the first 2/3 of the book ranged from a 2-2.5 star read for me, but I refused to let myself DNF an ARC from an author I liked. Thankfully the last 1/3 picked up and I was able to up the rating to 3 stars without feeling I was lying to myself and padding the rating just because I've liked so much of SK's writing in the past.
For those curious about the sex since SK writes all sorts: M/F, vanilla and BDSM lite. Although the sex is explicit it is really tame for a SK book.
For those who want more info on why I had such a problem with this book here goes....
Read the synopsis because that is the only real info you get on the back story for a long time. It felt like I was dropped into the story mid-way and it was up to me to figure out what was going on.
Tilly. She had 3 personalities traits: naive, too stupid to live, and brat. I have never been a fan of naive heroine, have often DNFed a book with a TSTL heroine, and I think a "brat" is only acceptable during a scene when she's looking to get punished. Sadly Tilly could run the gamut in one page and I ended up hating her almost immediately. For me there is nothing cute about a 22 year old entitled college graduate acting like a 2 year old. Her constantly whining about how her mother wouldn't let her get a dog, or move out, or have a life.....WTF??? You are 22! Get a job, get an apartment , get a freaking backbone. But no....it's even less understandable to me once we finally find out (very late in the book) what exactly went on in the past. How could a girl that had went through all that stay so clueless? Although I admire her for being able to forgive her mother for all the things she did I do NOT understand it. Her mother did some heinous things and not only do I not understand her foregiveness for her mother seriously damaging so many lives, but I never understood how her mother thought she was doing the best thing for her or any of the others that were involved.
Frankie. Supposedly Tilly's BFF who knows Tilly better than anybody and can read her like a book. Uh no. Frankie reads Tilly as if she's a book written in Braille and all her fingers are broken. Frankie has her head so far up her ass it's amazing she even realizes Tilly is a real person. Apparently she has no clue that there is history between Tilly and Beast, that Tilly is interested now even after she confesses about the spanking and does some serious naked flirting with Beast even though she's hooked up with Erich. Sigh. Considering all that goes on in the last 1/3 of the book I would seriously recommend that Tilly finds a new BFF.
Beast. He was the least offensive character for me. Your standard alpha male who occasionally delves into being an a-hole. We never really get too in depth with him which was disappointing because I really would have liked being able to understand his motivations for keeping quiet better.
So for the first two thirds of the book we get Tilly whining, drinking, chasing Beast and a few hot sex scenes (SK never fails to write some hot sex) then FINALLY we get to the last 1/3 when the plot twists kick in. The story got WAY better for me at that point. Although I had already figured out one of the twists it was fun to see it play out and the other twist dropped in from nowhere. It was a little jarring since we had no real clue and I wish that had actually been played out for longer because it brought some excitement and more importantly some growth from Tilly. I never got to the point of actually liking Tilly but I found her much more tolerable by the end.
Even though this was an ARC I didn't notice any glaring issues you sometimes find in an ARC and pray they get fixed before being released. There was one minor tidbit towards the end where Tilly supposedly told Frankie something during a time where I think it would have been physically impossible to do so, but It was 3am and I was trying to finish the book and was far too tired to go back and double check.
Despite my obviously mixed feeling about this book, and the fact SK will probably take me off her mailing list for future ARCs, I am happy I stuck it out and I know I'll be reading future books.

I really, really, really wanted to like Step Beast. I felt I should have liked it more simply because I admire this author and have read some excellent books she's written over the years.

For the record, there were parts that worked well, and then...

It felt flat to me like soda with no fizzle. The characters weren't bad but what worried me most was the question:

Am I placing my decided expectations on them?

Did I expect Conrad "Beast" Beesten to be dark, sinister and sadistic? Perhaps. As a Dom he is amazing, and will make your head spin, cause your blood to boil, and have you wondering can he be patented.

The redeeming point that kept me on edge? The "ultimate scene" between Beast and Tilly was mind-blowing. One of the best and most realistic BDSM session scenes I have read in a long while. Then fast forward, and something about Beast gets lost in translation. I'm glad he is not a quintessential bad boy arch-type; he is more than that and maybe that's why I was disappointed by the progression and the revelations that followed him around from scene to scene.

Mathilda aka "Tilly" is always being compared to her BFF Frankie who served no purpose except to remind you how opposites attract. Mathilda may have been the name of William the Conqueror's queen but it is so absurdly old fashioned, that I wonder if there was a point to naming her. The extreme is calling her "Tilly" which comes off as silly and ridiculous. Tilly was more doormat than heroine, more pushover and angst-ridden teen than extraordinary. Until she is transformed into the "ultimate" submissive in the scene I mentioned. That was when I truly liked her and found her interesting.

