Return to the heart of the Carlton family in this beloved story of finding love in unexpected places by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods Charismatic playboy Mack Carlton lit up a room—even a hospital room—like no one else. Dr. Beth Browning had to admit Mack's visits were a tonic for her young patient, but her own reaction was much more confusing… Although Beth didn't ask for a second opinion on her future with Mack, his aunt Destiny offered her marriage. Given Mack's romantic history and her own wariness due to past losses, Beth hesitated to agree—but her symptoms were undeniably love!
With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
The back and forth between Mack and Beth was so good as they sought balance in this unexpected relationship. Some bits toward the end brought me out of the story some but delightful read overall. 4 stars. Reread June of 2024 : 3 stars this time. Library sale book, a discard pbk from their collection. (Too much bedroom 4 this reader.) Bone marrow transplant of child with cancer. Destiny (meddling matchmaker is a hoot.) Setting: Washington, DC
Author: Sherryl Woods First published: 2004 Length: 3436 kindle locations Setting: Contemporary Sex: Infrequent. Not overly explicit. Heroine: Oncologist / Researcher Hero: Former footballer now part owner of football team Includes: Excerpt from Treasured
Not a lot to say about this series. It’s easy, well written, Harlequin bubblegum.
It’s all about two people from different places who find love.
Nice extra bit of a sick child (unrelated to either MCs) who gives them a reason to see the best side of each other.
Enjoyable.
Perfect Destinies / Million Dollar Destinies: Book 1 Isn't It Rich? - Richard Carlton and Melanie Hart Book 2 Priceless - Mack Carlton and Dr Beth Browning Book 3 Treasured - Ben Carlton and Kathleen Dugan Book 4 Destiny Unleashed - Destiny Carlton and William Harcourt
As I continue on my journey through Sherryl Woods Perfect Destinies series, Priceless is Mack's tale of finding true love. All of the Carlton men have closed off their hearts to love. The death of their parents when they were young has made them afraid of feeling that kind of pain again.
Destiny, their aunt, will not rest until all the boys that she has brought up are happily married. She has turned out to be quite a devious matchmaker. Despite all his fighting his feelings Richard, the oldest, did find love with Melanie thanks to his aunt.
Now it is Mack's turn. He is a famous football player who has developed quite a reputation. Now retired due to an injury he has become part owner of the team. He is asked to visit a sick little boy in the hospital. It is there that he meets Dr. Beth Browning.
You will definitely shed some tears as Mack makes many visits to see Tony, the sick little boy. Then Beth becomes someone he can confide in about his concern for Tony. Now you will have to read the book to find out how and if they get their HEA. Loved everything about this book.
Good read. Aunt wants her nephews all married so she meddles. This time, she strong arms her ex-football-player nephew into visiting a boy with cancer at the hospital with the intention of introducing him to the boy's overworked but lovely doctor. She has a dim view of jocks, but he changes her mind. There's a fair bit of cute interaction with the aunt and his brothers. It's a sweet, heartwarming story and I liked it.
Once again we find the aunt trying to find a wife for nephew #2. What makes this story interesting is that the author addresses the search for a bone marrow donor for a young boy who really needs it.
Un libro lleno de emociones. Para llorar, para reír, para enamorarte y disfrutar con este grupo de personajes que se cuelan, incluso en contra de tu voluntad, en tu corazón. Muy recomendado, merece la pena. Sherryl Woods nunca defrauda.
It's been awhile since I've read this author, folks. Turns out this recent edition is a reprint from 2004. With it's refreshingly classy book cover and sweet, dedicated, hard working cancer doc heroine, I fell for this romantic tale, despite the stereotypical former football celebrity jock who seemed convinced the heroine deserved more than he could ever give, his heart. Good thing for us he surrendered it long before he realized it.
I loved how independent and strong the heroine came across. It was also great how she was not impressed by his fame and fortune, but instead was attracted to the man behind the mask. Sure, he was slow to come to his senses and admit to himself there was no turning back the clock and undoing his feelings for this leading lady. There are quite a few teary eyed moments involving a sub-character battling cancer, as well.
Romance Safety Gang:
(These comments are based on a library edition. This is not a detailed ARC review.)
