Seventeen-near-old, Laila Patterson, never would describe her heart as fickle. She understands the difference between reality and fantasy, which is why Sam Woodson is not realistic boyfriend material. After all, he’s in college, and college boys simply do not date high school girls. Plus, he’s Laila’s brother’s best friend. According to the unspoken bro-code, messing around with your friend’s little sister is pretty high on the list of forbidden taboos.

What happens when Laila discovers that her secret crush on Sam isn’t quite so one-sided? What if the only way it will work is to keep their relationship hush-hush? Is Sam worth all the lying and sneaking around?

As if things weren’t confusing enough with Sam, an old family friend suddenly shows up after being gone for more than three years. Laila isn't expecting Trevor Maddox to move back to Brookville. She isn't expecting him to attend her high school, and she certainly isn't expecting him to be so damned gorgeous.

Laila doesn't want or need this unexpected distraction . . . or does she?

I'm a mom, who spends most of my free time reading or imagining the next story. I live with my husband, daughter, and son in St. Louis, MO, home of our beloved Cardinals. I'm also a shoe designer with a wandering imagination, and emotions that can only be tamed through writing.

At heart, I'm really just a seventeen-year-old girl, which is why I enjoy writing YA and NA fiction.
There is something magical about that age. It's the only time in your life when you're caught between childhood and adulthood. Nothing is set. You're still defining yourself, and since you have your whole life ahead of you, anything seems possible. You can be whatever or whomever you want.

When I graduated from high school, my parents wanted me to become a writer. So, I went to college and became an artist. Yes, I was that teenager. I showed them, but I guess the joke is on me because here I am, writing. If only I could tell my teenage self that I didn't have to choose.

*4.25 DISTRACTING STARS*

Received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I never expected to enjoy this book as much as I did, and I honestly liked this a lot! Laila's story really kept me hooked and once I started this, I couldn't stop reading.
The one thing I didn't like about this however, was the ending. I'e never read a book with an ending as abrupt as this one, ever. I was seriously ready to flip to the next page, but there wasn't one! It's a pretty good way to ensure that people will read the next book though, because I really need to know how things progress now!

Ahhh hell no u can't stop it there

Laila as fancied the ass of her brothers best friend Sam since she can remember but she is high school an he is in college but he is throwing her looks that he normally doesn't an he is giving her butterfly thinkin that he mite like her she isn't used to the attention her bff Avery is the 1 that normally gets al the looks from the boys Laila just doesn't know how beautiful an sexy she as grown up to be Sam is the only guy she as thought of she get on with him but just wishes for more it just not goin to happen when she as a party at her house an family friends turn up that have moved back to town she is shock to see her friend Trevor as grown a lot an his much more sexier then she remembered an he is thinkin the same there is a stage pull goin on between them an it does distract her from thinkin about Sam but as the nite goes on Sam is everywhere an as the party comes to a end she is left with Sam an they end up kissin this is al Laila as ever wanted it's excited an the things he is sayin to her she thinks she is dreaming but at the very back of her mind Trevor is still there they r both just so hot

This book was enjoyable I did think it dragged in parts but the last 25% was just great I m not a huge fan of love triangles an if I do read them I alway know who I want to get with the girl but I actually not sure about this one which I think is pretty exciting I m still sitting on the fence about Laila don't get me wrong I like her but I think she is a lil al over place at times but it must b hard havin the guy of your dreams finally seeing u an then a guy from yrs ago turn up al hot an sexy God life is hard haha I do think Sam seriously need to grow a pair of balls he's meant to b the older more mature guy but I don't want to punch him just yet until I know what was in that letter I m just dyin to what was in it

There is quite a few things happening through out the book an I m dyin to know where it's goin to go I luv Laila's friend Avery I just hope she doesn't get hurt they r both great friends an would anything for each other but I really hope Laila doesn't let Kyle away away with his shit I was dyin for her to give him a punch or even a ear dashing don't get me wrong I do understand but I would of got so mad at him

I m dyin to know how this book is goin to an can't wait to read Numb I hope it's just as good as this book xxx

Quite a quick, fun read!

I started this book knowing there would probably be a love triangle of some kind, but I never expected to fall for a particular character the way I did... It's actually the opposite of what I was expecting! No matter what this character could do or say, I loved him from the very beginning and I adored his chemistry with Laila.

However, I quickly got tired of the triangle aspect of this love story. I've never been a huge fan of those anyways, so that was a given, but I guess I hopef it would change my mind. I wanted to shout at Laila every time she was with the character I didn't want her to be with, because it was very clear in my mind who should be her boyfriend. I understood her being jealous of Avery to some extent, because I know what it's like to be best friends with a gorgeous girl, but I disliked how she acted because she simply couldn't make up her mind. I'm guessing that it's all because I would have stopped all relationships, if I had been in her place, instead of being confused and having misplaced thoughts all the time. I know it can't be everyone's reaction, but there were times when I simply couldn't stand it.

