Not every tale can be a love story. When reality is faced not everyone will have that happy ending with a picture perfect life. Tyra’s story is the prime example of this. Sometimes women get so caught up on what they want things to be that they lose sight of what it really is. Not every man is for every woman. Jahrein is several girls’ dream, but is Raven’s reality. Tyra desperately wants Raven’s reality to somehow become hers, but soon discovers that in life you can’t always get what you want. Take a ride with a sassy, sexy, persistent Tyra. Love seems to be the element in her life that proves ever eluding. Still, she pursues love at all cost, and is willing to wager it all just to feel a fleeting moment of its embraces. Loving the wrong man can have detrimental effects on a girl with an already internally damaged heart. They Don’t Know Me gives you a new perspective on the novel Hold It Down Like Sister and Brother. Told in first person, this tale will give you a front row seat to all the juicy details you’ve wondered about with Jahrein and Raven’s infamous relationship. Sometimes you may think you know, but you truly have no clue.
Nicole Jackson never lets me down! This was a 5 star read. It was nice to have a back story on Jahrein and Tyra's relationship. Hold it Down left us with questions. I still don't like Tyra but I did feel bad for her. She was so dumb for men that it didn't make no sense. She had potential but she let men be her down fall. She spent everyday of her adult life worried about Jahrein when he wasn't worried about her. Jah did have some type of feelings for her just not enough to even compare her to Raven. Tyra was living in a fantasy world. I can't wait for Freeze to come out. That sample was everything! I did feel bad for JJ though. Its not his fault his was born into a crazy situation. The other kids should treat him better and he needs to know the truth not what Melissa is telling him. #Jahrein&Ranven
Jah has spit on this girl so many times she can't believe he love her. She is coco for coco puffs. Jah should of been off limits on the strength of Melissa being pregnant for him. Raven should've got a hold to Tyra a few more times. Tyra is crazy deranged and delusional.
This book was sad. Tyra was a hopeless little girl in all actuality. No one ever took the time out to help her cope with the death of her parents and that led her down a path of self destruction. This book answered some questions from previous books. It was a good story.
I was reluctant to read this book because I LOATHE Tyra. I already had a love/hate relationship with Jahrein and this book just solidified that for me. This was a story that needed to be told, but reading it did not make me sympathize with Tyra, it actually made me dislike her more. I feel like Tyra let her "love" for a man who clearly didn't want her consume her and ultimately take her away from the one man who needed her the most, JJ. She was delusional and so starved for love that she took any attention from Jah as a sign that he wanted her even when he told her that she would never replace Raven. She made her bed so she had no choice but to lay in it. Nicole Jackson stayed true to her other books with the storyline which makes me enjoy her books even more.
A worst-case scenario of a lost girl searching for love
Tyra was not raised right or taught self-worth causing her to be emotionally unstable and delusional. She wanted attention, affection as well as, unconditional love. Tyra was weak and gullible. I felt sorry for Tyra. I read through all of the craziness even though my better judgement warned me to stop. The desperation expressed in the plot held me hostage; I just had to see how this story ended. There are some grammatical errors. This book is FULL of drama and recommended for the true urban fiction fan.
Everything about this book was great. It gave a reality from a lost girls perspective and a glimpse of how your up bring could destroy you emotionally. Nobody likes Tyra however everyone knows someone like her or has been her at some part of their life's. Side chicks are lost chicks and this book gave a good detailed description of their thought process and reasoning. Good job Nicole !
As usual Nicole Jackson delivered a great story. Tyra was a lost soul that was just looking for love, but she didn't find it. Jahrien seems to be the man that all the ladies want but he doesn't want them. Tyra chasing him like no other. The ending wasn't a shock due to reading She Got It, but it was nice to read the story from Tyras POV. Can't wait to read the next book.
Tyra was a messss.. she’s made me so mad with how she stood in the way of her own happiness... over a ninja at that.. And this made Jah go down the ladder of my favorite male characters cause he really ain’t shhh... lol like at all... it was interesting to see her point of view though.. good read. I love how all these characters come together.. it’s like a real little world lol. I love it.
This was alllll Jahrein's fault. Although, Tyra was dead wrong, he led her on for years. If he wouldn't have been messing with her, then she wouldn't have gotten pregnant. Raven is/was a lost soul too. Jah treated everyone like trash, including himself.
Tyres story was crazy she was a fool and there was no explanation for the ish she did and put up with for love. Hah was a dude and was doing what dudes do loved this story can't wait to read the next banger from Nicole Jackson
Tyra let Shell get in her head so much it was as if she couldn't think for herself. It's crazy she lost her life being a follower. Jahrein and Raven have been through some mess but in the end love wins.
Great read... but I still don’t feel sorry for her.. Jahrein led her along and it was okay until he was caught. I would love to see a love story about Jaylen and Chantel. Chantel sounds rowdy but seems like a real rider. Keep up the good work!
