Just Keep Rowing is a self-empowerment book written by Katie and co-author, Mark Bowles, with 70 life lessons that parallel the number of days Katie spent alone at sea rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. The book is a personal conversation between you and Katie. During her journey she learned many vital life lessons from the Atlantic. As she found out, an ocean is a great teacher of the meaning of life. Katie became its student, sometimes reluctantly but often enthusiastically, and she wants to communicate these lessons because she believes they can be valuable for everyone. From students to business executives, and to people just wanting to find new ways to live life to the fullest, these lessons from the Atlantic will help you see the world from a new perspective.
I finally finished the book. All I can say is " WOW"!
It really moved me , I was choking towards the end. And life's simple pleasures is wanting to eat watermelons after a grueling journey , right ? That's where the rubber meets the road.
The core message and purpose of the book is to need for clean water for over billions who dont have it. Katie does a splendid job of using each chapter to drive home deep philosophical and human truths that are uplifting , and moving.
A must read . And take your time finishing this book, take chapter like a day .
An excellent story by an impressive person I’m glad to call my friend - about her epic solo row across the Atlantic Ocean in 2010 to raise funds and awareness about the need for clean water; she shared a life lesson for every day she was at sea, and my favorite was that if you get displaced from what’s comfortable and routine, you will be able to look at the world with new eyes.
I couldn't put this book down. From the first day of Katie's trip, I kept yelling, "Turn back! Turn back!" It was scarier than anything I could ever imagine. Yet, she got through it and weathered so many obstacles and ups and downs for the next 70 days. Every day was an adventure, and she wove in a daily lesson she had learned on the ocean, which I loved. She shared her innermost thoughts along with all the answers to the questions you might be thinking, such as how does one go to the bathroom on a rowboat? I thought it was very well written, easy to read, and sprinkled with lots of pictures and quotes to engage the reader. As a mother, I can't imagine my child undertaking such an enormously dangerous trip, but as you read about Katie and her thoughts and dreams for our world, you can get a little better understanding as to why she must do these things. I keep thinking of all the people in the world she has helped obtain clean water and thank God for her. Truly an inspiration!