I do think this is a lovely story, even though there were parts that felt out of place. There are sentences, and even chapters, that feel a bit like they're out of a textbook, because it's like they want us to think about them, but in an obvious way. Their message is good, but they're just not subtle enough, I guess. I think the entire world, like the characters and the places, created by the author is brilliant, though.

Thank you Laura Clark for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first in a three book story so actually reading this only takes you a third of the way to resolution. . . . High School student, Laila (aka Lil Sis, Lal and Lis) is sixteen years and eleven months old, she’s full of hormonal teenage turmoil. She’s starting to feel emotional attraction to boys for the first time and this story is chiefly about how she copes with these new feelings, especially when they’re to more than one of the males in her life! She’s confused, disorientated, intrigued and bamboozled by the whole experience!

Journey with her from her first “good” kiss to her secret crush to her first break up and everything else that happens in between. That zingy immediate attraction she’s expecting to experience just adds more to the angst as with the two potential loves in her life, Sam and Trevor, she really can't decide which of them she wants to give the chance to develop romance further. With an interfering, protective brother, changing relationships and indecisiveness it certainly isn’t going to be a smooth ride for her!

There are a plethora of characters seamlessly introduced through the story, all contributing in their inimitable way to Laila’s life. I was impressed how the author introduced them so slickly it felt like you should already know them and how to react to them. The emotive writing portrays empathically the development of young love, sharing the positive and negative experiences and emotions, helping the reader feel the character’s emotional roller coaster ride as the story progresses.

This is a well written, entertaining and very different love triangle young adult romance and the start to an intriguing series!

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book. The book was fun and the characters were great. I am not a huge fan of love triangles, but it worked! I hate how I was left at the end though...I need the next one. I will definitely be reading the other books in this series.

I loved it!! This is the kind of book I was waiting to read.
4 stars
because I love the plot

because Laila even do she was so in love with Sam didn't stop her for checking other guys out. I hate that in other books, where the female lead doesn't even turn to see other guys the minute she falls for the main guy. (A saying I love goes like this Not because your in a diet means you cant look at the menu LOL)
I become #TeamTrevor right away, He just so dreamy but has a bad side to him that I love.
Laila even do she got on my nerves, I loved that she didn't shy back from liking other boys. I know Laila is young and Sam was her first love but I hated her constant change of emotions because of him.
I hate to say but I didn't like Sam at all, maybe he was writing to be this perfect older guy but he got on my nerves. Usually he would be the type I would love as a book boyfriend. The older college guy for the High school girl but this wasn't the situation I didn't like him at all.
I read the second book already but I wont be living no spoilers here.

It's so hard for me to rate this book because I liked the love story - it made me feel the feels - however I have problems with other things. When the author approached me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, I immediately said yes despite having a pile of other review books since I thought that this book was my type. Then I started reading this and I was just annoyed at first because of the excessive use of italics and the main liking three different boys at the beginning of the book. I couldn't help but roll my eyes because I felt like it was so juvenile.

However, after pushing through, the love story of Sam and Laila won me over. Sam is a very sweet guy and I really enjoyed their relationship. Not only did it make me feel all the feels, it also made me wish that all guys were like Sam Woodson. Despite their relationship blossoming into love within just a short span of time, I couldn't complain because it felt so natural to me. Despite being quick, it felt like it was slow-burn to me.

I also liked the main character's best friend, Avery. I liked her attitude and personality, and I think that she added a distinct voice to the book. I also liked the family element in this story, and how Laila's family treated Sam like one of their own. Her indecisiveness really annoyed me and I would just like to strangle her.

Another thing that I didn't like about this book is the abrupt ending towards the end. It felt like this book is only the first part of the story instead of the first book because of how things ended. It didn't wrap things up and it ended with a weird sentence that didn't feel like a conclusion to me, which is why I was so surprised to see the word "acknowledgements" at the next page.

I don't know if I want to read the next book or not, but I sure do want to find out what is in Sam's letter!

**DEBBIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW**

HOLY COW!!!!! I want to beat this author with her own book!!!!!

I am a huge fan of YA and an even bigger fan of love triangles. So I got to tell you I was extremely excited to get to read this book, I would have to say that this book is a love triangle on crack!!!!! There are more than just three people involved in this so-called love triangle. I had a feeling this story was going to keep me on the edge of my seating waiting for the shit to hit the fan and the author did not disappoint. The only complaint I have and it is not a big one by any means is that some parts felt a little drawn out.

I am not going to tell you what the plot is about in this review. I feel like this is a story you have to experience to truly understand exactly what it is about. There are so many layers to this story my review would be 10 pages long if I got into the plot. I will tell you that this book will have you feeling all the emotions a good book has you feeling. I also will tell you that the author wrote all the characters so well and in depth that I felt like I knew each and every one of them personally. As I sit her now writing this review I am still shocked at how things went down and how the author had me loving and hating so many of these characters at the same time.

“Seriously, this guy is really confusing. He acts all weirdly protective and tries to keep me away from the other guys. At the same time, he ignores me half the night, and spends all of his time flirting with my best friend. I can’t tell if he likes me or hates me.”

I wanted to seriously beat the author when I got to the end of this book. I need to know what happens next and can not wait to get my hands on the next book to find out.