This sorry was bananas I tell you. The length that tyra went thru to get love even when she was warned she kept going. Love and the hopes to be love can take you over.
This is a retelling of Hold it down from Tyra s perspective. I didn't think it was necessary at first because in the first book she seemed like just another villain in someone else s story but I was wrong ,it was very necessary because it explained a lot
about Jahrein s headspace in having an affair with her for so long when he claimed to love Raven so much something I never understood. There is a saying that goes "it is impossible to find yourself in a situationship unless one person has compromised self -esteem( Tyra) and one person has compromised intergrity "(Jahrein) and never has a saying fit a story better. It was a " situationship" because Jahrein was clearly in a relationship(with Raven) that he was determined would go the distance .In his mind he was always certain that that was the woman he would be with for the rest of his life. There was never any hope of him leaving Raven for Tyra (which he was pretty clear about to Tyra)and he wasn't really moved if Tyra stuck around or moved on ,he would have replaced her with someone else . Despite this Tyra literally spent years trying to make this thing with Jahrein into a relationship and was willing to settle for the dubious title of slightly less than a sidechick. Why do I say less than a side chick ? The way Jahrein was comfortable offering up her sexual favours to his friends like Ray -Ray etc isnt even sidechick level standard. She spent literal years building up the smallest act of kindness from this man into some grand gesture of affection . He bought her her favourite childhood candy and she was super touched. The worst part of it all which does not speak well of Jahrein s character is he saw through her ,realised how low her self esteem was ,how pathetic and damaged she was and not only used her but also allowed her to waste years of her life on him when he knew he would drop her if it ever threatened his "real" relationship with Raven . It s really grimy for him to then turn around and say "I never lied to you ,you always knew what this was " as an excuse for allowing her to invest so much time and emotion in him . The one thing both Tyra and Jahrein had in common was that they both didnt like Tyra enough
Nicole recently posted about this book and it prompted me to go back and read it...... lets just say I skipped it for a reason and I should've left it in the skipped pile. 😂 Tyra was exactly who I thought she was.
Nicole has a way of penning her stories in a manner that'll have you empathizing with the villain..... unfortunately that didn't happen this time around. I actually dislike her more now. 😂 And while Jahrein was dead wrong for the part he played, Tyra got exactly what she deserved in the end.
I didn't feel sorry for that at all...she was dumb enough to let ppl keep putting thoughts n her head. What I don't understand is how was all that ravens fault...she knew bout her from the beginning. Everybody was hating on raven and she ain't even did nothing. Don't get me wrong Jah was wrong for a lot of stuff to but tyra should've walked away. It seemed like everybody was screwing everybody
To me this story was one sided jahrein was playing tyra from the start and tyra had no business entertaining him from the start . coming down to the end we herd from jah perspective but he wasn't really accepting his role in the fall out every action has a reaction it would have Ber great if tyra got a better ending an got to evolve from child hood problems and got to make amends
THIS BOOK WAS REALLY LONG BUT GOOD NON THE LESS. I ENJOYED HOW THE STORYLINE GREW AND WE REALLY GOT TO SEE HOW THINGS PLAYED OUT. I'M SO USED TO HAPPY ENDINGS AND THIS ONE LEFT ME THINKING DANG. OVERALL A GOOD READ.
Jahrien and Rayven are hands down my favorite Nicole Jackson couple. Their relationship is so complex and Ms. Jackson does such a great job in delivering and maintaining their bond. After reading Hold It Down:Like Brother Like Sister and then The Game Never Changes, there were so many questions I needed answers to. This book about Tyra did not disappoint, it answered all of my major questions such as, Exactly how deep was Jah's feelings for Tyra? I also wanted to know the dynamics between Tyra and her cousin, post JJ and the dynamics between Shell's and Tyra's "friendship". Ms. Jackson definitely shed light on these questions and had me arching my eyebrow at few additional discoveries. I am forever a fan of this author and her intricate and bold way of story telling. Reading Tyra's story was like sitting down and getting an earful of the juiciest gossip. This was definitely a nice way to spend my Sunday afternoon and to fellow readers I definitely recommend this read
As expected I loved it. This was a very entertaining story. But more than that Ms Jackson touched on topics we really don't wanna address. Yes Tyra is the most likable character but it's so many Tyras in the world her voice needed to be heard. Again I enjoyed this read. She always consistent and never disappoints.
The story from Tyra's perspective. It was everything!!! I can't even say I feel bad for her but I can say once again Nicole Jackson wrote a good story and it was a treat to read.
What woman has a baby after knowing the man isn't in to her but get up set could the man already got a family from his wife. Then get mad could he don't want to be a father to a baby he didn't want.
I gave this book a 5 star rating because it was a very good book. I'm glad she told the story from tyra's point of view. It gave you insight to why Tyra acted like she did. Just a good book overall, now I want to go back and re read jah and Raven story again
