I finished this book pretty fast and I liked it, but the heroine will got on my nerves through most of the book. It started off great, with her as a strong professional female whose kindness and expertise at her job was a nice start to her character. However, as the book progressed, she became sometimes helpless, overly sensitively antagonistic and just plain stupid.
The hero, who was a more interesting figure was infinitely patient with her hysterics, too patient, in my opinion, especially since he did not know her at all and had already fell head over heels in love with her. There was almost an entire disc spent on one sexual episode. It was well written but overdone.
Despite that, I did like the overall story and the heroine, Kari, did have to face quite a lot of hardship at the beginning of the novel, and so her behavior then was somewhat understandable, although again, stupid. Unfortunately, most of the book is about her bad behavior and how it escalates. It takes her a year to finally forgive the man who has stood by her despite her mean-spirited and juvenile tactics.
One of the reasons I stuck with it is because the reader of the audio books is Susan Erickson, one of my favorites, and it wasn't an overly long book. I just kept expecting there would be more to the story, but by the end, I was glad for it's length. It probably was more like 2 and 1/2 stars.