The first thing that grabbed my attention was the cover. It is both unique and gorgeous. Next was the blurb. While normally this isn't my kind of book, the blurb drew me in. I'm so glad I decided to go outside my norm.

Distraction is written exceptionally well. Laila is a sixteen (almost seventeen year) old girl. She spends her time drooling over boys, talking fashion, partying, and living a carefree life. She is relatable, realistic, and exactly who I was at that age.

Distraction introduces a huge amount of characters. It is done so smoothly and subtly that they just slide into the story. Adding to it without distracting from Laila or the main storyline. I really enjoy how once they're introduced they don't just disappear. They keep popping back up through out the book.

The love triangle storyline is not usually one I enjoy but I feel like it is more believable in a teenage world. Their likes and wants change constantly and the L word gets thrown around even when the feelings aren't really there. The storyline here was believable, enjoyable, and kept me turning pages to see what would happen next.

I really enjoyed reading Laila's story and am looking forward to more from her and her boys.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Unfortunately, I did not finish it.

• I don’t think it’s a bad book. Yes, I gave up reading it, the thing is… I don’t think I am the right person to read this book.
It’s too girly for me… I am not a fan of girly books. And truthfully you should’ve given it to a female reviewer. (I do appreciate that you trusted me with this book and I am grateful for that.) But you market is girls. I don’t see any male readers reading this.

• I really do want to know who she is going to end up with… Sam or Trevor. But it’s taking so much of my time. I think it was written beautifully. You feel lots of things. l Especially annoyance to the slut–sorry to say, but she is–named Laila. WHATS WRONG WITH HER!!! SHE MADE MY BLOODN BOIL! GRRR…

• I think girls would love this, and maybe will relate to the characters.

• What’s up with the cover? Is she going to find a magic dress or something that can split her into two? Cause I want one. HA!

• Maybe I should just look at the last chapter. *grin*

(Thanks for that by the way)

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD (I'm too lazy to hide them all)

What can I say, I really liked it. It wasn't hard for me to read this because I'm into this genre in the first place and need I mention that I'm a sucker for love triangles?
description
This is just perfect if you want some cute, mild reading. There's no really conflict here as much as I see aside from what I call "Laila's first world problems" XD Seriously it's just basically the heroine being so indecisive and inconsistent about her feelings for two guys. I can't blame her though, I was being indecisive which guy to root for myself XD Anyways, as for the characters, I actually like them all. I was so sure I'm going to hate Laila at first but she starts to grow on me and can't blame the girl to be distracted right? And the fact that even though she's attracted to both guys she never technically cheats and always thinking of her bestfriend whenever she's close to that thin line with Trevor. Though I must admit it kinda annoys me when she can't stop fantasizing about the other guy when she's with the other. Seriously girl! Get a grip!
description
And as for the guys omigosh, so freaking hawties...
description
If I'm being honest right now I still don't know who will she ends up with. At first I was really sure it was Trevor because she just can't get him out of her mind completely and I've read too many romance novels to know where this is going. And when Layla and Sam broke up I was like "I freaking knew it!" Then i was surprised by a cliffhanger. I thought it was a standalone!!! I've never been so wrong. And for Sam *sighs* I really like him! I'm may be rooting a little bit for him than Trevor... hehe busted. Can you blame me though? He's so sweet! Perfect nice guy with a little naughty side. I'm disappointed on what the author did to his character though (When I thought this was a standalone novel) It's like she made him a jerk just to make a conflict that would lead to their breakup and give way to Trevor. I never expected that freaking letter and that made me happy that there's still a chance after all! Now I have something to look forward on the 2nd book. I guess that's all I can say about the story, I'm pretty satisfied with it and the author really did a fantastic job. The book has this cute moments that tugs your heart and the jealousies! Gosh I freaking love those!
description
And for the authors writing style; I like it. Usually when I can't connect with the authors writing style I just put down the book and never set my eyes on those again but not in this one. She can be a little too detailed in my opinion but I guess that's not actually a bad thing. Maybe tone down the mention of branded things? It's little distracting (Oh the irony XD)>
Overall! I love this! Thank you so much Laura Clark for introducing me to this! Oh and this completed my book challenge this year! Yay!

Book given by the author for an honest review

Upon reading the blurb, I was intrigue with the characters. Girl crushes on her brother's best friend. I've read that on other stories but when another boy comes in and said girl sort of likes him. Let me grab a popcorn because that is interesting.

The first few pages was kind of dragging to me. I have a hard time time connecting with Laila. She is indecisve, a lot of inner musings that it takes all in me not to pull out my hair and reached between the pages to shake her. I mean, I get that she's been crushing on Sam for years now but when Trevor comes into the picture and she's caught in between them. All I keep thinking while I read was Damn, just choose one boy. One boy and be content with it. It's difficult. Just one guy and stick with him. I think I got confused by reading her thoughts too.