Former football star and playboy Mack Carlton is sent to the hospital to visit a young patient by his aunt Destiny. Destiny is a romantic matchmaker and the young patient Tony's doctor is the intelligent, beautiful doctor Beth. As Mack has grown attached to Tony and his doctor. A romantic feeling overcomes both of them. Is story tells how their love grows and how his status as a former ball player turns out to be just what Tony needs to have a recovery from his illness. A good read.
This was not much of a story as from the very beginning the reader could tell that there was a set up between Mack Carlton and Dr. Beth Browning. A young patient was sick with a serious illness and Mack was asked to go in and visit with him. Mack was taken with this sick young man and began to visit him every day. Dr. Beth Browning was his physician. His Aunt Destiny was known to want to set up all her nephews with romance and marriage. No mystery here.
Sheryll Woods has become one of my favorite authors. I have to say I like this look better than the first one even though the first one was great this was much better can't wait to read the other two in the series. She is an amazing writer and I have read many of her series my favorite being Chesapeake Shores.
I love they way Sherryl Woods writes; her characters are easy to like and care about. The characters in this book are equally likeable and endearing.
The book tells the story of a typical playboy and a pediatric doctor and their journey to love while both try to save a little boy emotionally and physically.
Easy predictable read between Mack, the ex-football player and Beth, the doctor. Once again Aunt Destiny has match made her #2 nephew with the extra plot of Tony, the child with Leukemia. Warm story with good ending for all.
Destiny is at it again--matchmaking Mark Carlton to Dr. Emily Browning.Add one very sick 12 year old in the hospital and Mark doesn't stand a chance of being a bachelor very long. The story was good enough, but predictable.

She's the devoted doctor who works hard and has no time for a personal life. He's the former pro-football player never lacking for female companions. But when Mack befriends a young boy suffering from leukaemia, Beth finds herself drawn in by the former jock who is more than he first appears. Add in a matchmaking auntie, meddlesome family members and a gossip journalist - Mack and Beth's romance is anything but smooth.
I liked this one more than the first book in the series. Mack is Richard's (from Isn't It Rich) little brother and it was nice to see things on the other foot. Mack had a lot of fun at Richard's expense and I liked seeing a little payback. Destiny was wonderful as the somewhat mischievous match maker and the third brother, Ben, was fun to read too.
This is a very lighthearted and fun romance series. I liked the characters and despite the plot lacking surprises - it was an enjoyable journey.
This book is pretty good. It's a love story about a football player and a doctor who is caring for a boy that needs a bone marrow transplant. It is sweet, loving and generous. The football player, Mark Carlton is the type of guy we all hope to meet. I really like the doctor too. Beth Browning, DR is a kind, loving DR who treats this boy like he is the only one that matters.
The author, Sherryl Woods did a good job on this book. I liked the story-line especially. I love happy endings when it comes to cancer. The narrator, Teri Schnaubelt delivers another perfect narration, complete with multiple voice, emotions and accents. I love listening to her voice.
I received this audio book as a gift. This is my honest review.
Playboy and football great Mack Carlton is having too much fun. Marriage is definitely not in his plans. But his interfering aunt has other ideas. Visiting the hospital to grant a dying boy his wish, Mack meets dedicated doctor Beth Browning who's dedicated to saving the boy's life. She is not the type of woman he has been attracted to in the past, but as he visits the boy and they get to know each other sparks fly. Some of the events in this story are a bit unrealistic, such as the doctor suddenly finding a cure for the boy's cancer, but the book delivers plenty of romance and a happy ending.
I love reading Sherryl's books and this was no different. The twist and turns are great and the endings leave a feel good feeling every time. This is one of her older books and it is what I call a "Cranium Candy Book" meaning that it is short and can be read quickly. I had to go to some appointments and it was perfect for sitting and reading while I waited. Thanks again Sherryl for keeping us entertained.
3.8. Super cute love story. Very light, funny, and enjoyable. It is predictable, but that doesn't take away from the story's charm. The characters are well developed and extremely likable. I'd love to meet dr. Beth, Aunt Destiny, and of course Tony and Mack. We need people that that in the real world!
This is the second book in the Perfect Destinies Series and it is a real heart warming tear jerker. Mack Carlton has finally met his match when his Aunt Destiny made sure he met Dr. Beth Browning. He thought he was at the hospital to meet a very sick young boy who wanted to meet Mack but it turns out that Mack is the one who really received a gift. Great little book to read.
