A worthy addition to the Haynes Great Cars Series, this book chronicles the history of the legendary Mini, from humble beginnings as the brainchild of Alec Issigonis, through 41 years of production, to its rightful status as a British motoring icon. The author also devotes space to the Mini’s success in motor sport, where it proved to be a formidable performer. Detailed, authoritative and highly illustrated throughout, this is the essential guide to the Mini’s evolution from ubiquitous saloon, through practical, utility and upmarket variants, to the feisty Coopers.
I have been a mini fan for years and a few weeks ago I became the proud owner of a MINI one. Ok its not a traditional mini, but I can just about change a light bulb so I need a car that just works.
With this in the background I have been keen to read everything that I can about mini's. This book was the first one that I managed to get hold of from a local library.
Its a bit of a mix. There are lots of pictures and that makes it a fun book just to flick through. There is a reasonable amount of history of the car. There are sections on rally driving and sections on mechanical development. A chapter on cancelled mini projects and an overview of various models of mini's.
If you want a book that just deals with mechanical development of the mini, or if you want to read about mini in rally driving or a detailed list of the various mini models. Then this book might leave you wanting to read more. However for me its a good book to start with.

p.s. just a note this book deals just with the traditional Mini and not the BMW MINI.