Spoiler alert! And a little bit of venting too

I admit I like Trevor. There's just something about his mysterious self that pulls you in. And his shy smiles or even cocky smiles. *sigh* So I was enraged when Laila picked Sam. It's kind of obvious though. He's her childhood crush and don't we all want to be with our crush? Sam all wanted was to kiss Laila which is okay, they are teens and hormones are high. But it seems like he didn't care for Laila at all. That all change though when he took her out on a date. A date on her house but with a service of a fancy restaurant. How romantic is that. And when he said how much he cared for Laila and liked her since then. I think I melt on that. Somehow in my book, it equals to the time Trevor and Laila went on a picnic at his secret spot. And I start to understand Laila because I was also caught between Sam and Trevor. Both are great guys but you have to choose one only. Although I was secretly cheering on Trevor when Laila is convincing herself that Sam is her boyfriend and she shouldn't feel anything towards Trevor.

And the end, I was crushed. I get what Sam is going through. Kyle is his best friend and like brother to him. Laila is the girl he is falling for and unfortunately the little sister of his best friend. Still, it feels like a jerk move for me to dump Laila. If you're only going to make Laila cry then why woo and kiss her. You know what you're getting into when you kissed Laila. You know what the consequences will be. I was hoping Trevor will be there to pick up the pieces. He sure was there but he is dating Avery, Laila's best friend and that kind of spell trouble if he makes a move on Laila. Honestly, I don't know what to think, who is the guy for Laila. Sam, her longtime crush or Trevor, the guy who makes her feel things and makes her smile a lot.

This might be a fantasy of mine but I think that it is Trevor that she really likes. Laila likes Sam because he is her childhood crush and her mind thinks that it should be Sam because of that. But her heart and body wants Trevor. And between the mind and the heart, I think you should follow your heart.

Oh well, I'm ranting and running all sort of theories right now. This book although slightly dragging is a fun read. I recommend to those readers who likes young adult and teenage love. I can't wait to read book 2.

Distraction was just that for me. A serious Distraction from my book blogging deadlines that I just couldn't quit reading because it was that dang good! Do you love a great love triangle? Do you love forbidden romances? Or how about falling for the best friend? Well, I do. So imagine how I must have felt when I discovered Distraction had all three! It was like Christmas came early! I was captivated, intrigued, and down right giddy reading this book.

Distraction is the story of Laila, 16 year old plain jane (in her mind) who is spending her summer chilling, relaxing, and hanging out with her friends hoping to be noticed by a boy. Little does she know, they are about to be upon her in swarms, even the ones who she never thought would notice.

Enter in Sam, Laila's brother Kyle's best friend. Sam has been around so long that he is almost like a brother, however Laila has always had a crush. It isn't until a summer wedding that Sam noticed Laila isn't the lil sis he's always called her.

Ever notice how when you are trying so hard to focus on one thing there always seems to be a distraction? Well, here comes Trevor. Trevor is Laila's annoying childhood friend who has recently moved back after his parent's decided to relocate. Trevor is no longer that annoying, teasing little boy Laila remembers. He has definitely grown up and Laila is beyond distracted by those vivid green eyes that's playing in circles in her head.

I loved the tension in this story. I never have yet figured out who I wanted Laila to fall for and be with. They are equally amazing guys and you can't help but root for them both. But of course Laila has to choose! I'd love to shed light on who she chooses, but Clark has left me slack jawed with an epic cliffhanger! That's right, just as you are about to figure it out Clark teases you a bit before releasing Numb the second book in the Westbrook series. I can't wait to read it.

With all that said, I wouldn't be doing my job as a blogger if I didn't tell you a few things that I wish were a little different. At times in this book it doesn't read like a YA. But, due to the ages of the people, it's most definitely a YA book. I would have liked to have seen Laila be just a little older, maybe even coming off her SR year and not just post Sophomore. I struggled a bit too with the amount of drinking for such a young kid. Sometimes she and the other characters seemed was wiser beyond their years, but then you'd be taken back to how old they really are. I think if they were slightly older it would have been a bit more cohesive and made an already great book exceptional.

In the end, all the elements are there for an amazing story definitely worth your one click purchase. The tension, the love triangles and forbidden romances make this book an amazing read. It's hard to believe this is a first book for this author. I am so excited and ready to find out more in Numb, Westbrook Series Book 2!

I received a copy of this book in an exchange for an honest review!

I love YA!!

I love the young love, the build up, the innocence, the newness of the experience, and the little giddy feeling i get while reading these books! Laura delivered on all these and so much more. I am so grateful that she reached out to me, and gave me the opportunity to experience her writing.

Distraction is the first book in the Westbrook Series.

I adored this book, its emotional and silly, its witty and romantic, the characters have an air of innocence and experience, and there is even a love triangle. Most of the time love triangles are easy to pick one guy you like best, but with this book i was stuck i loved them both. This book had a great story line, awesome characters, and I thought the story flowed wonderfully.

Laila Patterson almost 17 has had a crush on her brothers best friend Sam for years! Sam is in college at Northeastern with her brother Kyle, and Laila is a rising senior in high school. Until recently she was pretty sure Sam only saw her as Kyle's little sister, but he has recently been giving her some lingering looks, causing her questioning if he sees her as more. Laila dismisses the looks, believing its all in her imagination, questioning what would Sam see in her!