I'm still not sure if I even liked her friend Frankie all that much. Model-type and ego driven to Tilly's curvy martyrdom. Frankie was the It Girl to Tilly's Girl-Next-Door, and sometimes it was cliched and plain old predictable. And sometimes, I was over it too quickly.

I could say the same for the plot. The plot twist leaked for me long before it should have, and I was annoyed at myself for honing in on it. Some books you read once and you're fine, and this is how I felt except for that one gem of a scene. I could go back and re-read that one scene with Tilly and Beast that is darned amazing. Sadly, it didn't make this book better for me, in fact, I was more let down than ever. The back plots of Tilly's dying mother and the shady doings at the high-end but seedy club where Beast works, aren't enough to keep my ennui, while reading this, at bay. I adore Ms. Kitt's books but something from her earlier books was missing for me with Step Beast.

This one didn't hook me in and I was a little confused by a few things. The h is TSTL and portrayed as an annoying, controlled-by-mother, teenager throughout the entire book. It is revealed that she and her step-brother had a relationship one summer and he left and didn't return until his step-mother (h's mom) asked him to return as she is dying. I never felt the 2 main characters were ever involved with each other. h loves H. I never could tell by H's actions how he felt AT ALL. They don't have any meaningful conversation or true interaction in the first 60-70% of the book. If an alpha is described as someone who is plainly monosyllabic, treats his step-sister (h) as an annoying pest, and generally does not speak to anyone, then I guess this H qualifies. Trying to portray H as brooding, tormented and mysterious just didn't work in this one as H never has any dialogue with anyone. And just a note, the name Beast is a variant of his last name Beeston. 2 stars.

What a grip you to the end story! But then I wouldn't expect anything else from Selena Kitt.

There is so much hate, passion, love and deceit in this very compelling story. The things a person will do for love, be it parent, or lover, we see it all here in this gripping story. It also shows the harm that love can have on those around, the mistakes made in honor of that love.

Tilly can never get over her stepbrother Beast, that high school crush is still there after so many years of not seeing him. Not only does the high school crush linger, but her actions are those of a teenager. But there is so much more to Tilly.

Beast can't get far enough from Tilly, doesn't she understand that he is no good for her, or she for him?

This story kept me in it's grip all the way to the end, very compelling and so many surprises Ms. Kitt has done it again, this book is a definite hit!

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

Loved all the angst Was just enough but not too over the top. Kept me turning the pages and putting off my weekend chores to read til the end.

She remembers the long ago happiness

He knows how he is now...

But she wants the same, if he'll listen.

Can two hearts broken over time reunite to become whole again?

Wow..Step Beast, I started the book thinking it would be "another" stepbrother romance..a slam bam..thank you sis....

How wrong I was (although I do like those books as well), this was a wonderful book. It was the taboo stepbrother/stepsister romance, but it was also had some bdsm, a hint of danger with a couple of SHOCKING TWISTS that I cannot tell you, as I want you to discover it as you read.

It was a AWESOME book, a beautiful angsty romance. The relationship between Tilly and the Beast was so filled with sadness and desire and so much love and trying to right all the wrongs... I could not stop reading, I read it in one setting..and I bet you will too!

Surprisingly good. A little stepbrother kink. I don't really get what's supposed to be so taboo. They're not even related. Geez. But seriously hot....with tattoos and a piercing. And *gasp* an actual plot. Hallelujah. 3.5 stars.

I didn't even finish reading the sample. Not the book for me, not with such an un-compelling heroine, childish, unable to stand for herself. When she really acted like the child she wasn't supposed to be I gave up.

DNF well over the 60% mark.
Starts promising then the story gets stupider by the page.
I really enjoy Selena Kitt's smut but this book is not just smut and her storytelling didn't work for me.

This is probably closer to 3-1/2 stars. It was definitely entertaining, and parts were definitely steamy, but you expect the steam from a Selena Kitt story. One thing that bothered me was that Tilly seemed much younger than her years much of the time. The way she poked at Beast was definitely little-sisterish, and considering their history (that we find out about later), it doesn't seem to quite fit. It was good to find out at the end that Beast had just been bait for Erich to dangle -- that he wasn't really a dog. I found it a bit strange, after Tilly's brush with death, that she didn't check in on her mom... but I guess she was distracted? Anyway, I was glad with how everything turned out.

I was completely impressed by Step beast. I was expecting a light read but I got an amazing book. There 24 chapters that will steal your time and keep you turning pages until 2 am. The story is intriguing and the characters have depth. There is danger, mystery, deceptions, lies, revelations, forgiveness, smoldering sex scenes and deep unbreakable love. Tilly's so broken but she loves Beast unwaveringly. Even with wounds that are so deep, She gives forgiveness quickly and freely. Beast has come a long way from the wounded young man he was, to a man who has given his Tilly every part of his heart and soul. He will do whatever it takes to keep her this time.

