Piper and the Tooth Bandits were a fun bunch of characters to meet. I especially enjoyed when they decorated their scooters and competed against one another.

The Stella and the Night Sprites series centers around Stella and her newfound ability to see Night Sprites after meeting a lady at a jewel shop in town who seems to have "enhanced" Stella's glasses. In this story Stella, Beth, and Emily are having a sleepover and there are loose teeth involved. When Beth loses her tooth, Stella hopes her glasses will allow her to see the fabulous Tooth Fairy, but Stella sees a sprite instead. Her interactions with the sprite begin negatively as she considers this sprite to be a thief. As the chapters continue, Stella recognizes there are reasons for the behavior that Stella thought was mean and helps the sprite to find a solution without hurting Beth's chances at her tooth fairy visit. The story is sweet and has many illustrations to support the text along the way. Perfect for young chapter book readers who still need support as their reading endurance builds!

Branches is a super popular group of series books in my library due to our Scholastic Book Fairs. I do not have many of this particular series, but it is the same format and I am sure it will be loved! I like the questions at the end of the book to guide discussion and thinking about the story characters. I love the limited words on a page and the extra wordless space (I often say white space, but this one has more gray space than white.)

It’s hard to rate books when I know I am not the target audience. However, as a parent I am always on the lookout for books I would love for my children to read and recommend. Unfortunately this would not be one of them.

There are so many other books out there that are aimed at the same audience but are cleverly written or have more imaginative stories. As part of Scholastic’s Branches this is supposed to encourage early readers but I fear this would be more of a chore for them to read. Not much life or character to this one. Dnf.

Stella has special glasses that allow her see sprites. When her tooth comes out and a tooth bandit steals her coin from the tooth fairy, Stella finds a way to get her coin back and prevent the bandits from stealing coins from other children.

Cute, simple little story with nice drawings. The little sprites are adorable.

Fave scene: decorating the scooter.

There was a mean part. One fairy stole gold from the tooth-fairy.

Because of special glasses, Stella is able to see sprites and fairies. When her friend Beth loses a tooth, Stella stays up hoping to see the Tooth Fairy. Instead of the Tooth Fairy, Stella watches a sprite steal her friend's money! It turns out that the sprite wants something shiny on her scooter. Stella makes a friend of the Bandit and helps her decorate her scooter with sequins and streamers. Together they help the other Bandits decorate their scooters so that they will leave the tooth fairy money alone. Book 2 is very similar to the first book in the series. And though I liked this book a bit more, it is almost the same story, just with Tooth Bandits replacing the Night Sprites.

It's not necessary to read this series in order, I purposely read number 2 without having read 1 and understood what was going on just fine, and I think kids will too. Just right light fantasy for 2nd/3rd graders who are comfortable reading Magic Tree House and Junie B.

There is a girl with magical glasses who attends a sleepover. Her friend's tooth falls out at the sleepover. A fairy tooth bandit comes in the night to steal the coin that the tooth fairy leaves. But, the girl with magic glasses stops her. This is a good book and I like it.