Out of school for the summer Laila has a party at her house, to get closer to a guy that she likes from school, Devon. At this party she finds that an old friend Trevor has moved back to town and he has grown up quiet a bit in the three years since she's seen him. They have an instant connection, and quickly develop a bond. As the night progresses and the party winds down Sam moves in for a kiss and fireworks happen!!

"I know in my heart, I am not falling for Sam. I have already tripped, crashed, and fallen. Right now, I am toppled over drunk in love with this boy."

But this is a YA novel and it happens in high school so of course there is drama, when Laila is with Trevor she kinda has feelings for Trevor and she doesn't thing about Sam. When she is with Sam and she sees her best friend Avery with Trevor she gets jealous. She shouldn't be jealous she has Sam right?!?!

But Sam is in college, Laila's in high school, their relationship or whatever is happening must remain a secret from not only her parents but her brother and Sams best friend.

So what happens when you get careless . . .
What happens when you get caught . . .

An overprotective brother could ruin everything her and Sam have created in their short time together.

I really loved this book, but it wasn't completely amazing. I liked the idea of this love triangle. It's a new idea, with the distraction thing. The book was really funny, I love sarcastic comments you can never have enough. the writing wasn't a new technique and it wasn't completely relate-able. However. There was a certain charm to it, that I would say reflects Laura Clark's personality. A lot of writers can put their charm in a book, but this was different. It made me want to continue reading because, I knew there was something waiting for me that was going to surprise me, or piss me off, or make smile. And I like that sense of appeal.

I didn't mind the main character, Laila, at the start but then she did some things that pissed me off. Like why on earth would you like Trevor when you have Sam, you can't have both you know. You have to pick one. Sam was just completely adorable throughout the whole book. When he does something shitty he would apologize, and admit that what he did was wrong, and he would still feel bad about it. I hate Trevor. He shamelessly flirts with Laila while dating Avery, excuse me, again you can only pick one. I hate how completely nosy and possessive and annoying he is. Laila knows all that but still, her "stomach flutters every-time she's around him" even when Sam is there. (Unless they're making out then she forgets about him.) She also forgets about Sam whenever she's around Trevor. Again people, You. Can. Only. Pick. One. Kyle is an asshole. Need I say more. And even when Laila's angry with him she doesn't say anything, instead she does him favors. If you read the book and know what I'm talking about, can I get an amen for "Laila stand up for yourself and state a freaking opinion". Laura Clark honestly seems like a great person. I've talked to her and she seems really cool. How she managed to write a book where a few times I literally hated everyone in it, astonishes me.

Overall as a book it was really good, but I would never want to read/write a character analysis essay on any of these characters, even Sam. It will just make me angry. I hated/loved the ending. It was okay, but the book stopped in a terrible moment. I don't want to finish this really good book with Trevor, Uuugghh. I need to know what happens. Can't wait for "Numb". Support Laura Clark and read this book, and write a review about it.

I was offered this novel in exchange for a free review. And I must admit that I'm torn, because I really enjoyed this book and wanted to give it a 5-star. But the writing style was frustrating and distracted me from the characters and their development. So, the end result is a 4-star, but just.

As I read the opening lines, I was hooked and wanted to get to know the characters better. Avery is so much fun, and Trevor seems like a genuinely interesting guy. I'm not sure about Sam, as his character was the least developed in the book. His back story is usually linked with Kyle's and it tended to paint a better picture of Kyle. Until, of course, Sam planned out that date for Lis that was over the top but romantic too. Team Sam or Team Trevor? I'm on Team Trevor. Just a little bit more bad boy in him and that hooks me every time. Team Laila or Team Avery? Team Avery! I am hoping that in the next books she gets a lot more page time because she seems like a hoot.

Okay, so why was the writing hard for me? As a stickler for good grammar, I know that English teachers and English lit profs drill into you that contractions are a "no no" in writing, and that you need to be very descriptive to pull the story together. But in romance, you don't always need to plug those holes. In fiction writing, in general, you can leave some gaps and the reader will fill those in. And you definitely don't need to respect the formal grammar rules. That's where I found this book more of a challenge. Having read so many first person romances, I am used to contractions and the characters speaking like most of us talk; in Distraction, they tended to speak the way English teachers tell us to write which had me editing as I read (in my head).

I do think that a good editor would be able to take this book and turn it into what it should be, making it a 5 star for sure. It would probably end up 100 pages less, but I don't think that would take away any because the book has a great plot, fun characters, and a love "square" that works to suck you in.

Using the letter as the transition to book 2 is genius, because it totally makes any reader, even those who aren't team Sam, want to know what he says and see how this could possibly make up for him essentially dumping Lis.

This was a really great book and wonderful start of a series. Laila Patterson is 16 years old and she has been in love with her older brother's best friend, Sam, for years. He finally starts looking at her differently and acting interested. He's in college and since his parent's moved out of town, he stays at the Patterson house when he's home from college. Also, Trever Maddox and his family move back to town and she has these feelings for him that make things very confusing. He's gorgeous and doesn't act like he's in high school.

