About the author

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan is an Islamic spiritual scholar, who has adopted peace as the mission of his life. He was born in a family of landlords in 1925 at Badharia, a village near the town of Azamgarh, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (formerly known as the Eastern United Provinces).

After his father’s death in December 1929 he was brought up by his mother, and his uncle, Sufi Abdul Hamid Khan, arranged for his education. He comments that becoming an orphan very early in life taught him that, to succeed in life, you have to take such situations as challenges and not as problems. Being an advocate of result-oriented and positive action, he explains that treating such situations as problems can only be negative in result. All you can do in this state is either try to fight to remove them or lodge complaints or protests against them. On the other hand, if you take such situations as challenges, you can positively and constructively work to overcome them yourself, as and when suitable opportunities present themselves. His success in life is largely due to the implementation of this and other such principles, which he has derived from Islamic scriptures.

مُجمل الگتاب يتمحور حول فكرة ان الإسلام نقل العالم أجمع الى التحضر والتعلم والتفكير، اي انه التغيير الاسلامي لم يقتصر على المسلمين بل على العالم أجمع، وهذا كله دلالة على قوته وثباته وصحته.
عرض في البداية كيف كانت عقول الناس عندما طغت عليها الشركيات والخرافات وتأثير ذلك كلّه على التقدم العلمي، ثم عرض كيف كان ذلك وأمثلة عليه ، وعن حضارة الرومان وكيف كان دور المسلمين في بزوغها ونشرها، ذكر معادلات غابت عنا في ان كثيراً من الإنجازات من غير المسلمين أخذوها المسلمين من كمّل عليها، او ترجمها اوأطلعها على العالم أجمع ، وضح كيف غدا المسلمين بعد ذلك بوابة التقدم والتفكر العلمي سواءاً فيما أحدثوه او ما ترجموه من علوم أخرى ، ثم اختتم الكتاب بالحديث عن المواضيع التي كانت تمثل اشكالية في عالم الشرك والخرافة ، ووقفت ضد تقدمهم العلمي مثل : حرية التعبير والتفكير وحرية التدين والمساواة والتسامح الديني وعلم الفلك وغيره ، جا الإسلام فتبدلّت الأفكار وأصبح العالم يطالب بالتطّور والتغير لذلك سمّاه الكاتب بالثورة الإسلامية .
جميل جداً ومع ان التكرار فيه قد يُصيب القارئ بالملل إلا ان جمالية الموضوع يحث على مواصلة القراءة.

كتاب رائع كمعلومات .. كفكر وحجج ضعيف للأمانة .. أتفق معه أن التوحيد كان مبدع العصر الحديث لكن إقصاءه لكل الأسباب الأخرى، وأحيانًا تشعر أنه لم يبحث في تاريخ الإسلام بشكل جيّد، هناك سطحية في حديثه وليس في المعلومات (الرائعة) ..

نجمتين لأنني استفدت منه كثيرًا كمعلومات وفتح لي قنوات فكر، لكن الثلاث نجوم يستحقها من يربط هذه المعلومات بفكر أعمق!

خفيف في حجمه، ممتاز في محتواه.
وضح بشكل جيد كيف يكون التوحيد بوابة رئيسية للعلم الصحيح ومساهمته بتفكيك العقل البشري من أغلال الوثنية.

Another day and another refreshing read. It always feel good to pick Maulana Wahidudeen Khan sb's books and reading this one was equally great.

Islam: Creator of the modern age is a book that shows how Islam has contributed to the formation of modern scientific era.

Before reaching its present-day zenith, the modern, scientific age had to pass through three stages. The first was marked by the eradication of the superstitious mentality, the second saw the practical beginnings of scientific research, and the third is the spectacular culmination of the scientific process in the second half of the twentieth century. The book examines the contribution of Islam, throughout its first millennium, for completion of the first two stages.

Also it discusses how monotheism opened the doors of research and investigation by displacing nature from its sacred pedestal. These were my favourite chapters.

Author also debates that "there is no doubt that the scientific revolution was set in motion by the Arab Muslims. But the initial stimulus came from the new way of thinking which had been made possible by Islam. Logically, the history of science can no longer extol the achievements of just one nation, but shows science as a gift of the religion sent by God Almighty for the eternal guidance of mankind."

I desired a little bit more depth of such arguments which I couldn't find in this book but still it can work as a headstart for exploring oceans ahead.

Indeed a good read.

كتاب كافي وافي، ينقل صورة حسنة وجميلة بكل منهجية وموضوعية ودون أي تحيّز عن أثر الدين الإسلامي العظيم على العالم أجمع، هذا الدين الذي غيّر وبدّل العادات والتقاليد والأفكار التي جعلت الإنسان في السابق يعيش في وحل من الخرافات والأوهام، هذا المنهج الرباني الحق الذي أخرج البشرية من الظلمات إلى النور وجعلهم يترابطون ويتحدون تحت راية واحدة ثابتة دائمة باقية إلى يوم القيامة، إنها لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله.

الكتاب وجيز ومختصر بطريقة جذابة تساعد الكثير على أخذ النقاط الأولى في هذا المجال الواسع جدًا.

This is an interesting, surface-level look at how Islam may have contributed to various components which make up our modern world. Although there are some strong and interesting points, the author is plainly wrong about some things within the religion itself let alone its historical impact on the world as a whole. Nonetheless informative if taken with several grains of salt.
