Reason for Reading: This is a great hi/lo series for reluctant male readers.
You couldn't find a person less interested in sports than me, but I really look forward to reading the books in this series. Once again, "Riptide Pride" matches the quality of the others in the series. Written at a low reading level (1.5) or GRL (J) it will appeal to boys up into their mid-teens. The characters in this book are all 14 yo. The story revolves around a boy known to be a great surfer who is bullied by the school braggart into competing with him to prove who is the best surfer. Things take a turn for the worse when the braggart moves out to the rock infested no surfing zone. An exciting story with realistic teens combined with comic book quality art are sure to keep reluctant sports minded teens reading.