Laila is a great girl who has many self esteem issues that plague a lot of 16 year olds. She has a gorgeous best friend that most guys fall all over themselves to get her attention. Laila doesn't see herself the way other people see her, she doesn't realize how beautiful she is. She finally gets Sam's attention and she is very excited about it. But then their relationship has to be kept a secret and it makes things harder and confusing. Also, Trevor makes her feel things too and she's comfortable around him and can talk to him.

Sam is a great guy but he's known as a player who hooks up with girls and doesn't call them again. He's finally seeing Laila in a different light and he can't stop his feelings. She makes him feel like she is the only woman in the world. He's been best friends with Kyle for a long time and he's practically part of the Patterson family. He wants to be with Laila but she's in high school and 16 years old, so they decide to have a secret relationship. When Kyle finds out about them, he threatens Sam and he's not strong enough to fight for them. He chooses his friendship over his feelings.

Trevor is a wonderful guy. He used to live in town and his parents and Laila's parents were close. Now their back and it's the summer before Trevor and Laila's senior year. He's very interested in Laila. He does end up going on some dates with her best friend Avery since she seems to be in a relationship with Sam. Trevor and Laila are comfortable with one another and they can talk and hang out without things being confusing. Problem with Trevor is even when he's dating Avery, he can't stop his feelings and attention on Laila.

Definitely worth reading and reading the rest of this series.

I'll admit I was a little hesitant to read this book because I'm not a fan of love triangles, they're way to angsty for me, however I was so glad that this book really didn't feel like a love triangle at all and there was hardly any angst and I ended up LOVING it.

After I got passed the first 20% I LOVED it and could not put it down! Laila is a very realistic and relatable character. Like many high school girls typically are, she's insecure with her looks and doesn't have a lot of self confidence. Her inexperience with boys and her inner dialogue of constantly second guessing situations and reading too much into conversations was funny and very relatable. I also enjoyed her best friend Avery who was the perfect best friend adding humor and honesty when Laila needed it. As for the boys, Laila has a tough decision on her hands! Both Sam and Trevor were great book boyfriends and I totally admire Laila for not being "that girl" and respecting that Avery also likes Trevor. Kyle, Laila'a brother, was also a fairly major character and I loved every time he'd act like a big brother and they'd argue like siblings do.

I was first drawn into the book with prologue because the writing was so strong and vivid, however the next 20% was kind of tough to get through. For one, in the prologue the main character, Laila, is described as being incredibly shy and uncomfortable in social situations, however she didn't act like that the rest of the book. She actually went to parties, hosted parties and would even invite friends over. Secondly I was really confused by Devon. It's obvious early on (and from the description) that Sam and Trevor are the two main love interests so when Devon was first mentioned I was super lost. The final thing that got me in the beginning of the book was all the italics! They were so distracting at times it was hard to concentrate on the story.

As this is part of a series there is a cliffhanger ending and of course I can't wait for the second book to see what's in the dang letter!

I received this book in an exchange for a honest review

DANG! THE BOOKS IS SO HOT! NO NOT LIKE THAT, I MEANT THE SCENES AND PEOPLE ARE HOT COS THEY WERE....NEVERMIND!

description
OHMYGOSH!!!! What have you done to me Laura? This series is all I can think about when I am not meeting my deadlineS or revising my ass of for a test! I JUST CANNOT GET HOW HOT SAM AND TREVOR ARE!!!

There is truly no way to describe this book, anyway I do will not do the book any justice. I cannot believe this is your first series, the way you have eloquently written this book proves something else. Honestly this is one of the best books I have ever read and it seemed to get me out of the reading slump so thank you for that! Hooray!

Laila is pure innocence in this book, there is no way to describe her anyway else. Avery? Truly a best friend with a heart of gold, getting to know her throught out the whole book makes me want to make her my best friend. I hope I meet a Avery one day! :)

Kyle is shown to be very annoying in this book or atleast from Laila's perspective, they are not really close even though the age difference is not very big at all but Kyle acts like it is which is why he broke Sam and Laila up. I can't decide if I hate or love Kyle, I guess it is one of those things that you hope will knock some sense in to him.

As much as I want to favour Trevor and how much it is emphasised how hot it is, I can't help but favour Sam. He is like my Sammy boy (lovestruck). I have to admit what he did to Laila was him being a BIG FAT JERK!!! It doesn't make it right even if he did think he was doing the right thing, it seemed like he was choosing Kyle over Laila which I get it I do but seriously?

If you want a book full of romance, laughs, action, drama then this book is for you!

You know, I really liked this book. I give it 5 stars because I went in knowing exactly what I was reading. A teen book with teen drama that was really good! I absolutely loved the love triangle.

Laila Patterson is a sixteen year old girl who is blossoming into a beautiful young lady. She has so much self-doubt about her looks. Forever thinking she’s in the shadow of her best-friend Avery. Avery tells it like it is. Her mouth has no filter and that’s good :)
Laila doesn’t realize how beautiful she actually is. Laila has always had a crush on brother’s best-friend Sam.
Sam is like family. He stays at her house when he is out on summer from college and is totally off limits not to mention he doesn’t even see Laila as anything other than a little sister or so she thinks.