I was a little unsure what to expect when I started this book and I didn't really think it was my "type of thing". But boy was I wrong! I'm so glad that I continued with this book because the more I read the more attached and intrigued I became with Beast and Tilly. Sure this is not a traditional romance but the story is fantastic and the characters are loveable (in their own ways). I would highly recommend this book to fans of the romance genre.

I received this book for an honest review. I am giving this a 3.75 star rating. This story was about Mathilda "Tilly" and Conrad "Beast" and how their relationship blossomed. It was a well written story to where you can stay interested and keep reading. It's about their continuation of a taboo relationship they started years before. Due to certain circumstances it had to end.

The character development was good. Beast is a typical man. He tries to keep Tilly at arms length and doesn't want to admit the fact that he loves her. He believes he will ruin her life. The author kept his character consistent (even though he cried one time. I let it side though considering what was happening).

Tilly was a little immature for me at the beginning. At one point it seemed like she was bitter because she had no control over her own life and Beast could do whatever he wanted. She loved him but she would do childish things to get his attention. She would pout a lot and be nosy to no end and for no reason. I know she wanted to be near Beast, but that wasn't the way. Thankfully throughout the story she learns that there are rules to the boys' club and rules to the girls' club. And once she learned that she stopped acting immature.

I was anticipating great sex scenes. When a summary/descriptive paragraph starts off saying that he is called Beast because he f..ks like one, I expect something to blow my mind. The story lacked in this area. There might have been one scene where it got interesting for me.

As stated before, the story was well written. But it got boring towards the end for me. It seem like the author was stretching it out for no reason. The book could have been shorter and still had the same effect on the storytelling. Also, the plot took a turn that I felt was unnecessary. The part with the trafficking didn't add any value for me. This was the main reason for my low reading. Once Tilly's secret was out the story could have focused on that and the reconciliation of the relationship between the 2 main characters.

One thing I loved was how the author didn't have to flashback with the sexual relationship they started over one summer. She strategically place the details into the story without diluting it. Overall, there were a lot of good parts to this book. I was expecting something different but still good.

Conrad "Beast" Beeston III’s was back and Tilly could not get him out of her mind. Too many things had happened between them and she had been badly hurt but she still loved him. She had her secrets and her own drama with her mother’s illness so it was a bad timing for her. Beast was cold and secretive with her like she was a nuisance but she knew better than that. Annoyed with her, he took her to his place of work and she got punished. Beast spanked her! And you know what? She enjoyed it a lot! She felt aroused and wanted more but he finished with her and forbid Tilly to disobey him again. Unknown to him she went back to the place, a club with a BDSM private section, with her friend Frankie. She felt intrigued and aroused by what she saw there. She got to find out what he was doing in a BDSM club and decided to each time get more. She and Beast were having sex (again) in a “No, no we can’t but Yes, yes we can’t help it” situation. Meanwhile, we know that Beast was struggling with his feelings for Tilly. He was not so cold and detached from her as he wants to seem but for her safety he thought he had to get away. When he found out what Tilly and Frankie were doing in the club he warned both of them but they paid no attention and got in a very serious situation where both of her lives were in danger. This story had a lot of twist that made it very intriguing and suspenseful. Tilly’s character had a lot of ups and downs. Sometimes she seemed like a frightened and hesitating child with a vivid imagination and other times she had the mind of a cunning sleuth. (Remember me the teenager in the Scary Movies who goes in the dark and the killer got her). It was funny her changes of character. She displayed a lot of emotions in the story. Beast was hurt by his father death, the war and his situation with Tilly. He did not trust her and gave her a chance so he endangered her. (Not the perfect guy). But the author made all this became an interesting story with family secrets that we are eager to know, lot of steamy sex with detail descriptions and to top the development of the story there was an illicit traffic with lot of action. Enjoyed it, liked the characters and the plot. Good for the author!

This book had a great premise; stepbrother comes home, is haunted by his life as a Marine, little stepsister wants to comfort him... But essentially she rapes the dude while he sleeping.

This book was supposed to be a TABOO romance, but there was nothing taboo about it. Also, the little sister was annoying as hell. If I were him, I'd lock her in her bedroom and throw away the key. Holy hell, that girl got on my last nerve!

Sorry, this book was a DNF for me, I couldn't make myself care for either character, and the sex was as flat and cold as a penguin's arse. There was no tension, nothing to keep the reader going.

I doubt I will give Selena Kitt another try.