One summer night everything just happens. Laila’s parents are having a party, Laila invites her friends over as well.
Sam is back from college and Laila might hookup with a guy from school. Well Trevor, an old friend who moved away just pops back into Laila’s life. His family is moving back in town. And Trevor has changed A LOT. He is gorgeous and so very annoying. It’s like he knows exactly what to do or say to annoy Avery. But something about Trevor makes her heart skip a beat. Problem is, BFF Avery has staked a claim. So Trevor is now off limits. But that doesn’t stop Laila from flirting with Trevor or fantasizing about him.

Sam has decided he’s waited long enough to make his move and quickly claims Laila before someone else does. Here starts their secret romance and a lot of problems.

If you are a fan of YA, then you will love, love, love this book. I honestly can’t wait to read the next part of this series. I have to know what becomes of the broken hearted.

Being in love with your brothers' best friend is not an easy thing, it never has been, and it'll never be. I think one of my brothers still don't know what to think about his best friend being in love with me all through elementary and junior high "hahaha".
And there is my other brother, and one if his best friends, which I'm currently dying to get his attention, but can't make him see me as more than his BFFs little sister. But after all, I think love is unexpected, and you never know when you're going to find it, or where, it just simply happens.

As for the book, I think Laila play it cool checking other guys out, a crush big or no on your sibling BFFs is not the end of the world, and she knows it. I don't know what to feel about Kyle he may be an ass, and also what's with the brother calling the best friend and telling her about the breakup?!!! I like Trevor; he is the kind of guy I'll date, but what I don't like is that he is playing with Avery.
Sam, it's complicated how I feel about him. I think my brothers will get mad at first, but they would totally kick his ass for breaking my heart, they`re not that heartless. He acted like a coward, and in my book that doesn't sit well and he's out the picture for not staying and fight for what he wants (if it's really what he wants)

But as for right now, I´ll seriously like the second book so I can finally know WHAT THE HELL IS IN THAT LETTER, made up my mind and be able to give a full blow your mind review in this interesting and discovering story.

I was delighted to receive a copy of Distraction for my honest review. I really enjoyed this novel written by the talented Laura Clark. I breezed though it finishing it in a day. Clark’s writing is light, and funny, you can’t help falling in love with the characters. This is a coming of age story that appeals to readers of all ages. There is a love triangle, but not a typical one, it is not in your face all the time. Meaning the main character, Laila, deals with each love interest separately throughout most of the book. I appreciate that because you can clearly define what type of connection Laila has with each guy, I’m TTT by the way (Totally Team Trevor). I like the way the characters were developed and they are set up nicely leading into the next book, plenty of room to grow. The storyline has a strong emphasis on family shown in a positive light, too often YA books involves broken relationships with their loved ones. I loved the teaser for Numb at the end of this first installment, gave me something to look forward too. I would def take the time out to check out DISTRACTION it is definitely worth it. ( you will only need a day !!! lol !) Laura thank you for this opportunity, you are a talented young writer with so much potential, I excitedly look forward to reading the rest of this series as well as any new projects your release. Happy Reading !

Distraction. I was given the chance by this lovely author to read Distraction in exchange for an honest review. So here goes nothing.

Distraction is a YA book based on the pits and peaks of high school crushes and getting caught up in a whirlwind of drama. It is based on a rather unexpected love triangle formed from jealousy, forgotten feelings and new experiences. Laila, Sam and Trevor. I mean, it must be a hardship having the guy you've always crushed on have feelings for you too, and then coming across another who awakens emotions you thought you wouldn't feel.

This book is about finding where your heart truly lies. Of course there will be traces of confusion and just needing to know who your soul is linked to. But Distraction has taught me that feelings can get mixed up, but only you can come to terms with who you really want to be with without any type of interference. And how you need to fully think about what you're willing to risk in order to have what you've always hoped for.

I love the emotions felt, friendships being tested and just needing to be with the one you need the most. And yes, Laura, I forgive you for the cliffhanger. I was ready to throw my device away and scream. I'm excited to see where their journey ends. It gives me something to look forward to. Great job, Laura. Can't wait to read more.

I could NOT put this book down (and I'm cooking for a family Thanksgiving dinner)!

This book has it all for YA romance. Laila is an almost 17 year old who is falling in love with two boys...one is her older brother's gorgeous best friend (Sam) & the other is a childhood family friend, whom has grown up to be just as amazing (Trevor). The dilemma is that Laila's brother is too overprotective for her to ever start a real relationship with Sam & Laila's best friend has already staked her claim on Trevor. Yet, both boys have fallen for Laila. What's a girl to do?!

All the characters are interwoven so well, and it took me back to the days of friendship & falling in love. These teens are navigating the ups & downs of love, friendship, school, and staying true to yourself. This book has well described scenes of teens and their many new feelings and daily struggles, as they mature into adulthood. I just wanted to jump into the book, and hug Laila and tell her, "It's all going to work out for you!". I also wanted to jump into the book to meet Sam! :)

I absolutely cannot wait to delve into the next book in this series. Thank goodness the second book is available, as I'm currently dangling from the cliff...

I've found a fabulous new author and look forward to reading more of her books!

This book is about first loves, a break-up and everything in between.

Laila is a seventeen year old who tries to figure her heart out. From harboring a secret crush on her brother's best friend Sam to the confusing feelings Trevor awakens as he returns to town, Laila has to explore the ups and downs of falling in love.

And who says love is easy? You step into an unfamiliar territory and you have to deal with the excitement, the rush, the novelty of entertaining a relationship. Laila is torn between the blue-eyed forbidden love and her attraction to the new boy's deep green eyes.

To be honest, characters like Laila leave me slightly restless and unsettled when there's a love triangle involved and doubt lurking around. I found myself rooting for Sam more than for Trevor which sometimes made me mad at Laila. Love triangles aren't my cup of tea, however, in this book you come to accept Laila's flaws and you end up cheering on her... I'm still curious about Sam's letter and what he wrote. I hope it's what I'm thinking it is.

I believe that readers who enjoyed Jenny Han's works should definitely read this noting that this book may be a real quick fun summer read and that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

**** beautiful cover by the way!****

OK so I got this book for in return for an honest review...
Well here is it... first of all this book is just awesome read!!!
So the book has sort of have this love triangle between Leila, Sam ( her brother Kyle's best friend) and Trevor ( her old friend friend from middle school). Well is mostly Leila being all confuse about how she feels about Sam and Trevor. She thinks she is in love with Sam. But there's also Trevor. That when ever his around she forgets all about Sam, and that she has all this feelings she shouldn't be having about him. and it doesn't help much when Trevor tells her that he likes her since they were little, and still have feelings for her after being out touch from each other for three years. and the fact that Sam breaks up with her, when Kyle found out about them. now Trevor think he has some chance with her but at the same time his date Leila's best friend Avery.
well that's my review of the book and I hope you guys enjoy the book like I did because to honest to you guys I could so totally relate to this book... thank Laura Clark for sharing your awesome story with me!!! I enjoyed read it.. now I'm gonna go but the rest of the series and find out more because I am dying to find out what Sam wrote in that letter he left for Leila before leaving...

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I am not usually to big on love triangles but I really enjoyed this one.

Laila has been in love with Sam forever but then out of no where Trevor walks back into her life. Sam finally has eyes for her to, but so does Trevor. She finally gets Sam but Trevor is there on the outside.

When Laila and Trevor meet again for the first time you can really feel the connection between them. The bantering between them really brings them together. When they hang out you can see the connection grow between them and can tell why she also falls for him too.

Sam is the one she always wanted and she finally gets him, even though it is in secret. The connection between them is strong as well. They have a lifetime together that you can't forget. Sam is so sweet and romantic, you can tell right from the start how much he cares from Laila. I wish he would have dealt with things differently in the end. He gave up to easily.

The book has a cliffhanger ending that make you need to read more. I can't wait to read more, I am really rooting for Sam and Laila, first loves for forever.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review

This wonderful story of first love and lost was a fantastic read.

Our main character Laila has had a crush on her brother's best friend Sam since forever. Its not until she wears her magical dress (that hot number you know makes you look great), that she notices Sam paying a lot of attention.

Jump forward to the beginning of summer at her first high school party where she is setting up with her best friend Avery. Its here we met Trevor who has a wonderful and flirtaious banter with her and instant connection. Yet Laila is set on hooking up a guy she likes from High School, at one point our girl has the attention of all three males.

What develops is a wonderful story of first kisses, young love and heartbreak. Who will Laila find her happily ever after with Sam or the sexy green eyed Trevor?

Wonderful story that has a cliffhanger of an ending make sure you have the second book ready because you know your going to want to read it straight away.

Beautiful romance!

Wow this story just gripped me. The angst, romance, forbidden, young love between Sam and Laila just grabs your heart! Sam, the best friend of Laila's brother, is in college, she's in high school. Her crush for years he finally notices her, but they have to keep it secret. Enter Trevor, an old friend who moves back, and she is in a constant state of confusion. Everything feels so right with Sam, but yet when Trevor is around she feels an attraction she doesn't understand. As Sam and Laila start a relationship, will they be able to survive the secrecy? Friendships, love, heartbreak keeps the pages turning. Tears will be shed as Ms Clark pours all the emotions of Laila and Sam through her words. Great character development and great reading for all ages!

This is the story of 17 year old (almost) Laila. Liala has not had a lot of experience with guys. She has been crushing on her brother's best friend, Sam, for years. Finally, he notices her and things take off from there. A friend from her past, Trevor, also comes back into her life. All of sudden everything becomes complicated.

I really liked this book and couldn't wait to finish it. I kept going back and forth between Sam and Trevor. Right now, I think I'm Team Trevor.

Who is best for her? Who does she really want to be with? Will she end up hurting her best friend, Avery? What does the letter say? I can't wait to find out the answers in the next book.

I recommend giving this book a read...it does not disappoint!! :)
